thanks

Altough i voted,i highly doubt they'll ever listen............they just say that "The hardware isnt good enough to run Sense 4.0 and <add a diplomatic answer here>"..But if they do.....What's better than that
come on...ICS on Wildfire(as)S? Don't we have slow CPU and enough bugs already?
Signed, I really hope they listen.
Signed too, although I don't think they care.
Btw, it's "their", not "there".
i.e. Their handsets, not there handsets.
there not going to listen to a pertition becouse you can sign it more than once, rendering it useless..
aka, MW2 private server petition, and a number of other dev petitions, as well as all the privacy law petitions...
people just don't listen to them anymore, especially if they start on a software cracking site...

Well it worked for the adreno armv6 drivers for ics (which I signed) so worth a try whatever the outcome
voted
I've voted however I can't help but think that it would have more of an impact if it was written in a better way. No criticism but there's a lot to be said for proof reading and spell check.
worked with bootloaders, worked with drivers...who knows it might just work with this too. Its easy to sign....

Hey all!
- So.. we want sense 2.0 right?
- We want Gingerbread right?
- MS Exchange support in Mail client (add account fails..)?
- Maybe a fix for the SMS not sending the sms to the recipient (rare.. but known, see the thread for Desire's bugs)
... I propose we create a common message to HTC asking for updates.
My main reason for this is the same lame answer everyone gets after emailing them for a certain update/fix.
We always get the "we don't know when" or "HTC makes sure you have the latest blah blah blah.."
Let's make a stand and say to HTC we don't want them to be like other companies that don't update "older" models!
Desire's hardware can - surely - withstand Gingerbread + Sense, Sense 2.0 and more..
The specs aren't near old enough not to have the latests features Android has to offer!
So.. with that in mind maybe you could unite our efforts and take a common action..
I'm suggesting the ones in the poll.. have another idea?
Update:
!PANDA as suggested sending the link to this thread to HTC.. so plz leave a reply
Once loads of people have voted, we all e-mail htc with the link to this poll, so they'll actually see this as most of the time they just send us templates.
The same has been done with the 1.24.161.3 vodafone update (just update, no poll used)
That is all. Good Bye.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDApp. Pure Madness.
Of course it doesn't hurt to ask them for further support I think it is still to soon to say they won't support us. I think we will get an upgrade to gingerbread, maybe even with sense 2.0 (which I think is the biggest obstacle because the rom is so large otherwise it should run fine( and it does on my phone))
It took them 3 months to port froyo...

We already have the first 2 on your list - look through the first 2 pages of the 'Desire Android Development' thread....
My experience is that HTC do whatever HTC want to do. They would much rather have you spend some more $$ on a new device than pour effort into updating/supporting your old one. Now I'm not saying that's how it should be, just saying that's how it is.
That's why this place is so valuable - people spend the time and effort to provide stuff HTC (and others) never intended you to have.
Gotta love XDA Devs
Good luck with your idea tho.

Er..
It is too soon to have gingerbread.. of course it is!
But what about the messaging thing? Has it ever happened to you? It's kinda bothering to send something you wrote to your girlfriend and have it delivered to your boss.. Who knows he might like it or he might sue you for sexual harassment..
JK, but seriously, there's little things that should be fixed.
For example showing the sms you sent as a reply before the sms that originated the reply..
The ms exchange mail thing..
I believe they will take a while to give us 2.3 and we have to understand that Sense is a very good GUI (the best I've experienced so far..) because it is well programmed and tested. So HTC is just "protecting" their image by taking three months to port the new version of Android.
But look for example the case of Sony Ericson saying 2.1 is too good already and future updates shouldn't be expected.. Sure their costumers replied back.. and now they're getting 2.2 on some models.. (We'll see..)
My point here is that by requesting fixes and updates we are showing that we are satisfied costumers and want it to continue that way. So in a month or two, if there's no 2.3 for Desire maybe we can have this thread to show dis contempt..
(And by the way.. Sense 2.0 isn't that big of an obstacle.. it's already working entirely in Desire's NAND.. just have a look at some DHD ROMs ports to Desire in the Development section.. Saying that Sense 2.0 won't fit in Desire's NAND is saying that XDA has better chefs than HTC... lol )

This poll equates to the following:
"Hi BMW,
I bought a 3 series last year with a 2-litre engine and I now see you have a 2.5-litre engine. When can I book in my new engine?"
Bit extreme, I know, but HTC don't have to update the Desire to anything. They're a business and they release new phones with new software. We might get it, we might not
That can be true in car business. But smart phone making is different. And when you buy car you are not only buying finished product but in most cases also 1, 2, 3, 5 year guarantee that include replace car, tow service, help on road if yours car stops obedience. Bmw also has free maintenance for first 100.000km or 5 years. Every business has its rules. And we as buyers of smartphones we set them. So, i ll buy my next phone from company that will offer me at least 2 years of updates. Thats the reason i don’t buy samsung anymore. Hope i don’t need to search for new manufacture. I like htc. But updates are important to me.

Not just to you. HTC should provide the official updated, and although you can say that we already 'have' them, you shouldn't really have to root the phone to have them. A phone like our Desire ain't cheap, we should at least get HTC's service as well as the product. So far, we've had the product, and in most cases very good product, but the updates arn't here, which sometimes makes Nokia look better: me and other members sent them an e-mail regarding an update with kinetik scrolling etc, it happened withing a couple of weeks! Come on HTC, Nokia knows how to listen to its customers, so if you want us to stay loyal, you have to be loyal to us.
That is all. Good Bye.

I don't have one
I'm fine with buying a new phone when the updates will no longer go on them.
I flashed my HTC Touch HD with WinMo6.5.3 to make sure it was updated when I found HTC wouldn't push out anymore updates... I'm just waiting for that point when HTC won't push any updates out, or they won't fit on anymore then I'll probably be rooting and flashing...
I purchased my Desire in about July 2010 for around £390 - that's the most I've paid for a phone and I don't intend giving it up just yet...

However, some people can not afford to buy new phones, just make the most if what they've got, but HTC will not even do that! Okay, Froyo wasn't that bad for the unbranded devices, but why shoul our providers get the updates to brand them?! People who don;t know what branding is etc, will think that HTC is just not as good as other phones, Nokia for example- no barnding, and although there may be some on the case of the phone, no Software Branding. Therefore, updates are pushed a lot quicker!
Back to the point, people like me want to make sure that they get as much as they can for what we pay, and for that reason, I don't think that HTC is as helpful as they can be.
That is al. Good Bye.
Desire / Nexus S
If HTC makes an update ill buy desire if not ill buy Nexus S, maybe........maybe not......ohh i LOVE the htc sense and i want a phone with the sense so i wont buy Nexus S.......Maybe desire z? but it has the keyboard problems and i dont need a keyboard.....ill buy desire (the normal one) and ill flash a cooked rom with 2.3 and the new sense, if possible...

Don't underestimate the power of the Dark side, Luke!
It's only a script.. if we lived in an utopia HTC would just release the next OTA with it..
data2sd, app2sd+ script can create the partition and even align it.. http://www.patriotmemory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3696
Maybe even with reiserFS partitions for faster access, but I think the dev's are getting to the conclusion that not all SDs work well with reiserFS.. so EXT3

We've been EOL for a few months but they did say the GB update would be coming... we saw that early build leak and then nothing.
Is the Droid Incredible the new Droid Eris?
I was hoping for some kind of update before they start releasing those fancy new Windows Phones and I bid adieu to Android. I'm thinking of just finally breaking down and rooting.
Where is the easiest, most straight forward instructions on how to root this puppy. A few ROMS look nice... I figure I might as well try them out.
http://unrevoked.com/ unrevoked is a one click solution for root. Just root. Try out some roms, make a backup of your stock rom if you're unhappy.
Root is the best thing you can ever do to this phone.

It's Verizon people. If we ***** at HTC enough they'll cave but I can't write emails for everyone.
Dear XXXXXXXXX,
We are more than happy to be able to provide some clarity to the situation at hand.
Currently, our developers have to work with Verizon to determine when and if a ROM upgrade will be available. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time for availability of any ROM update. Please check the HTC America website for any software updates that may be released, http://www.htc.com/us. Just click on the support link then choose your device.
XXXXXXX, we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number.
Sincerely,
Samantha
I only care because of source code & this is Verizon telling HTC not to update. It's fairly obvious that HTC had intentions of continued support.

I know it can be hard for people to justify taking 5 minutes to write an email they think is pointless but I would like to encourage you all to. Verizon will not change their mind but maybe we can get HTC to continue support on their site. Gingerbread won't be a big deal I know but I'm worried about ice cream sandwich & compatibility with our current resources.

I dunno. I was polite but informed. I simply said that I knew they had plans for it & that older or similar hardware (desire, evo, etc) had received the update so I know it's not for a lack of compatibility or power. I also mentioned my displeasure at the fact that they would rather cater to Verizon than support current customers & they might want to take a page out of apples playbook in that regard.
Lastly I let them know that this would be remembered on my next purchase.
Above all be polite but informed.
Well I just finished my second reply. Basically restating previous points made in further detail but with an emphasis on the fact that apple can't sue them for emulating their politics free policy on supporting their current customers which is a major key to their success.
Once again I implore all of you to be the squeaky wheel. It worked for the desire community. So please people, lets demand some grease.

We're not even talking about being rooted or not. We're talking about an update that should have been released already that will bring with it more fixes and other Rom components we need to keep development alive for our phone. I used to love CM but it definitely did not blow my mind, lol. Its just Android with another overlay.
Tv out and 720p camera don't exist in all the GB releases (customs or leak). It won't till the GB OTA or RUU is released, if ever.
I'll see if I can shoot em an email in the a.m. Wifi is spotty where I'm at currently.

Visually, there's no difference between 2.2 and the leaked 2.3. If it's that big of a deal to you, root your **** and install the leaked 2.3. It runs fine.
If you want to get more out of your phone, go with CM7.
Everyone that is still s-on goto this page http://htcdev.com/contact and write "Unlock my WFS bootloader" click send and repeat as many times as you can. Cant hurt to try seeing how they are taking their sweet time with the upgrade.
Done.
Now up to others. This is the only way.

If there is enough driving force then maybe we have a chance. A handful of users will not be sufficient, we need enough people for HTCDEV to notice that there is a large enough userbase to warrant them developing the unlock for the phone.
At the moment there simply isn't enough people.

Huge number of people had already signed a petition on rmd-team.ru, and the petition had been sent.
However, I don't see any point in this - HTC WON'T upgrade Desire anymore. All our hopes to ICS (which are being fulfilled more and more) lie with fellow devs.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
HTC can't release ICS for the Desire because Sense won't fit on the /system partition(they can't go hacking about like our devs can). Google wouldn't even release AOSP ICS for the Nexus One because it lacked space.

Exactly. HTC can't update the desire with ics, because all factory roms have to fit a devices internal partitions, which sense ics will never do (hell, they couldn't even do a proper gb release)
Instead of pointlessly hoping for an official release, help and support the devs that are already getting it working. Its the only way ics is ever being developed for the desire.

Instead of pointlessly hoping for an official release, help and support the devs that are already getting it working. Its the only way ics is ever being developed for the desire.

I trust shaky with the task.....he has probably already done more then anyone could have hoped when sense 4 was released.... Big thumbs up for him...... He's doing more then HTC....

This is why devs rule over manufacturers. They can get the job done.

I don't think a company like HTC is incapable of making an update that could change the hboot and create a ext3/ext4 partition on an sd card and make it posibile to install ics with sense4 on the Desire. The thing is that it wouldn't be beneficial for them concidering that they are after all a company that "makes" devices. If they did that then neighter of us would even concider buying a new device than that would mean bancrupcy for them. The main purpose for any company is selling, wheater it's a real or virtual product and HTC produces phisical products not just the software that completes them.
They said initialy that the Desire isn't capable of running GB never the less a version with Sense on it... after that they said that no mater what it can't run ICS... and in that light how many of us can tell them wrong.
In a final saying, it's just down to the devs like Sandvold or Shaky or any of them on XDA and not to create a rom that shows them that there are other people that have a reputation that is earned through hard work and our endless apreciation and deepest respect.
Sorry for my english as it isn't my main language.
Kind regards.

Why are you taking side of manufacturer ?
We are customers, we paid good money to buy a device which should get updated for a couple of years.........specially Android as it is open source.....
See Linux, Ubuntu, Firefox do they charge for updates......
Heck, take APPLE for example, i heard they still give updates for 3g which was released quite a while ago......
I'm not saying your wrong, but why are you thinking from HTC standpoint? They already have too much profit margins......people will still buy new phones even if old ones get updated.........
For example, you can still run the latest windows and apps on a Pentium4 HT even though ITS STONE AGED......see my point? People haven't stopped buying core i7 due to it.......

Guys you're forgetting the obvious here. HTC does not have to release ICS on the Desire because it is now older than 2 years from initial shipping. Also there's limitations on hardware such as low internal memory. Do not say SD ext as not everybody will understand the point of sd ext. With froyo the last proper ota ROM do not expect any proper updates in the future. Shaky is working on a 3.0 kernel so expect some major improvements when that is released.
If you really want ICS sell your desire and buy a 2nd hand nexus s.

Another point is: The least of users would even want to install an official update, because of hardware limitations (too few memory) it could never be an OTA. You all know that, without sd-ext our Desires are nearly unusable. And because of that it would be a download-and-use-at-your-own-risk-thing, as 2.3.3 was. I'd say that the 2.3.3 update was also installed mostly by experienced users, who'd also install a custom rom. So why even release one, if there's plenty of custom roms availible? HTC can use their manpower better. So stop complaining, buy a new phone or use any ICS rom.
BTW, we can call ourselves lucky that the desire even got so many updates. See for example some Motorola phones which are still stuck on 2.1. And that's not because of hardware, but the companies not willing to update. HTC is one of the better, as they still plan to upgrade some of the older devices.

Never took sides with anyone... because I am in comerce and trade I was just stating a personal opinion on a marketing policy. Besides the fact that I own a HTC product I have no other connection to them... so no need for me to take sides.
And as for linux, firefox, opera and all other "software" developers it makes sense to keep updating because their products only live on others hardware.
Never meant to offend anyone, sorry if I've left that impression.
As for an ICS OTA, even if it were to be released, after using custom ROMs for more than a year now and such a great experience I, personaly, wouldn't go back to stock.
Kind regards.

Read what happen and think about it. The rom maker took other Dev works, didn't gave them credits, even argue about not giving a thing about the credits cause it's a community made for sharing. But by the rules of xda (and by the rule he said himself, open source community, which exist by a name I forgot and I don't feel like searching, google it), when you take others work, you have to ask permission of nowhere it is said that you can use it/ modify it and you have, unless said otherwise by the Dev, to give credit for the work. It is simple respect among fellow Dev and is a normal thing in the world. Do you say thanks when someone hand you something you asked or needed? Same thing here.

ur right, rules are rules, and its legit he got his thread closed. STILL, why ppl cant talk about this, and he can add credits in his thread to the right devs doin good work... its late, but still, his rom obviously is way better than nik... dont know why two devs never could work together and stop being selfish. both dev's did great work, but it really isnt necessary to drive crazy cause of wrong credits. just fix this, apologize and work together... grow up guys
my english is rly bad tbh while im raging like hell

Alirez come back whit XxXPachaXxX NERO 2.0 rom =) (by alirez_sos and XxXPachaXxX)
Rule 12
Yes, u r right. But based on rule 12: ( Using the work of others. If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you. Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums. As an addition, developers have the right to hold exclusivity over their work for as long as it is deemed necessary by the dev or freely share it. However, if the work is claimed as exclusive, it must remain as such. No selective sharing will be allowed (ie allowing certain people to use it and not others). Should the dev decide to start sharing the work with others, the work automatically becomes fair game for all to use. In regards to permissions, same rules remain for this but if permission was already given, unless there is a very valid reason, it cannot be revoked (same applies to major updates on the work). Under that same premise, permissions cannot be denied unless the work is exclusive or under severe circumstances. In plain English: If you want to keep your work exclusive, go for it. However, if you are going to share your work, do it fairly. These rules apply to all software posted on XDA (including but not limited to ROMs, RUUs, apps, games, kernels, themes, icons, etc) unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules. )
Ad the nik work already share by other, then every dev. Can use it.
Also Alireza do something wrong to copy without credit and also same for Nik to complain it in open forum.
Anyway closing the topic seems very aggressive.
Anyway I used sabsa and actually it is the only Rom that I prefer to move from ARHD 6.3
Hope all devs solve their issues in private and joint together for Beter development.

Let us all be calm. The Moderator was quite clear: Thread close for the time being until all solved.
We're talking about MINOR issues. It might even be a mistake from Alirez, perhaps he was lied to (as in, Person X takes camera.apk from Dev Y and gives it to Alirez as if it was developed by him.)
I belive there's a good chance this will be solved, both of them seem reasonable, so let us wait
Damn that's just my luck. I just downloaded and flashed this ROM and really love it Everything working, IMHO so far the best ICS ROM... I hope this problem can be settled in peace so we all can benefit...
Sabsa Prime hands.down the best ics Rom

Had flashed V3.0 of Sabsa Prime, have to agree was probably slightly better than Nikhil007 rom, IMHO.
Either way it is a shame but lets hope it gets sorted.:fingers-crossed:
He copied his rom and just tweaked some of the rom. Yeah, it was better than Nikhil007. Even though they both lagged a little.
its not as good as they said...i have tried it and its not smooth at all !!!
currently am using xxxpachaxxx nero ROM...the best so far
