U can use ROMtoolbox->CPU control or can use SetCPU provided ur kernel is OC capable such as OC Cow kernel V2.
I would not recommend u for overclocking. It is not the matter of bricking ur phone. It could just burn/damage ur processor and mainboard which leads to GG.COM of ur phone. Do at ur own risk.

I think Im not only beginner here whit rooting, modding, overclocking and that kind of things. So is there some risk's that should know before start rooting. I'd like to root my defy and make it faster somehow coz' it's sometimes very laggy and slow. My defy is nordic version deblur whit android 2.2.2
So it is safe to root?
How I can make my defy faster and less laggy?
And is it safe to overclock?
Thanks in advance!
And sorry for my "not so good" english...
you can root your phone without a problem if you want that your phone became faster install a custom rom such as cm7 or miui or a leaked gb.you can unroot anythime by flashing full sfb again

It's all here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898036
and here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.SetVsel.Inteks.org
have fun!
Ty for that!
And one more question. Why my defy uses only something bit more than 200mb of RAM?
I think thats reason for laggy....
Send from my motodefy using XDA app
Use Set CPU from market an set clock between 600 and 800 mhz. This is IMHO the safest way to use the processor. Mine works great after that tweak.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
There is pretty much no risk on rooting.
You should read the Beginners guide in this forum section, very first post.
All you need to know is there, and there is info about rooting too .

I've used SuperOneClick2 to root multiple Defy's. setvsel (available in market) is good for overclocking/undervolting.
DEFY has a LOCKED bootloader. it means the chances to brick the phone are very very slight. so don't worry, watever happens, just go to stock recovery and everything returns to the first day
I may found my problem for laggy....
PLEASE read this ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247314 ) I really need help......

Hey, those actually work in my own CM9 build.
And with an ancient kernel, though it's spewing a lot of debug messages about wrong IOCTL_KGSL_TIMESTAMP_EVENT arguments.
this is gr8, it should be posted in the dev, section.
in ur signature ur freq is to 825 ? i thought the maximum is 806 can u explain what app u use to make it that high ?

You can actually go as high as 864MHz depends on the kernel.
Check out the latest cm7 by Alquez, it supports that frequency.

yes you can use japanese firmware, use v6 supercharger, and yes flash doomkernel and oc to 1.6 ghz coz battery drain might not be a issue for you.

thanks a lot bro ! Which settings should I apply in Supercharger ?
Hi all
I have recently rooted my phone and have installed advanced stock kernel. Now i was thinking of to overclock my device but after wandering over countless threads gave up. I want to overclock my phone to 1.7 ghz, have have tried KA Xperia SSpeed kernel v7 but after installing the 1.7ghz kernel my device went into a bootloop and would boot after approx 30 sec after the lockscreen appeared. Next i went over to Doom kernel but realized it was only for gingerbread (i am currently running ics .45 firmware) plus i could download the files anyway due to some network error. I could find anything else regarding overclocking, so here i humbly ask again, is there any way to overclock my device to 1.7 ghz stable? Plus there wouldn't be any risk of OC'ing to 1.7 ghz as xperia sl has the same hardware and is factory OC'ed, would there? Any Help?
Thanx in advance
anyone?
If overclocking causes bootloop then your phone can probably not take the higher frequency. Not all can.
Also get this flashed newest software - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34244504

how come? xperia sl has the same chip but it is stable while mine is not?
PS Jelly Bean!!!??? HOW?
Ur bootloader is unlocked?
And btw, every phone is different. Some take 2 ghz without a problem, others get bootloop at 1,6 ghz. Also, overclocking isnt that good. its better to use a fast gouvernor and sheduler.
U can get jelly bean with a custom rom.

Depends on ur rom, on ICS smartassv2 + noop is good, on Jelly Bean interactive(X) + sio.
Why do u want to overclock?

If you're unlocked then flash advanced stock kernel and then flash paranoid android 2.55, it's sooo fast!

Try using a cpu app like 'cpu master'. Use settings to find an overclock frequency that's stable. You don't have to use the full overclock frequency.

1.9-1.7 are the max frequencys, yes. But you use an app to lower the frequency until the phone is stable. My x10 had a 1228mhz max kernel, but my phone would only be stable at 1190mhz. Some x10 would only run at stock, no overclock.

You need a custom kernel that allows overclocking. You also need a unlock bootloader for that. Stock kernel the kernel your using doesn't allow overclocking otherwise there not much you can do.

You really need to read to op thread again. Doomlord already have recomedations on which app to use for overclocking on his kernel.
My advice for you: stay away of overclocking your CPU. There is many other ways to boost your phone. If you want coock your cpu then you can go for it.
sent from Xplay r800i [ROM] GB 2.3.7 max_power v1.0 by sechko, Doomlord kernel v10.
try using setcpu/nofrills to overclock, setcpu it has many profile option for you to choose from.
