Susceptibility of HOX White to Staining? - HTC One X

I've been highly anticipating this phone for a while, and was wondering if those with the white model have noticed any stains or scuffing on their phones. I keep my phone in my front right jeans pocket most of the time and I'm worried about the denim dye rubbing off. If it easily becomes grubby I might just get the gray model instead.

I've had mine for a week and I have seen a bit of denim staining on it, but only a few small patches and they easily wipe off.

Thanks!

Who is running nekkid???

I just pulled off my clearfreak cause I messed up the install and I have 2 more coming from the ebay sale, but I've noticed that even the clearfreak takes a bit away from the "nakedness" . I mean damn this screen is sexy and responsive.
Just wondering if anyone is using their phone on a daily basis without a screen protector, gel skin, or neither. How do you like it? How is it holding up?
**Might give away those two Clearfreak SP** haven't decided yet, but let me know.
I bought mine on release day when the store opened and mine is naked as a jay-bird. My concern is being stupid and throwing it in my pocket with keys or something like that so I ordered the RealClear (or something like that) screen protector. I also think its a little hard to one-hand-hold because its fairly slick so I am going to look for a gel/rubber case soon.
I've been using my Vibrant for 2 weeks now without any sort of protection on it and I have to say that the phone is very durable. I dropped it a couple of times and returned with no scratches. I'm soon to get one of those Mesh cases though, just for the appeal .
Had a Realook but it made the capacitative buttons along the bottom less sensitive. I took it off and am debating on going back to a screen protector. If my screen gets scratched up that bad I will just call Tmobile customer service and tell them I need a new phone because my phone is sucking down batteries in less than 2 hours. Works every time!!!!
I was running naked for a while but then I got one of the gel skins form TMO. Been using it on and off. I love the phone naked but I feel like im living on the edge without a case to protect it.
I tried a wet install one from ebay but it had bubbles and felt tacky...I have a amzer I went to put on twice but cannot get every tiny strand from microfiber off screen...Iget stuck with a few stubborn ones...So I been naked for a few weeks now and 0 scratches but i'm very anal and wash my hands dozens of times and handle it like it's an infant.

Dropped my first phone less than three feet on to a tile floor, on the third day I owned it. Screen looked fine (no cracks) but wouldn't work. Got a replacement, and still running naked. I just can't bring myself to cover this sexy bastard up.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah im loving the nekkid feeling. Im sure I'll decide when I get the other 2 sp's in. Definitely not gonna get rid of the gel skin. Not that its a bad thing, but it does make the phone twice as heavy and twice as thick. I'd just like to think that if I dropped the phone it would give some cushion to avoid a corner drop/crack screen.
I guess it comes down to:
Sexy ass phone thats, super light and has an extremely bright screen VS. protected investment... LOL
Had mine for a few weeks, i started out with the t-mobile gel skin and screen protector but instantly realized after putting it on that it was horrible and blurred the image and ruined the colors of the screen. I do like the gel skin though. It gives the phone slightly more thickness and heft, which i prefer, and i think it makes it more comfortable to use.
for the screen I started using just regular kitchen plastic wrap as a temporary measure, but i actually like it quite a bit. it is super thin and clear so the screen looks just as good as usual and is quite resistant to smearing from your fingers. You can drag your finger across the screen and hardly see anything at all. It also wraps around the sides of the phone and keeps little bits of crude from getting in between the chrome-ish bezel and screen. the biggest problem with it is that it just isn't very strong, which leads to replacing it every 2-3 days because of all the little nicks and scratches it picks up. you also need the gel skin in order to hold it on and and keep it from moving.
Android Streaking (Naked)
I ran my G1 Naked for the last year and a half using the "sleeve" that it came with without any issues, scratches, etc so I figured I'd do the same with the Vibrant.
I found a nice semi thick cloth sleeve case with a drawstring so it doesn't fall out when dropped and as a bonus it helps keep the screen clean of fingerprints, debris etc. I have dropped it onto tile from waist height 10 or so times and the case dampens the falls enough so far. I just hope I don't slip when it's not in the sleeve.
Streaking here since i bought it on friday it was released.
I've never had a condom for any of my phones. it's like covering up your Ferrari with a car bra. What's the point?
As we say in the car world, "She ain't a trailer queen, she's built for driving. Drive her."
Exactly!
I was running nekkiddd for a week.
Just bought the clearfreak and after 3 days with it I hate it!
Returning my phone to her original self.
This phone is staying as nude as a newborn.
Only device I have ever put in a case is my iPod touch, as that damn polished metal back scratches so easy and can drastically diminish resale value.
did anybody try the Carbon Fiber Protector Shield Full Body Skin on amazon
Mine has been case and screen protector free for a week now. I've also drunkenly dropped it on 3 or 4 occasions from ear / pocket height. There is no sign of drop not even a scratch. I've noticed the chrome ring around the screen is very durable (i think it might be metal?). And the phone is so light drops don't seem to effect is as much as big metal devices. The screen seems very tough and thick (much thicker than a nexus one screen).
So far im pretty impressed with the build quality considering the "cheap feel" in the hand. I guess we need to stop associating heft with quality.
My only real concern is breaking the volume rocker or power button. They seem extra cheaply made.
Realook. You cannot see its there. And I don't have any problems with the capacitives. Screen is as Vibrant as without it. It truly is invisible and un-feel-able.
right now I'm running nekkid. I wouldn't mind getting some type of case for it though, just in case of the accidental drop, or if my daughter throws it across the room like she did my MT3G (only received 1 small dent on the T-Mobile logo =) )
As for a screen protector, I would like to get one, just have been seeing mixed reviews on them.
i've had mine since launch and its still naked because the god damn USPS sucks a fat nut and wont just drop my THREE DOLLAR EBAY GELLI CASE off in the freaking mailbox because for some reason it ended up getting "signature required"
i pulled the lanyard off an old camera to be safe, i'm so paranoid im going to drop it.

it is soft plastic, no idea how you havent scratched yours. i have been extremely careful with my phone and noticed a small divot in the edge, i havent dropped it or put it anywhere that it could get scratched, no idea where it came from.
Happy to see most are not throwing money away on screen condoms, I have been naked since day one, screen is as new as when i first unboxed, This screen will not scratch PERIOD. For those you think that there is no differance between naked and using clear or ghost condoms, Just stop it, there is a differance, No matter how clear or ghost they claim your still putting a layer of material on the screen and it will effect the clearity, This screen is gorgeous and ment to be naked. BTW I have a TMO gel case incase i drop the phone and they are perfect together, Gives the phone that umph it was missing.

[g Note] Avoid Red Stripe White Leather Case from Ebay.

Hi everybody, first post. Good to be here.
Got WHITE RED STRIPE LEATHER CASE COVER & STAND case from ebay uk. It was cheap and didn't expect much of it. I expected it to last a month or so but after half a month I noticed a couple of things:
()It started to wear out pretty badly with not much use (the stitches on the edges especially). The black plastic that holds the phone had cracked on the spot where the power button is.
()The magnet on the clip created a pretty big dead spot for the S pen(on the screen), rendering the S Memo unusable sometimes.
So to avoid any damage from constant exposure to the magnet I decided to get rid of the case but not before tearing it open to see what it's made of.Here are some snaps of the "fantastic quality"(see attachment):
[drumroll] Yes, ladies and gentlemen. It's primary material is apparently ... dirty paper. I can't imagine what would happen if I held it out on a rainy day. So do yourselves a favor and save your £8 for something else.

Double dip flip case leaving marks

Double Dip Flip case, allows bits into your case and them bits harden and then scratch your aluminium back.
Just noticed 5 small black dots which will not rub off no matter what i do, I was loving this case and it's standing ability up until today, i've had it since day one, the red had faded around the edge and the edges of the flip had come off but it did the job, i take it off periodically to clean it but when i did it today i noticed some of the black marks which are sometimes left behind were not coming off.
I don't work on a building site or anything and i take care of my devices.
Just a heads up really.

hmm that's weird because if it's a scracth it should be silver on both silver and black version of the One, or is it something that comes off the case and stick on to the back of your phone?

Well i'm not sure, little bits do get behind it and the marks are really small, i just thought it was a bit weird that it had happened.
It's had marks on the back before and a little bit of zagg soap and it just wipes off with a decent cloth.
This time however it's left 4 - 5 small black marks up the top of the phone, which are black and i understand what you mean that aluminium is silver, but they're there clear as day, i'll take a pic tonight and upload it, perhaps it's just bad luck, but in over 5 years of using android i've never had a case do anything like this.
I know it's not my fault as i'm super careful with my devices, my S3 for example, never dropped it once in the 10 months that i had it. Same with my Desire HD, the Hero i dropped And my kid dropped under a bus
Anyway, the marks are clearly there and they are black as opposed to silver as u might think. I'll give it another good clean and maybe take a look under a magnifying glass to see if it's something i can paint in.
Do you have a silver phone?

I have a silver one, got the same marks as OP.

I dampened a soft cloth with water and just rubbed the marks away. They're gone.

Avoid cheap TPU cases - can scratch your HTC One!!

When i bought my HTC One Stealth Black, i made sure that i got a perfect model (no defects). I took about an hour in the shop examining all the black HTC One's (they agreed to open 3 boxes for me) before i finally made up my mind. I paid for my phone off-contract and went home perfectly happy with a 801e model (it also has a sticker on the side of the phone that says UKR and on the box as well, so i guess it's from Ukraine and i got a 3-pin power adapter in the box together with the standard 2-pin charger plug) and also got a free TPU case with screen protector, as gift from the shop. Well, i put my phone in the TPU case as soon as i got home for fear of any drops/bumps/scratches, put it in my jeans pocket and went through the rest of my day moving around. Later that afternoon, i pulled the phone out of its case to touch the cold aluminium back and to my horror, i found a scratch (there were no scratches whatsoever before) that matched the contour of the TPU case around the camera. The scratch is around the flash.
Conclusion: The cheap unbranded TPU case seemed to fit the phone snugly but apparently not, as the constant movement and rubbing of the phone within the TPU case from inside my jeans pocket had caused the sharp edge of the TPU case to slowly erode the paint coating. It's a good thing that i noticed it after only one day usage or the etching would have definitely gone deeper, possibly even exposing the aluminium colour after a couple of days. It says "nothing but the best" on the packaging of the unbranded case, which is ironic.
So, my advice (and the reason for my endless rant in this post): stay away from cheap TPU cases, even if it says TPU, which might be true about the material itself but the fact of the matter - without a tight fit of the phone inside the casing, the resulting inside friction between the phone and its casing will damage your phone, causing the paint to wear off. This is probably not applicable to those of you who chose/use the Glacial Silver HTC One, since any scratch will probably not show up. But with time, the constant friction might cause the scratch to become visible. I've attached pictures so you can understand why i'm *****ing about my One By the way, i apologize for my dirty camera lens.
Lesson learnt - i've already ordered 3 casings (the best i could find after hours of searching, for cases that offer a balance between compactness v/s protection); Cimo Grip Back Case Flexible TPU Black, Otterbox Commuter Black and UAG Aero. I wouldn't bother with any other cases, unless you want even more protection, then you should be satisfied with the Otterbox Defender case.
My friend .. ANY case you put on the phone has the potential to scratch the aluminum on the edges. It is simple physics: if you get some dust/sand in between the case and the aluminum (where in other locations can the dust/sand/lint settle ?) any slight pressure or movement of the case will cause a small surface defect. You can not hide from that and you can not prevent that.
Live with it ! It is called reality.

I had the black for a while. I think that it is prone to anything. Apart from light scratches sustained by using the double dip case, the camera cut out of an incipio case left a watermark on it as well. Now using a silver one and not a single scratch. Rotating between three cases.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't anodized AL WAY harder than TPU?
If it is, then isn't it PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for the case itself to scratch the phone?
Either a) there was dust/dirt in the case or
b) it's not a scratch, try wiping it with mild soap, water and a soft cloth.
Interesting thread...you were writing this 3 years ago, I just picked up two pristine condition used m7s, both with nearly all day batteries. Yesterday I got two cases of the first type described below.
I just love these phones so much. They are such a huge upgrade from any phone I have had since I had a droid 2 from motorola before knowing anything at all about these nifty little computers.
I just came in here to say that I will be getting the hard glass protection from now on for every phone I get. Would also recommend to anyone as it is far superior to foils.
Also three good types of cases:
- the hardened shell with no button coverage, and brushed metal exterior
- the clear plastic back, black bumpered semi hard with plugs and accurately designed button enhancers (distinguished by black surface lines on the back coming in from upper and lower edges about a cm each, towards the antennas)
-and believe it or not I really liked the ordinary rubber sort of cases with wavy line down the back and dual texture... as long as they have button covers. But those wouldnt be good for people who have a hard time with the buttons already.
Just picking up these phones starting in June 2016...has made my android experience so much more enjoyable...now being able to play top 3d heavy performance requiring games...and so much different development for the phones.
here's a couple pics of my phone cases I was describing. no scratches whatsoever on the two used like new phones, although its a used case on goldy. the other phones are for family and such, but also loving the cases on them. red looks good in red but it obscures the back... so take clear

Spigen GLAS.tR NANO SLIM Glass Screen Protector

I've had Spigen Glass tR screen protectors on my last two phones before the Nexus 5. Absolutely love them as it allows me to throw my phone in the same pocket as my keys without having to worry about scuffing up the screen with 9H hardness. They come at a heft price, $30-$40 USD. For our S4 the Glass tR Nano is $39.99 retail, can find it cheaper on eBay and such. Product info from their site.. http://www.spigen.com/brands/google/nexus-5/nexus-5-screen-protector-glas-tr-nano-slim.html
Anyone I just wanted to share my experience with them. Being my 3rd protector from them, you think I'd have the application process down. Nope. Went to apply it, and as it turns out I forgot the vacuum had just been run and there were a lot of dust particles in the air. I apply it, it goes smooth for once no air bubbles, but about 3 little dust specs happen to get between the screen and the protector. I attempt to fix it, and it just gets worse with over a dozen specs of dust now on the screen.
So I email Spigen eBay outlet where I got it from.. told them the exact story where it was a application problem, not a problem with the product, and they're sending me a replacement absolutely free of charge. Apparent from their great screen protector they have awesome customer support!
Nice! I've applied my GLAS.t today and it rocks. It's a little misaligned vertically yes (the speaker cutout is not 100% centered) but sh!t happens. There are some little air bubbles that'll go away, except one. Under that one air bubble there is a dust speck, really really really little bubble but I can see it on a white background.
I was EXTREMELY careful while cleaning the screen, that dust speck must have got there while applying the protector.
Should I get a replacement? I mean, how big were your air bubbles?
(It goes veeery nice along with the official bumper, btw.)

My air bubbles from the specks of dust weren't to large. And they were only visible if the screen was off, or screen was white. It was enough for a few of them to show up in photos that they request before they sent me a replacement. I had one small air bubble only maybe 5mm x 5mm wide or so at the largest in the upper right hand corner. Thats it.
Some advice I've gotten about applying screen protectors is do not apply them in a area with lots of air movement.. nor apply it in a area with absolutely no air movement. Area with high movement is pretty self explanatory... dust will blow around. And to my surprise I was told to avoid air-movement less stuffy areas. The reason being is in those area dust tends to collect on surfaces. When you sit down or move around slightly.. the sitting dust will be transferred into the air and could get stuck on the protector.
The Spigen is easy to apply. Line it up, drop it on, and just *tap* it slightly in the center and it does the rest and applies itself. Scrub a few bubbles off and you're good to go.
Either my this experience with them was great. I'm probably going to be buying some more for Christmas gifts for the parents that are getting their first smartphones next week.

Oh well. Mine is just one and it's like 1mm. Also the vertical misaligning is kind of invisible, and all the air bubbles went away (except for the dust speck one). Could have aligned it better but as soon as I got the protector near the screen it got attached to it. Didn't have to press the center: it applied for itself. Feels just like there's nothing on the screen.. Just glass. This thing is worth every cent, i can't even get near to the clarity I get here with a plastic film.

I tried installing my screen protector in the bathroom after I've turned on the shower on hot for about a few minutes.
No dust whatsoever on my application
I've just ordered mine and will post some pictures with my cruzerlite tpu case. I was curious about how it would fit.. Hope it works out!
