Hello,
I have a ARC S branded to TMN (a portuguese carier) and I as wondering if I can use flashtool to flash this firmware (ICS) directly over my branded GB firmware.
Thank you!
Yes you can.....I am on branded phone on uk3 and installed ics Nordic without any issue's.
Just make sure you follow guides in the 1st post.

Ok, Thanks!
What is the best backup software for apps and data?
If I have my apps on the SD card using link2sd will I still need to backup them?
Thank you!
The best backup tool to use if you are rooted is titanium backup this will backup app and data so if you install new Rom you can restore apps and data.
Regardless if they are on sd card you still need to backup

So I'm currently on my rooted Desire, with the standard/stock rom, however the small internal storage space is now starting to bug me a bit.
My question is, then, seeing as Leedroid GB is so close to the stock rom, will I be able to flash over the top without any wiping? The whole backing up and restoring is such a laborious process that I'd rather skip.
Anyone done it? I read on the FAQ that it could work but I thought I would check to see if anyone has actually been successful before doing it myself.
Thanks!
You must do a full wipe, make backup of your apps with Titanium Backup (You can download it on Market) and then you can restore them easily

Hi guys,
I am considering to upgrade to a new rom. Before I start with the procedure I have just one question:
Is it possible to backup the device before upgrading with a Backup App and restore after the rom upgrade?
I done it a lote of times with the Windows Mobile Devices and it worked like a charme, is it possible in Android Devices.
What´s the most indicated App to do it?
Thanks in advance

Or you can use ext4 recovery to restore data partition. Not recommended for different base..
Edited, you must have an existing nand backup.

Keep in mind that on Android, apps you have downloaded from Market will be backed up to your Google account.
Go Menu>Settings>Privacy and then tick Backup my Settings and Automatic Restore. Then when you install a new ROM and sign in with your same Google account it will automatically start downloading all your apps again.
For everything else I also use Titanium Backup but another alternative which some people prefer is MyBackup Pro.
Hello!
So this is what I did:
Rooted my R800at 2.3.3 with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4]
Installed CWM
Performed a Nandroid backup
Copied everything from my SD to my computer (including all dot/hidden files)
Installed Titanium Backup
So now I can freeze/delete stuff and really play around with my phone. If I need to restore my phone back to normal, I can:
Turn off phone
Wipe SD
Copy previously backed up files from my computer to my SD
Perform a Nandroid restore
Unroot with DooMLoRD's Unrooting Toolkit [v1]
Is this correct? Or do I need to use other backup tools? Sorry, I am a newbie and I am really trying to figure this out. I appreciate all the help I can get!
Yes, a Nandroid will completely restore your phone. However there is no need to wipe your sd card
Awesome. Thanks! I'm down to 30 MB free of internal so I'm itching to purge.

Hi,
I rooted my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc which was on ICS OS. Before rooting I used the SE Back and Restore application to take my backup. After the root was completed, I copied the apk file for the same from my PC to the root SD folder (also tried updating the build.prop file and deskclock.apk as was mentioned in some other forum).
Now when I try to install the backup and restore apk file, it just doesnot install. Screenshot attached. I really need help in restoring all my data.

Unfortunately it doesn't work on ICS.

Flash back to v2.3 Gingerbread, restore all your data, root, install CWM, run a Nandroid backup.
Upgrade to ICS, restore.
Or use third party programs:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync
If you have root install titanium backup this will back up and restore from a back up.
This feature is available in pro version not sure if available in free version.

You will have to find an Xperia Phone running Stock 2.3 firmware.
Then you can use your backup and restore the contacts to the phone.
Sync the contacts with Google and Voila!
Let me know if it works!!

Titanium requires root. Helium doesn't, but you need to install some drivers on your pc and connect the phone to the pc (just to initialize the first time or every time you reboot) if you want to backup without rooting. (dunno why he doesn't want to root, root allergies?). Or he could just use the Sony Backup&Restore app. There's been some fuss about it not working, but from what I can see I can backup data of system apps just fine. Not Play Store apps, but most keep their data on the SD and you can find what apps you had installed in the Play Store.

There's threads with ICS ftf files in the General section. I don't need to hold your hand do I? Thorough steps: backup your data, open flashtool (read a guide on how to use flashtool, it pretty much explains itself though), flash the ftf that you download (oh and wipe data if you switch Android versions), reboot your phone, restore your backup.
where can i find recovery image to boot xperia s in recovery mode and kernel for stock Jellybean???
