Hi guys,
I am considering to upgrade to a new rom. Before I start with the procedure I have just one question:
Is it possible to backup the device before upgrading with a Backup App and restore after the rom upgrade?
I done it a lote of times with the Windows Mobile Devices and it worked like a charme, is it possible in Android Devices.
What´s the most indicated App to do it?
Thanks in advance
Jorge

U can use titanium backup...download from market

Or you can use ext4 recovery to restore data partition. Not recommended for different base..
Edited, you must have an existing nand backup.

Keep in mind that on Android, apps you have downloaded from Market will be backed up to your Google account.
Go Menu>Settings>Privacy and then tick Backup my Settings and Automatic Restore. Then when you install a new ROM and sign in with your same Google account it will automatically start downloading all your apps again.
For everything else I also use Titanium Backup but another alternative which some people prefer is MyBackup Pro.

Hi,
sorry i am quite new to the whole rom upgrade issue.
Recently i installed Pauls Mod for the Desire. After installing some Apps i did a Backup via Titanium Backup (Batch -> Backup all user apps + system Data).
Then i installed the Ahmgsk modified version (wiped all -> installed rom). Then i did a restore via Titanium Backup.
Some of the Apps do not work and i had to reinstall them (Google Earth, all Apps which need Superuser Permission, Swype etc..).
All Settings (APN, Google Accounts etc..) were gone.
Is there any way to backup and restore some of these settings? Do i really have to do a full wipe before installing the new rom?
thx in advance.
also awaiting an answer to this.

Come from WM and this is the type of noob question I now need to know the answer to!
Would use UC for WM - are the settings held on the storage card somewhere??
I guess most of the basic reading is going to be somewhere in the older Android device forums.
Would be great if someone would put some links in a sticky to 'what new Android users really need to know!'
I need to get edumacated!
i think nandriod does this trick afaik

Hello, I have HTC Desire HD. I rooted the phone with Ace Hack Kit and installed Cyanogen on the phone. I have a few questions:
1. I did a rom backup with all my apps installed with ROM manager just before I did the install. Then I did the factory erase and did a rom backup again saving it under a different name. My question is when you do a rom backup does it backups everything such as your apps, messages in inbox...
2. On HTC I had HTC sence so If I lose my phone I would be able to trace it and lock it or erase it. Can I install this on Cyanogen?
3. I had some messages in inbox, but they didnt come back when I synhronized. I was wondering if they are stored somewhere in the rom backup and if I can extract them back or I can just install the rom backup?
Thank you all for help
1. Do not know about the sms/mms, but it backs up everything apps ect, and you will find those in clockwork recovery / restore / advanced restore / system /data (i think)
2. Go to the market and install Cerberus, its classed as a free app but it does ask for a 2euro donation to unlock all features, which is the cheapest app on the market for what it offers you in protection with out any monthly fees ect.
3. Text messages are not synced with google servers, if they are stored on the backup i dont know what they would be under maybe someone else can help you out with that one, but imo they are only text messages, im pretty sure it wont be long before someone else texts you again. (You could always in the future use smsbackup and just make a backup before you flash a new rom again)
Try titanium to back everything

backup all with titanium. then you try simply instal beta 8 over 7. When it will not good, then wipe all, install 8 and restore apps from backup.
titanium backup is the best solution for this..
you can also backup apps with App Backup & Restore... it will backup the apps and restore without downloading the apps again
Titanium Backup is the way to go. I fully recommend paying for the pro version if you plan on flashing a lot.
Just search the Play Store for it.
It also has the ability to backup your phone log, messages, and wifi hotspots, which is increasingly handy.
You also have the ability to back up to GDrive and DropBox.
Just don't restore system apps or data, as you don't want to restore older versions into a new ROM.

Hello all,
Question is:
How to create a full backup of your phone (applications, photos, music and so on) that you can restore after flashing a firmware to your phone??
I am desperate making it manual (copy music, see what apps you need again, etc) each time i flash a rom!!!
Please advise!
(I hope I am not the only one having this issue .... )
Thx

adb backup if you're not rooted.
If rooted then titanium backup pro best app available for tasks like this. Has a batch feature to backup what you need and restore again also you can save your backup to dropbox.

It is somehow helpfull, but still:
It works for all user installed apps flawless.
BUT i cannot complete it for system apps! For none of them! It doesnt give me an error or so, it (the progress bar) just freezes when trying to backup sys apps....
My phone is of course rooted...

I been searching the forum and having a hard time looking for the type of help I need. I have a Desire Z running Cyanogen Mod I think version 9. I want to back everything up and restore it to an HTC One. What is the best/easiest method? I want to keep ALL apps/data. Will Rom Manager or Titanium Backup do the Trick?
I would advise against it, not only are you going from one phone to another but different android versions. If it were me I would just install apps from market and then set up everything fresh, but feel free to try titanium, some of it could restore ok
