I made a mistake rooting a friends droid incredible and left s-on, I have clockwork but it cant flash anything, I presume its because of the s-on. I wiped the phone without a backup to install miui, so I now have a droid incredible that can only get into hboot, clockwork, and fastboot. It also will not install 31img.zips, Yes ive renamed them correctly I just call them 31's. Help please?
You need to flash an RUU in the form of PB31IMG.zip. It needs to be named PB31IMG.zip and on the root of a FAT32 formatted sdcard. If you use the froyo RUU on pvillecomp.com you can use unrevoked to root again though your friend will just want it working.
My HBOOT wont give me the option to flash, it finds it and checks it, but wont let me install. im downloading the froyo ruu right now in hopes that it will connect through fastboot and do it.
What is your hboot version?
Tiny you are more knowledgeable at this than I, but I was wondering
1) would using PB31IMG's fail if used on the 1.02 hboot?
2) If they were to use the unrevoked tool to flash s-off, could they install a rom without having to boot into the already wiped phone?
I am on hboot version 1.02. My nexus and optimus s were so simple.
(sorry for double post) RUU's will not work

Have you used the htc dev site to unkock the bootloader? If not you need to do that, then fastboot flash cwm recovery, then flash superuser thru cwm recovery.

I would try flashing unrevoked forever before doing anything else. Logically this would get you s-off and allow you to flash a ROM. I wouldn't run straight to unlocking your bootloader because it is a lot harder to reverse that than it is to reverse the effects of unrevoked forever. (in the long run, that is. right now there would be no reason to reverse either)

actually bootloader is easy to lock. I think it's fastboot oem lock. You can unlock it again using the same token you used to unlock before that you should save if you decide to do that. Unrevoked forever only works on certain radio versions. With an unlocked bootloader you should be able to flash any PB31IMG.zip as well as flash with fastboot. With S-OFF I know you can flash custom PB31IMG.zip and also older RUUs.

Yes, but doesn't it then say 're-locked bootloader' or something to that effect where verizon or whoever else could tell that it has been unlocked before and therefore void any warranty? Whereas the s-off tool can be reversed using the s-on tool and nobody has to know anything was ever there. I don't have any experience in that department, I'm just speculating based on things that I have read.

Maybe, but I think when you submit for an unlock token is when HTC knows you unlocked your bootloader.
I have unlocked the bootloader and flashed the stock recovery. where can I go from here? can anyone provide an update.zip? all the links seem to be down for the froyo one

That is probably true, I never thought of that. I guess they probably think that I have an unlocked bootloader now too since I made an account and downloaded the tool to help a friend with his phone.

additionally, why did you flash stock recovery vs. CWM? I don't have any experience with stock but CWM seems to be perfect for anything I've ever needed a recovery for. ie - flashing new ROMs or backing up/ restoring ROMs

Do steps 6 - 27 of this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258 to install cwm recovery and get root. If you want true s-off continue to follow steps 28 - 43.

No need for doing S-OFF since this version of bootloader can be unlocked without it. If you really need it for something, the only solution I've seen so far is using XTC Clip device, google it.
First backup everything you'll need later using some backup app, unlocking will require factory reset.
Go to HTC dev and unlock your bootloader, a bit lengthy procedure, but not so hard, just follow the instructions on site.
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
After your bootloader is unlocked, get Clockworkmod recovery for your phone from
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Use fastboot command you have used in unlocking phase to flash recovery. Phone should be connected via USB, in hboot mode, fastboot option chosen, drivers installed on PC, but you should learn all those details during unlocking phase. Command should look like:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Now you can enter Clockworkmod recovery by entering HBOOT and selecting recovery option. Get familiar with it
Now,
1) If you just wish to root your phone, nothing else, use CWM recovery to install this zip
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=672519&d=1312136127
It will add Root access app to your phone.
2) Since you worked hard, you deserve better than this. Install newer and more awesome ROMs using CWM recovery
I've tried Cyanogenmod 7,9 and 10, few MIUI versions, WildChild 3.3, and one AOKP version so far, using Oliver96's CM 10 ALPHA2 build at the moment, needed a lot of effort (SD partitioning, installing custom Google Apps, various tricks to get more space on /system, etc), but now I have Android 4.1 and everything works as charm

That has nothing to do with S-OFF. That is because you are not flashing the CM boot.img in fastboot after flashing the rom in CWM. With an unlocked bootloader you need to do that everytime you flash a rom.
You can acquire eng S-OFF quite easily if you use a mirror to get AAHK. Simply download the PD98IMG files manually when the script needs them. Worked for me today.

Phone: DHD, 3.20.502.52, ATT
I have successfully unlocked the phone (via HTCDev)
And have successfully rooted the phone.
I installed the ROM Manager and Titanium Backup.
I have the ADB drivers successfully installed on my computer.
I also have HTC Quick Root running on my computer.
I am NOT able to get the CWM Recovery installed on the phone. I always get a " /cache/data..." error.
I've searched and read a number of threads that have indicated the DHD Gingerbread is particularly difficult to get ROM Manager fully working. I tried the process outlined here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39016279), using the easyunlock tool. the script appears to run fine, i've even gone through the redundant step of putting the unlockcode received from htcdev into the tools directory and allowing the script to complete, which it appears to do fine. However, the script indicates the phone should execute some commands as a final step, at which point my phone is already sitting in the bootloader menu and does nothing.
I'm reasonably comfortable with ADB commands and the terminal emulator on the phone.
Can anyone help me understand why I'm failing and what I might do to get the CWM Recovery installed and get ROM Manager working?

If the Easy Ace Root Tool worked fine, then you should have CWM recovery installed....Rom manager needs you to be rooted to work, but an unlocked bootloader allows you to flash a custom recovery.
Hi all, I have a Incredible 2 that I just took out to see what I can do with it. I want to sim unlock it for international use but so far it has not been working the way I wanted Right now it is S-off, HBOOT 6.13.1002 with radio 1.09.01.0622. I am currently on Incredible 2 HD rls 1.1 and I inserted a att sim and it still said no service. I went to change it to gsm only and rebooted and it still say no service. I heard that there's a gsm patch but it's for version 4.02 of this rom and it was recommended not to flash with the 1.1 release. I also do have a unlock code from verizon but I do not know how to revert back to the stock rom and keep s-off. Would someone help me please? Thank you so much!
Edit for more information:
The phone now is not using verizon, I did get the carrier unlock code from verizon but I do not know how to enter it because I'm not on stock rom. Also putting in a t-mobile sim or a att sim didn't pop up a sim unlock code for me to enter in If I am missing anymore information please let me know so you guys can help me out! Thank you.
If you can find a copy of skyraider, use that. It's based on stock, so it can be unlocked.

Never mind, is this it? http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8577-romgb-skyraider-zeus-13-inc2-4086053/page__st__40 Also something seems to be wrong with my phone, it can never connect to google market! I wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache before all rom. Is there anyway I can set this phone back to complete stock from verizon? Like wipe everything and starts fresh? No matter what rom I tried it just won't connect to google market or make any sim work.
What is the best way to go back to complete stock while still keeping s-off, and unlock bootloader? If I can't then I do not mind going back to the latest stock recovery for this phone, as long as I can sim unlock fine! Thanks for your help!

After you run the PG32IMG or whatever it is called, take it off your sd card, or rename it. Otherwise it will try to run every time your phone passes the bootloader. You don't want that to happen.
I don't have an actual sd card... I think I will just put it into the internal memory and use recovery to install the zip right? Or do I just put it on there, reboot and it will automaticaly start installing?

Alright, I have successfuly restored it to stock but I am now unrooted and on 2.3.4 so how would I root this baby and put clockwork mod recovery touch or 4ext touch and start installing roms that will work for GSM such as the incredible hd release 1.1 or the virtuousaffinity? You need to follow the root instructions for installing recovery, then flash a superuser zip in that new recovery. I don't have all the links or the downloads, but that should be enough info to get you there.
Edit:
Also, you may have to sim unlock it before doing anything else I'm not familiar with that since I'm on big red, so search around and maybe someone with better knowledge will answer here.

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

he doesn't need to update the hboot, he can easily flash the engineering one and do it a way lot easier.
I am doing what Steam. has said. but since I am running Windows 8, I am encountering some .NET Framework issue unfortunately. trying to resolve them first :/
OK I finally got the .NET Framework working. Gonna try out the process (Gonna read the ENG S-OFF) Obviously

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.
Example:

just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.
