I have Rom toolbox and was wondering if it was safe to use. Can I change the boot animation with it?

You should be able to do anything included in romtoolboxes features except use the theme changes.. Just be careful with some of the settings

Gb rom. Not ready to try ics.
Sent from my kickass phone
I tried it on my wt19i GB stock rooted.
it makes the international keyboard crash, but you can use chines one instead ;-).
any way it deserve to give a try after CWM backup.
Rom Toolbox is a great utility. However, that being said, please make sure you make a nandroid backup of your OS before using it. Some settings may render the phone unbootable if applied.
I tried some of the performance tweaks earlier, and I got boot looped. I am on ics tho.

GB rom here. I overclocked my cpu and forgot to uncheck the 'Apply on boot' and then the phone froze and it never booted again. LOL
I had to restore a backup.

Not sure how it happened...well I do know....Flashed offical CWM for ROM Manager, but didnt think it took because it said I need a CWM compatible kernel. And then i used E4gtauto to add CWM-rogue because i didnt think I had it....so today when i booted into recovery from ROM toolbox, it went to CWM, did a nand and rebooted, but it booted into Rogue...? How can I get rid of one of them?
The nand you restored had a kernel with rogue on it. You should only have rogue on there now.
And I don't know if others feel this way, but I always only use the built in reboot menu or volume and power buttons(from off state) to go into recoveries and download mode, reduces issues

Please do yourself a favor and never ever use rom manager on this phone again, it will give you some shiny paperweight eventually
Thanks for the heads up, but what about ROM toolbox? It seems to be fine even rebooting into recovery among other things...

I usually one click back to el29, install CWM, and then flash another ICS rom but it's very time consuming. Is there a faster and safe way?
What I did was nandroid my gingerbread system. Then I can flash whatever I want and restore gingerbread whenever I want to go back.

Restoring a GB nandroid on an ICS ROM won't cause the phone to brick?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
It can. I'd suggest just keeping chris41gs ICS aosp/tw kernels in SD card. That way you can just Odin his kernel (if you're not already using it) and flash whatever from there

so i got a question that ties into that statement. i am about to use the auto root tool to get cwm. i am currently on stock ics rooted. would i be able to flash whatever rom i choose without having to one click back to a GB Build?
(this used to be way easier on my OG Evo, lol)

Yes you would. Just install FF18-CWM-agat-src kernel. Of course make a backup first just in case you get into trouble but I have been doing it over and over with no issues... So far

So I'm coming from cm10 on my phone. I have tried to install to touchwiz base roms and after installing the screen turns black right after the boot screen that says galaxy s3. Wondering why? Any tips?
Has happened in two romz. Wiped everything prior to. I am able to flash and run aosp Roms without issue. Running the latest cwm

AOSP kernel maybe? I know some (all?) of the stock based ROMs don't flash a kernel. Just a guess, haven't gone from AOSP to stock.
Do you have a nandroid of a touchwhiz rom ? I go back and fourth to cm10 to my stock nandroid backup without issue. Try that.

Kernel was on my mind today since I went from WanamLite to DietICS and suddenly WiFi stopped working. It was because I had flashed the faux123 kernel while on WanamLite and had to reflash it after going to DietICS. Little things I'll eventually get used to!

Yep definitely kernel, would a said so immediately as I had same issue. Always be weary of the kernel u have installed when flashing to new or different rom as many roms dont have a kernel with them. And many custom kernels will cause this issue. U got it figured out anyways so live and learn and keep it in mind for future

So basically I was having issues with my phone and ended up getting a warranty replacement. So b4 I sent my old one back I needed to revert it back to stock. I found a flashable zip from zedomax that returned the stock kernel, recovery, and ROM. Only thing it was 2.3.5 gingerbread. I was running infamous 3.1 and did darkside super wipe and cache., well after flashing the zip I got the stock recovery, and part of stock boot animation, well after the stock boot animation then came the infamous animation then nothing. It wouldn't boot up past that.,I ended up using Odin and fixing it and converted stock that way. My question is... Is there a special method going from ics to gb?

Yeah just use odin or a flashable zip to return to stock no big deal
I know how to Odin and get stock...I'm asking if there's anything special to go from an ics ROM to a GB ROM? BC when I did it I soft bricked, using all the darkside
Wipes.

And btw I know the zip wasn't corrupt BC I had used it b4 when I did an exchange when I was running GB already.

I have flashed from GB to ICS back and forth a few times never really had an issue like that the only real issue I have ever had was a few apps force closing but a quick wipe of the cache took care of that issue

don't use the CWM flashable zips. if you do you should flash the rom and kernel too? you probably did but sometimes it doesn't work correctly. I would suggest flashing via odin to get to stock then wipe data/factory reset through stock recovery. that is the cleanest method to get to stock. the CWM flashing to zip sometimes leave stuff behind from earlier flashes.
I installed the hercules kernel posted by faux123 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372690&highlight=kernel
The situation:
I was on break for lunch, about to make a call then my phone crashed and restarted. The boot screen appeared starting the phone and froze on completion. I tried restarting multiple times, taken out the battery for a long period of time and even tried booting into recovery mode. No positive results came. The frozen screen is still there.

I would try going into Download Mode, restoring a stock ROM, and then re-root from the beginning.
Could you please provide a bit more information?. What rom did you install it on? and which faux Kernel you installed??.
that was my initial thought, but now I'm home and just flashed recovery first then flashed the stock rom. Had problems starting up at first then i did a full wipe (dalvic and system). The phone booted like a champ. do you know a stable rom or kernel?
@Octane, I installed the kernel on a stock rom and I used the gingerbread mainline edition kernel from the link.
It sounds like you installed the wrong kernel, maybe.
