9/22/10 Where's the OTA?

I just wanted to make this thread for the rumored OTA, once it's out someone post here. Can't wait for that FPS boost, it'ss be even better than 53 fps!
(BTW if you don't know which OTA I'm referring to, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699290 I made this thread because this is only reguarding this OTA, and is a small thread, meanwhile that one is 141 pages, so... yea)

Anyone know if this OTA will include the stagefright fixes (which made Pandora on 3G work again) from 3.28 ? I'd assume it will but just wanna make sure before installing it.

Previous OTA's have been released about 12pm eastern that I have noticed, so if there's one coming, it should be in the next couple of hours

I haven't seen anything about a new OTA... especially something lifting the FPS cap... where's the source? I seriously must've missed something huge..

yep its definitely coming... now if it has any sort of FPS or GPS fixes, that's the 'big secret':

3.29, passed right by yet unreleased OTA 3.28.. how's this possible leaks of OTA, PRI and full RUU (NV1.71) and nobody caught this one until practically it's release date. Haha they using good tactics..

The update on Sprints site says nothing about an FPS break...

maybe sprint doesnt consider fixing the 30fps cap a new feature, but rather a bug fix so they didnt include it? Hell I really dont know. I would like 60fps, ALL THE TIME. without "hacks" to get it to work. ooo and full HDMI please. LOL

Well, the changelog for 3.26.651.6 makes no mention of Froyo, probably the biggest change. So there's still hope.

perhaps htc is finally using the leaks as a way of testing, because they dont have enough in house testers with all the new devices they keep releasing?
they have even started farming out business to OEM partners so they can put out an android tablet and still maintain the mobile phone schedule.

I started receiving a notification on the 21st that an update was avail for the voicemail app - no other Sprint flavored updates yet. Raleigh, NC area location.

Well I'm off to school. Hopefully by the time I get back its ready to be installed.

Yes, sounds like its coming very soon indeed, i called Samsung Sweden yesterday for another cause but i asked them about 2.2 and they said that they hoped to have it released on kies before the week ends..

Except for the negative image for samsung if they deliver a crappy froyo release. I'm so afraid this is going to be disappointing for many people who expect their devices to be 4 times as fast and stuff...
I just hope for a proper stable release, preferably with the filesystem changed (but I doubt that's gonna happen) which just works good out of the box.

There too many weird bugs in JPH to be released as final. I had an alarm set,m removed it and it still went off later on the day. Apart from that other people reported tons of small and big bugs and issues.

Experienced the same on official jm2

I don't expect that much from official release. Moreover I can't understand the reason why they had to limit the ram amount in 2.1. Than about jit...hum do they know what is it?

There are no limit of ram in 2.1, the 2.1 sgs uses already have highmem support.
Its samsungs bloated firmware that reserve more than 200MB for itself.

why galaxy tab have 425 MB of ram ? hardware is the same. and why galaxy tab play 1080p videos ?

haha, just called samsung support austria and the guy told me that he doesn't know exactly when it will come, he can only tell me that it will be this year (most likely) ... *bad* samsung, *bad*

any idea what firmware I need to have installed for kies to detect a new firmware update incase one gets released.
I am currently using JM8 but thats after all not an officisl firmware so not expecting keys to find updates.

JM1 rev. 3 - you can install it via Kies faking some registry settings - all was descibed on this forum. No root, no lag fix. JM1 official is bareable without lag fix.

you're still missing the point. the rollout is not every phone at once, its staggered.

As much as I hope it is released for our phones, a single person who does live chats all day may not be the most rock-solid source. Any number of things could turn out to have happened, from misreading an information sheet before giving you said information to her being just plain wrong.
Thank you for posting this though, it is important that up to date information like that is made public. Its just that I'm not sure if one representative saying it is on its way is a complete confirmation.
Does anyone know how reliable these live chats usually are?

Not very reliable in this case since they are not allowed to give too much information out to the public. I posted a thread after I talked to one of Samsung's live representatives and they told me that the update would come in a matter of weeks. You can check my thread out if you want.

Ah yes I found that thread. Well if it was more than just one confirmation that adds too the legitimacy :good: I don't want to get my hopes up but its looking good!

I'd love for this to be true. I'm holding off on updating to a custom rom in case they push KitKat and it doesn't work after using the stock restore posted.

I just went to change my sim card to one with secure element, and ask guy at At&t store ( is said "manager" on his name tag) about kitkat for S3. He answer

Make sense since S5 will be release in April so they can bust sell of S5 before they let us have it KitKat on S3.

Can anyone explain what would be the advantage of an official kk rollout from AT&T?
At this point in time AOSP kk roms are fully functional, no need to hang with an ugly fat chick like touchwiz haha

I've been using kk with pwncake's Quantum ROM for so long now, that I'm not very inclined to go back to touchwiz either. It's just too late.

Kit Kat does bring down memory usage, so if you use or want some of the S applications and features that Touchwiz has, you should see better performance due to released memory.
Theoretically that is, I've been on CM11 nightlies for awhile now.

Some cant work with non stock roms...

Or, like me, simply do prefer them over AOSP ROMs
Anyway, Xposed now fills the gap of what's missing in most cases

No it isn't out for OTA.. yet, but this is what is expected to be the Verizon Android 5.1 OTA.

If you are S=OFF, you can flash the leaked firmware and the stock 5.1 rom and it will be as if you took the ota (and much more).

No, you will get instant boot loops.
May I ask why you would want to run a new firmware and not the new ROM?

Old habits die hard: on the M7, newest firmware worked with most rom verisons.
The M9 is different, as I'm learning. Thanks for the answer..

I think the next M9 Verizon OTA will be 2.6.605.12. Been testing that ROM out and it's pretty solid. They definitely have the camera software updated; took some fantastic macro images with it yesterday as "reference" images for another handset I'm testing.

No; I don't really have the software (or software platform) to play with RAW images. I just took a few; the interface is pretty decent. A lot easier to adjust settings manually. Admittedly, the lack of OIS somewhat offsets the ability to do RAW. I still much prefer the M9 camera to my M8. Not even a close call there.

I felt the same way, when I was initially testing 5.1 and couldnt get deodex to boot, I decided to go back to my 5.0.2 ROM, and had to flash back to 5.0.2 firmware due to boot loop issues.

Macro is definitely the one thing I notice. My rezound used to take stellar macro pictures so I keep doing the keyboard photo test on this phone to compare and it is getting much better for sure

I ran the new firmware with Viper 2.3.1 (which is 5.0.x based). I didn't have any boot loops, but it did randomly reboot a few times. It wasn't a full reboot either - it only took ~15 seconds, so I think it was more like a Sense reboot and not the full ROM (??).

We have these things called "NDA's", and I need to adhere to it as in between ROM flashes I practice law.
I have seen a reference (can't remember where) to a Sense 7.1 ---- wonder if that's what it's about. Might have just been something I misread without my reading glasses on.
And, FWIW, there is a small clique of testers who are in regular touch (I'll let them out themselves) and that's how you see some things pop up so fast.....they're ready to roll as soon as devices are public, so the NDA no longer bars release.

I know what NDAs are, don't worry. I'm actually surprised that the HTC NDA even allows you to acknowledge that you're testing software or further, making comments about how it's working.

He's not supposed to actually. Hence the Non-Disclosure part of it lol. Everyone knows it's coming though and it's not like he's given away any info other than it runs smooth.

Right, and technically, I play pretty close to the limits. I didn't talk about the hardware until the hardware specs were released, and I haven't talked about software until it's been released. I've also qualified a lot of my posts with "I suspect," or "I expect" when I actually knew. For instance, there were lots of rumors about what the M9 would look like while I had one in my hand from January on. All I would post (until the release) was a variation on "I don't think so."
They see us testers as somewhat evangalistic, which is probably accurate. I won't criticize a device prerelease because it could always get better. But ask me anything about the M8, which I've had since release date last year, or the Desire 612 which I tested last summer, and I won't hold back.

So, just for curiosity sake, how did you end up pretesting m9 and roms specifically. Did you have a golden ticket, or did they ask you, do you work for Verizon or HTC. Just curious, nothing else
