Hi
Most of you know Cook Android
and most of you used it and enjoyed it.
Sadly, This kitchen can go down any moment.
As you know, cooking rom needs a good server. But the problem is that we don't have enough money to buy a server.
You can help us by making a small donation.
If you want to help us, open http://cookandroid.com/ and press ChipIn.
Thanks everybody.
Remember that you donate by pressing the "ChipIn" button, it's very important.
I've helped l1nuxfre4k with some of his server issues before, so while I'd like to encourage this, I'm not 100% convinced it will be sustainable. Out of respect for him and his projects, I won't reveal any of his costings (he is free to do so, or anyone who has his permissions) but a full dedicated server will cost hundreds of USD per month [just noticed, call it $80 as that's the request], as naturally it also requires a lot of storage and bandwidth.
In the initial months, donations will probably cover this, however if a month comes where they fall short, we will be in exactly the same place as where we started - they have to either use their own money to keep the project going or shut it down for months - but somehow store the terabytes of data externally for free (very unlikely).
This is the main reason I'd prefer that, somehow, a different route was taken (especially for Cook Android). If it stays small (by small, I mean like Desire only) I think the best form of 'donation' would be something like the donation of computing power (like cloud) from users with sufficient uplinks that when their PC is online, it will generate some ROMs, or the release of a user-binary where the application will download the ROM and cook it on their PC.
I would be all for the development and/or assisted development of such an application. Just my 2 cents.

This donation for Desire and Nexus One kitchen and we will make kitchens for more devices but we need people to manage them.
We can't update roms and apps for every device by ourselves. So we need people to manage those kitchens. It's so easy to make kitchen for another device but it's hard to manage it.
If we got enough donations, we will hire persons to manage those kitchens.
hi, i had a problem with your cook android. I made a rom with the core (Desire GR edition 2.0) and add some programs (from which are there in the site). It was told that everything was correctly done, but when i upload it to the phone, end in loop - not starting the rom. I tried to wait, i made a ext2. but it isn`t working.
Please help me.
thanks

Sorry for your problem.
What did you add to the rom exactly?
Did you tick on Apps2SD?
Did you change the boot animation?
Did you upload programs?
I add this programmes.
Flash Player 10....data/app/
Advanced Task Killer....data/app/
Facebook....data/app/
Market Enabler....data/app/
Estrongs File Explorer....data/app/
Adobe Reader....data/app/

Maybe the problem is that you chose Apps2SD. You don't have to add Apps2SD since the rom itself has Apps2SD.

We need java support to sign the roms, so that is the problem.
The update is absolutely THE single worst and cataclysmic update in Android history. Your grandkids will be asking you about the Dropbox disaster of 2011.
Anyways don't update it:
1. It will delete the Dropbox folder from your sd card,
2. Any files you want to save from the updated version of Dropbox must be "exported"; you have to choose the path every single bloody time,
3. "Favourites", or files available offline, are saved to android/data/data.
An analogy to drive it home: You buy a 2013 Porsche GT3, sight unseen, turns out the 2013 is based on a 1979 Lada chassis and drivetrain.
Haha, Thanks for the warning, I was just about to do my weekly updates too, I think I'll give this one a miss.
I suppose it's like going home with Liz Hurley and finding out she's Herrmann Munster

I wonder how long until they revert back??!!
Your analogy is also 100% valid.
I made the mistake of backing up via Ti BU before I realized how bad the update was. I ended up extracting the old version from a nandroid b/u.
Re: reverting to the old version, judging by the reviews, it shouldn't take long!
I've just got myself 50GB on box.net using the exploit, I think I'm going to leave dropbox, it just keeps going down hill like a turd on a slippery slide.

I'm out at the moment but do a search in the forums, I think they're is a thread in the general section. It involves editing your build.prop to mimic an LG so be careful.

What a load of BS. No files are deleted whatsoever. They have been moved to Android / data / com.dropbox.android / files / scratch.
So no more dedicated Dropbox subdir in root but finally in /Android. The way it should have been in the first place. Less clutter.
you have to choose the path every single bloody time

Again, false. Let's say you export a file to Dropbox/Test/FCOL. Upload another file? Boom there we are, again in Dropbox/Test/FCOL, nothing to be clicked to get there.
The new update rules. It looks amazing. Finally the possibility to upload multiple files at once (not a whole directory at once though, alas), the image/mp3 preview is nice, etc.
Can't please 'em all I guess. That's fine, just don't spread FUD for nothing please.
No problems here with Dropbox .

As long as 20% of users were kept happy, that's "success". Either way I'm onto another program now so it's a moot point. I applaud your use of acronyms however.
600 MB additional free storage
Hi all
Just found a smart way to increase your Dropbox account with 600 MB:
1 Sign into your existing Dropbox account (or create a new account)
2 Goto https://www.dropbox.com/free
3 Follow instructions ... and voila 600 MB additional free storage

Who are you, dropbox sales team leader??!!
FYI, I do enjoy it, but your talking out of your arse.
I can upload/download multiple files with box and 100mb is MORE than enough for me.
I also find box more user friendly than dropbox and with better speeds.
So you enjoy being a dropbox fan boy and climb back under your bridge.
The problem with Box.net is that it doesn't have a free-sync option from the desktop. Desktop sync is for Enterprise/Paid users. Dropbox free quota is totally free by all means.
I didn''t like the update either. It now saves files in
/sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch
which unfortunately is more complicated than
/sdcard/dropbox/
but it's here now and I don't know how to roll back. Also when opening a file with dropbox, does it auto-upload a file when saved? I'm not sure it does anymore...
Here's link for a tutorial on a way to increase your dropbox storage for free.
http://www.ghacks.net/2012/02/02/increase-your-dropbox-space-by-4-5-gigabyte/
Just did it this morning works out fine. Oh and if you don't have 4.5 GB of photo's around to upload here's a link to a dummy photo files that will be accepted into drop box. http://goo.gl/ircYf Just extract the tar file with either winrar or 7zip and you should a folder with 4.5 gigs of dummy photo images.

i've been filming high qual vidz on my phone.. 500mb each and uploading em one at a time. your way is faster
I have the new client installed, did it yesterday and I have 3 gig total space. When I uploaded your file, it got to the 3 gig limit and said I had used all of my space with out giving anymore.....any ideas??
Dropbox 1.3.12 is what I'm using....thanks in advance.
Drop box will only give the increased space if you upload it via the camera upload feature. So no uploading videos will not work, and also dragging the pictures into the camera upload folder in dropbox will not work also.
Also the new experimental build is 1.3.13
https://www.dropbox.com/help/287
Ok....I still dont get it...sorry. Do I need to move your file over to my phone and then plug it into my PC??
Edit: I got it...move pics to phone start everything and let them upload....I also have the new version...thanks.
Install the latest experimental build. Rename the folder to camera, if you are using your phone save it in your Internal Storage in the DCIM folder.
Then go to Control Panels > Hardware & Sound > Autoplay
Then put your phone into MTP mode by disabe usb debug mode in application development
Set your auto play to use drop box like below
Then plug in your phone again and it should start uploading via the drop box camera upload
Ooo thanks for the dummy files. I had started last night uploading what little pictures I actually had but this is much easier!

I don't think you read the directions.
FWIW, I just downloaded the experimental build of Dropbox to my computer, downloaded the dummy files in the OP, threw them on a thumb drive, unplugged and then plugged the thumb drive back in. The files transferred, then I just deleted the files from my Dropbox folder.
Didn't even mess with my phone.

That is also how I did it myself, those extra stuff was for the guy who was trying to do it with the phone and having trouble too.
I'm recording 100+MB videos and letting that upload. Very easy and quick in two hours i got mine up to 7.5 gigs. I'm wondering how high it's going to go. I'll post back when it stops increasing.

Hello,
How can I activate the free 25GB dropbox account on my One-X?
I've installed the app on my phone and logged on with my dropbox account, but it only shows 2GB...
check your gmail account, the one you used to sign in on your one x phone
you will receive something like this:
Hi,
Thanks for supercharging your HTC device with Dropbox! To get the most out of your Dropbox and claim your extra 23 GB of space, visit our Getting Started guide!
Enjoy,
- The Dropbox Team
note* only 23GB coz we already have the 2GB free previously
Question. Why did you install the app from the market when it should have been pre-installed.
If you did install from the market rather than use the pre-installed version, i suspect you've replaced the One X version which gives the update with the normal version that doesn't.
I would be happy to be wrong though...

guys i have a suggestion, try to enable camera upload for awhile, take some pics and then turn it off again after the pics taken are already synced, it's not a proven solution but you can try and then maybe it will update your storage also
Rycon, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you like using dropbox for additional storage with your phone? Is it integrated with any HTC apps? For instance, is it possible to drop music on the cloud and then stream through the music player? Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I haven't used Dropbox on a phone before.
If you want to store your music on the cloud, Google Music is the way to go. You can store 8,000 tracks for free, and stream/download them whenever you want.
If you are outside the US, you will have difficulties installing it as it is region restricted - but there is a relatively easy workaround to get in, and once you have uploaded one track you can access Google Music no matter where you are

I mainly used it for all my Family's pics and short videos, the good thing about it is it is synced to all your android devices and PCs and you can share any folder to any person/s with dropbox account also(so all of you can view all the pics/videos inside those shared folders). it doesn't matter who uploaded it, the shared folder will be synced to all of your different accounts. And I think it doesn't have filesize limit, which is great(others like Box.net only limts up to 100MB per file). I remembered sharing one .AVI movie on it, it's around 700MB.
Still have no 23GB or 25GB. I've e-mailed dropbox. Maybe they can clear things up.
