The update is absolutely THE single worst and cataclysmic update in Android history. Your grandkids will be asking you about the Dropbox disaster of 2011.
Anyways don't update it:
1. It will delete the Dropbox folder from your sd card,
2. Any files you want to save from the updated version of Dropbox must be "exported"; you have to choose the path every single bloody time,
3. "Favourites", or files available offline, are saved to android/data/data.
An analogy to drive it home: You buy a 2013 Porsche GT3, sight unseen, turns out the 2013 is based on a 1979 Lada chassis and drivetrain.
Haha, Thanks for the warning, I was just about to do my weekly updates too, I think I'll give this one a miss.
I suppose it's like going home with Liz Hurley and finding out she's Herrmann Munster

I wonder how long until they revert back??!!
Your analogy is also 100% valid.
I made the mistake of backing up via Ti BU before I realized how bad the update was. I ended up extracting the old version from a nandroid b/u.
Re: reverting to the old version, judging by the reviews, it shouldn't take long!
I've just got myself 50GB on box.net using the exploit, I think I'm going to leave dropbox, it just keeps going down hill like a turd on a slippery slide.

What a load of BS. No files are deleted whatsoever. They have been moved to Android / data / com.dropbox.android / files / scratch.
So no more dedicated Dropbox subdir in root but finally in /Android. The way it should have been in the first place. Less clutter.
you have to choose the path every single bloody time

Again, false. Let's say you export a file to Dropbox/Test/FCOL. Upload another file? Boom there we are, again in Dropbox/Test/FCOL, nothing to be clicked to get there.
The new update rules. It looks amazing. Finally the possibility to upload multiple files at once (not a whole directory at once though, alas), the image/mp3 preview is nice, etc.
Can't please 'em all I guess. That's fine, just don't spread FUD for nothing please.
No problems here with Dropbox .

600 MB additional free storage
Hi all
Just found a smart way to increase your Dropbox account with 600 MB:
1 Sign into your existing Dropbox account (or create a new account)
2 Goto https://www.dropbox.com/free
3 Follow instructions ... and voila 600 MB additional free storage

Who are you, dropbox sales team leader??!!
FYI, I do enjoy it, but your talking out of your arse.
I can upload/download multiple files with box and 100mb is MORE than enough for me.
I also find box more user friendly than dropbox and with better speeds.
So you enjoy being a dropbox fan boy and climb back under your bridge.
The problem with Box.net is that it doesn't have a free-sync option from the desktop. Desktop sync is for Enterprise/Paid users. Dropbox free quota is totally free by all means.
I didn''t like the update either. It now saves files in
/sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch
which unfortunately is more complicated than
/sdcard/dropbox/
but it's here now and I don't know how to roll back. Also when opening a file with dropbox, does it auto-upload a file when saved? I'm not sure it does anymore...

Gee I wonder what other apps will be going to iOS too?
I don't know why there's an app since the built in functionality is already really good.
After you've read the blog entry you will (or "should") understand.
If you don't, then you don't need the app.
This app nicely proves my point I made long time ago....
Anyway nice thing and probably very functional.

don't know what the big deal about this is either. At least they aren't saying "if u want our services buy our devices " like google is (still no google apps on wp7) and there are many wp7 users who want this, there are also people on android who want easier access to hotmail or windows live messenger and there's nothing wrong with that.

In order for skydrive to be successful it has to be multi-platform. Dropbox is where it is today becuase of the widespread support and api for it.

I'm betting that with Skydrive seeming to be a big part of Windows 8, that Microsoft really doesn't care what device you use, as long as they can get your foot in the door with Skydrive.

Microsoft is late as always. Dropbox and box.net have already given iOS and android users 5-50 gb of storage which isn't tied to a Windows live id. Their apps were out a long time ago.
Microsoft needs to push its platform. WP7 can and will push their services by proxy. XB360 as well, to a lesser extent.

This is pretty sweet. Being both a user of Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone at the same time, it will make it very easy for me to access the photos I've taken with my Windows Phone 7 from my iPhone.
I doubt Apple will be so open with their iCloud?
This is also great for Windows Phone 7 users to be able to share docs with co workers that are using an iPhone.

iCloud and SkyDrive are not the same type of product. It was developed as a storage solution primarily for Mac/iOS users and apps, and not necessarily to be general purpose like SkyDrive and Dropbox. Box.net gave 50gb storage to ios users so most probably took that offer and ran with it. I know I did.
I mean you can't really go in there and browse it like the hard drive the way you can those other products.

I have tested both versions: WP7 and iOS.
The WP7 version is a bad joke:
- I can´t upload or watch videos (possible on iPhone)
- I can´t open word documents or pdf files (download error and offer to try it in the browser ?)
- Only upload of pictures is possible
Edit:
- not even my in the office hub created notes I can open
What I like is that I can delete files or folders and that I can see all shared folders of my friends on one page.
I hope the app will be updated soon...
I don´t understand either why MS allows better skydrive support for iOS than for WP.

Hm.. Not true.
1) I can open and stream videos and music. Pay attention that the codecs you used are supported by WP7.
2) I can open PDF, Excel, Word... No issues here.
The only thing I currently don't know about is the possibility of uploading videos. I just haven't tried it yet. But I believe it's possible as long as they are still in the appropriate section of the pictures hub rather than in the Zune hub.

I have the new client installed, did it yesterday and I have 3 gig total space. When I uploaded your file, it got to the 3 gig limit and said I had used all of my space with out giving anymore.....any ideas??
Dropbox 1.3.12 is what I'm using....thanks in advance.
Drop box will only give the increased space if you upload it via the camera upload feature. So no uploading videos will not work, and also dragging the pictures into the camera upload folder in dropbox will not work also.
Also the new experimental build is 1.3.13
https://www.dropbox.com/help/287
Ok....I still dont get it...sorry. Do I need to move your file over to my phone and then plug it into my PC??
Edit: I got it...move pics to phone start everything and let them upload....I also have the new version...thanks.
Install the latest experimental build. Rename the folder to camera, if you are using your phone save it in your Internal Storage in the DCIM folder.
Then go to Control Panels > Hardware & Sound > Autoplay
Then put your phone into MTP mode by disabe usb debug mode in application development
Set your auto play to use drop box like below
Then plug in your phone again and it should start uploading via the drop box camera upload
Ooo thanks for the dummy files. I had started last night uploading what little pictures I actually had but this is much easier!

FWIW, I just downloaded the experimental build of Dropbox to my computer, downloaded the dummy files in the OP, threw them on a thumb drive, unplugged and then plugged the thumb drive back in. The files transferred, then I just deleted the files from my Dropbox folder.
Didn't even mess with my phone.

Hello,
How can I activate the free 25GB dropbox account on my One-X?
I've installed the app on my phone and logged on with my dropbox account, but it only shows 2GB...
check your gmail account, the one you used to sign in on your one x phone
you will receive something like this:
Hi,
Thanks for supercharging your HTC device with Dropbox! To get the most out of your Dropbox and claim your extra 23 GB of space, visit our Getting Started guide!
Enjoy,

note* only 23GB coz we already have the 2GB free previously
Question. Why did you install the app from the market when it should have been pre-installed.
If you did install from the market rather than use the pre-installed version, i suspect you've replaced the One X version which gives the update with the normal version that doesn't.
I would be happy to be wrong though...

guys i have a suggestion, try to enable camera upload for awhile, take some pics and then turn it off again after the pics taken are already synced, it's not a proven solution but you can try and then maybe it will update your storage also
Rycon, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you like using dropbox for additional storage with your phone? Is it integrated with any HTC apps? For instance, is it possible to drop music on the cloud and then stream through the music player? Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I haven't used Dropbox on a phone before.
If you want to store your music on the cloud, Google Music is the way to go. You can store 8,000 tracks for free, and stream/download them whenever you want.
If you are outside the US, you will have difficulties installing it as it is region restricted - but there is a relatively easy workaround to get in, and once you have uploaded one track you can access Google Music no matter where you are

I mainly used it for all my Family's pics and short videos, the good thing about it is it is synced to all your android devices and PCs and you can share any folder to any person/s with dropbox account also(so all of you can view all the pics/videos inside those shared folders). it doesn't matter who uploaded it, the shared folder will be synced to all of your different accounts. And I think it doesn't have filesize limit, which is great(others like Box.net only limts up to 100MB per file). I remembered sharing one .AVI movie on it, it's around 700MB.
Still have no 23GB or 25GB. I've e-mailed dropbox. Maybe they can clear things up.

OK, I e-mailed a friend with my method so may as well help you all out too.
Please note some aspects may not work any more (e.g. I think you can only get 3gb extra space for picture upload nowadays)
The TL;DR is, do all the DB quests, borrow an .ac.uk or .sch.uk or .edu address from a friend (or use your own), whore Google Adwords ....? profit
UPDATE: Dropbox now gives 500mb per referral, so you no longer need a .ac.uk or .sch e-mail address to get the full amount.
It's also worth mentioning that you get 250mb extra free if you sign up through a referral link. Why not google it and click someone elses Adword? Spread the good karma around!
This guide assumes you have a standard free account with a PUNY 2gb storage.
1: +250mb - https://www.dropbox.com/gs - , although I highly doubt you haven't done this.
2: +1gb - https://www.dropbox.com/dropquest2011 Not sure if this will work but go to page and complete that. It may or may not give you 1gb (it said it was limited time only) - Follow http://smugsmog.com/dropbox-scavenger-hunt-walkthrough/ this guide to make it easier.
3: +768mb - https://www.dropbox.com/free - Self-explanatory. I just did all the bull**** steps then unlinked it from facebook/twitter and deleted the tweet. Still gives you the free data.
4: +16gb!!! - This is the motherlode. I think it works with .sch.uk, anyway. Go here https://www.dropbox.com/edu and put in your .sch.uk address. You need to verify it by clicking the link. If it doesn't work you can still make 8gb for free, or try to find someone with a .ac.uk address (I used <my friends> and it worked fine). Once it's told you you get 500mb per invite, then you need to register an Adwords account at http://adwords.google.co.uk
UPDATE: Step 4 no longer needed, as dropbox provide 500mb free for each referral now anyway
Then you need to load it up with some free credit. I went here: http://www.newsvend.com/google-adwords-voucher.html and used my domain. It says you won't be successful unless you use a @yourdomain e-mail address so be careful.
You may also have free vouchers from web hosting (I did, had £30 with mine).
Anyway, load up your account with the freebie, and don't give it your payment details, that way the adds will run until your voucher runs out, so you won't rack up huge debt.
Once you've got an Adwords account with some free credit go here: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals and get the db.tt referral link that will credit your account (it's at the bottom)
Then set up an ad campaign in Adwords. My ad looked like the attachment, and I had it set to appear anywhere.
Keywords are important. attached is the keywords I used.
Obviously you have to replace my dropbox referral link with yours!
Anyway, once the ad is running, it took about 2 days before all the referrals had been used. That means 16gb free extra storage for life (or 8gb if your .sch.uk address doesn't work).
5: +5gb - This one won't last long so hurry if you want to do it.
http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.exe Windows
http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.dmg Mac
Download one of these betas, then fill a USB stick with 4.5GB of photo/video. Once the beta is installed plug the USB stick and (if on windows) select the autoplay option "add to dropbox". Apparently this doesn't work unless there's a DCIM folder on your SD card. Anyway, basically upload the 4.5gb of files, and Dropbox rewards you with another 5gb.
UPDATE: You now receive 3gb free for uploading files and folders. Just upload a couple of HD episodes of your favourite show, OR make a 3gb zip file and rename it .avi if you're struggling for ideas.
You could do all of this this evening and turn a 2gb account into a 25gb UBER ACCOUNT for free.
Awesome, eh?

I got 25Gb extra when sharing a folder
I got 25Gb extra space when sharing a folder with friends. In fact I have 2 emails and shared a folder with my second email address.
It did say I would get 250Mb, but seems to have bumped my account up by 25Gb after I shared out the folder. Not sure if that's because of the One X deal of if that's the same for everyone.
You can take out the dropquest2011 link as it doesn't work any more. If you've already started it however then you can still finish.

Hey, today my Pixel 3 XL arrived and i moved from iPhone to the Pixel.
I had like 1300 pictures from my iPhone on my computer, then I moved the pictures via FileManager to my Pixel.
And the Pixel automatically created like 300 or more folders with about 2 pictures each in it.
Is there any easy way I get all the pictures out of the folders? I don't need folders in my libary, I just want all pictures side by side and no folders.
I didn't know that Android creates for every App that edits pictures a new folder.
Hope someone can help, I don't wanna drag each pic out of it's folder

Thanks so muuch.
Yeah, over the past few years, the photo app has been really annoying in the way it structures saved photos. Honestly, the best way to do it is find a new photo album app and use that to look up photos. Even when I get a popup asking me if I want to create a new folder for a picture, I say no, and its still in there with new folder. Then every few weeks I go through deleting stupid folders with 1 picture I didnt want.

Yeah its really annoying.
But in my head its like, if I use everything from Google, it works the best and the userexperience is better then thirdparty apps.
It's all from one company.
But thats just me and my thinking.
Can you recommend a thirdparty App?

First let me say welcome (or welcome back) to Android. I don't know how many GB your pics amount too, but I've had good luck zipping a huge amount of pics into a single zip file, transferring it to my phone and then using a quality file manager (solid explorer / root explorer) to extract. Dunno? maybe it will take splitting the 1300/2 or even 3 files but it can be done. When zipping on your Mac/PC just use "no compression", "wrapper", or "minimal". This results in a fast compression because the pics are already compressed. I'm not an apple guy at all but I can tell you zipping 100's of files is no big deal on a PC, nor extracting them into the DCIM folder on your shiny new Pixel. Unlock your bootloader NOW if you are able, because unlocking it later will wipe all your data including any photos not backed up to the cloud (Photos). I also thought there was a way to transfer from Apple cloud to Google Photos, but again I am not an Apple guy at all. (disclaimer: I just have to buy them for my wife and daughter)

Wut? My Photos folder has no subfolders all my photos are in there, bro. And Google Photos rocks on many different levels. YMMV?

You know, I guess it depends on what app I am using when trying to look up a photo. You are correct, when just going directly to the photo album app, all my photos are just laid out. It's when I click the "albums" icon that its a complete mess. Also, pretty much every time I open the app, I get multiple notifications for "new folder found". Most of the time those are singular pictures my security system took. Annoyingly, they are all one photo in each "new" folder. So I have to go in and delete each folder individually.

Still having this issue? I can write a script that should be able to automatically move each file to a new single folder.
Probably only 10 lines of code.
I don't think you need root, just let me know and I can try and throw it together.
