So whats the proceedure from say, Leedroid 4?
Nandroid backup current
Extract boot.img from original rom
Full wipe and nandroid back to stock voda rom
Fastboot flash boot.img
Flash original recovery (where is this?)
Relock bootloader using htc token
boot into stock voda rom, download and apply OTA
unlock bootloader
flash cwm
nandroid restore leedroid 4
sound about right?

All looks good, though I don't know why you'd bother It's been stated many times that 1.28 base roms are NOT reliant on the new hboot. Can flash straight over the top of the previous version.
It also has some risk if you're looking at S-OFF. Obviously focus at the moment is on hboot in 1.26, if you update now you may not be able to S-OFF right away (if/when it happens).
M.
Any idea how to then save this OTA when it gets pushed? not just a nandroid backup

Haha true...at least there's an official acknowledgement of it's existence though! All I get from people I've spoken to at O2 is "there's no news of an update for the HTC One X yet. Apparently the new hboot fixes fastboot and stops all the problems associated with low battery level and not being able to boot to rom/recovery.
This wasn't a problem for me, until 2pm today when all hell broke loose. Now it's worth the hassle - if I hadnt been at home I would;ve been phoneless.....AGGGH!

Paul says that the worst Case Scenario would be that u must use a RUU, nothing about Brick!
i heard that some say that there is a tempered message in the hboot. so maybe there is still a sign for htc that you have modified something

So if this works what can I do? Just use root apps or can I install custom roms as well or do I need an unlocked bootloader for that

True but not everyone has access to RUU's, a lot of suppliers havent put out ones for the 1.28 base so all those who have done an OTA update can no longer use the 1.26 RUU because of the updated HBOOT.

Can anyone tell me if the HBOOT and radio get updated in this update, or is it just the system files that get an uplift?

Anyone know if there's a 1.28 O2 ruu knocking around?

Did you don't keep a back up of stock just in case? That's what I'm doing,
flash stock boot.IMG, flashing stock recovery, then fastboot up cwm restoring stock then upgrading.
Then right back into cwm to back it up.

Thanks but I have tried this RUU and it failed. I have been told this because it wont allow you to install an older RUU then you already have. I really need the 1.29.061.11 or newer RUU because this is what my phone had before I messed it up.
(This is where I read this)
' Note that the RUUs will all function on any of the phones, but the CID locking prevents you from 'debranding' your phone by installing a generic [[#RUU]]. Additionally, the CID-related software also prevents you from installing an older RUU than what you are currently running.'-The android dictionary
hmmmm. Well I started with 1.26.061.5 and was able to install .2

hmm maybe its only the '1.26' or the '1.29' that need to go up. Also would you know if It makes a difference if the bootloader is locked or unlocked when installing a ruu?
I imagine you're supposed to reflash the generic recovery and relock but I'd have to go have a read.
I've been holding off rooting myself in the hope of discovering s-off.
I will just have to wait for the latest orange ruu to be uploaded
I desparately need the 2.17 H3G (Three UK) RUU to restore my HOX from a bootloop. If anyone could help they would be a lifesaver.
You only need the RUU if you want to go back to stock.
If you want to fix your bootloop, you need to fastboot flash the latest recovery, fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot erase cache, and then in recovery clear caches and wipe partitions, flash the ROM.

I bought this one x which comes with locked bootloader, no root,
Stock recovery with s off and super CID(111111). It is prompting an ota update to 1.28.708.10
Is it alright to install the OTA? Will I lose S-off or the super CID? Any harm in flashing
the OTA with S-Off?
No just install it. 1.28 software is very old btw ! Jellybean latest software is already up to 3.14 - 3.20 .....

there are a few places, using official htc software, in china that you can send your HOX to get s-off, some people did, sold their devices and some lucky guy got it, there are of course the preview devices that were sent to sites, magazines and some devs with s-off from HTC, so yes, there are s-off'ed HOXs running in the wild, if I could I would send mine too.
Some phones come back from repair with s-off.....some come out the factory with s-off.....
Just happend to some !
You can also run the 3.14.708 ruu which you can download from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189048
Then you have stock JB software on your phone.
Thanks a lot guys! I am OTAing at the moment, installing the 3.14.708.28 right now, Chinese people have a way to get phones s-off and super CID. Not sure exactly how they do it but I got it like this, it is refurbished though. So basically after unlocking the bootloader, root and a custom recovery I can flash a rom just like old gen phones.. Copy the zip to sd, perform wipes and install zip from sd.. No need to flash the boot.img seperately from fastboot.. Is that true?
Basically its true yes, but.....many rom devs took out the boot.img flash script because not many people have a s-off device.
Do if you hit a bootloop its wise to flash the boot.img manually
Thanks a lot for the information Mr Hofs, really appreciate it!
So all is fine now ?

You do know that my comment is from 2013, yes?
lol
So, if you're S-OFF you can flash the radio separately if I remember correct.
But, despite it being a beautiful phone with a good camera and arguably
the best form factor ever with the three capacitive buttons that can be
swiped for screen on-off and the 2.5D display,
it's a REALLY old phone, and unless you got it for under 70 bucks
it's not worth the money and the time unless you're an enthusiast and you want the experience of owning it.
if you flash a stock RUU I believe you will lose s-off or maybe it won't even flash. Do some research on both HOX and HOX+ forums since they run similar chipset(the + is just factory oveclocked).

I can't remember anymore, it's been 4 years since I last played with the HOX, I believe that all the procedures remain the same since it's an older device and noone bothered to look into it more since it was running a Tegra chip, that made it a difficult device to work with as for example NVIDIA never open sourced the kernel and everything had to be written from zero.
Being S-OFF on the HOX just gives you the luxury of flashing radios separately and engineering bootloaders (I think) and being able to return the phone to untampered for warranty purposes.
I know I'm not a big help but this is the reason I turned to Qualcomm based devices that are easier to get custom kernels and ROMs then.
Also bear in mind that I'd spend dozens of hours researching for that device progressively with the development so I could see the steps on new things one by one, there's probably a megathread with all that info somewhere in here.
EDIT: Why do you need a different region RUU? Do you need to keep it stock? There aren't any updates anymore, if you like the stock look try Android Revolution ROM by mike1986, it's not being developed anymore but it's a great rom with great battery life and all the HTC goodness without anything else bogging it down.
I'd love to get my hands on an S-off hox+ or even a normal one. that feeling it had in your hands was amazing.
