Hello I'm new to android. This is my first smartphone.
I had an ipod touch before , but that wasn't as confusing and complex as android is to jailbrake or install themes. Android overall is a very confusing system. It was very easy to theme and jailbrake my ipod touch.
I have been googling this question for some time and im still confused
My questions are:
How do install android theme?
Do all themes work for all phones?
Do you need a program to install themes (go launcher ex? what is that?)
And lastly are themes made for specific roms/phones.
Thanks.

Themes will be in a cwm flashable zip that you put on your sdcarx and flash in recovery.
Themes are very specific to the phone and rom that you are using. Sometimes I theme designed for one rom can work on another rom but that's certainly not guaranteed. Themes from a different phone will never work.
As I mentioned above, you don't need a specific program to install themes you just need to be rooted, which will install cwm on your phone.
You can find themes in the themes and apps section of this forum.

I just installed this amazing and fast rom :cm7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569895
And installed the Mate theme for ADW, so your saying that i don't need any launcher like ADWlauncher to install a theme? What the difference?
By the way the themes that come in .zip are complete?
Okay there's themes for the whole rom and themes for just the launcher. Themes for the launcher are found in the market and are only compatible with that launcher. Those will only affect your icons and app drawer. Themes for the rom affect your menus, status bar, etc. Now cm7 handles themes a bit differently. Cm7 themes are also found in the market (search for cyanogenmod themes). Once you download and install a theme you want, go to your app drawer and open theme chooser then pick the theme you downloaded and then reboot. No need to use recovery for cm7 themes.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense now
1 more question:
Do the zip themes that you need to flash in recovery don't use extra ram?
Example go launcher or adw launcher run on top of the system, while zip themes patch the system files so there is no extra service running. Is this true?

That is correct. All they do is replace the images with new themed images. No extra services running.

is there any theme chooser apps for galaxy y ? i have installed one from market ...i cant see the application in the menu ?
Specific ther r no , but u can install home launchers like ADW, Golauncher and u can get diff themes for them. I am using ADW its best use it..
i read you almost always created new tread just to ask or some unusefull thing
wish mod warns you
Hi guys , till date I have only used theme chooser themes from which switching to other themes is easy , but Is it the same case for cwm flashable themes also ?
Will I be able to switch to other Cm9/aokp themes from Theme chooser ?
Flashable themes that are still around and being updated...theme the portions that are impossible to theme with the theme chooser.
To get back to your stock rom theme...
You must simply flash the rom again without wiping anything.
Keep in mind:
This will also remove:
A ) System apps that you've installed manually (like myself, I install Cerberus as a system app).
B ) Custom Boot audio.
C ) Your custom Kernel if you've installed one.
Anything in the /system/ directory that you changed.
This will NOT change your settings...apps (except system apps, as mentioned) or anything like that.
Themes from theme changer will still work after...
But the missing parts that theme changer themes (or the parts the theme developer left out) will still remain as the theme you flashed.
Thanx . That means if I flash a theme and I can switch to cm9 themes from theme chooser though some parts will be remain themed as it would become the default system theme ?
Yep.
At least if the flashable theme changed anything that the theme chooser cannot change.
Best method (always) is to select the system theme...and then the new theme.
This will clear out anything that theme chooser can theme.
BUT...to completely clear any them that was flashed, flash the rom.zip again.
So I was wondering how do you change themes. I checked the themes section and a lot of them said I need a theme chooser but I dunno what that is. I am using android me cm10. Links n instructions would be awesome
If your rom has theme chooser, you will see a "Themes" menu in the phone settings.
Download a theme apk, go to the themes menu, select what you want and press "apply". Reboot after changing themes.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
yeah i dont have have a themes menu in phone settings =[
i thought it was built into cm10
what are some roms that have theme chooser, is it possible to flash it into my current rom? i dont want to reflash another rom and set up eeverything again
Ok I have downloaded numerous themes and likes specific things like status bar from one and style from another etc....
My question is,
Is it possible to delete the theme once installed? or do I have to leave all themes installed in ?
Thanks
U need to keep it installed unfortunately.
Also have a look at "Archus" it has some nice options for themes installed from Google play.
I want to install an iOs Theme because I feel it more fluid, but i noticed they all got removed from the Theme store, searching iOS you can't find anything related, not even icons, or how used to be, my iOS themes i had saved are gone, 've tried to install .mtz third party themes through different apps and they work but after a while they disable by themselves and my phone back to default theme and that's super annoying. My phone is rooted so I ask, there is a way to install an iOs Theme with magisk root or something like that. It seems the mtz themes (apply me ones) through themes store app are not fully working or working right. Or it detects them and disable them
How about substratum or hex?
The solution of this is using MIUI Theme Patcher by Kashi, a module for magisk https://github.com/Mods-Center/Miui_Theme_Mod
Thanks to the ones that tried to help me.
