[Q] Xperia Arc, Unlocked Bootloader, Custom Kernel/rom, No 3g/2g data, please help.

Hi everyone,
First my phone:
Xperia Arc
Unlocked Bootloader
Arc-Night kernel (latest release)
Arconium ICS (Latest release)
My Problem:
After flashing the new kernel and installing the new ROM everything worked fine, and on boot I was greeted with the usual SE setup app. I asked it to fetch the internet and mms setting and sure enough they were received and reported as being installed. I checked the APN screen and they are listed and are identical to the ones listed on my carriers website.
However, with WIFI turned off I cannot connected to playstore, internet etc and do not have any kind of data icon/symbol in the status bar.
I have tried:
disabling then enabling data via settings.
enabling then disabling airplane mode
restarting the phone
clearing all data/cache/dalvik then re installing rom
I have checked I have the correct baseband as per Devs recommendations
I have not tried:
yelling at it.
If someone can please suggest any possible solutions or even links to relevant materials.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Haven't tried either the rom or kernel but try booting the stock ics kernel first, or doomlords ics kernel v4, then back to your current one.

OK, just tried as you suggested and installed doomkernel v4 then re-installed arcnight, no luck, still no data connectivity....and I lost wifi. haha.
To be honest, I'm not fussed what kernel/ROM i'm running i'm just exploring my options.
Can you recommend a kernal/rom combo that is known to fully work on the arc?

Flash it like this:
1. Flash DooMKernel
2. Go into recovery
3. Wipe cache + dalvik cache
4. Install Arconium ICS 1.1
5. Reboot and be happy
That's how I did it. I didn't wipe my data and settings...

And your 3g/2g data works fine? I will follow your instructions and get back to you.
I am also considering the apn details could be incorrect on the carriers website as I have experienced the same problem with a few roms now. Every time I follow the devs instructions to the letter and ensure to add any recommended modules and still no data connection. I really wish I had a different sim from another carrier to test this.

I upgraded directly from Arconium 8.1 with correct apns, so I didn't have to download them on ICS

Baseband 70
Stock Kernel with CWM (chose over doomkernel because of the included modules)
arconium ics
Once again all running perfectly excluding data connection. Considering the previous apn settings didn't work, I downloaded the new ones via the setup app and they reported as being installed.
still no data however.
Considering I just executed a complete re-install of everything possible (is there anything else i can flash and replace?) I'm thinking this may be a problem with my carrier/apn settings rather then the ROM/Kernel.
I really appreciate your help so far and if you (or anyone) can think of anything else I can try?

oK, i borrowed a sim card from my sister, who is on a completely different carrier and after setting it up....it had a 3g data connection! so the problem, logically, lies with my carrier and the apn settings.
So handy tip for anyone reading this in the future....if your having conectivity issues, check a different sim card in your phone!

Common Flash Process
1. wipe cache/dalvik
2. wipe system
3. factory reset
4. wipe data
5. TWRP users wipe internal-wipes internal data that could corrupt something
6. flash rom
7. flash gapps
Do this if you have any unexpected problems.
If you want flash ktoonsez kernel but if you have problems follow the flashing procedure before posting about problems/questions
Possible Data Fix
Alright, for anyone having issues with the CM10.1 "pre-release" builds (official or otherwise) not allowing you to keep a connection, here's how to fix it:
Download one of the modem files for your device (read!) in the OP of the modem thread. Any of the options will work, pick the one you want.
Keep that ZIP on your EXTERNAL storage. You need to be able to find it from CWM/TWRP.
With CM10.1 running, disable data from System Settings > "More..." (under Data Usage) > Mobile Networks > "Data enabled" (uncheck it)
Reboot into recovery. (Long-press Power, "Reboot", "Recovery", [OK])
Flash the modem from step 1.
Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Reboot back into CM10.1.
Wait 30 seconds!
Enable data from System Settings > "More..." (under Data Usage) > Mobile Networks > "Data enabled" (check it).
You should have data within 10-20 seconds!
If this doesn't work, you might need to reset your APNs to default. This will only happen if you make changes to your APNs, so go into the APN list and press the menu key and hit "Reset to defaults". Then start over at step 1.
To prevent this problem, you should disable data before shutting off your device. You can enable it 30 seconds after boot and it should work again. If you get stuck in the "disconnect-loop", repeat these steps.

1) Do you mean LTE, HSPA(+), or something else? HSPA(+) doesn't seem to work very well under 4.2 conditions.

The same model of phone (well, more or less) is used for several Canadian carriers, which is why I'm asking.
Just to confirm: are you getting a data connection on something other than LTE? If so, that narrows down the number of things that could be wrong - my two immediate guesses would be that you have the wrong APN set or you have the wrong network type set in either Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks or in the Phone Info menu you can get by dialing *#*#4636#*#* (these are both known to happen immediately after flashing something).

There it goes , that did the trick thanks for the help. Now my GS3 is working perfectly with the update.

Are you getting a 4G logo on your bar? I cannot get anything but 3g,H, and H+. Mobile network setting set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA. any help would be nice, I seem to mainly get H+ and sometime switches to 3G.

I'm going to offer the same suggestions: check your APN settings (that seems to be the big one for AT&T) and check your network types.
I assume you've had LTE coverage under other ROMs?

Everything installs fine,....but the google play store gives me a "no connection" error....but browsing the internet works fine. I followed all the steps exactly.

Are no files displayed at all or is it just displaying differently? Once I updated, it moved all my files to the folder/0. Check there and it should display your folders as on 4.1. I believe it has to do with the multiple user functionality.

Its a preview. Its not supposed to work. The preview I released is basically just a screenshot of what's to come. I haven't even release a full ROM yet.

The emoticons are now implemented in the keyboard, is there a way to flash em over or download em. If anyone else has this issue let me know.

no data connection at all now via the radio.(but the phone can receive & make calls) I followed the steps to check it as posted by another user above....but still tryin different modem files.

CM10.1 on Bell Galaxy SIII
I installed CM10.1 yesterday. Most of it works flawlessly. Had to uninstall and reinstall some apps (Google Play Magazines) for example. But almost all of them work as is.
I do have a problem with cell data connectivity. I need to reboot a couple of time to make it work. When it does, it works flawlessly. But when it doesn't there's nothing you can do. And it's random. You reboot, it may or may not work. If it doesn't, you reboot until it does. I also didn't have H+. I changed my baseband version and I now have H+.
This very much like a limit condition on init sequence. It was working with CM10 so I guess the components initialization sequence changed a bit for CM10.1.

Ya that's what I've been working on. I finally did get it working (for now) with the modem 3rd down on the list.
Does CM10.1 have a LTE icon that appears when LTE is being used, or does it always just say "4G"?

This is getting to be my experience. I just tried a few different modems, and finally got it to work...then I decided to reboot...and it stopped working. A few reboots later, and it still is down for the count. I guess I'll try another modem.

[Q] Data problem on Darthstalker Rom (friend said maybe flash radio?)

Hey!
So I flashed my first ROM on my T-999V and put the Darthstalker 4.1.1 build #8 ROM on it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442) and my problem is my data doesnt seem to be working properly and my friend said maybe there is an incompatibility with the radio for Wind Mobile and the radio on the ROM that is meant for T-Mobile. But just wondering how I can fix this (if possible).
My problem is this:
(Maybe because this ROM is made for T-Mobile phones and I'm on a WIND these problems occur)
1. When I start my phone up (from off) the phone pops-up with the error "com.android.phone has stopped working". This also pops up when I turn off airplane mode. But even though this pops up my phone works perfectly fine
2. As I said above when I turn on data it says its on but data doesnt turn on (no indicator on top right saying its on)
If anyone has a way to solve this problem (flashing a Wind Radio or something?) That would be greatly appreciated because I love the battery life on this ROM.
Or maybe someone can recommend me the best most efficient ROM compatible with WIND (that has cool enhancements like this ROM does)

Go to settings, more settings, mobile networks, then apns.

No phone service

I can not get any radio to work to make or receive calls! I flashed everyone out there and still can not make or receive calls. What method can I use do to get it to work? I flashed radio from TWRP with Factory reset, delvik and cache and then flash with no wipe and I just cant get that or any radio to work. I just get AT&T when I do a scan, which I use T-Mobile. When I choose search in settings in mobile networks, still nothing. When I try to use phone, it always says no network avail. and yes I have data box checked off. It just seams lately any Rom I flash after the newest stock, (JB) I have radio issues, can not make or receive calls. I even erased, wiped everything and started from scratch with stock. Phones works fine, but when I try any ROM, no calls, no matter what radio I flash. I must be doing something wrong. I must say, that I flashed many a Roms before and all worked well until now! I even download same radios in case I got a bad download. I can use kernels, such as Tiberius with Stock JB. I Flash a Rom and no radio, no matter what Rom. My version in stock is UVMC6, SGH T-989 phone. (T-Mobile). I know all phones are different and thought maybe something in stock files I might be able to use, but don't know which files. I am not a dev by any means and thought if I could use the stock I have now can work with the any Rom here. I never dirty flash anything, all Roms work that I flash from sd card, just not able to use phone in any Rom at all! I thought maybe I can manually put in APN, but I have no idea were to get address to enter. I am from Delaware if that matters as far as APN. Verify your APN settings are correct. If there isn't a t mobile APN set up than try creating one. Also go to Settings > About Phone > Status and make sure your phone has a valid IMEI number (anything other than 0)

Thanks, yeah after all reading and troubleshooting it seems APN is where I have to create and/or edit! I found APN settings on Google and wrote down the settings that is on stock Rom where phone is working and will try it. Thanks for heading me in the right direction.

I'm in Canada and had same problem with SlimBean ROM (which is my favourite ROM). I flashed phone back to a stock ROM, flashed DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE, the ROM, and Gapps with TWRP recovery (in that order) and was back in business.

[Q] Can't send sms and greyed bar after cm 10.2

Hello fellow xda members. Well after searching for a solution for my for nearly a week now i figure i should post the question to see if i can get an answer. I did search around before hand and tried many solutions but to no avail.
Background, I have a sgh-t999 that's apparently unlocked since I've been using a fido sim card in it for several months now. when ever I'm running cm 10.1, I have full network access, texts, mms, 3g data, etc.Note: d2mtr is flashed to my phone and my model number gets changed to sch-r530, baseband: t999vvllh2.
After flashing to cm 10.2 RC1. d2mtr. I get stuck on the metroPcs network with out any way to manually switch network operators because the option in mobile networks is greyed out. Everything seems to work fine in terms of calls but besides being able to receive texts messages i can't send them. The signal bar seems to be empty or greyed out yet it still picks up 3g data. I've vigorously checked my apn settings to no avail. deleted the voice+ apk since I'm not in the US being in Canada and i'm all out of options right now. If i restore back to my previous backup ,everything works fine and i did check to see if I loose my imei number after flash.
I previously tried flashing d2tmo to my device but to no avail, assert errors. It would greatly be appreciated to get a response and thank you in advance for any help.
Edit: It's a sgh-t999v as printed behind the battery. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775616 hence the reason why I'm coming from ICS. Looks like I'll have to reflash using ODIN which i was trying to avoid out of fear of bricking but it seems like my only option now.

Might not be the right ROM for your phone. Or it could be buggy. I've messed around with a few and finally found a great one that seems to be working well for me. I have the d2ltetmo. I'm running Liquid Smooth ROM with 4.2.2 and TWRP 2500 recovery. The ROM roots your phone as well. Any questions feel free to ask. Hope I can help!:cyclops:

I wouldn't flash D2MTR Rom to D2TMO. Too many differing things. There's a CM for D2TMO too.

Are you sure that's a t999? The baseband looks like the one for the t999v.. And it also looks like you might be on ICS firmware.. What I suggest you do is check the model number of your phone to be sure what model you have, after that update to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 via Odin but make sure its the firmware for your model. After this flash your custom recovery, and then try flashing cm10.1 for d2tmo.. If your device bootloops after you Odin, enter recovery and do a factory reset.
Edit: check the model number by removing the battery and it will say at the back of the phone.. And the firmwares to flash in odin are in the development thread

Well after a long process of flashing stock jb then finding a proper method of flashing cwm since i had difficulties with fastboot and went with the dd if-of method using the terminal emulator. I am finally on a stable cm 10.2 rom, d2tmo, where everything seems to be working and intact. Thanks for the advice now i have the long process of restoring my apps and data and what not with titanium backup.
