hey guys,
i wrot an small app which looks like the tool from nvidia. (youtube ->NVIDIA Tegra 3 - Fifth Companion Core - Official Presentation )
it shows the actual cpu usage of all 4 cores (without companion core) and the ram usage.
it showes if the companion core or the generic core(s) is(are) active.
let you set the number of used cores.
the app needs root and is tested only on my HTC one x, please comment if it is workin on other devices, like Transformer Prime...
it is based on the nvidia commandline tool tegrastats
i just published it on google play. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.jonaspfeifer.android.tegrastats
it is called "Tegrastats free".
please give it a try and post your feedback and feature requests.
thx
fix for roms, which showd "?" before.
activate in the developer menue on the phone, "root-access" -> "apps and adb"
download the tegrastats file, extract it from the zip, and put it in the android-sdk-xxx/platform-tools folder
open a terminal and navigate to this folder.
Run this code in the terminal:
./adb push tegrastats /sdcard/tegrastats
./adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/tegrastats /system/bin/tegrastats
chmod 755 /system/bin/tegrastats

It has already been made clear that the companion core is handled by the soc itself. Completely invisible to the system so you will not find an api for it

now its published https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.jonaspfeifer.android.tegrastats
OK just found it in the market and installed.
Works as advertised.
But could u make the overlay able to move?
Maybe a widget of some sort.
And yeah here comes the impossible
Show the companion core at work
Very cool app - working great for me. Thanks for sharing

okay. hm.
have you rooted the rom?
Great app, thank you!
I'm amazed to see that the cores are almost never completely utilized at once, even in situations where I think it should be necessary such as some games. It would affect the battery negatively if they would change it I guess but I hope to see a custom kernel soon with better performance profiles.
Hi and thanks. Using LeeDrOid 4.0.0. and everything is fine.
Does, what it suppose to do

Man braucht Root Rechte um die App nutzen zu können
You need root rights to start the app properly
//Tested your app! Quite cool i must say But there are some questions. Why is the 1. core always active? Maybe it is a partial load display for the 5. comp. core? Nvidia most likely has other tools to read the correct and detailed status of the whole tegra SOC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dZsS-C6f2Q&feature=player_embedded (This Videos shows how the Comp. COre is always on and working correct(doing low demanding stuff)).

Why you so sure. There might be either an API or a driver. If nvidia has an app that shows 5 cores as seen on YouTube, so can we. It's a matter of coding.
Looks like a good app, unfortunately I get just '?'s on my One X, TripNDroid CM9 rom.
I've attached a logcat (my first one!!... so let me know if I've done it wrong )

thank you for the feedback.
i think the problem with this rom is, that the command line tool tegrastats from nvidia is not part of this rom.
i gonna check it, and find a solution and post it here again.

It's a great app, works verry well on 1.29.401.11 stock ROM,everytime i double check if i selected 2 cores or 4 cores using this app.
Is there anybody with a alternative download link please? Don't know why but since I installed team pokemon Rom 4 my one x says its a one xl.. I don't know how or where to change that behaviour
Thanks in advance
Edit: reinstalled the Rom and have been able to download it. Thx
So I've had a HOX for about a month now and I was lucky enough to get a defect free device. I got mine from Vodafone and it had a carrier QC sticker on the box making me think they check their own batch before handing them out to customers. Obviously quality control is the first thing HTC should focus on but that is not the subject of this thread.
Overall I'm really pleased with the device but I think there are a couple of simple things that HTC could do to make it great rather than just good. Since a single opinion won't resonate with a large corporation I am hoping that the user base here can come to a consensus that could be used to send a message to HTC.
So this is my personal wishlist, feel free to add your own to the thread and maybe, if the thread gets large enough, we can draw some conclusions and send that to HTC.
Give us an option to disable the 3 button menu item
Make it easier to change brightness in the camera software (give us a slider like the zoom function)
Improve the white balance of the camera. (bright blue skies are often too red and indoor scenes are often too yellow)
Create more quality accessories (give us a tpu battery case that uses the pogo pins)
Let us gain root access and install custom roms without voiding the warranty
Give us a USB Host function (I want to use DSLR controller)
I'd like to see HTC succeed with this device. The concept is great they just need to tweak it a bit so let's send them a message

1. give us s-off
2. release all the sources

- Better battery life

- Root access

All the above, plus;
1. Continuous scrolling of home screens.
2. Choice of app drawer scrolling (vertical, horizontal or paged)
3. Replace 3 dot menu with long (or short) press of recent apps button (selected in settings).
4. Home screens in landscape as well as portrait.
5. A 'stay awake' function when you are looking at the screen (a la S3). It needs to switch off when you put it in your pocket.

The things you suggest like having choices between app drawer settings will only ever happen on custom roms. I haven't seen any stock oem offering the ability to change things like this in such an easy manner...and I always wonder why that is

In fact don't even need a custom ROM. Everything except the menu button fix and stay awake is available in other launchers. I just wish HTC made them available in Sense.

So, if you have only 2 pages on your main screen on the HOX, and use wallpapers like these, you'll see that each word will fit each screen (so, on screen 1 you'll have the word "FAVS", and on the 2nd screen you'll have "HOME").
Is there any way to do this for 3 pages? I wanted a "FAVS", "GAMES" and "HOME" wallpaper, but every way I put it, the words keep overlapping to other pages (for instance, in the middle "GAMES" page, you would see the S from "FAVS").
Thanks in advance.
Guess making 4 isn't an option?

Make it 4, then. How would I do it? Without having the words overlap the other pages, what would the resolution and disposition of the words be?
Is this actually do-able?
You could try to make a widget on every page you need which says "favs" or whatever using uccw.
That way the wallpaper would onmy be a background.

Heh I thought of that just as I refreshed the page to read your comment.
But still, would be nice to be able to do stuff like that in the wallpaper.
For now I'll stick with the widgets then, but if someone actually knows how to do a wallpaper with any number of pages (except 2, that one's easy) that don't overlap each other, please share!

So I just tried that, and that's EXACTLY what I wanted. Thing is, it's laggy when moving between pages.
I've even changed the "Maximum Memory Usage" setting to "Unlimited", to no avail.
Any non-laggy alternatives?

Anwyay, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm stil open.
I love the new feature from new Google-Motorola phone "Moto X". The new "Silent Lockscreen Notification" feature is so neat, nice, useful...
I just love it
Unfortunately I am not a developer, so I don't have the skills to port it to our HOX but, wouldn't it be a great feature to have?
Youtube /watch?v=lbGmfk8yaZU, sorry i am not allowed to post external links as a newbie in XDA
The lockscreen feature is presented at 2 minute 30s mark.
:fingers-crossed:
What do you think? Would you like to see this feature in your Custom ROM?
Cheers

Not totally useless, only a bit more power consuming because the whole display would have to be activated instead only of part of it.
But screen would only glow in intervals (you could slow down the interval) when new notification arrives and when you take it out of pocket or flip it downside up with use of proximity sensor.
Bu yes, i agree, our battery is already a bit week.. :/
Seems pretty neat
Porting it to sense is impossible duo to sense framework work.
How ever its possible to port it to aosp if the necessary sources are out....
IMO its useless because its a battery sucker

there is an app called NoLED from the play store that does something somewhat similar. its not the same thing but it does give you a floating notification on the screen and tells you what app its from.
And yeah, LCD screens will use more power and will prevent the phone from properly sleeping. You can tune it to only turn on the screen if you flip it over.
Or you can use Active Notifications,it's verry verry similar to the Moto X:

Posted without reading the app description. When this app came out it only worked on 4.3 devices but now it works on the One X. Best to use with Low brightness.
Or you can create a Tasker profile that will make your screen pulse every few minutes until you dismiss the notification...

not realy screen is on for a 10 or 15 sec.
this is how it looks like. When you push the icon of the notification you see from it is
The whole screen would light up as black instead of being off like Amoled. I don't think LCD's can take full advantage of this feature
I think notifierpro is the best app for this task. The free lite version works awesome.
All they need is a setting to set a timeout. I use Knock² currently and its set to 30seconds. I use it mainly at work to see if a message is worth grabbing my phone for.

It can, the battery drain is significantly higher than an AMOLED screen.
I'm fine with keeping the extra battery life and having the LED. (Dashclock helps on the lock screen).
The Moto X benefits the most by far from this because of a few reasons.
1.) Contextual low-power processor
2.) AMOLED screen
3.) It doesn't have a notification LED to begin with.
i think it is what you personal perfer or like. I thougt nice app let's share. For those ho want it.
Just had a training for my Samsung care point to maintain my license. And had the same explanation of diferents beteween AMOLED, Super AMOLED and LCD.
I hope to get a re traing for HTC to.
