The great HOX wishlist. - HTC One X

So I've had a HOX for about a month now and I was lucky enough to get a defect free device. I got mine from Vodafone and it had a carrier QC sticker on the box making me think they check their own batch before handing them out to customers. Obviously quality control is the first thing HTC should focus on but that is not the subject of this thread.
Overall I'm really pleased with the device but I think there are a couple of simple things that HTC could do to make it great rather than just good. Since a single opinion won't resonate with a large corporation I am hoping that the user base here can come to a consensus that could be used to send a message to HTC.
So this is my personal wishlist, feel free to add your own to the thread and maybe, if the thread gets large enough, we can draw some conclusions and send that to HTC.
Give us an option to disable the 3 button menu item
Make it easier to change brightness in the camera software (give us a slider like the zoom function)
Improve the white balance of the camera. (bright blue skies are often too red and indoor scenes are often too yellow)
Create more quality accessories (give us a tpu battery case that uses the pogo pins)
Let us gain root access and install custom roms without voiding the warranty
Give us a USB Host function (I want to use DSLR controller)
I'd like to see HTC succeed with this device. The concept is great they just need to tweak it a bit so let's send them a message

my personal wishlist:
1. give us s-off
2. release all the sources

Only want better battery life, I can live with everything else

- Better battery life
- Give us full control over the camera compression (I´ve installed igcamera and the quality is REALLY SUPERIOR)
- Root access
- Easy access to volume profiles (mute, vibrate, etc)

- better battery life
- better multitasking
- a (rooted) Mod to use the volume buttons in the camera app (for zoom in/out or take photo/video)

All the above, plus;
1. Continuous scrolling of home screens.
2. Choice of app drawer scrolling (vertical, horizontal or paged)
3. Replace 3 dot menu with long (or short) press of recent apps button (selected in settings).
4. Home screens in landscape as well as portrait.
5. A 'stay awake' function when you are looking at the screen (a la S3). It needs to switch off when you put it in your pocket.

The things you suggest like having choices between app drawer settings will only ever happen on custom roms. I haven't seen any stock oem offering the ability to change things like this in such an easy manner...and I always wonder why that is

In fact don't even need a custom ROM. Everything except the menu button fix and stay awake is available in other launchers. I just wish HTC made them available in Sense.

[Tips]Desire buttons: undocumented features

Hey, i am going to maintain here a list of all thing which can be pressed and trigger some events in special occasions. I only know about two yet, thats where the community drops in. Post your find here and i will put it in this list.
Reboot
Hold Vol-Down, Trackpad and press Power
Reboots the system! Instant!
Prerequesite: Kernel must be loaded, so does not work the first few seconds after power on.
Warning:This does not unmount your sd-card or unlock any system files. Its basicly the same as removing the battery and should only be used in case your system crashed and does not react anymore. Think of it as a reset button on your PC, which you wouldnt press as long as windows runs fine.
Credits: myself
Bootloader/HBoot
Hold Vol-Down and press Power
Starts the phone and brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be off for this to work
Notes: Navigate through HBoot/Fastboot with vol-up, vol-down and power as select button
Credits: myself
Bootloader during reboot
Hold Vol-Down and wait
Brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be rebooting.
Notes: Make sure to press Vol-Down early enough. Must be pressed in before the boot-splash-image. Navigation, see above.
Credits: myself
Android safe mode
While phone boots, press and hold menu
starts up android in safe mode.only system apps are started, 3rd party apps are ignored
Prerequesite: None
Notes: You have too hold menu for a long time, from power on nearly until sim code dialogue
Depending on the rom you use, there is a small chance, it won't work, or the rom won't start.

Nice, the reboot trick is quite useful.
Thanks,
I know this one but I think it is common for Android. When your phone is off. Push menu button then power. Don't release menu until you see a message on bottom left of the screen. This mode is secure I.e. it loads only software of the ROM without 3rd applications.

By the way that reboot is not graceful. i.e. your sdcard is not properly dismounted and open files are not closed. It is the same as a battery pull, so I would only use if your phone it totally locked up ...

I would agree and would also suggest that the OP put a warning about this in the 1st post. This reboot method should really only be used as a last resort...
One more (probably well known) function is long-pressing the Menu key to bring up the soft keyboard. It used to work even on the homescreen, but it no longer does ever since Froyo. It will works elsewhere though. Really doesn't serve any purpose, though...
warning added. i am a bit surprised, there are not more combinations. seams we got them all now. wouldnt have started this topic, if i knew its only such few things.

Swyped with HTC Desire. Excuse typos.

i just bought a htc one x (sh 26 model) i am facing a very different issue. when i take a picture, the brightness gradually reduces when i view it. then when i close the camera app, brightness returns bak to the original level.. why does the brightness gradually reduces wen viewing a pic which has been JUST TAKEN? any solution.. p.s. i am still on 1.28
When you open your camera app it automatically goes to full brightness, then goes back to how you had it before when you exit the app. That's how it's supposed to be so don't worry your phones not faulty

i have disabled auto sync but still i receieve my facebook notifications, what to do about that? also i am having bad battery life. playing temple run for 5 mins takes up 6 percent at minimum brightness and all other things turned off. this is my first charge cycle
Can anyone please help me a bit please.

Inside Facebook like on newsfeed page, press menue button and there untick Notifications...otherwise you are bombarded, of course depending on the activity of your friends
Now you can leave the Facebook sync active
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
First thing disable the fastbbot option...settings/power I think
Then untick under Sound the three options under Incoming Calls...silent when turning done over ect...and louder ring in pocket...useless options but the sensors will eat up juice...
Then check your sync settings for each account...mail app is great with the smartsync option for different accounts like your gmail and exchange, fb doesn't need more than once an hour, better even more. Weather like every three hours ext....get a battery check app like Battery Monitor App to see how your usage is during the day...and lastly, unlock your HOX via HTC Dev, root it, put CWM on it and flash one of the awesome Sense custom ROMs...amazing develeoping going on there
BTW...the screen is sucking up juice anyways, and with playing intensive games even more...I don't play really so can't help you there...oh and unlocking voids your warranty with HTC...nothing's for free...but it is well worth it!

I would suggest installing the latest ARHD ROM (Android Revolution HD) by Mike. It uses the latest 2.15.401.5 base which is supposed to increase battery life and performance quite significantly.

[Q] SILENT LOCKSCREEN (feature from Moto x)

I love the new feature from new Google-Motorola phone "Moto X". The new "Silent Lockscreen Notification" feature is so neat, nice, useful...
I just love it
Unfortunately I am not a developer, so I don't have the skills to port it to our HOX but, wouldn't it be a great feature to have?
Youtube /watch?v=lbGmfk8yaZU, sorry i am not allowed to post external links as a newbie in XDA
The lockscreen feature is presented at 2 minute 30s mark.
:fingers-crossed:
What do you think? Would you like to see this feature in your Custom ROM?
Cheers

Not totally useless, only a bit more power consuming because the whole display would have to be activated instead only of part of it.
But screen would only glow in intervals (you could slow down the interval) when new notification arrives and when you take it out of pocket or flip it downside up with use of proximity sensor.
Bu yes, i agree, our battery is already a bit week.. :/
Seems pretty neat
Porting it to sense is impossible duo to sense framework work.
How ever its possible to port it to aosp if the necessary sources are out....
IMO its useless because its a battery sucker

there is an app called NoLED from the play store that does something somewhat similar. its not the same thing but it does give you a floating notification on the screen and tells you what app its from.
And yeah, LCD screens will use more power and will prevent the phone from properly sleeping. You can tune it to only turn on the screen if you flip it over.
Or you can use Active Notifications,it's verry verry similar to the Moto X:

It can, the battery drain is significantly higher than an AMOLED screen.
I'm fine with keeping the extra battery life and having the LED. (Dashclock helps on the lock screen).
The Moto X benefits the most by far from this because of a few reasons.
1.) Contextual low-power processor
2.) AMOLED screen
3.) It doesn't have a notification LED to begin with.
i think it is what you personal perfer or like. I thougt nice app let's share. For those ho want it.
Just had a training for my Samsung care point to maintain my license. And had the same explanation of diferents beteween AMOLED, Super AMOLED and LCD.

[REQ] HTC Logo as a button

Is it possible to get one of you talented fellas to port the MOD from the ATT HTC One? I tried flashing the MOD to use the HTC Logo as a sleep/wake/menu but it bricked my phone (perhaps since we are on 4.2.2?), did a restore and that fixed me back up.
Would be nice to have this on our Verizon version

It didn't brick just failed to boot probably because of the kernel flash that was for 4.1

It's not actually under the HTC logo, it's actually located right above it (practically on the screen). It's not built to be a button, it's a part of the touch screen digitizer that just happens to extend beyond the actual screen.

I have used it and it is quite annoying. Honestly, its not worth the extra trouble because the area is so small and is practically on the screen. Most of the time I ended up opening the app drawer. However, roms should include the ability to remap the recents to be one press for menu, hold for recents. That would be 10x more useful than using the htc logo.
