Hey guys, does the defy have a coating on the PCB and stuff inside to protect itself from water or is the only thing preventing water from entering are the port covers? So if the port covers are worn out or missing the phone would no longer be water resistant?
In short: No, it hasn't got any coating...
And it's not only the port covers. There's a watertight sealing around the battery and the speakers are also watertight.
In fact, the former IP67 certification, when it comes to water, covered only 10 minutes (or was it 30?) in a maximum depth of 1m, when the water temperature didn't differ more than 5°C from the temperature of the phone...
I washed my Defy under flowing water a few times and i don't mind using it in heavy rain. But I would never put it under water, as I don't know how much the port covers wear overtime...

Yesterday I tried to change the housing of my defy. After watching some disassembling videos I started. Conclusion: To get the Defy water resistant after the intervention is an illusion. First most of the plastic screw noses were broken. They are really too fragile for a phone which will fit the IP67 standard. For replacing them you have to change the whole front housing. But with changing it you either have to buy a front housing together with the touch screen or you have to replace the touch screen which means you have to glue booth parts (front housing with touch screen) together!
Second the screws are a shame the reusing of them is a gambling game moreover they are setscrews within plastic. Screw heads wear out really fast because to soft material.
In the third place most of the parts are firmly connected with the housing, eg. the LED light, a few seals, some sheet metals, etc. Most of them you have to inherit to the new housing because of the lack within the new housing. With that in mind water resistance is gone, too.
Conclusing: The Motoroly Defy is a disposable device. The repair is too expensive (not even in money) and water resistance isn't guaranteed either. So buying a new phone or a barely used one is far easier than to try a repair of the old one. Too bad, but thats the way of market economy.
the front housing is indeed too expensive to be worth replacing. they replaced mine on warranty after i purposely damaged the touchscreen from the inside without leaving any trace. the rest of the housing is very cheap. about the side screw ears they are indeed too fragile and you may need to reinforce them from the inside by supergluing some paper that acts as fiber and then carefully sandpaper the excess so you can mount it back. you must lubricate the pink rubber seal from the inside with a little silicone oil to make it adhere better to the middle housing. also you have to lube the seal from the back cover to make it regain its elasticity. the lock from the back cover also has to be tighten by pressing with a heated spoon on its solder point. the usb seal usually gets too loose and cannot be fixed without replacing the whole middle housing.
i did all of this to experiment with it but the truth is this is too troublesome for most people and not worth the time or money.
Are You sure that oil used to lubricate the seals will not damage the rubber?
I know that the z1 compact is water resistant (Clear water) but can it resist other liquids like (Cola--Salty water--water mixed with chloride) :what:
yes, when I bought mine a year ago, my first underwater shots were taken in the beach. so salty water is ok. just wash/rinse it with fresh water after soaking it in any liquid other than fresh water. you don't want corrosion in your headphone jack. don't let sea water dry on it. wash it right away.
Hi!
Does anyone knows if one of the following replacement parts needs a special glue to keep water resistance?

Thx
Hey I replaced the back cover, you need do be very careful and place the cover very carefully to obtain waterproof. The adhesive sticker is included I would also prefer to order some sticker as sparepart
Actually, it's not my first time, last time I used super glue gel, but I want to avoid it..
The adhesive sticker that comes with it is strong enough?

I would say , once repaired it is more like water resistant than proof.... I used silicone few times , double sided adhesive ..... There are also precut stickers for this model....just dont forget to degrease....

What do you mean in 'water resistance'? Should I try to take pictures underwater?

I've taken many pictures and even videos underwater. Left phone in rain couple of times. Dunk it in all kinds of liquids. It even survived a year in the army where it was totally wet almost every week.
It's waterproof to me and should be for everyone else if not, warranty replaces for free.
Btw i have replaced the back cover and removed the ASF. Just use even pressure when reapplying back cover and have it under book or even object for longer period. Then check with your mouth for any leaks i.e blowing or sucking and it should not let any air through.
If it still leaks use some silicon based adhesive. That will unfortunately permanently seal it but you get 100% guaranteed watertight.
Enjoy.
Sounds good enough
Thank you!

few days ago I broke the screen of my Z1C, I bought a new one with glue adhesive, does anyone know if doing a good job my Z1C after changing screen will still be resistant to water
I would say that logic dictates if it was water proof before, and you do as you say "a good job" then it should be water proof afterwards.
Today Morning, water fell on My Galaxy Note 10 Plus device, i wiped it with the towel but somehow forget about the S Pen area. In afternoon for writing, i took the
S Pen and found that, the port and S Pen was covered with water fully (so far more than 5 hours, water was inside the S Pen Hole and S Pen). I have wiped S Pen using Tissue Paper and shook the phone (I dont know a better word for this) for taking the water out. Now following is my question:
Im aware that its not advised for Salt Water - https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/what-is/ip68/
1. Is Note 10 Plus - Water Resistant or Water Proof ?
2. Is Note 10 Plus's S Pen is - Water Resistant or Water Proof ?
3. How to drain the water from S Pen Hole ?
4. Even if it works fine for now, will it cause any problem in future ?
5. I currently dont have a Tempered Glass, using the scratch card provided by the Phone while purchasing. There are lots of scratch in the scratch guard now. If using S Pen, will it damage the S Pen Tip and its sensitivity ?
I also created this thread for more reference for others in future.
the phone is ok and waterproof. but I don't sure s-pen. Youtuber says s-pen is waterproof. You can contact Samsung.
The S-pen is fully waterproof, you can even use it to tap and write things on your phone while both are submerged
1. Is Note 10 Plus - Water Resistant or Water Proof ? As per the link you posted it is IP68 - Very much water resistant
2. Is Note 10 Plus's S Pen is - Water Resistant or Water Proof ? S Pen is Water resistant. Anything with openings for things like buttons will be water resistant - https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001521/
3. How to drain the water from S Pen Hole ? I would blow out the water with tube from the top and then just let it air dry, it is completely sealed afaik
4. Even if it works fine for now, will it cause any problem in future ? Very unlikely imo
5. I currently dont have a Tempered Glass, using the scratch card provided by the Phone while purchasing. There are lots of scratch in the scratch guard now. If using S Pen, will it damage the S Pen Tip and its sensitivity ? - The stock plastic film was nothing more than that, it felt like packaging to me so I took it off immediately. It being scratched probably won't damage the tip, it is pretty hard plastic and you should have spares anyway.
I use canned air, and if it still seems moist, get the rice out...
