[Q] About that touchscreen bug... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

...that has been haunting me for months now. I've read all the articles I could find out there. Ive tested 402, 403 and now 404 ics and tve bug is still here.. I always end up finding articles saying that I need to torn off my screen then on.. this works for a while then it comes back.. right now im running gummynex 1.0.1 based on 4.0.4 with franco kernel. I'm still getting this unbelievable annoying bug...
Does anybody know about an upcoming fix? If no, is there Any ways to fix this??

I have it on my Nexus too. Little annoying when you can't properly play games that require touching that portion of the screen. Only seems to affect the phone when it's horizontal.

Me too when playing golden eye with 64 emulator, I can't side step very annoying, if anyone has an answer to this I'd love to know

I tried it and it looks like I don't have this issue at all.

Guys, google galaxy nexus touch screen bug. If you do extensive testing you will notice this. It only happens in landscape mode. Check the youtube clip. I really want this to be fixed so bad!!!!

Is this a software or hardware issue?
And no, I cannot seem to replicate this issue no matter what I do.

The only time it lost my finger's position was when I removed said finger from the screen. ^^

Never had this issue ever since I moved from 4.0.2, and now i'm on 4.0.4. Lastest CM9 nightly build. No multi-touch issue and I do play games that require them.

Lol that's my video
Guys this bug is fixed in 4.0.4, or at least AOKP. I haven't had it since AOKP build 29.
I have been waiting until 4.0.4 became a Verizon OTA update, to update my video that it's fixed.
I have played a bunch of Shadowgun and Pew Pew and never saw this again. I'm confident it's fixed.

Maybe it is indeed fixed in 4.0.4 as I can't remember seeing it in some time.
(AOKP as well).
I had it I think a total of two times...
But for me turning the screen off only provided relief for 10-15 seconds.
I had to reboot.
I had actually forgotten about the bug...
And tried to replicate again with three multi-touch games back-to-back and two multi-touch testing apps back to back...
No problems.

Lucker! Im still having this with gummynex 4.0.4, franco and glados tested... :/

People are raving about 4.0.3 but where is it?

I don't want to flash a custom rom but all this talk about the vast improvements in 4.0.3 are making me wonder what the hold up is in rolling it out to Galaxy Nexus owners. At least GSM owners like myself, there aren't any carrier approvals required for that.

Not really sure what the hold up is. I too want the pure stock version of 4.0.3, don't like a lot of customizations are whatnot. Hopefully it will come soon.
I have used Bugless Beast, which is pretty much AOSP with very minor changes and fixes.
I held out for about two weeks lol.
Finally caved, I flashed AOKP and Franco's Kernel. Been loving it ever since I'll never go back to stock.

My guess is 4.0.3 won't be released and google will push out 4.0.4 w the multi touch bug fixed.
There's also a browser crash bug w 4.0.3 that I hope google fixes as well.

When they have sorted out the bugs with the battery life then I think 4.0.3 will be released.

Lucky. My stock GN browser is buggy as all get out. A crash once a day? Switched to Dolphin solved the problem.

If they can improve battery life by at least 25% then I'll be happy.
What other improvement are we to expect with 4.0.3 / 4.0.4?

Nothing wrong with the battery life on the LTE version, you just have to turn off LTE
But then you get not so fast speeds. Verizon 3g maxes out around 3mbps. But most don't see even that. Though I do have to say Verizon 3g handles congestion better.

Are u on 4.0.3? Only happens w that version.
I've been hesitant to root, because the rooting process gives me a panic attack and I don't want to have to re-do it after a push to 4.0.3 happens. I take it there's no assumption yet as to when a push upgrade is due to happen?
I'm hesitant mainly because I'd have to wipe and because Google Wallet is working perfectly right now and I don't want to mess with it.

I had perfectly working google wallet also on 4.0.2 stock and thought I will just wait out till Google releases official 4.0.3. But then I got tired n flashed aokp.n believe me, it's like my phone is freaking fast .if you thought that 4.0.2 is smooth seriously you gotta try 4.0.3.its mind numbing. Plus Franco's kernel.
PS-i like all the customizations of aokp...except the bootanination.n wallet works.

4.1.1 feel a lot smoother than 4.1...

Just got the 4.1.1 OTA and I gotta say, they made a lot of improvements from 4.1, (IO preview edition) and 4.1 wasn't bad at all! The biggest thing I noticed right away was a smoother notification bar. It just kept higher frame rate and such. I also noticed the stock launcher to be smoother overall (but especially in app drawer). I am very impressed with this small update. I first thought that it was just a small bug fix, but it's much more than that! I am running takju (had yakjuux but flashed to takju).
What kind of improvements did you guys see after the small update???

Does it? I didn't notice that prob cuz I use chrome
I feel exactly the opposite.
4.1 was a lot smoother for me than 4.1.1. There are certain lags and stutters that were not there before, at least for me.
Tried several different ROMs, official OTA, dirty installs, fresh ones...I'm actually starting to believe that the real thing lagging is my brain.
Think I'll just let it go for a while before I go nuts on this, and enjoy the phone a little bit.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I honestly can't see a difference in smoothness. The screen is still glass and dirt still makes it harder to scroll around.
I'll apply some butter to it in the morning, but I'm afraid that will mess it up.
No really, movement between apps seems better, but scrolling seems unchanged.
The 4.1.1 update has helped my battery life.
Been going 12 hours since updating this morning and I have left 3g on all day. Still at about the 50-60% mark
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
There is no difference in smoothness between 4.1 and 4.1.1. It's a placebo and you also have different experiences based on the amount of apps you have running and based on what you are doing.
Does "project butter" apply only to the stock launcher? I'm using Nova and it feels smoother than before but still get the occasional stutter, specially when using live wallpapers.

I have heard from friends that 4.1 was actually a tad smoother. Can't comment since I got my nexus the day the OTA rolled out
and never used 4.1. I wonder what the next 4.1.x versions will bring.
I'm actually curious after uprgrading from 4.1 to 4.1.1 the Google search voice command I guess called Google Now, takes a little while to start up it say "Initializing" almost everytime I start it up. When I would use it before in 4.1 it wouldn't even say "Initializing" it would go straight and allow me to speak.
I'm guessing maybe because more people are using it, and that causes more lag, just wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

Lags

Hey. After I flash a new rom, the phone is super quick and respones very well. Buy after a few days, it starts to get laggy. When I am presaing the soft keys it takes a couple of seconds to respond, apps loading times can reach about 20 seconds, contacts loading too. I am using the GSM Gnex with CNA 3.8 rom and franco kernel r298. The lags occurred with XenonHD too. Dont get me wrong, I am not complaining about the developers, I am just trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong.

I remember someone saying it has to do with the zram optimizations in roms and kernels. at first it makes things faster and the the idea implemented is good in theory but over time it makes things unbearably slow. i dont know the technical reasons for this, someone with more knowledge than me may be able to explain it.

Obviously downloading from the Play Store is using system resources (RAM, a % of the processor etc.) so a slow down is to be expected.
The phone restarting itself =/= to rebooting it regularly. Just like your computer you shouldn't leave it running 24/7. Sometimes you just need to give your phone a restart.
I think the lags are related to the heatcof the Gnex. Maybe the my cheap case makes it worse. I will check without case so it have more contact with the air. I will report the results.

It looks almost like a memory leak. (That was a big problem on exynos devices runing cm10). It happened to me today (latest nightly cm10), Once my free ram was less than 100 mb the phone became noticeably less responsive.

Yup u are right. Many people used to tell that Franco kernel is the best and stuff but even that after using for a few days gets slow whereas in stock all that crap doesn't happen. I still use Franco because games work smoother on it compared to stock. Even the battery life is inconsistent. Just try stock after weeks and Franco right after a reboot still stock will be overall faster and smoother.

Phantom touches. Never had them before

My 16GB flo was working fine from the beginning. Always kept it up to date with android releases. Never had an issue. Just today while swyping noticed some weird behavior. So, I tested with a multi touch tester. There were some fake touches recorded. It didn't even allow me to reboot. Later with some effort I managed though. After reboot, it works fine. I'm scared cause I bought that in US and I doubt the so called international warranty will be honored in India.Has this occurred to anyone else? What shall I do if it happens again? Is there some fix for this?

If an RMA is not an option, try Abel's solution. It boils down to bad hardware and no quality control. I had to RMA my first one for the exact same reason. Second one is fine.
If you do some googling, you will see that thousands of people have had this problem. Any definitive word from Google or Asus? You wish. They will never admit they made a mistake.

Had this issue start yesterday. Running Sinless 3.2.2 on stock kernel. I've noticed it only start since installing Xposed but that could be coincidence. Reboot fixed it but woke up to it again today...

The one I had (before I sent it back to Google), would only do it after it had been started for a while. Reboot would make it go away for a while, but it always came back.
Not related to Xposed.
