[Q] huge problem with HTC Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have huge problem with my GF's HTC Desire, phone is 1 year old and today when she got back from University, she tried to turn the phone on its stuck on HBOOT screen (see pic).
I was trying to do everything but nothing works. I have restarted phone like 100+ times, by pulling battery out of device.
I have been searching this forum, googling and doing w/e I can think of to find solution to this problem.
The phone never been rooted, is S-ON.
All is on the pic.
While I'm on this screen nothing works - cant move by using volume buttons or do something by using power button. When I connect him to USB device shows that it is connected.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Sounds like water damage.
Try booting into fastboot by pressing BACK and POWER. Then running a RUU for your network provider (shipper-roms.com). If you can't find one, make a goldcard (google tutorials), and download the latest WWE RUU. You can make the goldcard using ANY phone, it does not matter.
EDIT: boot into fastboot mode with way previously stated, plug into USB and run this http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157560_signed.zip
If the phone isn't recognised, try installing HTC Sync, then re-trying the RUU.

Sorry for late answer,
I have checked what you wrote, and it didn't work.
Looks like only POWER button is working, nothing more.
When I press BACK and POWER it still shows same screen as I posted before.
About 'water problem' yes phone got a bite wet today, but it was a couple drops on the back.

In that screen select fastboot by pressing Power button. You can navigate with volume button.

Like I wrote in first post.
Nothing is working when I start phone I can't do anything, can't navigate, can't select anything.

I would send it back to htc or at least the store it came from!

[Q] Broken Bootloader

Hi, I think my phone just broke.
It's a HTC Desire Z.
Today I tried flshing a new radio image, but it didn't work , got the write failed message, from within phone os (virtuous froyo 1.0.2)
Got hboot 0.85.xxxx.
This was at work and since I had no compatible USB cable I thought I'd wait until I got home.
Well at home i selected boot to bootloader from holding the power button, the phone shutdown and that's it.
Now only lifesigns are the orange charge led.
When pulling the battery and inserting it, connectiong the usb cable the light comes on, pulling the cable it turns of.
When cable connected and pressing vol down + power, nothing happens, pulling the cable leaves the charge light still on.
Trying vol down + power without the cable does aboslutely nothing.
Do, does anyone have any clue what I can do ?
The phone worked flawlessly until the reboot point.
Iknow the first desire had some special key combination to get into some blue-led mode, haven't found anything on this so far.
it does not show up in devices in computer management either.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I found the vol up + power it shows up as Qualomm CDMA Technologies MSM in device management.

There must be a way to recover this type of brick, to dd a new hboot image.
Lets face it, the hboot image was flashed to a brand new HW at some point, the Q will therefor be, how do they do it, and how can we all do it?
Research continues.....
Ok, does anyone know how to fix a broken bootloader on the Desire Z ?
I figured out that the bootloader is broken, this because I mixed up radio and hboot image yesterday and tried to write the radio image to hboot partition, this is why I got a message telling me write error because of space issues.
Now I have my old Desire Bravo, wich is working better than all desire bravos here at work
But I want my Z back in bizniz.

have you got insurance??
u could drop it down the stairs at your workplace... claim on insurance... make sure its truely broke though...
just a stupid thought
if warrenty wont replace then insurance most probabally will... if its so broken you cant even turn it on to get the led. lol
either way mate i really hope you get it sorted soon best of luck!
You have brick your phone. bootloader is broken no fix for it. Sorry.
If you do not have warranty call htc Norway and say that you try to update your Software WITH HTC SYNC. They are very customer friendly there.

I've been talking to mcare and deltaservice, they seems to be unable to help me since the bootloader is broken, I know this issue can be worked out with JTAG on the old desire, just have to wait for JTAG update on the Z, then I'll be up and running again, btw, I'm getting a new phone AND got to keep the old one
Ohhh, yeah.
BOYAAAAHHH!
I still wonder what the volume up + power key combo is good for.
When the phone is started in this mode, it shows, as mentioned earlier, as a Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM device in device manager on my puter, diagnostics mode ? possible way to get write access to internal memory, like say.... /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 so we can repair the bootloader without any advanced tear down of the phone and fancy equipment ?
If ANYONE have a clue on this feel free to share it with everyone else that has a Desire z/Vision. Thank you.
btw, took some high res pics here:

Root of HTC desire HD failed

Hi all,
My phone is a complete mess. I tried to root my HTC desire HD with the Ace Advanced Kit. After this was done successfully, I tried to get into the boot menu
by holding the vol-down button and the power button. What happens is, that
the screen remains black, but the battery indicator starts to flash, nothing else
is happening.
After removing the battery, I try to start the mobile in a normal way, ie., by pushing the power button. What happens is that only the HTC start screen is
shown for minute, no Android is booted.
I am a bit struggeling now, because there is also no way to connect now the
Ace Advanced Hack Kit as the USB debugging unit is not enabled.
Anyone an idea how I could sort this out?
Many thanks!

Issues with booting (blinking orange LED)

Hi there,
I'm having strange issues with DHD. I've read a few threads with issues like this, but symptoms are always slightly different.
Yesterday, I've connected it to the charger (the battery was empty), and when I tried to turn it on, it just did 3 vibrations and orange notif. LED started blinking. When connected to the USB, the Windows recognizes device as Qualcomm, and further reading suggested that the phone is entering service mode, which is normally accessible with Power + Vol+. I've also found out that volume rocker can be the issue, but in my case I don't see anything wrong with it, it's working and looking like before.
No matter what I did, it always did the same, it won't even go into recovery (Power + Vol-), screen always stays blank, the only activity I'm getting are flashing LEDs and vibrations.
Also, phone is charging when turned off (battery removed and reinserted). I've charged it for a few hours yesterday and the green LED was on.
And finally, when turned off, and plugged into the USB, after few seconds, adb devices will show the device, and after the serial number it says recovery. Does that mean that the phone booted into the recovery? The screen is still black though.
So, the most important thing for me is to find out is it possible to return the phone back to stock, in order to send it for a repair. And even better, a solution for the problem
I believe its a hardware problem, although adb says its in recovery. Any more ibfo you could give us? ROM, how you rooted it etc?
Sent from another dimension...
thanks don't hurt ya know?
Take off battery, connect phone to charger via USB for 3 minutes ,than insert battery put battery cover now u should see orange light ,now press power button and voila
It's an issue with the volume rocker I think
Had a very similar issue when I had IceColdSandwich on my DHD, only started when I flashed that Rom, reflashed a different Rom, everything is fine again!

I'm not sure that the issue is with ROM, I'm starting to think that it's probably a hardware issue. And that's why I need to found out how to return everything to stock, and send it for warranty.
Try again it will work .may be leave it longer after you put the battery in like an hour .it should work after an hour press the power button

Thankyou so much after leaving phone in cupboard for like 5 years and forgot why it was on there I decided to plug it up. Then I remembered it wouldn't turn on and I was getting the orange blinking. After following your instructions it's all on again. Have upgraded since then so I guess this is a back up phone now lol

HTC Wildfire blank screen

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has already been answered I just can't find it.
My Wildfire's screen froze a couple of times, then the last time I removed the battery and reinserted it.
When I tried to power back up I got the vibrate but nothing on the screen, so I repeated a couple of times with no luck.
I then tried the Hboot method (Hold vol - and power) and I got the Hboot on, but when I tried to navigate using the volume buttons nothing happened, so removed battery and tried to repeat, I couldn't get back to Hboot. I have only been able to get the Hboot screen that one time.
When I power up, I get 1 vibrate and nothing on screen.
When I hold volume + and power button, I get three vibrates and the green light comes on.
When I hold volume - and power I don't get any vibrates, unless I remove the volume - then the power button but still only one vibrate.
I've tried installing the CyanogenMod but no luck.
Is there anything that can be done to save my Wildfire?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Seems like you're in Qualcomm Diagnostic mode. Though I don't remember the solution, some Googling might help

--- EDIT ---
So you wrote your question again in the "Wildfire S" (Marvel) Forums - in this case the much more important question would be: what phone are you talking about? A Wildfire (Buzz) or a "Wildfire S" (Marvel). Despite the name those have almost nothing in common - they are totally different devices
--- EDIT ---
I'll answer in this thread although you opened another one in Q&A.
You haven't been too specific with your problem but sometimes it helps to have all the details
So here we go:
a) did the phone work correct (besides the freezes) before you took out the battery?
b) is your WF rooted & s-off?
c) which ROM?
d)
When I hold volume + and power button, I get three vibrates and the green light comes on

does this happen when connected to PC or charger or not
e)
When I hold volume - and power I don't get any vibrates, unless I remove the volume

OK, sorry for the lack of info!
My phone is a Wildfire, not a WildfireS.
A: Yes, was working.
B: No, never needed to.
C: Not sure, never kept a record of it. It's one of the first models though if that helps.
D: This happens without USB cord attached. When the USB cord is attached I pull the battery and the green light stays on.
E: Yes, I've tried this for over 10secs before.
F: Yes, after blank screen. I installed on SD card and followed the directions. Bare in mind, I cant set Debug or the charge only setting.
Thanks!

That's what I thought. In this case you won't be able to flash any other ROM - you could just do the usual upgrades by HTC
This doesn't sound to me to be a minor problem (but probably someone else might correct me here) - nevertheless - just to make sure: have you tried to do a hard factory reset following the HTC user guide?
- With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button (instead of holding it)
if this boots your phone up:
- Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
- Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
- Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset
(errm and yes: this will delete all your user data, of course...)
Click to collapse
But I assume you have done that anyway - did you try to connect your phone to the PC (HTC drivers installed, of course)?
How about charging - does the phone seem to behave normal - i.e. if you keep it from charging for a few hrs does it show the red LED for charging mode and the green one for being fully charged?
That's pretty much all I could suggest from scratch. - Hopefully someone else with a good idea will step in here :fingers-crossed:
OK, still have the Wildfire with the annoying blank screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?
Thanks!

besides the suggestion of the Qualcomm diagnostic mode (no I don't know anything about that): did you try to power up without the sdcard, yet?
Furthermore I slightly remember that you could do a factory reset using a key combination - but I'm not sure about it.
Same goes for a RUU. Are you able to connect to the phone with the PC?
Really just random guessing - hard if no error messages appear...
Yes, tried with the SD card.
Because I can't see the screen I tried it loads of times, all with different combinations.
I can't get any vibrate from volume down + long hold power.
I will only get a vibrate from volume down + short hold power.
What would be ideal if there's a way to use ODIN PC to flash a new ROM, well that's what I think it is, faulty ROM?
Thanks!

really hard to say as there's not a little information what's going on. What if just the screen is dead? have you tried to wait after boot and insert your pin after a while (I mean try to guess where the numbers might be) and call your number?
Why anyone want's to use ODIN on non-samsung?!
ODIN is purely just for SAMSUNG products
If you have warranty.. put it to service centre.. they will fix it
Need hard reset power off your phone press volume DOWN and power. YOU WILL FIX IT EASYLI.

Hey there!
I'm bumping this because I have the same problem and creating a new thread seemed more bad to me.
Anyway, I'll start from the beginning.
I found out my battery was swollen 5 days ago. It's probably because of my charging habits. My battery life have shortened everyday this 5 days. Yesterday morning I wiped my battery stats to get a better battery life. When I was back home my phone's battery has depleted while I was listening to music.
I came to home, plugged my phone to charge and waited 15 mins to get it charged a bit to open. When I tried to open it, it vibrated but the "green htc text on white background" screen didn't come up. The screen wasn't working. I tried what is said before in this tried. Once I got managed to see the bootloader but the volume keys weren't working (as above) After some moments of rage, my brother offered to test the touch, I opened the phone, (as I dont have a PIN) we waited for some minutes and then he called me. I mimiced the answering gestured and boom, I could talk with my brother.
I bought a new screen as I think screen is broken. But it could be because mainboards screen part is damaged (probably because of my faulty battery, voltage wavings etc.) or something completely different.
Please guys help me. I can't buy a new phone atm so I have to fix this

Ouch sounds like a rough one :/ OK so you have no visual, but do have touch and audio? Are you s-off or s-on? You could try to "blind feed" the rom.zip of a ruu to the bootloader to try restore it. But it may well be that your battery has killed the screen. Have you ordered a new battery?

I too think that it was the battery that killed the screen. Ordered both a screen and a battery but they won't be coming before 20 days at least. Damn you China, why you have to be that far.

[Q] Working on bringing a Desire back to life!

Hi people,
Been a while since ive been in the desire forums and Im a bit out of touch with all things desire.
My situation is ive come across a desire that someone gave to me an said if I can fix it I can have it! Bonus.
Problem is in all my desire days ive never come across this (there are a few related tales on the internet but they mostly deal with S-ON devices).
So the phone wont boot, when you try to it just goes into the Hboot screen, even without pressing volume down?
once in the Hboot screen the phone is totally unresponsive? Volume rocker wont let me select options even the power button fails, to turn it off you have to battery pull.
The info on the Hboot screen is;
Alpharev N1 table
Bravo PVT4 Ship S-OFF
HBOOT- 6.93.1002
Radio- 5.11.05.14
I knew it was S-OFF already because I did it for the guy thats passed it to me know.
My First idea to get this working was to get a new alpharev hboot on there and see if it helped. Nope. Putting the PB99IMG on the sd card causes the phone to freeze on "parsing zip" "Bootloader 1" Left it alone to make sure it wasnt me being hastey but nope it didnt work.
Next I thought right lets get the Stock table on it and run a RUU. I would manually push the hboot via abd/fastboot. Nope. Because the phone wont boot into fastboot (using the back and power button combo) it still boots into Hboot!? So I tried to put it into Fastboot from ADB. Nope, ADB cant see it. A note on this is that I was a very proud owner of a desire and had set up adb for it ages ago. So why wasnt it seeing this one? I am 95% certain that he had usb debugging on on the phone. But when I plugged this one into my PC it couldnt install the driver for "Android 1"? WTF thats a galaxy nexus driver isnt it? anyways, found one and thats all installed so I know I have no missing drivers. The phone knows its plugged in because the Hboot changes to HBOOT USB PLUG.
Ive tried android flasher to send the Hboot and it just hangs at the "please wait while your device is flashed" point.
Does anyone else out there have any more ideas or is this desire a write off? In my past experiance these things were damn hard to totally brick?
Any ideas welcome. Many thanks in advance.
How did he get to this in the first place? was he trying to flash a ROM? or a hboot?

Nope said he was just using the phone as per usual then the next time he pulled it out of his pocket it was on the Hboot screen?
He isnt android literate so he doesnt mess about with it, he brings it to me for that kind of stuff.
In bootloader, can u choose recovery and boot into it?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Nope. Absolutly unresponsive volume rocker. Cant select anything from hboot menu. And even the power button is unresponsive, you have to battery pull to turn it off.
Another note to this saga: Ive tried an RUU but it dosent detect the phones plugged in.
Ive tried the freezer trick then RUU, that didnt work.
And now im even drying it out in rice just in case there is any moisture in the body.

Nope. Absolutly unresponsive volume rocker. Cant select anything from hboot menu. And even the power button is unresponsive, you have to battery pull to turn it off.

think you should first rule out the simplest problems: electrical contacts inside the switches.
I had problems with the volume rocker due to dust collecting so you might want to press harder or clean it. I've done this more than once. At least you be sure there is not a mechanical problem (eg. a switch not working or a latched switch preventing the phone from registering the other buttons.).

So. Had it in bits. Cleaned the terminal points between all buttons and made sure no sticking was present.
One final last plea to anyone who has any better ideas on how to fix this.
Thanks to everyone thats made a contribution.
Will a jaff box/jtag box fix these problems? Got a man that can standing by......
