Sorry for my bad english.

dont need to unlock bootloader if u want root only.. but once u unlock your bootloader, u have to root again or flash the rom that support autoroot..

Well what order is everything done in? For instance, my R800i is 2.3.3. Do I unlock the bootloader (how?) then upgrade the FW to 2.3.4 and then root?
Is that correct?

Try this

Need help with downgrading firmware and rooting

I have unlocked my bootloader . My firmware is .62 as rolled out by SE.
I want to root. Apparently I need to downgrade to 42/ 58 and then root .
As regards this these are my questions :
1. I like my phone as it is and would like to take a backup of it AS IS in case I need to restore it later - in case I brick or mess up in some other way. If this is possible how to achieve it?
2. Even when I downgrade - I don't want to use some third party firmware - I'd like to downgrade the the original SE 42/58 firmware. Is this possible? If so , what's the process?
Apologies if the answer is already distributed all over this forum - I could not find a satisfactory answer while searching.
1. Using backup in recovery and in case of bricked, you could enter to recovery for restoring
2. It's impossible for sure

try flashing any one of these kernels..it should automatically root your firmware with built-in like CWM

Downgrading and rooting
Hey AndrewSimoes,
I own an Xperia Arc LT15i.
I had the same questions as yours. I had got .62 and then wanted to root and found out that its not possible yet. I didn't have a unlocked bootloader.
So, I downloaded Generic Global firmware(.42) and flashed it using flashtool 0.6.7.0.
And then I rooted my phone. It works like a charm.
Now, don't worry about ur phone getting bricked. Just follow the instructions on using flashtool and you can do it.
After doing it, download Xperia CWM Auto-Installer app from the android market.
Open the app, and install Clockwork Mod recovery. Then, reboot the phone in recovery mode by pressing BACK button on ur phone while the phone boots.
Go to Back up and restore(using volume keys) and do a NANDROID BACKUP. It would make an exact copy of whatever you have on your mob.(including apps, apn, user settings..).
Once you are done, go to your SD card and you ll find the backup under
/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup..
Thats it...Now u have ur phone rooted, backed up completely.
But if u wanna do this before rooting, its not possible i guess.
But I assure you that flashtool works simply great. When u can take so much risk in losing your DRM keys by unlocking the bootloader, i think rooting shouldn't be a problem.
Lemme know if u need the links to download .42/.58 firmware.

Thing is as of now I like the Sony interface. It's quite slick. But I'd like to remove the bloatware. So is there a way I could preserve the Sony interface ?
Sent from my LT15a using XDA App
Very much !
Downgrading to .42 would not delete anything from your stock ROM or any of your apps. So go ahead and download flashtool as i said and just flash to .42 firmware.
Then u can root using the same tool.
And even this would not affect your apps. I have tried it.
Once ur phone boots after its rooted, you would see the app SUPERUSER and that is an indication that your phone is rooted.
To remove bloatware:
Download ROOT EXPLORER or ES FILE MANAGER(MY PREF.) and go to your root folder.
Go into "system/app" with any one of the above apps. Now you can delete the junk apps one by one or multi-select them. To have a backup of the apps, I'd suggest you to move them to the sd card. It's good to make a folder called "Junk Apps - name of the firmware" on your sd card.
Now select the apps, press move and go to the sd card and to the folder "Junk Apps - name of the firmware" and press paste. Done.
If you don't knw what to remove, here's a good list but some new apps that can be removed. Check the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1089470
Hope this helps.
Thanks man.
I'm going to use flashtool.
One more thing : Which one is more recommended : 42 or 58?
More people use .42, so I'd say .42

Hey AndrewSimoes,
People have answered it.
.42 is better. not much of a difference compared to .58.
so go for it...and when ICS comes, upgrade via PC COMPANION and then root it
So I've downgraded and rooted and unbloated
Now the next thing I'm greedy for is to exploit the root access and take some good anti theft measures.
Ideally I'd like some application which gets installed to ROM so that no thief can wipe it out even if they flash a new firmware/ delete any number of files
hey thats cool man....explore with ur rooted phone.
By the way, did u remove those bloatwares mentioned in that thread??
---------- Post added at 09:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 AM ----------
I would suggest you to take a NANDROID backup by installing CWM AUTO-INSTALLER for xperia 2011 devices. and once u have the nandroid backup, u can restore it back to exactly the original state(with applications, settings..).
So as a first step towards protecting your device, do that now.
coz once we have root access, we might brick our phone in trying to explore with apps and third party applications.

If you have bootloader locked you will need to down grade your firmware to build 42 do this download program called flashtools available on xda.
Download from xda the .42 file use flashtools to load on to phone.
Then root with either zergrush method or from flashtools.
Once rooted use ota to update to latest build 62
if bootloader is unlocked then do as described in previous posts.
All software and tools are available in general or q&a sections.

[Q] root xperia play

I bought mt play tomorrow nd updated it to 2.3.4 now I want to root it using doomlord toolkit but in one post I read dat it cant be rooted after updating to any gb after nov 2011 so how can I root my phone now?
Check your firmware version and report back. I'll tell you if it can be rooted. If not, I'll give you the solution.

When I brought it it was 2.3.2 nd after update 2.3.4. build no. 4.0.2.A.0.42
Nd baseband vs. 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
What you can do is downgrade back to 2.3.3 and root. Then get voodoo ota rootkeeper. If you then back-up your root and download superuser, you will be able to ota to 2.3.4 (Make sure to check temp unroot box before ota update)
That's how I got to keep root on mine
