Sense 4.0 Exchange support Q's - HTC One X

While I'm waiting for my One X to arrive, can someone confirm whether Sense 4.0 supports:
- Exchange Task sync
- Exchange Notes sync
I haven't used Sense in almost 2 years, so I really don't remember if HTC had built synching for these as they are not in AOSP.

Yes to tasks, no to notes.

Use MS OneNote instead (app at gstore). It is anyway the better notes application and you can use all 25GB Skydrive storage if you want.

That'll work. Same as SGS II.

Evo + 'droid + outlook

Hey guys. i don't have my evo yet, but i've been reading on how to sync outlook with the phone. i read that you have to sync everything (contacts and all) to a google account and then to the phone. is there any way to sync directly to the phone?
thanks!!
When you say outlook do you mean exchange? There is exchange support using moxier mail. You do not need to sync to gmail.
The Evo will likely include HTC Sync which would allow you to connect and synce with Outlook via a PC connection. It has come with the other android phones. Perhaps one of the guys that got one from IO can weigh in.
wait, no native exchange support??? what?? I was running android 1.6 on my sprint vogue and had exchange built in (custom rom maybe why)...but when i upgraded to the droid with verizon i think i had exchange then as well! so...am i missing something? i think there is a native "work email" app in which you don't have to use moxier mail or k-9 or any of the many others. just set it up w/ your exchange server and use it entirely separate from gmail.
please correct me if i am wrong!

I have gotten so many different answers on Exchange with Android. Very fustrating to say the least but the good thing is the EVO has a 30day return so if there is no native Exchange support this thing is going back.
How Android can not have native exchange support would be beyond me!

I understand your frustration, but I am sure you were being sarcastic above. I can't believe you would miss the chance to enjoy a "supposedly" great piece of hardware with a great OS just because a little bit of effort is involved?
HTC's Sense UI provides "native" exchange support for the Android OS, see this reference (search for "exchange"):
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/03/24/htc-evo-4g-first-impressions/
If you don't like HTC's exchange integration, K9 is a free email client for android with exchange support:
http://www.androidtapp.com/k9-mail/
If you don't like either of the above options, both of which are free, then Exchange by Touchdown is a paid app ($19.99) with exchange support:

Thanks for the links. If I decide to drop sense ui the Touchdown seems like my best option.

I have ran Android since ver 1.5 and everyone has been able to natively sync with my work Exchange server for mail, contacts and calendar.

Sync with Lotus Notes Traveler

Hello, my company uses Domino Mail Server and has set up Notes Traveler to sync with mobiles. Is there any way to use the Desire's integrated ActiveSync with this? When I configure the Server, after the screen that lets me choose what to sync (Email, calendar, contacts) I get an Error message that tells me to try again later. Is there any way to use this, Nitrodesk Touchdown works, but I hate how it only shows the calendar and mails within the app and not in the Phones calendar.
Thanks for your help!

Looks like traveler for Android is close:
"IBM June 17 released the beta version of its free Lotus Notes Traveler for Android application to let Lotus Notes customers access e-mail, calendar and contacts from an Android 2.0 or later device. The app will work for the Android 2.1-based Motorola Droid, Nexus One, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G. IBM also said its next version of Lotus Connections social software will support Android"

Unfortunately my work uses Notes as well, and I have a Desire. Can anybody get hold of this beta?
not that easy

I was looking for it to but i found out that the server u connect to have to run a beta to for the android beta to work, and have to have a IBM login to bee able to sign up for the beta.
I wont be able to get m company to run a beta server just for me so i have to wait until i can use my deisre insteed of my "work phone"
Yeah I just read that too. There are about 5 Desire users at my work, so hopefully we might see it soon.

Heh. I'm sensing no. We have 800 people working in our location, and about 6 of us have a Desire. There's no way a corporation is going to put everyone through a beta program for the benefit of 0.2% of their employees (and thank God for that, seeing how I do tech support and I'd have to be the one to clean up the mess!)
Sorry
We have used Commontime software for some years with Notes - works well on Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian.
http://www.commontime.com/
We have the beta traveler server installed (separate from our IBM iseries domino server) and it works OK. It's still a separate app for calendar and mail. Nitrodesk has many more features and is preferred by our beta testers (IT staff).
Hmm they have just updated to 8.5.2.0 on the traveler server at work.
Calendar and contacts and mail are fully integrated with my Android (htc desire)
I have no traveler client... one problem though... when opening mail, the email client crashes.... everything else works. I can list their mails and mapps but not open any mail.

Couldn't someone make a Widget for Traveler . atleast the calendar

Meh. The only thing I miss from Sense is the interface for selecting windows in the browser.
And maybe the little magnification window that appears when you're selecting text.
All the other features are pretty easily replaced. And my phone is faster now than it ever was on Sense roms.

I haven't found a replacement for the contact linking feature (linking gmail contact with facebook data too)
Anyone know of anything for this? It's basically the only reason i stay with sense
was on Twitter too:
googlenexus Google Nexus
Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update now rolling out to Nexus S and Nexus One. Be patient, may take a few weeks for OTA to complete

Well from what I read, the facebook linking is gone with the new version. I also used the htc sense just for that but gave it up because sense is a battery hog.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/22/google-disables-contact-sync-in-facebook-for-android-only-nexus/
there was an update to the engadget article about the facebook thing (see link above)
We believe it is very important that users are able to control their data. So in the over-the-air update for Nexus S, we have a small change to how Facebook contacts appear on the device. For Nexus S users who downloaded the Facebook app from Android Market, Facebook contacts will no longer appear to be integrated with the Android Contacts app. Since Facebook contacts cannot be exported from the device, the appearance of integration created a false sense of data portability. Facebook contact data will continue to appear within the Facebook app. Like all developers on Android, Facebook is free to use the Android contacts API to truly integrate contacts on the device, which would allow users to have more control over their data. We are removing the special-case handling of Facebook contacts on Nexus S and future lead devices. We continue to believe that reciprocity (the expectation that if information can be imported into a service it should be able to be exported) is an important step toward creating a world of true data liberation -- and encourage other websites and app developers to allow users to export their contacts as well.

[Q] ICS email and calendar apps

I got used to the look and feel of ICS calendar and email apps, which I prefer to their hTC counterparts.
Does the HOX come with these apps? If not, where can we find them (apk files)?
Cheers,
JP.

It comes with the HTC skin on top of it. I know you can install the stock email.apk (you will have 2 mails clients then but you could disable the htc one).
Don't know if calander.apk will work.
Thanks xmoo!
I got my HOX yesterday, and was happily surprised with the email app actually. I was previously using a Legend, and IMAP email has a serious bug: sent emails do not appear on the IMAP server.
Cheers,
JP.

The standard Adroid ICS calendar is still available in the widget drawer. But then as you mentioned, HTC has the best email client. Their calendar widget is not bad, furthermore you can resize the Agenda widget
I've installed Apex launcher to replace the somewhat limited Sense launcher, so I have no more access to the Sense widget. I prefer the look and simplicity of the Google Calendar widget.

Nope. It's quite different on month view.
Personally, I think ICS is the best for detailed and smart month view, but both week and day view are equal ...
Since original question mentioned not to be root, flash update is just can't help but you can search "Android 4 ICS Calendar" on Google play (I can't post link cause I'm newcomer on XDA)
PS : flashing Gapps over sense with root won't help, nor simply save .apk from stock ICS and install it on your HTC One X. I tried, it failed ...
Good luck

[Q] Multiple Calendars on HTC One X

Hi Mates,
I bourght a new HTC One X - and I have NOT rooted it.
So in the original HTC One X I am now looking for the best Calendar app available - I am willing to pay for the best app available in case it cost money.
What Calendar app would you guys recommend, that can syncronize using ACTIVE SYNC to 2 different Exhange Calendars + several Gmail Calendars at the same time - AND showing all these calendar appointments in ONE VIEW?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
;o) Osukido

someone correct me if im wrong, but activesync is for windows mobile and it won't sync with android devices, whatever app you use.
Business calendar pro is the best calendar app I've found so far. I only use it to sync with a couple of Google calendars though. I assume if you can sync exchange appointments to your phone then it would work with Business Calendar Pro as well.

Agreed.
I use it with multiple gmail and one activesync account and it can show all or none as you prefer. The activesync meetings were, up until recently showing full formatting HTML instead of just the meeting information - something that had only popped up on the new HTC ICS phones. But that's also been fixed by the latest update.
My favourite is the stock ICS calendar - note thats not the same as the stock HTC one!!
available here. free, looks great, and is very powerful
