Sync with Lotus Notes Traveler - Desire General

Hello, my company uses Domino Mail Server and has set up Notes Traveler to sync with mobiles. Is there any way to use the Desire's integrated ActiveSync with this? When I configure the Server, after the screen that lets me choose what to sync (Email, calendar, contacts) I get an Error message that tells me to try again later. Is there any way to use this, Nitrodesk Touchdown works, but I hate how it only shows the calendar and mails within the app and not in the Phones calendar.
Thanks for your help!

Looks like traveler for Android is close:
"IBM June 17 released the beta version of its free Lotus Notes Traveler for Android application to let Lotus Notes customers access e-mail, calendar and contacts from an Android 2.0 or later device. The app will work for the Android 2.1-based Motorola Droid, Nexus One, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G. IBM also said its next version of Lotus Connections social software will support Android"

Unfortunately my work uses Notes as well, and I have a Desire. Can anybody get hold of this beta?

not that easy

I was looking for it to but i found out that the server u connect to have to run a beta to for the android beta to work, and have to have a IBM login to bee able to sign up for the beta.
I wont be able to get m company to run a beta server just for me so i have to wait until i can use my deisre insteed of my "work phone"

Yeah I just read that too. There are about 5 Desire users at my work, so hopefully we might see it soon.

Heh. I'm sensing no. We have 800 people working in our location, and about 6 of us have a Desire. There's no way a corporation is going to put everyone through a beta program for the benefit of 0.2% of their employees (and thank God for that, seeing how I do tech support and I'd have to be the one to clean up the mess!)
Sorry

We have used Commontime software for some years with Notes - works well on Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian.
http://www.commontime.com/

We have the beta traveler server installed (separate from our IBM iseries domino server) and it works OK. It's still a separate app for calendar and mail. Nitrodesk has many more features and is preferred by our beta testers (IT staff).

Hmm they have just updated to 8.5.2.0 on the traveler server at work.
Calendar and contacts and mail are fully integrated with my Android (htc desire)
I have no traveler client... one problem though... when opening mail, the email client crashes.... everything else works. I can list their mails and mapps but not open any mail.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Couldn't someone make a Widget for Traveler . atleast the calendar

How to import a calendar on WM6

Hi all,
I want to import a calendar from Outlook to my Trinity on WM6.
May I ask to explain me how to do ?
Just to clarify the reason of my demand, I know that if you synchronise you will have all the datas, but on my company, the USB ports are disabled by the administrator, so I want to export the calendar file and import it to my mobile (by email for example).
Thanks in advance for your help

copy your outlook.pst from the office to a portable device (CD-Rom) if your PC has a burner and than syncronize at home
sorry I think you're stuffed- if you copied a .pst file via CD ROM you'd be able to sync once. Change your calendar at work and you have to repeat- it's unworkable.
I don't think it's possible- I presume if your USB ports are diabled, there is no way you could install any other software, and the chances of having a CD writer are low two.
Can you ask your IT folks to install Active sync and a USB cradle for you?

4 Solutions:
a) Let your company buy Exchange
b) Let your company buy Zimbra Mobile (cheeper)
c) Establish a vpn tunnel to office from home to sync your home outlook
d) Sync your outlook at work with google calendar and the synch your outlook at home with the same google calendar (use google to further information...)
Ciao
Thanks claros,
I will try the 4th solution. the other ones are not possible because firewalls (I work in a bank).

interesting idea about google calendar.. i've been looking for a solution like this so my secretary could update my calendar for me at work, without using exchange since our company doesn't have it. What do you use to sync your google calendar? there seem to be so many different options..

I was using this http://remotecalendars.sourceforge.net/ as it was in italian too... But at that time it was almost the only app, now you can find tons of them... RC is an Outlook plugin, but you can find a standalone Calendar Application...
We have Zimbra now so I don't sync with Outlook any more and calendar editing is done via web by our secretary...

Hi,
I see you have an orange icon, so you call with orange? they have a agenda function on their website, you need to login.
maybe that's a solution.
Google calendar is a very good solution. I'm using it with "oggsync" whitch allows me to synchronise google agenda with my 3G connection and oif course with my mobile outlook.
I'm only still having one issue, Google calendar can send invitations but aparently, you can't receive an invitation from a non goolge calendar, you receive an email and then you have to import that iCal file into google calendar.
It would be better if I could receive my invitation directly into google calendar but it's not possible, I'll look further on that, maybe i'll find something.
Thank you very much for your help !

Outlook invitation can cause strange issues, especially if your contacts are different between devices.
And you can use only Outlook or PIM Backup ver 2.5 to backup appointments with participants on your trinity (other programs or older version of pim backup gives errors during restore)

Evo + 'droid + outlook

Hey guys. i don't have my evo yet, but i've been reading on how to sync outlook with the phone. i read that you have to sync everything (contacts and all) to a google account and then to the phone. is there any way to sync directly to the phone?
thanks!!
When you say outlook do you mean exchange? There is exchange support using moxier mail. You do not need to sync to gmail.
The Evo will likely include HTC Sync which would allow you to connect and synce with Outlook via a PC connection. It has come with the other android phones. Perhaps one of the guys that got one from IO can weigh in.
wait, no native exchange support??? what?? I was running android 1.6 on my sprint vogue and had exchange built in (custom rom maybe why)...but when i upgraded to the droid with verizon i think i had exchange then as well! so...am i missing something? i think there is a native "work email" app in which you don't have to use moxier mail or k-9 or any of the many others. just set it up w/ your exchange server and use it entirely separate from gmail.
please correct me if i am wrong!

I have gotten so many different answers on Exchange with Android. Very fustrating to say the least but the good thing is the EVO has a 30day return so if there is no native Exchange support this thing is going back.
How Android can not have native exchange support would be beyond me!

I understand your frustration, but I am sure you were being sarcastic above. I can't believe you would miss the chance to enjoy a "supposedly" great piece of hardware with a great OS just because a little bit of effort is involved?
HTC's Sense UI provides "native" exchange support for the Android OS, see this reference (search for "exchange"):

If you don't like HTC's exchange integration, K9 is a free email client for android with exchange support:

If you don't like either of the above options, both of which are free, then Exchange by Touchdown is a paid app ($19.99) with exchange support:

looking for an exchange mail app

Hi,
I have already tested few mail app ( the stock one, the message 1.0.0024 coming from HTC I think and touchdown)
I am looking for a free app which would be able to :
* retrieve mail from an exchange server, Touchdown and message are good . The stock app give me error message half of the time.
* set an automatic synchronisation on the inbox and on a selected lists of subfolder. Touchdown is ggod for that
* handle the inbox tree in a non totally stupid way ( stock app is ordering by name !!! and I can't figure out the order from message 1.0.0024 ... maybe by date of creation or depending on the age of the captain). Touchdown is good for that
* display correctly the html mail with array ( only touchdown does it even if it doesn't allow to reply to nice html mail .... it will put the mail in attachment !!)
* be quick. Touchdown is extremely slow. Maybe it has to do with the lag of the SGSbut it's definitely slower than the 2 other app ( but better looking)
* nice to have : handle also different mail account like hotmail
For the moment, Touchdown is the best choice but I can use everyday a mail app which can take 20 sec to open a mail and an other 20 to delete it.
Any other idea ?
Thanks
try k-9 mail
Thanks for your post ... it makes me try one more time to setup K9 with exchange
And it seems to work.
At least I have some mail and part of my folder.
will check out their wiki to see how to configure the folder. It seems quite complicated but quite flexible.
For information I had a wrong webdav patch before
Ok so I sepnt at least an hour on the wiki and I can;t find why I can't see any subfolder !
I can see the inbox, the sent item, the contact, the calendar, the spam ... but no subfolder onf the inbox
Any idea ??
Thanks
i just read a bunch of reviews on it but no real "how-to", I'm buying my Samsung Vibrant tomorrow and I plan to get this app so I'll play around with it and see if I can get it setup right
Isnt K9 taking too much space and that too on the internal mem. needs an sd storage properties for mails/data.
Is there an app which does so.

Hi!
I would recommend Improved Email by mtwebster, I do believe it will be to your satisfaction, works with all kind of email, with it you could also accept/decline meeting invites from exchange, been using it for some time now and I'm very happy with it.
All other email apps I tried had problem with at least on of the account types; pop3, imap, gmail or exchange but not this one.

I am testing as well... i want to access company mails mainly (ok, contacts and calendar would be great too, but it's not essential) and three imap accounts. What i have tried so far:
- stock: works, but forces me to enter a security code (triggered from exchange server admin). Besides that, the stock app doesn't have any settings to change preferences on imap servers (folder location, etc.), therefore a no-go.
- k-9: i am using k-9 mail for all my imap accounts, works like a charm, i can point to the correct folders (for sent mails, spam, etc.), but i can't get exchange to work, although i tried various options from their wiki.
- touchdown: i tried this app as well, works very well. As i am using exchange 2007, it shows only new and unread mail, no old mail. Besides that and the fact that it seems to be rather slow (and expensive for this poor performance), it would be my first choice.
Any other suggestions (or hints, how to get k-9 exchange work or touchdown faster) would be really appreciated.
All the best,
ww

I tried improved email. It's pretty good except that the email I sent via it is in 1 long line when viewed in the outlook client.
I don't know what you are doing but the stock email app has none of the problems you describe with outlook.
- I have never had an error downloading a message. I use Push for delivery. (other options have battery drain issues), so you don't have to "schedule" a sync since it is always in sync
- Messages are sorted in recieved order for me
- Images in HTML emails I have no issue with
In short - I think the stock email app works perfect with outlook, in fact it is better than the Microsoft Outlook mobile I used to have in WM 6.5.

You forgot the new security settings (which means, if your exchange admin turns on the "use a pin to secure your phone" feature). After i tried the stock mail app of froyo, i had to turn pin code on screen lock on. Besides that, the system never managed to sync more than 100 contacts - therefore the stock app personally is a no-go.

Dunno why but for some reasons, the stock email app will FC when opening certain emails, especially those with alot of frames.
On my side I use touchdown (and old version that i "found" ;-) on the net) because I need to have access to the GAL.
Had no issue with it except that it is slow.
If the stock mail app would have supported GAL i would not really had looked other mail app.
Doing so, if a free app would support GAL i would switch!

[Q] Exchange Email: No Search?

I noticed there is no search option in GN default corporate email app. Did they took out search or am I missing something? Very important feature IMO.
I bought touchdown a long time ago. It is so much more full featured than the built in exchange client it's not even a contest. It's paid for itself many times over.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
There's a search option in the stock email app. Spyglass at the bottom of the screen, above the back button. It seems to actually search bodies as well, which the Gingerbread version did not IIRC. (This may be dependent on the version of Exchange you're connected to, we are on 2007 which does allow for mobile search but the phone has to implement it correctly.)
I used to use Touchdown a long time ago (OG droid release), but through several phone switches and steady improvement of the Exchange client, I've been able to stop using it. It is ugly as sin and I don't like having my corporate contacts split from the rest of the phone, as I use Exchange for all of my contacts and ignore GMail contacts.
The GNex version of the client is actually really good and pretty full-featured at this point.
Touchdown is great and I have been using it on gingerbread phone (best app that can do html email on exchange 2003).
But the default email app on GN is great. I love how the emails look and GAL lookup work.
ZPrimed,
I do not see the spyglass button on my app. Maybe because I am using exchange 2003. We are upgrading to exch 2010 , so hopefully the spyglass button will be available in that version.
One feature touchdown has that I use regularly is the ability to do a server search since I don't sync nearly as much mail down as my server holds.

That's your problem.
The search is implemented by making a request to the Exchange server and asking it to perform the search (with its own full-text indexes of your mailbox). The server then spits results back to your phone. IIRC 2003 can't do this, or if it can, the option isn't enabled by default.
Exchange 2010 will allow you to do it.
IME, most phone e-mail apps that have a search and DON'T implement server-side search only allow you to look in the sender address and subject - you don't get full body searching, unless they are storing it all in a DB on the phone and indexing that separately (and even then, you only get 30 days worth of results or whatever you have it set to pull in your folders).
Touchdown Honeycomb version (Tablets) works on ICS
Existing Touchdown users. Dev modified it to work on ICS phones, MUST be using latest beta build until he finishes formal testing and releases to Android Market:
You can get that beta from here:
http://nitrodesk.com/tddownloads/nitroidbeta-honey.apk
Server Side search works great he also added a less pushy push implementation which is using less battery for me than the ICS mail app.

ZImbra calendar sync problem

I try to sync with the Zimbra collaboration server at ny work through an ActiveSync account. This works fine for mail and contacts, but not the calendar. It won't sync at all.
I tried a lot of things: sync with another Zimbra demo server on the web: same problem. Syncing a LG phone on GB: works. Syncing my old HD2 (now on CyanogenMod 9, so also ICS): works syncs partly.
Since both Android 4 phones have issues, my guess is that it is related to ICS.
Can anybody confirm this issue?
Anybody?
Same problem here, tried purging my calendar of recurring items, purging it completely, upgrading to the latest Zimbra, no go.
New items on the phone seem to get pushed to the calendar, but not the other way around. This is going to be a killer problem, I live by my calendar.
Update: my colleague has the same phone (but unrooted) and has the same problem. So it seems to be a real issue with the combination of HOX and Zimbra.
I also live by my calendar. Therefore, I found a workaround: get CalDAV-sync from Google Play. This works with Zimbra, and it you get the benefit that it is possible to sync more than one (default) Zimbra calendar.
Same here
I have the same problem here. You can use LvSync for calendar - it works. Two-way sync is not yet completely fixed for the One X - a problem with Sense 4.0 according to the developer.
There is another problem with the default email client - it cuts the quoted text in replies (the option to send the quoted text is enabled in settings).
Server running Zimbra 7.1.3
Thanks folks. Both of these are commercial apps, anyone tried both?
I note with a little concern that one of them is tagged as beta, a little cheeky for a commercial app.
Last update for VZA is like a year ago. Full of bugs I hope they will make a final release cuz I really like the app
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I use CalDAV-sync (beta) now and it works as it should. The two-way sync is the beta part but it works without any error until now. I know it is a commercial app, but the price is low compared to the time lost in testing/debugging zimbra calendar with the activesync
I haven't tested lvsync.
I did test icssync, which is free, but I could not get this to work wit Zimbra.
Thanks ardkuijpers. And this syncs with the standard HTC/Android calendar, not some custom monstrocity like the official Zimbra app mentioned above?
That didn't last long on my handset, what an /awful/ first attempt, and zero progress since. You have to wonder about the Zimbra guys, they're very hit and miss.
Yes, it syncs directly to your android calendar. It installs as a new account type, similar to activesync.
That'll do nicely, thanks again ardkuijpers.

Yes, it syncs directly to your android calendar. It installs as a new account type, similar to activesync.

It seems and ecoding problem...
HTC One X fully updated
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 4.0
Software Version: 1.29.401.11
HTC SDK API: 4.12
HTC Extension: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_7
Is there a thread with same problem on Zimbra forum on section: Forum -> Zimbra Collaboration Suite -> Mobility -> Zimbra Mobile -> Zimbra 7.2 & HTC Sense 4
Please remember report problem on HTC Support!
Seems like this is still a problem. I'm on HTC One 4.2 update. Still the same problem.

Same here
I have the same problem here.

I am looking for a Zimbra open source developer.
I did check Upwork platform and failed to find one. Please advise where to find candidates
