I've read several discussions about MHL cable, some suggested to buy only OEM stuff, some say even non-OEM stuff works good.
Now that some time has passed, what's the suggested MHL cable to buy?
Go to monoprice dot com and get the one they have. Mine works great and it's like $8.
I ordered the Monoprice one as well. Does yours require a micro USB connection to a power source in order for it to display?

Its works fine
Don't know if monoprice ships to EU
EDIT: Yep it does but it's 30$ of shipping :/
I've heard a few reports of people finding their cables only seem to output 720 instead of 1080. Not sure if it's cheapo cable related, or what, but possibly something to look into before ordering.
I'm really looking forward to grabbing one of these cables and a bluetooth mouse & Keyboard.

Of course it would output 720p. It only outputs 1080p when you play a 1080p video. Either it works or it doesn't. I'm sure all of the mhl adapters will output 1080p when the phone should.

I have a genuine one, it's fine, but as you know you need a charger and HDMI cable. Wife's SE Neo has micro hdmi connector and she only need a cable (supplied) and that is definitely more practical.
Wondering if exist some MHL that works without power adapter ?!?!

I doubt that'll work as it's not an MHL connector, which I understand is HDMI and USB combined, but if it somehow does... bargain!
Lol now i look properly its not going to work at all
imo very stupid not to use standard HDMI mini port... now we have to buy adapters and ****.. and the phone won't charge if you don't have special adapter.. epic fail imo.. anyway they should include adapters with the phone.
I agree, they should include the required cables and adapters in the box, other manufacturers like Nokia do with their flagship handsets.
I think MHL will ultimately be better than mini HDMI port though, since its looking very likely to become the next standard connection.
I'm hoping to get one of the MHL cable/adapters from the MHL consortium for my Clove Blog review, if I do then I will post up a youTube video for everyone. At the present time the consortium PR person is trying to procure one for me, but it seems likely its inordinately difficult, so remains to be seen whether I will have it in time for the review.
In the very least, you'd expect them to have manufactured and released the accessories by the time the actual phone is released.

First stock due mid-June just saying.
Can someone confirm for me that this is the same cable. They call it an Ethernet Micro-HDMI (Type D).
Edit: Monoprice[)0Tcom has them for like 5 bucks. I can give the link so you can see the cable once I get some more posts in here.
I'm not worried about the Ethernet part, it should not get in the way because the extra connections for it are female.
Also, there is a lot of great info on these forums. Look forward to sticking around and modding some phones in the future.
Edit 2: So when searching for the Samsung cable by Goog'ling the phone, they call it either "microUSB" or "HML port"
That site has two different types that they call: Mini-HDMI (Type C) and Micro-HDMI (Type D) the type C looks like the usual Samsung cable connection, I was just wondering if there is some different way they wired the Samsung cables so that we had to use those ones. I cannot see them doing that though since there are many devices switching to the same cable as well.
The trick is that standard HDMI so far does not include a link for power. The Samsung MHL adapter has a microUSB plug that connects into the phone and a microUSB jack to connect your charger, and the mini-HDMI jack to hook up to the TV so the device gets charged while playing back. In a future specification update, HDMI will probably be amended to include a power link.
Some info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtwTcnR0hqA
Clove told me that the MHL cables from different manufacturers will be compatible which is useful to know. I guess they all conform to the standard

i dont understand how the phone has is out but the cables are not? how do they know it works if theres no cables lol
Has anyont tried out HDMI/ USB adapter on this yet? Is it full mirroring?
Using an MHL adapter does give you mirror display output. There is not enough power from the phone to power the MHL adapter, so you must use a power adapter.
I used an HTC MHL adapter. Check with Monoprice, they just started carrying generic MHL's.
Did u guys gets an adapter with your phone? Wirefly said I wasn't supposed to get one.

Nope. They are cheaping out on us. Just the phone and charger.
The European version at least got some decent looking headphones, and I have seen one set actually have a basic leather case. The case might have been a reviewers special or something.
Best place I would recommend getting an MHL would be Monoprice. You can get them cheaper at Amazon or Ebay, but you get what you pay for from those places.

That would be an MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link)
Usb to HDMI with another USB port for power. I have an HTC version. Works great, must use power to usb port next to HDMI output. Some devices have enough power to drive the adapter. Unfortuntely, the E4GT does not.

got my mhl adapter and mirroring is working good.
However wondering if there is any way to make the video quality playback better?
should one adjsut the screen density or any other settings?I have you tube and netflix playing well but not in that high of quality IMO
Now for all you Nitro HD users who didn't know that it is possible to stream video through the Micro USB port, well yes you can That port is actually a MHL port (Mobile High-def Link), which combines both Micro USB and HDMI features together, and all you need is a MHL adapter to connect your phone to your HDTV and stream movies while having your phone charged.
Now my question goes to those who know about these things. Any idea which MHL adapter is compatible with this phone, or can we use any adapter from any maker? And also, has anybody tried using the MHL capability on this phone?
Well, one would think it wouldn't be proprietary based on the fact that all MHL enabled phones use this as a standard now. I have used a MHL cable from an HTC Raider on a Galaxy S II and it worked just fine.
Does anyone else hear a slight grinding/grainy noise when you plug in the Micro USB? It always makes me feel like I'm breaking it.
any mhl adapter should work.

I think if the tv supports mhl mode then you don't need to plug in power.
If tv just has hdmi port then you need to plug in power.
The mhl adapter has microusb port for power input.

Mine should be arriving on Thursday - just grabbed one of the many off amazon...
So my bro got me an Accell MHL adapter for Christmas and I'm finding it doesn't work with my phone. It doesn't even provide a charge. I'm thinking its physical dimensions are such that the connector into the phone doesn't go in far enough (kinda LG's fault for making the port recessed, kinda their fault for making the connector so damn fat). So, if you guys find one that works for cheap, do you think you could hit us with a link?
TL/DR, Accell's doesn't work, please post ones that do

it needs power for mhl to works. did you try to reboot the phone after you plug in mhl and power input for mhl? i tried on samsung infuse mhl adapter and it works!
Yeah, I provided power and performed every possible sequence of hooking it all up that I could think of and also rebooted several times. I really think it's the form factor of the Accell connector combined with our slightly recessed port that causes it to not go in far enough. I just need someone to give me a suggestion of a brand to buy that they know firsthand works well with our P930.

How does this play out with USB host mode in Android?
Do I need another adapter for host mode? Or can I use this one while I also have HDMI out?
http://www.amazon.com/Menotek-Adapt...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325341220&sr=1-1
This one seems to be "certified" for the Galaxy Nexus and also has a charging port to use while doing HDMI output. Does the Samsung adapter come with this?
I'm most certainly interesred but I want more details before shelling out money, even if it's small money
Edit: Looked at the video and I see the USB port there. Still though, how does this play wtih USB host? Do I even need an adapter for that?
Using the HDMI adapter and playing games with a controller can only be done with a bluetooth controller? Is there any way I can use HDMI and a USB PS3/360 controller?
(using the PS3 wireless is not a option for me i cannot get the app and phone to work together)

to ppl with questions, i got the official samsung gs2 mhl adapter. its 11$.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230721222527?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
works wonders. i am 4.0.2 stock.
it uses full hdmi. 1$ on ebay.
it has a charging port, but it shows plugged in as usb charger even when plugged into the wall. it only draws enough power to power keep the charge constant, that is your battery does not go down, nor does it go up. and no, you cannot connect usb host when watching in mhl mode. would have been cool, but doesnt work.
One more thing, apparently THE PHONE HAS TO BE PLUGGED IN FOR THE MHL ADAPTER TO WORK. So, unless you plug in the charger, the mhl adater wont give output.
i hope i answered all questions.

Wow. So emulator+wifi+bluetooth+mhl= dead phone. 500ma is not enough to keep the GN floating.
Seems like a huge oversight on Google's part or perhaps it's just a MHL limitation. I know data does not work, which is why people have to use BT. But 500ma, what a joke.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Awesome video and post, thanks!!
Does the MHL to HDMI work with Android Movies? I know on my stock Transformer TF101 HDMI out is blocked in Movies. ...worked fine for Netflix and others though.
As far as battery is concerned. Would it be possible to program the screen to turn off when viewing in HDMI and still view it on the TV? seems like this would cut battery consumption dramatically. If not you could set the screen brightness to as low as possible.
Thanks man! Gonna buy this ASAP

So it looks like the only option is to use some sort of dual charging situation where one charges the MHL adapter and the other charges the phone via pogo.
Perhaps the native HDMI doc allows AC charging? I guess we will have to wait and see.
Yeo, I've been wondering for awhile if there were any decent composite video out options for smartphones these days, be it through the 3.5 mm jack or mhl.
And so I've found this, and am wondering if anyone has any idea if this would work with the HTC One?
Err, I can't post links yet, since I've been a lurker for years. Just go to eBay and search "290904213972" and it will show up.
I actually do have a 3.5 mm to composite cable, but no HTC One to test it with xD so any input on that would be appreciated too.
I do know that some phones did work with the 3.5 mm jack for video out in the past, but it was not an advertised feature.
Thanks guys :fingers-crossed:
that cable is for the HTC Touch Pro (per product description in ebay), that use a slightly modified version of MINI USB port, HTC ONE uses the MICRO USB port for data, charging and MHL (which is the common option to connect the one to a tv (captain ovious)), so...it not even could be plugged, so you can not use that cable with the ONE
Geez, I didn't even look at the cable. Auto-assumed it was micro. Oh well, anyone know of any alternatives?
The best you can do is grab a MHL adapter, hdmi to RCA/AV and a female to female HDMI splitter. Although, I think most HDMI to RCA/AV cables are to allow you to output to HDMI. I don't exactly know if it's two way or one way, so someone else can chime in on that. Although you can probably get all 3 for about $15.
I've always understood that when switching from analog (rca) to digit (hdmi) or the other way around, you need a processor to convert the signal - a dedicated box that requires power and is usually expensive.
I've worked in av for a few years and this was true working with dvi and a few other connections, but I hadn't worked with hdmi so I can't confirm this.

Yea, those cables that purportedly go from hdmi and branch off into RCA supposedly don't work. I was thinking of the converter box, just wondering if there were any cheaper, uglier solutions.
What about 3.5mm to RCA? Is that supported on the One?
I don't believe 3.5mm to rca is available on newer phones as we have MHL
