Hi
Had a search and couldn't find an answer so here I go.
I believe that the desire records at 15 fps which leads to choppy recordings vs my iPhone 3gs. I was wondering, is there a hack to increase the fps beyond what it currently sits at?
Thanks

Yes, Froyo. Should add 720p recording at min 20 FPS.
Does the eventual update also add better sound quality to video recordings?
I say AMR 8000khz codec is worse then my now defunct N73....

+1 I'd rather see a steady 30fps + great audio quality 480p video, than crappy 720p.
Is there a hack to get 30 fps now?!

I really don't see why HTC chose to only encode audio with the AMR-codec at such low quality... Is the microphone of such poor quality that they "hide" it using this codec?
Anyone tried recording sound using some another software?

Try the built in Voice Recorder?
It's the same crappy quality...

Then using "other software" will only serve to mask it, if anything.

Most likely, almost make me wonder why not to let go S.Jobs dictatorship when i look this video what is claimed to be shooted in iphone4 (sorry my swearing) http://cl.ly/1P50. Almost.
What would your guys recommend for playing .avi videos on the Desire? There are so many to choose from. Act 1 is good? It's not free

The beta RockPlayer is the best AVI player we currently have. However, which AVI it plays depends on that vids properties (like format).
Check the themes and apps section under titles like 'DivX/XviD player'.
Act 1 is excellent for many other vids, like H.264.

I can't link or search threads through the phone app but this has been discussed extensively before. You can record much higher quality audio using other apps. Mainly those saving in MP3, PCM, MP4 and WAV. I'm not sure how they do it though.
For simple, quick, voice recording I use Virtual Recorder the most.

i absolutely agree with you....i want a super smooth recording and playback at the 480p size and not more...if the quality of this is good then you can upscale it with conversion...but if it's crappy high resolution then even if you downgrade it it won't be very smooth
You can already see what the unofficial, hacked HD recording is like, i.e. http://db.tt/0Ngrnd

As has been discussed a few times priorly, the current vid recording FPS have been observed to fluctuate between ~3-28 based on the ambient light levels, level of motion in the footage and the speed of the cam movement. The current recording can be much improved over but these factors contribute to some hard fundamental limitations.

Seriously every single video I record comes out with artifacts and choppy/freezing. What in the world is happening. I can't be the only one? Fix for this!!? So disappointing, sigh
Try on CM6. HTC sucks at coding.
They set a low bit rate in the video with high compression. CM has normal ones, plus they're working on better audio.

Damn out of all the times I've flashed CM6 I've never tried the HD recording! This might be the definite deal breaker for me for Sense Roms.
Yeah. It looks really nice on CM6. >_<
I had the same issue with 2.1 and 2.2. I noticed that when I played the video for a second time it would play smooth (maybe it got cached). I just changed the SD card to a Ridata class 6 and now videos always play OK.

Yeah but it also plays back choppy on my computer when I transfer the file over or if I upload it to YouTube or anywhere else. I am going to try CM6 now and see what kind of results I get.
I'll admit I haven't tried 720P recording on CM6 in a few weeks but under RC1 the issue I was having was that the video and audio would lose sync...I took a recording of my dog barking at my cat and the video of the bark was showing before the bark sound. I guess I should try it on the nightly I'm running now and see how it is.
do not record in mpeg4 try H.264 that worked for me

Youtube HAS got a HQ option, it is already in HD
Settings -> About Phone -> System Update
But, I wouldn't really use stock, without rooting ^^ You NEED these Xtra options ^^
Oh so youtube HQ is 720p HD? I did not know that....

In a way... But, what I ment was; That the phone itself, is running in a HD resolution, (720*1135) and Youtube is basically forced, to provide HD...
Or better, it chooses, which is best, for your current bandwidth

You can, but you won't notice, because of the HD screen... It basically runs in HD, all the time...
To explain it better:
You have (as an example) a Windows-PC. You open Youtube. Click on a video, let's say, that your reolution is aboout 1440 by 720...
You put the video full-screen. It runs in HD, because of your screen resolution, even if the file is running at a lower resolution. When you click HD, it just multiplies the amount of logical pixels, in a physical pixel, causing the effect of sharper corners, brighter pictures, etc...
And the app, basically just renders the video, to do the same thing, as on a PC... It only renders the picture, at a doubled rate. And when the bandwidth is high (1000kb/s or higher) it doesn't need to render, because Youtube automatically sends the video in HD...
The HD option appears on wifi. When on cellular data this changes to HQ quality, not quite as good. HD on wifi is the best quality by far.
anyway to make it HD on data as well? I have seen other phones where they have modified youtube app that lets them watch HD on data 3g

I think maybe on a custom rom, but I haven't searched specifically. It definitely would be painful over cellular unless you have Verizon lte. The HD versions really are high quality and huge data.

You have to enable HD in the settings of the app...it doesn't play HD by default...and it will play in HD no matter what data you have 2g, 3g, 4g or wifi...but obviously if you are watching a video in HD on 2g its gonna take forever to load

Just found this out today while watching Youtube videos on Data connection.
- If you open HD video in landscape mode on the GNex, it will go into HQ mode
- If you open HD video in portrait mode to start, then when the video is loading in portrait mode, change the orientation to landscape, it will go into HD mode (and quality is much much better than HQ mode, I would say real HD quality)
I tested this on 4.0.4 GNex GSM with the same youtube video on data connection. After this test, I realized HQ is no where close to HD quality.
Hope this helps =)
Hi
I was wondering is there a way or an app to watch youtube videos in 720p, not just HQ? Thanks.

I think it also has something to do with the quality of the video. If the quality is low, the video wont have a HD option.
Hope this helps.

It's not the video, I think. I have ogYoutube and official Youtube apps. Same thing with both of them. I have H+ connection btw.
I saw a tweak in custom rom to make youtube videos play in hd. Is there a way to do this with mobile data connection too?
Hi guys, I'm sorry if there is any solution for this problem into the forum, but I didn't find it.
What can I do to solve the problem with watching videos on Youtube. I mean, they are seeing too bad, pixelated with a very low quality and that's annoying
BTW, I'm using 4.2.2 stock rom.
Hope you can help me.

Maybe your internet connection? Is it unstable or slow?
Low screen resolution (only 480x800) means you're limited to 480p or lower, because more than that you can't tell the difference... of course resolution is not everything, there is also codec and video bitrate. A 1080p with low bitrate may look more pixelated than a 480p with a slightly higher bitrate.
I am facing this problem in CM 11(4.4.2) too. You are on stock 4.2.2 then it is possible that bug is in Youtube App.
I am using Tubemate to watch videos from youtube.
Attaching Samples from both Apps. See the diffrence for same video.Same quality (720P).

They're not the same quality. HQ is not the same as HD. HQ in this device is the highest resolution the screen and GPU can render (480p). When you turn off the HQ button then it will scale automatically to your internet speed (144p, 240p, or 360p). 720p is considered HD, just like 1080p.

Thanks for clarification buddy. You are right because I tried to play that video in 480P mode in tubemate and it came up with "not supported".
That means it is pixelating due to downscale/upscaling to 800 X 480 . NOT A BUG.:good:
The YouTube app is displaying videos on 4.2.2 GPU libs in crap quality
Thats why even CM11 and all KitKat ROMs have the same prob

Ok.
Thank u all about the information, now I'm very clear about the problem.
BTW, I'm using Instatube and works fine.
Try see vĂdeos in Browser its more clear and good the app its really really BAD
Just install the old youtube apk ver 4.5.17 ... it will solve your problem
Just keep in mind ( dont allow play store to update the youtube app to new ver or else u will again see pixelated video).
