Yeah, heard many people speaking about Dolby Audio ports/apks. Is there anything like this for the defy/defy+? (And not Beats, unless it is a part of Beats.).
I know there is such a so-called dolby mobile app,you may give it a try:

Not bad. But a good equalizer with bass booster is better for me

in my current ROM virtuous affinity v1.48..the SRS and Dolby have no difference with the no effect..is anybody with the same problem? only beats audio and equalizer working...=/
SRS and Dolby work just fine for me.
Are you listening through headset/AUX cable or over Bluetooth? SRS and Dolby have a significant effect in these cases. If you are listening only through the external speaker, you won't hear much difference, as it lacks the bass response to really take advantage of these enhancements.
If you still can't hear a difference on headset or BT, maybe try to wipe and re-flash?
They don't work in Affinity and RCMix... and yes, I'm using headphones...

Hmm, you're right. SRS and Dolby have no affect on wired headphones (headphone jack), but they work in Bluetooth.

Since the issue is present on both Affinity and RCMix, I'd be inclined to think its an issue with the original Runnymede/Sensation XL ROM (or some incompatibility with our hardware). But I'm just guessing, and I'm not a developer.
Normally, I'd say log it as a bug on Affinity. But development on Affinity is all but halted, so that probably won't help much. You might post the issue on the Affinity thread or the RCMix thread, and see if anybody has any ideas.
HELLO devs and noobs like me,this a mod which i extracted from the desires z forum,I extracted it because i wanted my fellow sense 3.0 user who want to feel beats audio. This addon adds BEATS AUDIO! AND SRS AND DOLBY AUDIO! Also, RCMix tweaks, which includes turning CRT on and off on the fly, WITHOUT THE ORANGE LED BUG!!! this also comes with a blue theme.

thats because youve tweeked the sound to compliment your headphones where as beats is more generic.
just read what you said... an app doesnt care what you are plugging into it so the reason you are hearing a difference is because of your hardware and nothing to do with beats
you could configure dsp manager to sound better in your car however i no longer use dsp as the eq and preamp in poweramp is far superior
you could create an eq profile for your headphones and an eq profile for your car and then you dont have to turn anything off , just switch profile
poweramp is awesome, yes it costs money but its utterly worth it if you are a fan of good sounding music (the sound reproduction is the best ive heard on my desire with sennheisers )
beats lowers midrange on eq and hightens bass and treble, exactly like megabass. its no magic trick
Hi there,
I have just been doing some reading/research and have just found out that people believe the HOX's beats enhancer sucks?
I thought the sound quality was epic?
But people suggested getting an equalizer such as:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmVxdWFsaXplciJd
My questions are:
Does the Equaliser get rid of the beats enhancement?
Is setting an Equaliser up properly going to make music better than using the Beats?
THANKS !!!
Beats headphones are mediocre and overpriced.
Beats sound "enhancer" is a bass-heavy equaliser.
Other equalisers are configurable and work instead of the beats one, but don't get rid of it, it can still be switched on if that's what you want.
It would seem that some peoples ears or brain-wiring is broken, although what one would like to hear is quite subjective.
it depends on the app, but for me all i have tried don't override Beats, and end up like rubbish.
I didn't see any equalizer have better bass/treble than Beats, so far.
Maybe try installing beats equalizer mod (if not stock), that is the best customization option IMO.

Cheers mate
Problem is I haven't touched my HOX so completely stock.
So basically, an EQ won't over-ride beats properly?
And could cause it to be worse than usual?
So stick with beats?
Yeah man ....beats are rubbish ...use Esq equalizer ....its very good if you like bass
Ahh! Two different points of view.
Someone saying EQ sucks?
Someone saying Beats Sucks?
Which should I use?
How will I get better audio from my songs, using the in-built beats or downloading an EQ and playing with that?

I use beats with dspmanager, link not in Sig as on phone but you can get it from profile.
Beats uses compression makes the music louder at the cost of quality (audio people will hear it, most people will be like oh louder).
And as said is quite bass heavy.
Dspmanager is an eq that comes of cm roms I just put it in a zip edited a few files for sense.

If you install one and dislike it, you can uninstall it right?
I'm sure they come with some presets to give you an idea.
Anybody running an aftermarket eq or dsp pack? Looking to improve the audio. Tried a beats apk and it would only work intermittently, switched to player pro with the dsp plugin and audio is a little better. On my one x plus i had the viper rom with beats audio and it sounded great and had a bunch of different headphone profiles built in. Id like to get something like that again. Anybody found something that works. I am rooted on the at&t model if you need to kno.

Improve Audio?
I think Poweramp still the king
With tuning at Equalizer and Tone
audio quality sucks on every Qualcom chipsets... that makes me to come back to my iphone
I just downloaded Equalizer from Smart Android Apps last night. BIG improvement to the sound quality, and the "Unlocked" version is only two bucks.
I have done much searching on this and have still not found a definitive answer as to what the beats audio that is "built into" the phone and stock ROM do. I have found some explanations that claim it is simply an equalizer profile, but I am very skeptical simply because having toggled it on and off while playing many different musical genres, the sound is always much cleaner and crisper from the speakers with beats enabled, even though the consensus seems to be that beats mostly is only beneficial to those who listen to hip hop. I never listen to hip hop and would love to switch to cyanogenmod rather than stock or the GE port that I am currently using, but I really hate to give up the beats option. Can anybody explain exactly goes on when beats is enabled? Is there a hardware filter/dsp chip, or some kind of alternate amplifier that runs the speakers when it is enabled, that SW access to is lost when using an AOSP ROM? It has to be something more than a simple equalizer, I have tried using many different alternatives in an attempt to recreate the sound that beats gives that would be viable for use with CM, including viper audio, music fx, and Noozxoide. None of these truly replace having beats, and I think the video comparison linked below does a good job of illustrating the difference for anybody who is unsure of the significance of the difference I am talking about.

Beats is a dsp chip. The best replacement I have found is viper4android. To get the full effect of viper you have to change lpa.decode=true in the build prop to =false. Change the ui setting of viper to expert and start playing around. I found that using the eq in combination with the impulse response delivers the best quality.

I used viper before but maybe I wasn't using the right settings. So there is an actual hardware DSP chip in the phone that filters the signals to the speakers? Not just a process loaded onto the CPU? Then I would guess that because of the beats copyrights, the DSP chip can't be accessed or utilized from an AOSP ROM?

No aosp can't use beats because the kernel can't use the source yet. People have been working towards adding kernel support for beats on aosp. It may be possible just not currently.

While this may be a good starting point the best method is to experiment and find what works best for you. He forces viper audio which is something I never do and doesn't need to be done.

Also, I have noticed that viper almost never sounds the same between roms, rom versions etc. I pretty much have to tweak the settings a little bit every time. I do use the same basic configuration with the exception of the eq.

agreed, this is the closes thing to sounding like beats on AOSP and the Carnage's profile is the best by far. :good:
give it a try. OP
Basically all it is in my opinion is just a glorified equalizer. If you are listening to music, playing a video, etc. All it really does that I've noticed is make it louder and adds a little more bass. My girlfriend has an aftermarket Pioneer stereo in her car that has built in Bluetooth and listening to music through my HTC one vs her Samsung galaxy s4 I noticed a bit of difference in those between the two phones. That's the best way I know to describe it.

It is an equalizer, but in reality, instead of relying on software and using cpu power, it it's a built in chip that only works on sense and HTC GPE roms as the technology is closed source.
