Hi all
A few of us Moderators have been getting PM's that in my case have not been dealt with due to the fact I am not always on the board.
All of us do this for free and in our spare time, and over time we move on, get new toys, or even go back to a real life without a keyboard under our fingers.
Please try to understand that some of us are Bias (I admit to it I have a BA and am not intrested in many of the other sections).
Thus I for one do not read all posts and all sections, I feel this is true for others, like I said I feel this.
We all however try to check the trash and keep the news clean.
For this reason we need a form of communication that is not based on a person but directed to a group and in this case its the Moderators and Admins.
It is with that motivation in mind that I have opened this thread and made it sticky in the hope that you are able to post issues that you think that at least one of us should deal with.
Please note that this board does not tolerate cracks, serials, pirated versions or the posting of software that should have been aquired by legal means and we will remove (delete) them when found. Please help us keep this site clean by posting links of that sort in this tread as well as telling us if you have found anything on the ftp site.
Please use this thread, use and edit the wiki and remember this board would not be as great as it is without YOU.
Thanks for your support.

Thanks MDAIIIUser.
And remember, mods aren't Gods, despite us all being flaxen hair'd Adoni.
We can't create new Forums, change the Welcome page or Index page, or supply you with new flags or avatars. But ask anyway, it helps us put pressure on the Admis, who are the true Smooth Operators of this board.

Thanks guys!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for postings this.
We (admins) are behind you (though we also aren't gods )

redirection from www.xda-developers.com still pointed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/front_page.php
link above is not valid anymore
I guess, it should be pointed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php
nothing major, just easier that way
Think that is correct that is the main page, the forum is a sub element which you can get to from the main page. If you just want the forum then bookmark it.
Link above worked for me
[req] mobile forum theme
Let me first thank you for moving to a much better forum application than phpBB.
I hope one day we can have access to a mobile friendly theme from owr phone. If implemented, I would also like to request that the theme option be stored in cookies rather in the database so we wouldn't have to enter User CP and change the theme every time we log in from our mobile or desktop.
thanks!
Charmer Wiki locked, someone have a check on that please. Thanks
checked it,
opened, edit, saved and removed edit fine
Try on another different user account? Look at my screen shot. The Page-Info gives me the LOCKED status. And, I only see the View-Source not the normal Edit button. Something wrong?
Is it possible to regain the option: view your posts? I liked it but can't find it now anymore.
go User CP -> Find all your posts.
I didn't notice, thanks!

Somebody is having fun with the locking of pages!
Thanks (unlocked now)
Just wondering, with the recent spamfest that seems to be taking place is there any pattern developing in the IPs used that would allow an IP ban to be placed? or are they using anon proxies? I know from my own experience as an admin on another forum they can be a pain, but they really seem to be targetting this place.... A friend of mine is a developer for vb and if there is anything that could be of use I can ask him if he would be able to create a plugin to help you block it.
In many ways this is one of the best sites I have seen (apart from the one I am an admin on of course, we all take pride in the sites we run heh) and I would like to assist in any way to stop any of the users being taken in by spammers like that. (yes, I know most of the users here are smart enough not to fall for it lol) Certainly it's one of the most informative on the HTC devices.
I don't see Cingular in the drop-down list for profiles.... found this a bit odd....

Thanks for you suggestions and compliments though

Seems I got overlooked....
It's bugging me that I have to show AT&T as my carrier, as apparently carrier isn't an optional field, and Cingular isn't available in the drop down menu....
yeah, I'd be ashamed to show AT&T as my carrier also!!!
Hi, I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while. I finally decided to register because I was hoping to collapse (hide) most of the forums on the main page so that I don't have to scroll so far to get to the one or two that I read. So I was a little surprised to see that it wasn't an option even when I was registered. Is there a way to do this that I'm not aware of? I know the feature is available on vBulletin so if its not enabled, is there a reason why?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum
I don´t know if it´s possible to have this option, but respectfully, don´t be so lazy mate, it´s just a scroll longer (Perhaps 2 sec) more away form the thread you need.
And also always you have the option to save on your favourites/bookmarks the direct page you want to reach, and this way you don´t have to "Scroll"
Good luck,
I don't know if vBulletin has that option.
But that would be the constraint
Here's an example forum that uses vBulletin:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/index.php?
See the double arrows on the right side? That collapses the section.
I'm not being lazy. I'm just offering a suggestion to make your site better.
I think this is a brilliant suggestion if it can be implemented. There are quite a few requests posted here about re-ordering the main page, but this could hopefully be an easy fix which would make averyone happier.
I tried to surf this website on my browser on the mytouch 3g and realized that it is a pain the the @$$ to surf. I was wondering if there can be a mobile site.
- You can easily log into your account to access User CP and check your messages.
-Search for Threads and/or Add New Threads feature
-You can pick between Mobile or Desktop View
Also there are some other things that I feel could be better.
-When someone quotes you, you can get an email notification telling you. This way people don't have to subscribe to every thread they put a post to see if people respond to your post.
-A Google Chrome Plug-In like you can see your Account Status easier or search for forums from the URL Bar.
If anyone else has any issues that they want to be fixed please post them I'm pretty sure a Mod or Admin is going to see this thread.
I'm not sure if this has been proposed before but if it has please direct me to the thread and/or lock this thread. I really don't want to be banned or suspended. I searched but could find anything.
This probably would have been best to post in the sticky called (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins. However, I at least have an answer one of your questions, the mobile site one. Somebody on the boards (ktemkin) made a mobile site for XDA-Developers, which is can be accessed by going to http://xda-developers.mobi. It's not the prettiest site and it doesn't have full functionality, but it gets the job done better than any other solution out there at the moment. Hope that helps
Did not know about this. Like u said it's not pretty, but it's the best we have right now.
But vBulletin comes with built-in pda display -- no one ever sees this because it's obscure in the top-left menu on the homepage:
PDA layout

meh, that's just the standard Vbulletin Archive View, branded as a PDA layout. It's better than the standard view when on a mobile browser, but xda-developers.mobi renders things much better IMO. View the forum with your Hero's browser using each one, and I'm pretty sure you'll prefer xda-developers.mobi over the archive view. As I said, neither are perfect solutions, and a dedicated client (like the now halted XDApp) would be best, but both can get the job done to a degree.
Neither

The forums are dynamic. They adjust to the size of device you are using. Just browse to the regular URL and it will adjust accordingly.

You can either, create a referrals URL, so that you give this to your friends, and they join via the URL and you get a referral.
Or
When registering (I'm told) there is a field to enter the name of an existing member who referred you to this site.
Dave
I've wondered about that too.
Thanks for clearing it up.

Not in the Mod CP, maybe your posts inspired someone to join, remember a lot of people only join to download attachments .

You'd be surprised I tend to be less helpful when I try to be, so maybe I should just flame my way to the big 1000
PS: If you're not too busy, can you mention to the powers that be the idea of having your phone, ROM and radio in your username bar (the thing to the left of each post - don't know what it's called...). It was mentioned in this thread as it went a little off topic in the second page, but it seems to have fizzled out a bit.
I think it would be a very useful idea as a lot of support threads ask for such information and quite a lot of users would rather not keep it in their signatures. It also standardises the layout of such things so you can quickly check which phone/ROM/whatever the user is talking about.
I suppose the issues would arise when someone has more than two or three phones as it would make the posts longer, but even then it wouldn't get so bad until it hit around five devices, as it's just two or three lines for each one. Maybe a drop-down box could be used for the device and we could recommend only including primary devices in that, while keeping older ones for your signature only.

I could have sworn that at one point I'd been able to see who my referred sign-ups were, but I can't for the life of me find it now.
I've got 24, and although that's not a lot I'm a bit stumped as to how!
Is there a way to see who has signed up due to my referrals?

Poo. Ah well, cheers mate
Old thread, but wanted to post the method for creating a referrals URL since Dave's link above did not work..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/register.php?referrerid=4238197 <- replace this number with your user ID number
To find your user ID number, click on your user name in the upper right hand corner and see the new URL change in your location bar. Here is mine. Note the u= on the end.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4238197
Referrals doesn't seem to do anything, but it is nice to know that I inspired someone to join up and hopefully contribute.
Good day XDA folks,
Let me start this thread by saying that I very much appreciate the great things made on XDA, keep up the good work, awesome community!:good:
I also want to say that I like the construction of this site in general: not bad, not bad at all... But there is one thing bothering me for some time now, and that thing just crossed the line:
What the **** is wrong with the search functions.
Really, I understand it might be hard to implement a good search function, but XDA has over 5 million members and I feel that a website with that many users has to meet certain standards. The search functions, however, are extremely lacking.
Let me give a few examples of this:
Do you know how, in the "you're a noob"-video of XDA, is mentioned that you have to search for already created threads before making a new one? I did that for this thread by searching the obvious term 'search' in the About xda-developers.com subforum. The amount of relevant results was mind-boggling low: of all 25 items on the first results page, there was one single thread with 'search' in it's title, and this hit was the two-but-last result. I have experienced this sort of search feature incompetence multiple times already, it happens in all subforums, even the very straight forward searches wouldn't give the result I desired.
OK, that's one thing, but only this kind of issue still isn't enough for me to create a thread about this: yes that's right, there's more, something worse. I wanted to go to my device's forum today so I searched for "xperia s" like i always do. Yes this always worked as expected, but not today, so I try to be more specific, I search "sony xperia s" but no, still no hit. Then I got a bit frustrated and typed the exact name of my mobile phone with quotation marks: ""Sony Xperia S"" and a decent-sized list of Xperia devices appeared below the searchbar, BUT IT DIDN'T INCLUDE XPERIA S. I tried other searches but no matter what I wouldn't be able to navigate to the Xperia S forums through the device search function. I have never used such a bad search function before and it makes me rage. So please, XDA, please tell me this is a bug, that it's going to improve, that this isn't supposed to happen.
Dear XDA-devs,
Fix pl0x.
And keep being awesome,
Cheers.
First this would be best addressed by Admins their contacts
just to advice you concerning how search works on XDA, from MY experience
when using " Device search" , just type x you would get a drop down menu based on that letter , imputing the other letters to form xperia would decrease the contents of the drop down menu , say you complete the word "xperia" the available devices will now be listed and from what I note , your device is not listed.
so its now best to quit that search and use the "All Forums search", now when I type xperia s. I also get a drop down menu with a number of items for xperia S, which you can select according to your choosing.
so its working better than before but not under device search but under all forums search.
Check this out! Links to useful Guides and " Banned " Documentaries
To be honest, I rarely use XDA's search function. I find it far easier to use Google and start the search string with "site:forum.xda-developers.com" followed by what I actually want to search for.
Normally far quicker and far more accurate than XDA's search tool, and far less likely to be down when you most need it.
