from the above test results, the performance of the HTC One X closest focusing distance above are not excellent. The 8.2cm’s closest focusing distance compared to the HTC One V (approximately 5.5cm). So if you want the Macro mode to take close-up, then the HTC One, X is not necessarily appropriate.

Both the One S and the One X have the same camera specs and same imaging chip yet the macro focusing distance difference is night and day?
Not slamming on the One X though, I have seen amazing macro photos from the One X
Btw the site above has the review written in totally rotten english. I suspect it was a copy paste chinese to english from google translate. I edited a little of the sentence structure in the above quote. Not that good but it gets the point across

This is because they use difference lens and the sensor crop is probably different too.
What bothers me is that my One X is a noise machine! even at ISO100 I can see similar amount of noise at ISO12800 of Nikon D7000.

I'm very disappointed with micro shots on one x distance is unacceptable tbh

Never knew that HTC used different lens for the One X and the One S.
About the noise, yeah the photos I've seen are pretty noisy. I only wished they have thrown in the Titan II's camera sensor. That thing is capable of pushing the ISO to 1600 lol

Here I am hoping it can be improved with software updates..

Same, even choosing micro option in the camera doesn't improve the distance

Oh I was actually saying different lens for the iPhone and the One X (looked at the photo above).
I have no idea why the shots for One S and One X are different.

The macro function is not perfect, but 8+ cm??
I took this one with a approximate distance of like 4,5 - 5 cm! And thats with Camera 360 on autofocus, not macro shot.
For reference, thats with my keyboard.
It aint that bad after all, and this one was shot in the office with artificial light.

What firmware version/ROM are you running? I couldn't get it to focus on anything lower than 8cm or so.
Interestingly, setting it to "Macro Shot" increased the focus distance to around 9 - 10cm!

Could it be the stock app at fault?

Yes! I experienced Camera360 having better macro-focusing compared to the stock camera app on occasions too! Initially tot it was just my imagination

its not that bad

not sure what you mean by not that bad but your second post seems pretty close. I would take a rough guess that its somewhere around 3~4cm
Stock camera or Camera 360?

just saying that the camera has good macro performance
was with stock cam

Have we gotten any kind of camera test shots yet?

Still looking for some comparison photos of the NG camera. The 5 MP camera is a bit offputting, but for years the iPhone camera was running at less MP and always seemed to have a better sensor and produce better pictures, i'm hoping that's the case right now. The camera and the size are really my two biggest concerns with the device right now.....
Droid life found some pictures from it back in October

Something like that for example?
Test Pictures
They were made with a sample after the release show. Don't know if they are equal to the final product or not.
Engadget and Thisismynext did test shots between GN and the iPhone4S.
Not gonna be a lot of in-depth tests until review units go out.
The post about how megapixels don't mean crap in terms of picture quality needs to be made a sticky on this forum. I'm tired of it coming up. Take a Nikon dedicated camera that taps out at 5MP and compare it to a phone at 8MP and see which looks better.
If you have Google+ account, find Tim Bray and follow him.
He is one of the Android developer.
And he is testing the GN camera right now during his trip, posted in his Google+.
I saw the photos are amazing!

You're right the nonshaky ones look good. I'm not stunned but I would say it's really solid work for a phone camera.
I'm not impressed. The night shot looked sharp for a night photo but the rest... no visible improvement compared to my Galaxy S. So much for sacrificing MP for quality.

+1 I'm actually excited to see what this camera can do. The 5 MP cam on this phone will probably blow the mytouch4g slides 8 MP away. Bottom line, galaxy nexus Is going to be one badass phone. Period.

HTC One X Camera Test Shots!

In case you wondering what kind of picture quality the HTC One X and One S were capable of spitting out, we have a few images here that show off exactly what their new ImageSense technology is all about.
HTC, who has long been known for providing one of the lesser quality cameras on the market, made a pretty big deal about their new camera tech equipping their flagships with with f/2.o aperture/28mm lenses and they even going as far as giving their devices their own dedicated processor for snapping pics, dubbed “ImageChip.” In theory, ImageChip increases image quality while providing super quick autofocus and taking equally fast snapshots on the fly. The LED even features 5 levels of brightness which should eliminate those creepy washed out photos you take in dimly lit areas.

These are actual pics taken by the HTC one series, and HTC recently posted them to their official page on the facebook:

yes true but we have no idea of the settings used while taking the shots, and while nice, hoping for some testers to post some more real world shots!!
yes HTC said they gave the One X/S to some local photographers in Barcelona and they took these
Looks like a bunch of post processed shots to me, the color contrasts are way over the top.
Still nice pics regardless.
What's the ppi of the pictures the One X can take?
Third pic from top

hands yellow?!?! O__o
Camera technology must be in early stage lol
I wonder if the camera will suffer from blurry shots due to the very fast photo capture time? ie similar to galaxy nexus zero shutter lag = blurry photos

That's a good concern. I'm going to give HTC the benefit of the doubt on this one, based on the terrific camera specs and dedicated imaging chip, but who knows...
Why in the 1st pic there is some Violet-colour on the fish?
Hope that the Audio Beast go with One X
I only hope so that are really photos from one X becouse HTC has horrible camera with pink spot on the screen. My first HTC HD2 and now Desire Z have this
Very nice, it should look like this pictures! I'm fascinated.
In the HTC's facebook page for Spain they have a lot more pictures. Can't post external links, so go check it yourself.
It's actually the HTC France page and I don't know why they would post them to that page and not their USA page...weird. While I enjoy those shots, I wanna see how the camera shoots in Auto mode. Most of those pictures were shot using a filter or edited with some sort of app. Would like to see standard shots...lets go HTC!!

ohh I couldn't even find their FB spain page, only France. Either way a lot of those pictures have been floating around for a while, but it was nice to see a few more. I guess we will see what happens when the tech sites get their review units
Hopefully you will be able to save photos in RAW format for editing on a pc or at least be able to adjust the jpeg compression .
What's up with the noise/compression in all these pics? Noticeable on blue skies and such.
any nighttime shots.
these daytime shots look great.

sharpness along with edge noise can be turned off by sharpness -2
camera samples looks bigger on the iPhone this is because the stupid tester didn't turn off widescreen aspect in the settings menu and hence the One X image turned out less than full 8MPixels
seems a more detailed is resolved in darkness and black thanks to f2.0, it takes a second to burn/contrast these images from the HTC gallery effects menu!
the backlight photo of the girl is excellent
the One X is resolving more details @ full scale crops too
I am actually surprised how close they look! is this the same sensor source? sony?
i see the One X a clear winner, thanks to more detail in darkness, shutter speed and backlight HDR, image contrast is for you to adjust from the camera app or the gallery!
The article concludes
"Overall, whether the One X or the iPhone 4S has a better camera boils down to individual preferences. The One X delivers sharper images at the expense of some noise, while the iPhone 4S delivers better colors and noise control.
Personally, the fast shutter speed and sharper images of the One X feel like the better option."

banging my head to the table
iPhone has no settings while HTC gives you the choice...this is the settings menu from a much older device, new one has exposure added plus the gallery allows you to adjust contrast including an auto mode
i guess we should all nag so that in their next phone they remove this functionality and lock down the camera app into three buttons like the iphone: video, still, HDR
in fact why don't we just all go and buy iPhones!
look at the sackboy head and the white/black photo in the background and the painting and the left side of the image, how much detail is resolved in dark areas! thats what f2.0 is all about, more dynamic range!
guys mark my words, this is the same Sony Exmor sensor on the iPhone 4s, f2.0 variant + HTC Imagechip, the images are absurdly close

Lol Blunt.
I installed the newer Motorola camera from my Droid Mini onto the M. Everything seems to work for the most part, except the screen gets jumpy and glitchy when scrolling the settings wheel. It takes photos much faster. It was taking several seconds to take a photo with the original camera, so the newer Moto camera is a huge improvement in that regard. I don't know if the image quality is any better or worse, looked kind of bad to me, but I thought the photos looked kind of bad with the original camera ever since KK anyway. Might just be because indoors and not enough light though.

The Razr M's camera/sensor is terrible. My pictures come out foggy, grainy, and ever since KitKat...pinkish. Using Moto's new camera or Google's camera, my pictures don't come out with the pinkish hue, but there still terrible. My Galaxy Nexus takes better photos, and that camera sucks... bad.
Not as good as my iPhone 4S or Droid Mini. I just took a few indoor pics and they look out-of-focus and grainy. I don't know if they would look better with the stock camera since the new Moto camera replaces the stock camera app so I can't try both easily. Stock camera was just too damn slow to be useful. Moment is gone before it takes the pic. I feel like once upon a Jellybean, the phone used to take decent pics, and stock camera wasn't nearly as slow. I have a few pics that came out pretty decent that I was sure were taken on the M long ago, on JB. Granted, they were all outdoor pics.
I think even on KK, the pics it takes might be better than the Kyocera Hydro Elite I had (surprisingly bad for 8MP) and way better pics than the LG Lucid 2 which had the worst 5MP camera considering its speed/performance level was close to the RAZR M. Usually you only see cameras as bad as the Lucid 2's on cheap plastic single-core prepaid phones that come in blister packs.
thank u all very much i pressed it
Well after bith of your opinions and the revuews i read i think i will be looking else were for a phone fot work i need a cheap phone with a decent camera oh well thinking aout a used s3 or a used 4s thanks again guys if i could just strech for a used droid dna hope to see you all in anither forum
Hmmm, well, I guess the pics are not TOO awful.
Took a couple pics of my car with the newer Moto camera (don't make fun, it's an antique, lol). One in the morning, one in the afternoon. I think old camera probably took better pics, but was unbearably slow and the newer one takes pics instantly. I had HDR and spot focus turned off.

Share your photos here in this thread! We all know the camera is the weak link of this phone. However it is capable of taking good images if you ignore the absence of sharpness or accept the heavy noise reduction. Behind all of that are images that generally are well exposed with good dynamic range and natural colors.
I'll start. All photos shared here directly from camera without any kind of editing to give a fair picture of the phone (no pun intended).

Thank you very much! Yeah images get noisy but colors seems to be just fine so I can live with it. The subjects are what matter anyway not sharpness or something although it's a bonus. But it doesn't make a photo "better". It's pretty fun to shot with this camera it's very responsive.

I am currently using Arnova 8.1 port and it works flawlessly.
Truth be told I have used its portrait mode on a baby and the results are magnificent.
Imho, the MIUI camera is rubbish compared to what gcam gets from the sensor.
