After Update Lumina keeps launching search/voice search - Nokia Lumia 900

Hey,
Is anyone else having a issue where your phone keeps launching search Or voice search since after the update. Its not all the time but it is alot.
I am not accidentally hitting the key either :[. I guess it could just be a bad unit but is anyone else seeing this?

Same problem here....have not updated yet....seems to me like a hardware issue....mine mostly does in landscape mode...

Its worse in landscape, think I should exchange it?

ive swapped my phone and both of them have done it, i think it's a software problem. it only happens when i'm doing a lot of things at once (like listening to music and playing a game)
hopefully it can be patched. it's been happening less frequently after the first update already

Honestly hardware or software its making my phone almost unusable. I tried sending this message like 6 times from the 900 but search kept popping up :[ and forget trying to play a game. Personally it seems worse to me post update and I am unsure of its software or hardware.
I was trying to "show off" my first kinda flashy windows phone to my friend and it kept popping up. So I rebooted the phone and as soon as it got the lock screen it tried launching voice search again. :[ I already called amazon for a new replacement device but there but there back ordered 3 weeks :[
Does anyone have a Lumina 900 that lacks this issue?
Sent from my mwp6985 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

No problems with my pre-ordered L900. A couple times, the back button brought up open apps, but maybe a pressed the button too long, o the timeout needs some tweaking. TellMe popped up a couple times when I plugged/unplugged a pair of powered speakers while playing music, but my Surround did the same thing. So I think it is an OS issue. Avoid plugging/unplugging when music is playing solves that issue, at least for me.

This is going on all the time. I have a feeling I just have a bad one off. I really love the device I just wanted to see if it's something others were experiencing

My pre-update 900 was doing weird button things sometimes when listening to music, too. The home and back button functions were getting all messed up. Kinda tough to get out of the voice-search when the back or home buttons don't work right. Not sure about my new phone--yet.
edit: There was a similar thread on wpcentral. I haven't seen any fresh related posts since the new firmware came out. So, maybe....

Well I have two friends that both have the phone and are not having these issues neither before nor after the update. Therefore they have been telling me it was hardware and not software. One of them had the issue with the Samsung focus and said that it was something moving around inside the phone pressing the buttons. This makes since but I gave my phone a pretty good shake and I can't hear anything moving around. I've also heard of people having a rattling noise when the phone vibrates. Maybe the issues could be related but this is all hypothetical. I don't what it is......
Sent from my Lumia 900 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Honestly I have been searching around the WPcentral forums and I am not the only one with this so it could be hardware/software who knows but odds are a new device will cause me not to have it as an issue since it seems not wide spread.
For the records my phone has no damage and does not make any rattling noises.

I had the same problem, the BACK and Windows buttons are randomly pressed. It is a hardware problem (my Samsung Captivate has this same issue and my friend's Samsung Focus has the same issue), oversensitive capacitive buttons. It is not caused by stuff sliding around.
Will exchange the phone to see if the new ones any better.

yep same thing happening here...it's annoying...but also my phone froze today too while on 4G connection..first time after the update

Same issue here
Mine was doing it worse before update but still occurs post just not as frequent...also getting hang UPS when opening apps....like Zune music player ....games etc...press back button as light and quick as possible and multitask pops up to switch apps...sometimes voice search pops up without ever pressing or being near windows button...

I was trying to watch game of thrones on my phone last night in bed lol since I have such a nice screen as opposed to my VZW Trophy (ye old faithful) and it kept doing it so much I powered back on my PC and droped the video on my VZW trophy instead to watch it.
Its so annoying because otherwise the phone is perfect

Are you sure the buttons are actually doing this, or could it be a reaction to a page dropping?
Remember, in WP, when a page or app has a problem, it simply drops and reverts back to the home screen. I think this is expected action. So, I wonder, what apps are you using when this action occurs?

These button issues are hardware defects (oversensitive capacitive buttons). Go exchange for a new phone while you can (within 30-day of purchase). Otherwise, you will have to settle with refurbs from warranty service.
for alodar1,
When it happens (usually when you are on an app for a long time, e.g. watch a video or play a game), it does not drop back to home screen, but rather perform what those buttons are supposed to do, for me, it could be task switch (BACK button is pressed and hold), Voice command (Home button is pressed and hold) or Bing search (Search button is pressed and hold).

I've had it happen only once, yesterday, while listening to music. As soon as I plugged in my headphones it did it. Soft reset & nothing since. This happened to me AFTER the update, not before. But also I've only used my headphones with this phone that once.

Nokia Rep. says return for replacement
After a horrible 2 phone calls with Nokia phone rep. I was instructed to return my phone for a replacement device...but not before being told it was a normal operating feature!!!!Mine seems to get worse the longer I stay in a game or app. rebooting seems to help for a while also.

I have the same problem.
Voice search seems to launch without my pressing anything, or even just by pressing the windows key once. Once in voice search, you cannot exit using any keys. you have to say 'cancel'. And sometimes it actually searches for 'cancel' on the web :/
I am also having with the back button. Clicking it once goes into the multi-task/app view.
A problem I noticed today was that while in a call, the Bing search page would come up. I assume i am hitting the search key, but i do not 'feel' it being pressed, vibrate.

Now that NoDo is on my phone...

Now that NoDo is on my phone (thanks everyone!) I now get a chance to use it with my Focus. The first few moments wasn't too promising. The tiles were very unresponsive and the phone ended up rebooting on me. I've never had that happen before. Since then it hasn't done that, but the phone has been slow responding at times. I do need to reboot my phone as often as I did before though. That's probably a Samsung thing.
I haven't seen any real speed increase as a lot of people had been reporting. I guess the Focus was fast enough for me previously that it's just business as usual.
Periodically music still doesn't play out of the speaker after I pull out the headphone while the music is still playing. That was happening before the update and all I need to do is reboot the phone to get the speaker working again.
Unbelieveably, the cut and paste feature gets in the way when writing messages and I need to go back to a certain point. The entire word highlights when I just want the cursor there to start typing. Oh well, better to have it than not.
Bluetooth is a little louder with my headset now, which I'm happy about.
Overall, I'm happy I got the patch since AT&T doesn't seem to want to roll it out, but I'm just not experiencing much more than I got before. Maybe the Marketplace is better, but again, I never really had problems before.
Resuming apps is about twice as fast, now... The first thing I did was start Messenger by Miyowa and "Home" out and then resume it, since it's normally rather slow to resume. The speed increase there is noticeable.
Music pauses when you put a headphone in, or pull it out. That's normal. It's to stop you from missing part of the music, or to stop the music from blasting at full volume if the headset gets mistakenly unplugged...
You didn't really give much information, but if you've been rebooting your phone because of that...
L.O.L.
The highlighting word is an issue that's always existed. It makes it almost impossible to perform quick edits quickly because in most cases it's faster to just type the entire work over again than just add in the letter you need to correct a misspelling.
Marketplace was always a problem app since the platform launched. Before I got hte update earlier, I had to reboot my phone twice because Market did it's free-crash-crash thing. Now that you mentioned it, I need to go download some stuff to see if it freezes/crashes or still have the issue where you have to constantly pause and resume downloads for them to complete...
Marketplace never crashed while downloading anything here, it freezes when browsing apps sometimes. I don't have NoDo installed and probably won't until a solid unlock mechanism is found and published. Just wonder if my Marketplace problem is different from yours.

This actually is not an issue.
Tap and hold on the word and you'll have a nice cursor displayed which you can place anywhere.
True, Marketplace crashes ONLY while browsing.
Whatever installing or upgrades I perform, it works always.

Ah, yes, I guess it is faster resuming apps. I didn't notice it. Thanks for bringing it up.
The music pausing is fine and I understand that, but there are times when the speaker doesn't play music after unplugging the headphones. That's when I reboot.
I've also had to reboot the phone because it would default back to the screen that we all saw when we first purchased our phones. After rebooting it goes back to seeing my settings. Also there were times when Zune kept saying that I needed to plug into my PC even though it was just plugged in. After rebooting Zune worked fine.
Also, keep in mind that as far as WP7 goes, Samsung devices are problem devices.
There's a reason why AT&T is taking their time testing updates. They were the ones who had to pony up tons of cash when the first one bricked a lot of phones because of the firmware Samsung put on thoes phones. After that episode you can't really blame AT&T for taking their time. There were similar issues on Android phones as well (JI6 for the Vibrant, and some Galaxy S updates in Canada were frying Storage cards in the phone, etc.).
I never said Marketplace crashed while downloading apps, I said the download constantly froze. As in, it would get to 10% and free, then when you paused and resumed it would go to 20% and freeze, etc. all the way up to 100%. It did it a LOT. While browsing apps it would crash frequently, yes, that or freeze up on you.
I did not have my market place crashed after NoDo. It crash a lot before update.
Also I doubt the Samsung blame. All manufacture made some buggy firmwares, most SGS firmwares don't have problems. Just recall the Google firmware that send your message to some random person. If it's Samsung's issue, why Surround and Quantum's updates are also being hold.
After updating my Focus is in general faster. The tiles are responsive as before, loading time slightly improved. I don't have the problems stated in OP.

I'm pretty sure you are the only one who read my statement as stating it's been crashing since the NoDo update...
And the AT&T Firmwares are being held because AT&T had to pay for the Focus debacle. It's all on the same carrier. They will make sure they test the **** out of every phone they have to make sure the incident does not repeat itself.
Samsung's track record speaks for itself - and that is quite OS-agnostic as well...

I certainly can't be the only one that's been experiencing the headphone/speaker problem or the OS reverting back to default. It's possible that nobody else has spoken up about it. Either way it's annoying but certainly not a show stopper.
It was a bit embarrassing last night as I was playing some music through my headphones and I wanted my wife to listen to it. She LOVES the Windows 7 interface and is envious of it. She has an iPhone 3 and thinks the interface is cluttered. I stopped the music, pulled the headphone out, pressed play and the time elapse and progress bar were moving but no sound. This was right after she said she had "phone envy." I had to reboot the phone. I think she lost a little bit of envy after that.

AT&T didn't pony up any cash for bricked phones... Don't give them credit for pushing out the pre-update.. update before anyone else.. They have not released any updates for their WP7 phones yet. But are expected to release in couple weeks.
Doesn't matter, I was talking about the other carriers but since AT&T has the Focus here I tend to just write their name in there. After that debacle no one can blame them for holding back to update. To get mad at AT&T for being supercaution about an update that was bricking a phone they carry is illogical.
Well, ran into another instance where I had to reboot. Tried to make a call using the voice activation and the phone responded with, and I paraphrase, "eh, sonny? Speak up, I can't hear you!" So I tried again and it said "EH?" Rebooted the phone and suddenly it had a hearing aid and it worked perfectly. Whether it's a Samsung Focus bug or not it still exists.
I certainly never encountered anything like that. And Marketplace always downloads everything just fine.
OP your phone seems to give more trouble than usual. Have you considered taking it in to at&t? Go to the store and reproduce the speaker problems and let them exchange the phone for you.
Post nodi, market place no longer crashes period

I got the NEW & UPDATED Lumia 900(Green Dot) Here's what I found different. Good Job!

I got the NEW & UPDATED Lumia 900(Green Dot) Here's what I found different. Good Job!
Just got home with the updated Lumia 900. They are identified by a green dot sticker on the IMEI label of the At&t box. Let me say right off the bat, the " Memory Management " issue in my humble opinion affected more then the connection issues; or I had defective hardware with my first Lumia 900.
1. The touch response is now equal to that of my Samsung Focus. One to two thumb swipes gets me top to bottom of the home screen. THANK YOU!!!
2. My WiFi will auto connect once I reenter a WiFi area I had accessed before with out me hitting " Connect"
3. Camera wakes phone up from sleep every time. It also wakes up faster then it did before.
4. When I have several apps open and I uses the back button to get back to the home screen, the phone no longer hangs on any one page, it simple flies through each till arriving at the home page.
5. The boot up time and shut down time of the phone has increase dramatically.
6. The response of the back button its self is better in general.
7. Looks like more web pages have been added to the stock favorites, Support pages via Nokia and AT&t.
8. None of the Version numbers changed, i.e OS, Firmware, Hardware, Radio Software, Bootloader, Chip SOC.
I'll post here if I find other differences. They told me at the store more then once the update is coming out on Monday, the 16th.
Had you previously purchased the other version, then traded it in for the one you have now? I assume you did, but wanted to see what hassle if any they gave you? What did you have to do to swap out?
Hey!!! Thanks for reporting!!

Boot up and shut down time has increased or decreased?
i don't know how much faster the bootup time can be, it doesn't even have time to cycle through the windows dots once before it's at my lock screen.
that being said, good to hear they have improved the device

LOOKS like the UPdate is live in Zune right now. I got it about 10 minutes ago.
Everything as Seek said...appears to be so....
There was no hassle, but they tell you they can't exchange it again. That said I'm unfortunately going to write Nokia. My original phone that I returned today had a speaker issue or I wouldn't have returned it in the first place. The replacement that had all the wonderful improvements had one major flaw, the vibration mode on it didn't just vibrate, it made an awful metallic/knocking sound. I had it home for 20 minutes and took it back, knowing they couldn't exchange it again. After about an hour and all the employees confirming the defect I was granted a 3rd exchange. This time before even leaving the store I activated the Nokia Diagnostics App and tried the vibrate mode, and in my opinion it was even worse then then one I returned. I however exhausted the patience of the staff member who helped me, and he was a great guy. I expressed that I thought it sounded worse then the other, and he explained that they had no other stock, and made me feel like they couldn't help me any further.
*** While typing this I just received a message that there is an update available for my phone. I have a green dot on my box and was told this phone was already updated***
Updating my phone now.
i updated as well, and still notice the lag, the back button as well, still unresponsive at times. even after hard reset. i'll be going to att in the morning to see if i can swap it out.
out of curiosity, what is the country of manufacture of your new phone?
Still Korea, my guess is they just tested phones at the at&t distribution point put a green sticker on them, and shipped them to stores. I ended up getting another replacement from a different store, with no hassle at all. It was a green dot box too, and it to was offered and received an update. I have used 4 different NL900's in the last 18 hours and I think my original one must of had a faulty digitizer. My original NL900 was so so to swipe, all that followed it I'm able to swipe my full home page in 2 thumb strokes.
I didn't have the connection issue, but did update my phone last night. The scrolling has improve and is faster now. Everthing seems to run fast and smooth.
Only thing is the camera button still doesn't wake the phone up at times but that is the same with my samsung focus s...hit and miss...last is the volume button...it seems that your not able to adjust the volume when the screen goes off even with the music playing in the background.
IF you have concern please dial ##634# and run test. This will put your mind at rest because you will be able to test each part of the phone out. Remember you can still return the phone and get a new one, if the test fail.
I'm hoping Tango release will fix all these minor bugs...
I noticed that volume can be changed with the lock screen on if its through an app, i.e. WPFandora, MixTapes, 8Tracks but not through Zune. I know it works with headphones, but not all headphones have controls on them. That said my crappy headphones sound way better connected to the Nokia then my Focus.

First stage or second stage of the camera button? You have to press it all the way down, first stage won't unlock the phone.
I'm not sure that the green dot means they've updated. I just picked on up yesterday that has the green dot and I was prompted to install the update within 2 hours of receiving it.

they had said that not all phones were impacted by the problem. Perhaps they had a way to differentiate them. Hence the marker.
Green sticker simply means it was re-checked for hardware and software issues. The connections issue seemed to be the APN setting being wrong. Who ever check the hardware failed though. On my forth Lumia 900 and only my first one had a good working vibra unit. These other ones sound like metal clanking/rattle when they vibe. Nokia is supposed to call me today at 230 pm to discuss the camera issue, and the volume buttons not working with lock screen, and the vibra units sounding defective.

Weird Annoying Typing Issue

Is anybody getting this weird issue when they're typing: The keyboard all of a sudden just goes away on it's own after 2 or 3 keystrokes. It happens a lot when I use the Bing Search function. I'll get two or three letters down then the keyboard abruptly goes away. So I have to get two or three key presses in each time I restart the process.
Anybody know what could be causing this? It's not just limited to my Bing Search, I literally got so frustrated trying to start this thread through my phone's browser that I had to dig out the laptop instead.
And this is happening on a Lumia 900?

the symptoms are those of the disappearing keyboard issue with mango. Its supposedly fixed in this release of mango. However several people have reported seeing it.
I suggest you report it to Nokia at the web site. You won't be able to fix it on your own.

Ok, I didn't know if it was a symptom of Mango or the Lumia. It's just so weird when it happens, I notice it when I'm low on battery more often, but idk what sort of relevance that would have. Thanks for the tip though.
Yeah, I get it quite often on my Lumia 900. Also my Radar still has it happen occasionally, my girlfriends Radar has it happen more than mine. All updated as well.

Are you sure you're not accidently rubbing you hand/finger on the back button? The back button, since it's universal, will remove the keyboard if it's on screen. And because Back, Home and Search button all use capative touch instead of having to push them, simply rubbing or bumping them will cause them to activate.
I had this problem when I first got my Lumia, but I've adjusted and adapted.

For me, definitely not. I've tested it many times on my Lumia and my Focus. It's definitely something to do with the keyboard deactivating itself. It happens to me a lot if I try to share an article I read in WP7 News app and go to email. When I try to type my name in the TO: field, I get one or two letters, then it goes away and I end up clicking/typing in the message body.
It seems like if I give it a moment to rest, then start typing, it's less likely to do it, but that's a little annoying, since I want to check my stuff and get on with things. Not a huge issue, mind you, but annoying none the less.
No, im not accidentally touching the back buttons.I'll ask my girlfriend if she's having the same problem, but it's gotta be a software issue from what I'm hearing now.

It seems like if I give it a moment to rest, then start typing, it's less likely to do it, but that's a little annoying, since I want to check my stuff and get on with things. Not a huge issue, mind you, but annoying none the less.

Huh, this doesn't happen to me though. Guess it's only effecting certian modles... Nonetheless, this kind of defeats their whole add campaign (Smartphone beta test is over)

Ok, I didn't know if it was a symptom of Mango or the Lumia. It's just so weird when it happens, I notice it when I'm low on battery more often, but idk what sort of relevance that would have. Thanks for the tip though.

at&t has not rolled the fix out yet, but the lumia supposedly has it. Other carriers that rolled out the fix, still report some problems, though not nearly as widespread. AT&T says they will roll out the fix around the tango release timeframe..i think it needs more work.
Mine is doing it now after updating to the latest software, this sucks! I hope they fix it asap, very annoying when composing text and the keyboard disappear!

I have actually noticed this problem less and less as the weeks have gone on. It's not so much that I'm getting used to it, cause I notice when it does happen, I think it was just a weird thing. I haven't had a problem personally since the update either.
Hi,
I don't have this issue on my 900 nor does my wife see it on hers. That said, let me offer what I know about the keyboard disappearing from previous hardware/builds.
When I had this issue on earlier hardware (Focus/Focus S) it was caused by apps set to run in the background. When an app is set to run in the background, the app would shift focus away from the current user task for a split second, and if you have the keyboard out the keyboard thinks you've switched to a different task and it closes. The way I worked around it was to disable background tasking for all my apps (settings -> applications -> background tasks. Note that when an app updates itself, it will reset this background task setting so you have to reset it. I never saw this problem again after I updated my Focus S to 8107. Still, it might not hurt as a troubleshooting step to disable background tasks and see if the problem reappears.

so far, i've not encounter this issue with my phone yet, but seems to be affecting mango version only, coz mine is already on tango....

Sticky/Unresponsive Buttons - Are you affected?

I personally have the very annoying issue with my L900 where the buttons sometimes "push themselves" then become unresponsive. Does anybody else have this issue? Can it be fixed?
I've never had them push themselves, but they are definitely less responsive than my HD7... At least that's what it seems like until I actually see precisely where my finger/thumb is pressing.. If it's not dead on the center of the "button" then it won't recognize it as a press.. So I don't think it's that they're unresponsive, I just think that on the Lumia 900 they made the area around the buttons less sensitive to prevent accidental key pressing that tons of WP7 users have complained about. Accidentally hitting search when handing your phone to somebody to look at a picture or whatever...
But like I said, mine don't press themselves --- I'd arrange to have your phone serviced...
Have you tried going into Diagnostics and testing your buttons functionality repeatedly to test responsiveness and see where they like to be pressed.

I frequently have the problem where the buttons become unresponsive. Then when you press the back button, it 'sticks' and brings up the multitask screen. I've seen this reported elsewhere on the forum.
I was also having trouble with this. After searching the WPCentral and Nokia Support forums I found that it has to do with the speaker. I didn't believe it at first but you can replicate the problems 90% of the time.
Do this:
Play a game on max volume for about 5 minutes.
Try exiting using the back button or the Windows button. 90% of the time it will "stick."
Now play a game again on max volume, but with headphones.
When you try and exit, it will work 100% of the time.
Also if the buttons are sticking you can plug something (anything) into the headphone jack and they will work again. The rumor is that the speaker interferes with the buttons. Sometimes I have them activate all by themselves, which can be annoying when streaming video. Some people have reported the only option is to take your phone back to the store and get a new one. But the odds of getting a good one are slim.
I almost never play games, and don't listen to music often. And my Back button does occasionally bring up the multi-task view. Probably about 1 in 10 presses. Rather than sticking I attribute it to a timing issue, where the device has a problem discerning between a long/short press. Might have to do with how much work the processor is doing at the time or how much memory is being accessed. Not sure.

Actually, a lot of people have this problem with unresponsive buttons. Nokia is ignoring everyone with this issue.

Never had this, even though I play games (but with sound turned off) and listen to music a lot...

Actually, I don't think Nokia is ignoring anything. They can't afford to. What I do think is this is an intermittent problem, possibly associated with certain 3rd party apps or settings. Once they can pinpoint the issue it will be corrected.
I lived through a disappearing keyboard that Microsoft took more than 3 months to correct and AT&T still has not had the decency to push out the appropriate update (I did a forced update on my Surround in March). That issue drove me nuts, and kept me from typing replies like this one. On a bug scale of 1-10, that was an 8. The occasional Back button glitch, is more like a 2-3. I can live with it till Nokia pins it down.

The Back button "sticking" happens to me every time I send a text message. So for me that is about 15-20 times a day. I don't play many games anymore because the buttons activate themselves too often to enjoy it.
I think Nokia is trying to ignore this problem. If you look on their forums you'll see someone was told, "Our engineers can't replicate the problem." It's something that I can replicate 99% of the time. You hear a lot about the Blue screen at low light but I haven't read one news story about this. Maybe it's time we put pressure on Nokia.

It's probably a hardware issue and they don't want to replace those with new phones. Not good for Nokia.

If you go into the Diagnostics menu, you can test those capacitive buttons 100 times, like I did, and they will perform perfectly. Got the same results when I tested the camera button (yes, another 100 times). Despite that, the capacitive buttons do occasionally register a long press. That's a software glitch.

Ok, whatever. So I guess it's a Nokia conspiracy to cover up a bug so they don't have to send out another $100 to everyone. Btw, I do write 10-12 texts per day and have a terrible (WindowsMobile) habit of always backing out of everything, even though in testing I found it has zero effect on battery life. I do not recall ever having the multi-view screen popup or the Back button being unresponsive when exiting the Messaging app. So maybe its a software glitch (capacitive button are software controlled-hence capacitive) on your phone. Have you tried a hard reset? It can work wonders.

same issue here. But it feels like a software issue. i did some experiment and come into conclusion that this wont happen when you playing video on 3rd party apps e.g., Metrotube, Netflix.
Did anyone try this way?
hopfully, Nokia can address the issue soon.

I went to AT&T to get a replacement because the capacitive buttons don't respond that good during an audio playing through the speaker. I showed the AT&T rep the issue and he called to get me a replacement device. He was using a black Lumia 900. The brand new phone came in. The capacitive buttons always work now. Definitely a hardware issue. Volume buttons work when locked. Camera button works 50% of the time. The Tango update should fix the camera button as it is confirmed by couple people.
What do you mean by "camera button works 50% of the time"? Works where? Do you mean launching the camera when the phone is locked by a long press on the camera button?

I have that problem too, but it will only work if I have no apps running and I have the pin disabled.
As far as the "sticking" buttons, I can't say that 3rd party apps are any better. IE and Surfcube 3d were both having the same problem watching videos. Youtube videos seem to play fine but Nokia Trailers never work. All games fail miserably, even simple ones like Minesweeper.

Ok, so is the new phone running the exact same firmware as the old phone? Did you ever try a hard reset on the old phone, and then not load any apps during the test period?
And the Tango update won't fix anything. The Nokia firmware update, that is supposed to to be attached to the AT&T Mango update, with though.

I meant the Tango update that comes with the firmware update if you flash it using Nokia Care suite. New phone is running the latest firmware from Zune with Mango. Not the latest Tango update yet. I don't really want to wipe my device again. Nokia is ignoring this issue maybe because there is no fix for it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Is your new phone running the same firmware as your old phone, or a newer version?
Did you ever try a hard reset on your "old phone", without loading any third party apps during a 24-48hour test period to see if the capacitive button issue went away?
I am always puzzled by users who are reluctant to hard reset their phones, but have no problems exchanging their phone, which is in effect a hard reset. If it's not, it should be a requirement 24 hours prior to any exchange.

Bugs on stock AT&T firmware (4.1.1)

I searched the AT&T Galaxy S III General forum and saw no other posts similar. Essentially, I was wondering if anyone had experienced other bugs in the stock firmware. I am not rooted and have not modified my phone's software from stock.
There are two bugs I currently have seen. One I can and will provide screenshots of. This is where during the lockscreen the formatting will be incorrect, such that the last number on the time will be small and the charging text appears on the same line. Also note that the lockscreen shortcuts at the bottom are spaced oddly. I always have five icons, yet sometimes only 3 or 4 show spaced unevenly. I can reproduce this by watching Netflix and while a video is playing, I lock the screen. When I first unlock it, this will happen. This will fix itself if I relock the screen and wake the device again.
The second bug is in the messaging app. Sometimes when my device falls asleep by itself while I have the keyboard up and active on a thread, and I wake it, the keyboard is unusable. I can click on the message block to bring up the keyboard, but all of my keystrokes are not entered into the message block. I have to back out of the keyboard and thread, to the thread list, then go back to the thread. My previous keystrokes are still not showing, but the keyboard will then work.
Anyone else noticed any bugs?
I'm fine on my phone

I've had the second bug happen with the keyboard maybe a handful of times since I got the phone but definitely not a regular occurrence.
I wouldnt worry too much about it but if it bothers you that bad just try a factory reset.

I've only experienced this issue that you describe. I've gotten used to it, so I'm now indifferent towards it.
I've had issues with the battery life however and how the actual "percentage" is being reported, but I think that it's just Jelly Bean that is causing the issue when my device is restored to stock setup as opposed to running ICS. Sometimes, my phone gets really warm overnight (and I can assure you that nothing is running in the background). Looking at the battery graph, I see a sharp drop within the space of about 20 minutes. This causes the back cover of my phone to be discolored. My i747 is only 5 weeks old and I'm the original owner.
phone minimizes
I have an issue where my phone screen turns off when I'm it for a while (typically at work I use a wired headset). When I wake the phone up and swipe on the lock screen, the phone shows the phone "app" for a second then it jumps to the home screen (as if I hit the home button). Typically I'm unlocking the phone so I can either hit a number on the phone (like, press 1 for English) or I'm wanting to hang up. So I have to go back into the phone application to do either task.
ICS didn't do that to me.
Me and a few others have experienced a bug where the external sd unmounts itself at random. Mostly when the screen goes to sleep. For one freezing the MTP application with tibu solved his sd problem but by doing that you cant mount your phone to a pc. As far me nothing has helped yet. My external sd just unmounts at random and I have to remove it and put it back several times to get it to work again and sometimes and I have to format it in the pc to get it to work again. This has happened to a a lot of tmobile users. I never noticed this problem on ics so im assuming its a jb problem. Its not a micro sd card being bad because it does it with my other cards to and one is a very expensive Samsung card..

I think this has happened to me once or twice. But I guess with the scarcity it's happened I thought I was bumping the back button or home button with my face, i.e. a failure of the proximity sensor to correctly detect my face.
I just started noticing the Keyboard Messaging bug myself. Wasn't sure why it was happening.
I just remembered (or refreshed my memory since my phone just started doing it) that whether or not TalkBack is off or on, my phone needs to tell me which number screen I am whenever I slide my finger across the dots at the bottom of the home screen or the app drawer. Is this a different setting I am missing or is this another bug?
I have had the messaging bug occur a couple of times. No biggee to me considering it has only happened twice in a month's time. I have seen other phones with much more persistent and annoying bugs and by comparison, this is nothing.
no problems here... i like it a lot now

I'm not sure if this is the right place either, since this is generally non-rooted, although the topic doesn't specify that I suppose.
However, I would venture a guess that you may need to wipe your data and cache. Sounds like a default app issue to me.
If I use bluetooth headphones on my walk to work, then plug in wired headphones at work, the audio plays out of the speaker.
It's really annoying because it happens every morning (as it's too early for me to remember things like that) and blasts my podcasts to my coworkers. Removing the wired headphones and reinserting fixes the issue.

Actually, I've had a similar issue. I use Google Play Music (as a carry-over from my Nexus S). When the first song of the playlist would finish (using the headphone jack to play through my car stereo), the second song would start on the phone speaker.
It doesn't seem to happen anymore, but it did directly after the JellyBean update.
PIN Lock Instantly with power button
I am upset that the "Lock Instantly with Power Key" option missing from 4.1.1. I have been searching for a fix, but I must be the only one annoyed by this, or I'm bad at searching.
...
I have a pin lock but am used to a 15 min delay before I need to enter the pin, and being able to push power to shut the screen off at will. That is no longer an option as it always will lock to the PIN screen if the power button is pushed. It is very annoying to me.
Another bug is the Keyboard defaulting Samsung Keyboard on reboot. Every time I restart, I have to go back into settings to select Swiftkey.
