Hi!
I'm an owner of the HTC One X and I'm also a clean freak!
I noticed that the back marks really easily and the only way of cleaning it I have found so far is to use window cleaner, but I'm worried it will damage the material. Does anybody have any ideas?
Also, dust and dirt get into the gaps between the screen and the bezel, as well as inside the front facing camera. Once again, any ideas?
I'd be happy to hear any suggestions or any other troubles people have had cleaning it.

I used some post-it notes and carefully cleaned out the dust. If anything gets stick in the speaker holes then you can use the sticky part of a post-it to remove it.
Don't go nuts though and really jam in the paper as you might get it stuck then tear it or you may push dust further into the phone.
There is a paper tape. It is very good suction dust >>> People still use it to suck the dust particles remaining on the screen before applying the protective sheet.
I think the measures are very good so you can remove dust in crevices on your device.

I have been using "Pledge clean and dust multi-surface Original" for a couple of years to clean my notebook including the screen and and other electronics including my mobile phones it works great, also it cheap to buy, just make sure you spay a small amount onto a cloth and not on the item to be cleaned.
It says it for metal, electronic, glass and wood on the can.

Can you please make some photos of the marks and tell how scratch prone is the phone.
I'm thinking if airbrushing some speckles into my white One X so that if it does get dirty, you wont be able to tell!!!

You could test it by spraying some on an old junk CD/DVD that you don't want. The One X case is polycarbonate and so are CDs/DVDs. The exact recipe of polycarbonate isn't going to be the same but if the cleaner damages the CD/DVD then it isn't going to be a good idea to try it on the One X.
for daily cleaning the DHD official case with microfiber internals is doing wonders
sadly a little bit of the phone remains out of it like 5-10%
I got the white one x and typically use just water and microfiber cloth. If water doesn't do the trick I use eye glass solution. Seems to work fine.

I have the white HTC One X, and I work building and fitting sheds and gates ( so a lot of dirt ). I picked up my phone after a days work and the back just got covered in dirt finger prints/smudges, and i know this sounds ridiculous, but the next day they were all gone and the phone was as clean as new... Thanks HTC for the self cleaning phone

The only time I have noticed it got dirty was the first time taking it into work, once it 'self cleaned' it has never had dirt smudges on it since ( not from memory anyway), strange I know, I'm not mad...
OP, Google a product called Cyber Clean. It's similar to silly puddy. You smear it on your phone. Once you remove the goo, it picks up most of the hard to reach dust particles. You can get it at most computer stores.

I was using some liquid eyeglass cleaner on my screen and some must have leaked in to the display. A dark grey blob started from the left of the display and gradually began moving toward the center, shrinking as it made its way across the screen. It ended up disappearing overnight and there's no sign that it was ever there. Moral of the story? 1) Be careful with liquid cleaners and 2) the display's not entirely or well sealed.

I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there

Dont replace it as you have no other problems. Go to HTC repair center and just fix it. If you replace there may be a chance of getting more faultier one.

have to agree with that as well. but at the same time new batch of phones get send out so you never know. just go to HTC site and do a locator for your country my friend

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

oh really..seriously i wonder if you had a gap how would you feel about your perfect phone? everyone to their opinion. i can live with it no problem..but the fact knowing that it is there will bug the **** out of me hence why i am going through what i am right now

well i will see what they say tomorrow..if they replace it for me all is good..but if they do not and want to fix it ehh i kinda have to think twice being without my phone for a week
Ive heard that the one x was made in 2 different countrys taiwan and china... china being the worst built ones buttt I must have a really faulty dhd. I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

well that is what worries me about the whole damn thing..if it gets to hot to soon and in two months down the line the screen actually does fall out
TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Vacuum cleaner with a soft piece of cloth on the vacuum tube to avoid scratches.

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.

Mine doesn't get dirty as it has a case but if it does I just lick my finger and wipe it off...
a bit water to wet a soft cloth would do

i'm using a normal eraser and it works like with pencil! simply and fast!
I just wipe it with a moisturized cloth...and it's clean as new!
I take a wizz in a small glass and use that the amonia rocks for cleaning white plastic.
Use a case so I don't have to worry about cleaning the back but any exposed part of the body can be clean very easily by wipe it with my shirt,clean as new
I spilled spicy honey, soy & garlic marinade on mine and didn't realise til after I finished cooking and it wiped right off with a lightly moistened tissue lol
Have an awesome cover on so never need to clean
i usually just am able to wipe the back cover, recently i had some blue ink on it from a leaking pen.
it didnt wipe off....after a week though it eventually seemed to fade off (I still tried to wipe daily just with my finger)
Baby wipe or my leg usually lol!
I lick mine like a little kitten, on a regular basis.
Try Brasso Gadget Cleaner. Been using since my DHD and its wonderful stuff. Works well on the white

I work on the underground in London. I use the phone completely without a case and it gets extremely dirty. I use a multi surface kitchen spray. First applied to a soft kitchen tissue then onto the phone. C comes out like new every time.
Getting a case though as I dropped it in the changing rooms and scuffed the corners. But sorted that it with some emery paper and cutting compound.

It shouldn't need cleaning! I haven't cleaned mine once! Its only in my pocket or on a clean surface? But I guess fairy liquid or similar will clean it ok.
I tooke out my white one x from the case to clean it with a new glasses cloth cleaner, it was like new not a single mark on it. I cleaned it just be sure and now the hole mobile is two colured white and dirty white, it looks like the color has droped.

Ok, I provides my method but I never recommeding you to do the same with me..
This is how I cleaned it: rinse my hands with water, pour out a bit, hold my HOX, mop around with hands, wipe it off. (while water is most effective medium to clean thing, please make sure the quantity of the water will are not enough to spills in microUSB and ear jack holes)

I wouldn't use windex, if you must, then make sure its at least ammonia free. I'm not quite sure about the One X, but some phones have very thin layers of anti-glare/anti-fingerprint coatings applied on the screen, use of strong window cleaners can damage those layers.
I mostly use a wet micro fiber cloth and that does the job well, rarely even use soap. I suggest you start with just water and if it doesn't work, try with soap and finally move into special purpose cleaners if you must.
Rubbing alcohol will work. Wet a microfiber cloth and squeeze out excess fluid, then wipe down the device.
Fussy with your phones..........I wonder if you guys are just as fussy with your cars/houses??? :laugh:

Somehow my younger nephew got hold of my phone and thought it would be funny to use a dirty rubber on the back of it. Luckily I caught him in the act just in time before he done more damage to it and now my phone has a medium sized patch thats quite dark and noticible. While its not a major problem its kinda spoilt the beautiful finish of the back of HOX. I tried using a damp cloth and scrubbing real hard to get rid of it but it didnt make the slightest difference. Is there any way I can get rid of it and bring it back to the normal look or am I stuck with this? Attached a photo to give you a better idea of what it looks like, it actually doesnt look that bad in the picture but trust me its alot worse.
Try a bit of CIF mate, I heard that works.

Tried both these suggestions, neither worked
I have no idea what can you do at this situation d ... I'd probably use a damp cloth but since it didn't work .... >.< Buy a case for it if you don't want the patch to be seen or , this might be nuts but use paint thinner LOL

What is dirty rubber? Was it something like one of those hard abrasive ink erasers? If it was one of those then most probably that area is worn off. Probably nothing much you can do except change the entire case, or you could try to rub the rest of the surface with the same thing to give it a uniform look . I did something similar with one of my old Siemens phones, it had a painted back which was fading away due to normal wear, so I took a very soft sandpaper and sanded away all the paint to give it a nice uniform matte black finish. It turned out pretty good considering how it looked before .

I'd try some lens cleaner spray and a lens cloth. It my be like the finger prints that become hard to get off. I lens cleaner has really helped me

Lens cleaner is generally just very pure Isopropyl alcohol
Nevermind guys i just decided to buy a case and use that lol.
Try hair spray. It's the best solvent...
Just a bit on a rag and wipe the back before it's getting dry.
Hello guys,i've had some scratches on my M8 lens and i watched videos where people got rid of this problem by using a toothpaste.I tried the same method but my camera went even worse than it used to be.... i currently don't have an other device to take a photo of it.Im wondering if i can solve the problem if i get rubbing alcohol and try to clean it all over again ? :crying: :crying:

Never try and fix a scratch its not paint it can't be fixed! so putting toothpase on your phone will only help ruin it further. if you have a silicon based toothpast then you just rubbed really fine sand into your camera. your best bet is to take a soft cloth and some diluted rubbing alcohol and try and clean it. good luck!

Hello! I actually did this to my M8 today, and it worked GREAT, removed all the small scratches and my pictures are no longer blurry or washed out! All pictures now are CRISP as they were when I first got my M8. You need to LIGHTLY apply toothpaste, and then use nail polish remover or I used rubbing alcohol to get the scratches off. The M8's had a coating on the lens from factory, I read somewhere this was anti reflective film, but am not sure if that's true or not. Anyways, if you use toothpaste and then alcohol, you will remove this layer of stuff and its the coating that is scratched most likely, not your actual lens. Follow this video here (again) and see if it works. I would NOT use toothpaste that has gritty/sand like texture, this may scratch the actual lens and damage it.

My Friend had a similar problem he sctrached his screen and his camera, and he used the same product he used to clean his car headlight lenses and surprisingly he actually did a decent job. Put it this way it was alot better than it was. I was really surprised.

You can Use "Displex" (~5$ on ebay) to fix it... Your camera will be like it was new!
I've done three m8 cameras with toothpaste. It just takes time. It gets worse as you rub then gets better because it's removing the coating.

Rubbish, yes you can, I have done it loads of times with metal polish such as brasso!
I have removed scratches from glass, plastic, LCD screens, phone camera lenses, watch lenses, all successfully with this method.

Look very closely, does it appear that the coating is just getting more scratched (which is the intent, for the toothpaste to abrade the coating and remove it) or the camera glass is actually getting scratched.
Similar to a previous response, my guess is that you are just scratching the anti-glare coating (not the glass) and actually need to rub it more.
Mine appeared to be just the coating being scratched. Used this method and it worked great. I still have to get some of the coating off at the edges but 95% of it is gone and my lens is clear of these scratches now. Plus it gives your phone that minty fresh feeling.
Anyone know if this lens is gorilla glass?

I read where one guy used a magic eraser (Mr Clean brand??) and he said that worked the best for him. I wonder if they "fixed" the issue with the coating on newer phones?? I have had mine for a few weeks now...always carry it in my pocket(s) and do not use any case and all three of my lenses have zero scratches on them?? I have been watching closely to make sure since I've read about all those having this issue on three different forums.

I bought my phone at the end of July so yours probably has the coating. I didn't notice the "scratches" until I wanted to take a picture the other day and I always wipe the lens with my shirt to get finger prints off after taking it out of my pocket. If the lens glass itself is gorilla glass I'm not too worried about it scratching in the future because I dedicate my pocket to my phone and nothing else goes in that pocket.

+1on the magic eraser it worked like a charm no need to use toothpaste all scratches gone. Just wet the magic eraser, squeeze the water out, lay phone screen on flat surface " soft magazine " with camera facing you, I would get a bright lamp to point and the surface you going to scrub the camera lens cover, and use magic eraser in a circular motion and you will see the coating come off. Hope this helps anybody who has the scratches.

I've done three m8 cameras with toothpaste. It just takes time. It gets worse as you rub then gets better because it's removing the coating.

I can confirm this works. Also a clean pencil eraser. It takes about 20mins though. I used toothpaste too, and freaked out when I saw how badly it got scratched. Tried the eraser method for around 5mins and figured my cam was screwed. The next day I started rubbing with the eraser and didn't stop. I had time and nothing to lose. Cleared everything right up except the extreme edges. DO IT!
