I have been reading around the forum and over at androidforums.com but am still confused on the process. So just to clairfy this for me, for the r800at do you have to unlock the bootloader to root. I have read you do and I have read you dont. I have tried superoneclick and doomlords zergrush script and neither work...so now im trying to figure out if it has to be unlocked or not. Thanks.
well I guess thats good to know that I dont have to unlock the boot loader to root, but like I said both superoneclick and doomlords zergrush script are not working for me. So I guess now I have to figure out why there not working.
superoneclick gets stuck on step #7 and doomlords goes through and when its trying to write/modify/mount stuff each thing says permission denied, then it says completed/phone reboots/still no root.
Are you sure you have the right drivers? And which firmware version are you using?
All our current root methods don't work on stock firmware newer than the .62 build.
I use flashtool to root mine. In the advanced menu there is root then force zergrush. Works great just make sure you have the drivers installed.

Im about 90% sure I have the right drivers installed, idk if there is a link to download the drivers if so someone could point me to them to make sure I have the correct ones. And im a little new to the way stuff is named in android sooo i have

Well i tried flash tools and this is what i got in the log:

Figured it out on my own!!! For any one else who may experience this problem it was easy.
1. Download flashtools
2. Download the .270 build http://www.mediafire.com/?s7vr35v675kqomx http://www.mediafire.com/?s7vr35v675kqomx
3. Flash the older build
4. Use flashtools to root
5. Update back to .285
I lied...when I updated back to .285 it lost root...guess ill be starting over!
Yeh currently there is no way to root .285 at least none that I have found.

Bootloader State: Locked
Rooted State: Not rooted
SuperOneClick Version: 2.3.3
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
SuperOneClick keeps crashing! Here is what I do:
1. Turn on USB debugging.
2. Plug phone into computer
3. Unmount micro SD.
4. Start SuperOneClick
5. Click 'ROOT'
Along the right side this is what I see:
* daemon not running. starting it no on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
and then it stops and says 'not responding' ?
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to do to prevent this? Is it because I'm running 64-bit?

Yea you should be able to do that no problem. Have you tried doomlord's root kit that should work for you instead of going all the way back to 2.3.2

I just updated my arc via PC companion software to .62 firmware.
I rooted it earlier by super one click method by DooMLorD from here.

using flash tool and a .42 FTF downgrade from .62 to .42 un check wipe cash and wipe user data and you save everything.
root using flashtool
do an OTA update to .62 and you remain root.
then and only then can you delete system apps you dont want. if you change the system aps befor the OTA update it will fail to update.

What needs to be done in the following ORDER
1 - Get yourself a firmware (whichever one you want) .42
1.1 - Connect your phone to your computer
2 - Using the application called Flashtool which be can be found on the forum (multiple threads) Flash the the rom. You will loose all your contacts, sms etc...
2.2 - Wait for the tool to tell you that it's done flashing
2.3 - Using ZergRush or Flashtool ROOT your phone.
3 - Start your phone and disconnect it from the PC
4 - Press the menu button and go to SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE - SOFTWARE UPDATE
5 - This will verify and push the OTA for .62 to your phone.
That's pretty much it in the simplest way possible.

I did it exactly step by step,

ok I did it but first I had flashed LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Generic Global HK because only after that I could upgrade withouth PC Companion.
thx for advice.
Yeah that was point 1. Which was to get yourself a firmware version .42... then yeah you can update via OTA...
I can't update .42 OTA it is possible only when i flash .58 first...

Question: How can I update via OTA? Is there a site like wotanserver or something? Or is OTA an app I can download somewhere?
I updated my WT19 with PC Companion, it has .62 firmware now, but I need root to delete system apps and clear space on internal memory.
Anyway I always update via wotanserver, because I can't find the .ftf I need to flash it via flashtool. And now I'm having problems with wotanserver, so where can I find those firmware files (ftf) ?? (for my model)

Thanks, ArcMan09. I have only rooted the Arc and have not installed any other firmware - it still has the existing manufacturer's firmware. I have also not unlocked the bootloader. Will it not accept an "official" update again ?
The updates do some checks on your current system, if it seems modified it will not update. Just do a restore in pcc it will install the latest version on your phone for you.

Just flash 4.1.A.0.562 ftf files with FlashTool.

There is no easy root method at the moment. If you want root then you will need to downgrade the kernel then root then update kernel.

The only easy way is an unlocked bootloader, other you'll either have to use the downgrade or wait for an exploit.

Step 2. Download the .562 kernel
Step 3. Flash .562 kernel and reboot phone
Step 4. Root using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
Step 5. Download the .431 kernel
Step 6. Flash .431 kernel and reboot phone
I don't see why you need to go check on the talk.sonymobile.com site as those very same instructions have been posted here.
You do realise that everything that happens there is just a rehash of what happens here at XDA. :cyclops:

Righto...just wondering why you need to download the whole ftf's when kernel flash would do...
Probably because they couldn't find the kernel alone. In that case, the only option would be to download the entire ftf.

Oh finally. Rooted it successfully. Thanks to you guys, especially fma965. I just noticed that there is an advanced tab in superoneclick. Clicked Check Drivers button and installed a missing driver for my xplay. Then, voila! After clicking root button, it proceeds and now my xplay is rooted.

What I would do is flash back but at first check if your fastboot is actually not working.
Turn off the device and check it, take out the battery and put it back in then hold search button and plug in usb if you have a blue light then fastboot is ok.
You also need Android ADB drivers which you need to have the Android SDK to get them or if you have flashtool there is a drivers folder which is the simplest method to install ADB bridge.
Then using flashtool (if it worked) flashed the DoomLord Kernel, if it says you have no permission to do so then you need to unlock your bootloader.

Luckily you have flashtool so you do not need the Android Sdk. There should be a drivers folder in your flashtool and an executable inside that will install like a normal program. This contains all the drivers you will ever need.
On every time it installs one it will prompt you to install or not install jusf click install and you will be asked this about 20 times for each driver.

If I remember correctly, the xperia play 4g was R800at and not R800x. Well anyway you have to download the firmware for your phone. Then place it in the firmware folder inside the flashtool folder. This should be the correct firmware for your phone. http://www.mediafire.com/?qqvtl484nlz3gq0 just place the ftf in the firmware folder. Start flashtool, click flash, then choose flashmode. Select the firmware. There should be instructions on how to plug in your phone and there it should flash.
