Someone finally got an InteropUnlock working for the Lumia 710 and 800. Since there didn't seem to a be a link to it in this forum, thought you guys might appreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587650
Could you link the two separate discussion?
The one into the General forum on Lumia 800 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599401
And the one on the tech forum for developing and research http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587650
Thanks.
This is really more than interop, it's more about custom ROM's. Interop is small potatoes compared to what is possible now with these devices.
For now these Rom have only the interop unlock, not the full

I made a test rom for lumia 800 , its a reworked tango rom with Full Unlock but I cant test it because I don't have a nokia.
remember this ís all at own risk

Hey everyone. I just bought my lumia today, and am normally an android dev, however I really like the looks of WP7 so I got this. I setup the ##lumia channel for regulars and ##lumia-dev for developers, on freenode if any devs want to join in.
Willing to help
Wish i had the skills to do what you guys do. But if you need any testers let me know Id be more than happy to see what we can really get out of these devices.
Android VS WP7.5 mango
Hey,
Noticed you said you are and android Dev and switching to the lumia 900... How has your experiance been so far? I myself am a big android user (also I am the founder of #Android on dalnet, more than welcome to join im looking for some devs as ops in the chan just msg me i go by the nick Burnt). I am currently using a T989 SGSII Hercules fully rooted with ICS 4.0.3. Ive been a pretty die hard android guy for years and have sworn by it. I recently Got my hands on a lumia and i must say i am VERY impressed with it. Very sleek, sttractive, and simple to use but i have had windows phones before and always got a bad taste after using them. So seeing a Dev switching up to a lumia 900 i HAVE to ask what are your feelings after switching? are you satisfied with wp7.5 and nokia lumia 900 in general??
I work for a distributor for h20, redpocket, and simple mobile so i was originaly considering picking up the lumia and popping in a h20 or redpocket sim and keeping it as an extra line but honestly i do not have any need to carry around 2phone withgiant touch screens plus i have android tablets (just overkill). so now i need to make a decision do i go to the "darkside" and switch to windows 7.5 mango or stay with what i know and love... Android
any feedback you have in regards to the OS and the lumia would be greatly appreciated. Also how has your experiance been with the data on the phone? have you used the lte yet? How is the market / apps availability on 7.5 mango (another big concern of mine... got to have a decent app selection)
Thanks!!
Short answer: I loved the Lumia 900, loved WP7. Turned it in for an SGS2-I777.
Long Answer (ie. Why I went back): I was talking with a few other devs on IRC one being Elite Recognized Dev jcase, about a way to go about cracking the OS for sideloading XAPS, registry editors, and the like. I was having a very hard time finding an exploit. Not a few days after purchasing the Lumia the xda blog posted about the death of the Chevron tokens. I became furious with microsoft for backing out on their word, and promptly decided a company that would do that didn't deserve my time and effort to make their platform better.
If you guys can get WIFI to stay on while sleep, it would be great!

I just had the time to fully read everything. Sad to see developers loose interest since Microsoft chose to keep everything closed. If there is anything an advanced user can help with, please let me know.
I'm expecting my Lumia 900 to arrive anytime this week.

I know it's off topic, but if you're interested, it isn't that hard. Rich Dunbar is a Nokia Developer Ambassador, which means if you tweet at him (if you use Twitter) he'll give you everything you need to get started, including a free developer account (most likely)

I love my lumia 900. The lumia is a very capable phone. BUT its held back. I believe this is our fault, when the iPhone hit the market, they made the platform conform to what the people wanted, we added functionality. WP7 has be more than under utilized, the core has been around for more than a decade, I can count the main developers who have made ANY progress in the WP7 unlocking field on no more than one hand. I look at the forum, its SAD, it's a sad angry wasteland that has done nothing, gone nowhere, and has no plans.
We have no direction. Any other platforms dev page is fast, exciting and interesting. Now that the end of the line has been announced, are we just going to let it happen, or are we going to go out with a bang?
This is just my rant. I'm just as angry at us as i am at Nokia or Microsoft.

In this situation, nope. Its replacement has been announced, its obsolescence has been announced. We are the last WP7.X dev team.

Completely agree with you. Honestly this forum is just Q&A/Troubleshooting for the 900. Even the 800 has a custom rom now, never mind the 710 (like 3 custom roms). We should at least be getting some kind of custom rom, even if it's just changing colors of the tiles or removing core apps.
The community will get its rightful push at the second there would be an Interop-unlock method available to the Lumia 900. Until that occur, this community is nothing more than (as mentioned above) a Q&A community, not different than any other Q&A community out there... Problem is, that I can't see any unlocking method being developed for the device...
Hi Folks,
Sorry if this thread is a duplicate. I couldn't find anything on web regarding jailbreaking Lumia 900. I'm really frustrated with W7 mobile OS. Like many of you I moved from apple/android just to try different. But now I'm feeling very bad about my decision and am stuck with this piece for another year. I was wondering if there is jailbreak software available. I just can't download and install anything on this phone. A simple change of theme or font is also restricted. Maybe I'm not aware of techniques which would help. Can someone please tell me how to install new themes, change look of the interface, make it more lively like android or IOS interface? Appeciate your response.
Thanks,
Rookie19
It is rooting, not jail breaking.

There is no way to get "root" on the Lumia 900 at the moment. Even then all you can really do is add new accent colors to tweak the UI. I don't think font's can be changed, and you certainly can't make it look more like iOS or Android.

Thanks for the response. Hope someone figures out rooting this mobile soon.
It may come, but with the 920 on the Horizon, I'd call it a safe bet that what little interest there seems to be in the dev community on the 900 (None.) will drop even lower.
Agreed ...

well it seems (base on what i have read) that the nokia's bootloader is way locked down. i bought a lumia 900 just to play around with it before the lumia 920 comes out. i was hoping to see some form of development for the 900 but that seems unlikely. which is really sad. i was hoping to learn from some development in the 900 so when i buy the 920 ill be ready. all this lack of development for the 900 (while some of the windows phone like the focus has lots of development. which one dev already cooked up a wp8 rom for) is making me think twice about jumping on the 920 bandwagon. good thing that pawnshop i bought the nokia lumia 900 from does 30days money back guarantee hehe.
i was debating between the 920 and the galaxy note 2. now im leaning more towards the note2. man i really wanted to get a nokia phone (my go to phone brand before the iphone came out).
on the side note: how the heck do you lower the keyboard keys volume down or at least turn them off. its starting to annoy me
edit: found how to turn off keys sound. anyway to just lower the volume in them?
It's under settings/ringtones+sounds.
untick Key Press
It's all about interest
I retired a Samsung Focus that I had a great, and very time consuming, time modifying and flashing. I think there are several things going on here. I believe the type of person who buys the Nokia Lumia 900, in general, has little interest in modifying beyond what the OS provides. In addition, the OS is getting better all the time and eliminating the need to modify. These are just general observations. I know several of you will come back and say, "Hey, I want to flash and modify". OK, great. Most people do not. I no longer have any desire to go beyond what new releases of the OS provides. Why the heck would anyone want to buy a WP7 device to mod it to look like the Android or IPhone OS????? That is absurd. If you want those OS's and UI's, buy them, but don't complain that WP7 won't let you make it look like those other UI's.
I have a Nokia 900 that has never had a reboot, freeze or slowdown in almost a year. I would NEVER go back to the days of custom ROMs and sideloaded XAPs and the slowdowns, feezes and random reboots that come along with the wild, wild west approach. No thank you to that mess. When I was into it I convinced myself I had to do it and it was fun. Now that I have WP7.5 and the Nokia 900, I know I was only fooling myself and I wasted hours a day.
I don't believe there is a chorus of users asking for this, nor developer interest in doing the work to find loophole to take advantage of.
Amen Brother!
Yes, interest
Hi James Allen, hi all
Sorry about my english, I'm from Spain.
In my opinion, you're full in right. If people whant's something else, why don't they by "this" something else.
I'm fully satisfy with my Lumia 900. It's smart, fast, and I did not see one error or bug in the hole month since I bought it.
OS Version 7.10.8779.8
Firmware Version 2175.2503.8779.12301
It just would be nice to could put my self-made xap on it (no third party) I'm programmer. As I red, that the Lumia would approve to run Silverlight-Applications, it was one point more, to get it. I'm working for a project in Silverlight/C# professionally and on my own I have developed many tools in several areas. It just would be nice to get them running on this little fine handy. But for trying and so, it's to much to pay $99 a year just to could put 10 Applications inside. And never know, if they will be something at the end.
Right this tools you named, I was trying last weekend to make them run (hours to find something, and then to see, it's impossible),
ChevronWP7 and WP7 Root Tools to unlock the phone and access the file system.
Like you, I spent mounths with stuff like that, Nokia, Samsung, Wii, Dreambox (I never liked the iPhone), and at the end it just was for waisting time. I never play with my Wii and when, only Mario (with the Game I bought), with the games in Samung Handy, I played about 2 days. and my Dreambox ist empty in a box, cause after bring it to work, when I watch TV, then just a Blu-ray or DVD, so I erased all and putted away. My friends look at me, as would I be an alien
But this time it's different, I want my phone to get running my applications but it seems I have to wait for a custom rom for a long time, or to make my tools get running on the sdk-emulator, and if it seems to be good, to pay this damn $99.
Anyway it was really interesting, to read what you wrote on friday.
If you have some information about to get running the "ChevronWP7" and/or the "WP7 Root Tools" on Lumia 900, every help is really welcome!
Till there is something, I first go on developping
Have a nice Sunday!

How's that possible? The Lumia 900 is only 6 months in the market...?
i know that the 710 and 800 have roms...but why does the 900not have one? can we install these roms on the 900? lol why would nokia make the 900 more locked down than the lower models?
thanks.
The bootloader hasn't been broken on the 900. So, there's no custom roms yet. Probably never will be.

The Lumia 920 and WP8 line is days away at this point. So the amount of people who would even bother doing any work on the 900 (which seems to be zero.) would drop even more.
I would like to see someone unlock the Lumia 900 but don't expect it to happen. First, there is no significant demand for it. Sure, a few people in this forum, but that's hardly worth the effort. Second, WP just gets better and better. I would think the demand to unlock for the Lumia 920 with WP8 will be even less. I used to unlock and flash constantly in WM6, lost all interest in WP7, and don't give it a thought in the upcoming WP8. The more the OS and UI meet users needs, the less the interest in unlocking and jailbreaking. I think the best approach to take is to not go with WP7 or 8 if you anticipate a need or desire to unlock. Don't even go down that road only to complain that the OS is so locked down. Of course it is, and there is little desire or incentive to unlock it.
+1

This is not windows phone 7.8!!!
This is a app for WP7.5 called "W Phone 8"!!!
You can try it, download the app in the windows phone market and try it!
Cheers
It's not an app. There's a video of it running at http://www.liveside.net/2012/11/05/windows-phone-7-8-shows-up-on-nokia-lumia-900-in-china/ and the build is 7.10.8847.619
It's definitely an early version of 7.8, likely beta. You can tell by the icons on the home screen. They are not all the correct sizes. But is proof that it's coming, because as far as I'm aware, there is NO way to flash a custom ROM to the 900.
