Display protective film

Hi i've found in Toch package one film with the same shape of display,someone know if this are spare part or is additional protection and should be placed?
Today my friend show me his Htc touch with this "film" placed and so is start discussion with him about the use destination.

It has to be placed as it is called a screen protector. Not using one would lower your PDA resell value has you will probably get scratch on your screen after a few weeks.
Be carefull when setting this up, as it need a very clean screen, and a dust (nearly) free environment. A bathroom after a hot shower is the perfect place to set this up.

Yes, it is a screen protector. It is a bit ticky to fix. To make it easy to align you may sprinkle some water on the adhesive side and apply to the screen and align. Gently press out thewater with a stiff paper and also to displace air pockets. If some water droplets still remain under the sheet do not bother. It will all dry out within 3 days and result in a clear bright screen.

I'll have mine by the end of the week.
I store mine in my pocket and it seems the protector would peel off from repeatedly taking it in and out of your pocket since the screen is flush.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Does anyone knows if these HTC protectors (not some cheap 'fits all' protector) can be bought seperately? I applied mine right after i've got my phone it but was a bit sloppy with all the excitement and when re-fitting it some dust got underneath it, leaving me small airbubbles. If anyone has a link to how/where, it'd be much appreciated.

you can remove it, wash with some soap and then apply it once again, no need to buy a new one.

The HTC ones can be removed, washed and re-applied too? Can someone confirm this, coz I only read this could be done with the better ones from expanys or something

so i went back to the the store asking if they can order the screen protectors for me the did not want to order it for, but i got one extra from there demo model, so my tip is.. go to shop and ask if they have spare protector from the demo model

Really want to know how good they are, they claim to be totally protective. I am a bit skeptical, any thoughts?

I have been very happy with these skins from Boxwave. Very easy to slip on when needed. Used these with my Trinity as well. I have not tried the ones with the cover. The Touch with skin is still smaller than the Trinity.

This is something similiar to what I post earlier, they warrant for the life of your device that you will never get a single scratch on it after you provide their full body protective film. Wouldn't this be cool, without the bulk of a case, yet, still achieve the same protection. If anyone have a chance, browse thru their site ,they have a video demonstration to show u the force thatf film able to withstand.

I personally don't like the front cover, the shiny effect doesn't look right in this phone (at least for me), the back cover is fine....
The installation is more or less easy, after some minutes the covers really stick to the phone, if you don't like the result you can remove very carefully the covers, wash them and repeat the process again

- Resistant (apparently).

man! are u really serious. i mean a bathroom and especially after a hot shower wud be the last place i wud attempt to do something like sticking a protective film on my PDA. i mean think a little science man. after a hot shower condensation [stage when the vapor above cools back to liquid] is surely a threat inside a bathroom, and while you try to stick the film, condensed vapor or mist to be precise might come in between your pda and the film. then all you will ever have is a smudged all white screen which you cant wipe off even, cos its between the layers.
so i m jus telling you cos i had seen a lot of incidents like this specially where hot vapor just cooled off is around!!!!!
No harm done! Just my scientific mind thinking a lot!!!!!!!

i did a post some days ago about shieldzone. i used the invisible shield for a couple of days and the only thing thats really terrible is the reflection of the cover, as you can see in the pix abough.
so i searched again for a good display protection and bought a product from 3M, named vikuiti, armr200. for me its the best i ever saw.

# 2 times Anti-Reflection Coating
and a very strong material.
i tried a lot to scratch the layer, but it was not possible.

I have the 3M Vikuiti, armr200 for my Fujitsu P1610. It works quite well, not totally clear like those crystal clear type films, so you will lose some contrast and clarity, but for anti-reflective, it's the best you can buy. (and it's quite pricey).
One bad thing is that it reduces outdoor visibility quite a bit, you'll need to crank your backlight for outdoor use.
And it still shows fingerprints, actually they are quite noticeable due to the AR layer, but it's much easier to clean than other AR coatings.
One thing though, unless 3M is going to make one specifically for the HTC Touch, it will be a PITA to cut to the proper shape, since the clear cover is not a rectangular shape.

I wouldn't worry about it, I've used the steamy shower "poor man's clean room" technique many times, never had an issue with condensation stuck under the film. If anything, any liquid will help to avoid air bubbles and can be squeegeed out. Some films (namely 3M's paint protection films) require liquid to install properly.

Naked case (vinyl and/or rubber battery cover) ??

OK - I've been using the ATT store Body Glove case since I bought the Captivate, which is ok but I don't really like the stripes on the back, and it is a bit too slippery for me.
I just ordered the Seidio case because it has more of a matte finish and I liked the felt interior. So I don't know if I like it or not.
A few minutes ago I took the phone out of it's case to dust it and clean out the case when I got a call. I was surprised at how slim the phone felt without it's Body Glove case on. I liked it. But I also found it a bit slippery. ( A speaker phone call was put on the arm of the chair I was in - with the case it would hold - without it slid away)
Now I am wondering if I should just use some skateboard tape or something similar on key areas to allow me to set it down and hold it comfortably (where it won't slip) instead of using a case. I don't use a screen protector and I don't think this phone needs it.
Any comments or suggestions?

Now that I've thought about it for a few minutes - I think what I want is a rubberized battery cover. That would be the bomb.

I don't use a case on mine and I've yet to get a single scratch on the front or back - the glass is very tough. I cringe at having to use a case, losing accuracy, clarity, and brightness on the screen and having to touch through that...having it hard to slip in and out of my pocket...not looking as nice. It's like if your wife made you use a condom every time.

just "paint" it with some Elmer's Rubber Cement. Im really kidding but I'm with you I like the feel of the phone and I hate the rubber case I got it makes it a pain to get in and out of the pocket. Personally I plan on selling this phone in a couple of months so I want it in good condition.

Agreed that the screen is fine on its own. But I still think the back needs some help.
Also, I do not like condoms. Neither do my wife and kids.

Ah, well I saw something a while back where someone basically took four little rubber/plastic stickers and put one on each corner of the back of the phone to lift the back up off whatever surface you set it on just a hair. I would imagine that you'd get good traction with that too - I can't seem to find the exact application of it though......

This thread is mostly me think out loud.
I believe that what I want is a rubberized battery cover.
The cover is slightly recessed - it is lower then the bottom locking section and the top section with the camera. It also wraps around the sides almost 1/2 of the way.
I think that if the battery cover were coated with a rubberized, non-slip material, it would be better. If the rubberization made the cover stick out slightly, rather than be recessed, it would allow the phone to be set on it's back and not slide away and keep the camera off the deck. Also, the wrap around side parts of the cover would help when holding the phone.
Now, can someone tell me of a place/process that might do this? (Not rubber cement but close) My pickup has a Rhino Lining coating that I love. There is a place nearby that does that work but the coating is like 1/8-1/4 inches and that is a bit to thick for the phone.
Any Ideas?

Found these

Bought this stuff at Home Depot.

Then tested in on this beer can. I didn't clean or prep the can, just picked it up off of the floor.
This is 5 coats. It is still thin. Dries fast and feels just about how I'd like it to. Not tacky - sort of a hard rubber feel. It is flexible, the can bends and the stuff stays with it.
It can be scratched, you may be able to see a scratch I made with my nail. It didn't go all the way through to the can though - and I had to scratch hard. It looks like it would be easy to spray another coat over any scuffs.
I plan to do the back of the battery cover - thick enough to make it a bit taller than the top and bottom sections of the phone. The way it is going it seem like that may take 15+ coats. I'll keep testing.

Two things about that though, the battery cover is used not only as the speaker output but the battery cover itself also dissipates a good amount of the heat that the phone generates. You probably want to be a more careful than usual in designing something that is going to smother this part of the phone.

not sure how much you're looking to spend but I put the Zagg total protection on mine. You get full protection on your phone but you can't see it, so you still get the sleek look and it's still very thin as well. The clear plastic is also great for gripping, I can set it on the dash of my car and drive normally and it won't budge.

Used it on my Nexus One and the fit was good, buddy got one for his vibrant and the fit is good as well.

Ok to finish up my saga...
I liked the faux leather on the cover mentioned in the post above so I went to the fabric store and ended up with some black, I believe they call it marbled vinyl. It looked and felt similar to the back of a blackberry I once held.
I tested it on my trusty Busch Light can with some 3M spray adhesive and it seemed to hold fairly well.
So I went for it. I taped off the inside and the prongs of the battery cover. Sprayed glue on the cover and the back of a piece of vinyl cut too big. Stuck it on and smoothed it out. I sat the cover on a bag of rice and and put a bag of brown sugar on top (to push around the curves) and topped it off with a gallon jug of tile grout.
Waited an hour, probably longer than needed, and used a pointy x-acto knife to trim off the excess. I had also put a piece of tape over the speaker holes so I cut that back open to. The underside of the vinyl has a white background so once it was trimmed to fit I went around the edges with a fine tipped sharpie, which blended well.
Overall I like it. It is just a bit thinker that the top and bottom bands, so if you lay her on her back those parts don't touch a flat table. It has a leathery, grippy feel without being tacky, which is what I was going for. I do already miss the front edge lip that the Body Golve provided but it is also almost it;s original thickness.

Go for it. Usually I prefer to buy a second of whatever I am defacing before I deface it but I didn't find any battery covers online. I also didn't look to hard.
It is still on and I still like it. The only thing I don't like too much are the sides. I completely covered the back, right up to the side edges. It is a perfect thickness on the back but feels too thick on the sides. I wish I could have found a thinner material that I could have built up on the back and tapered to one layer on the sides. I really wanted grippyness on the sides so, oh well, it's good enough.
I'm still on the look out for a better spray on rubber. I'll update if I find anything good.
Hopefully someone will start making aftermarket battery covers with some options.

From a phone on an app

I scrapped the vinyl. The edges were just bugging me to much. I still think a thinner material would work well though.
I cleaned up the cover - looked fine again with all the glue off of it.
I went back to the rubber spray. I've got about 8 coats on in the attached pic. Need to wait about 30 min in between coats. I'll keep going until I go to sleep, let it dry overnight - and test it out tomorrow.
ETA - put it on the phone the today. Love it. Doesn't add any bulk and provides a grippyness to the back and sides. I'll find out how durable it is.

Rubberized back cover for Atrix

So I've got to give credit to the fine folks over at the Nexus S forum for giving inspiring the idea. I am a fan of keeping my phone caseless but I'm also a fan of keeping the scratches away. I bought a can of plasti dip in black and sprayed the back cover of the phone. The inside I sprayed 3 coats and the outside I believe 5. I held the can away from the cover about 15 inches while spraying for an even coat. Let it dry 30 mins between coats and sit 4-5 hours when I was finished just as the can said. It turned out great as you can see and now has a scratch proof rubberized cover. The rubber simply peels off if I ever want to remove it.

Looks good, not a bad idea at all. You say you sprayed the inside of the cover as well? Wouldn't think you would need to bother with the inside, why did you cover the inside. Take care.

I sprayed the inside as well so it wouldn't start to peel on the edges. It fits just as snug as it did before despite being sprayed inside too. =) I did cover the hole for the speaker before spraying

How well does it slide in and out of your pocket? Is there any spray that would be more of a soft-touch rubber feel?

It slides in and out just fine. It's just grippy enough to not slide around on my seat as I'm driving. The best thing is if it gets annoying or I want to change it the stuff just simply peels off

i've used plastidip plenty of times on things, and i dont know about the durability of that over time. I use it on emblems on cars to black them out and stuff and small rock chips etc pull it off fairly easily. Plus the finish usually isnt too smooth. i'd rather spend 20 and get the feather case....i can peel that off too

Very cool idea! I decided just to wet sand the back cover to keep it looking like carbon fiber AND to make it a little easier to grip on to - pics are in the link on my signature.
I don't know if I agree with spraying the inside too just to get the edges uniform.... spraying the inside (and, well, the outside too I guess) will help trap in heat, something you don't want when charging a phone with a dead battery because this thing gets HOT as it is!
Also, I don't know if I would advertise the ability to simply peel the rubberized coating right off if you want to remove it. I've used this stuff dozens of times, I actually have my race car's tow hook covered in it, and that thing sees a LOT of abuse, but doesn't come right off.... If you can use this stuff to protect against giant metal hooks scratching off the coating with exactly as many dips in the can as you have layers of spray, I doubt this stuff would come off completely without a fight!

I don't know about it overheating at all although I haven't noticed any problems. As far as it peeling off it peels off without a hitch.. almost too easy, I am going to sand the back of the case in hopes that it will stick a little better. I assume the glossy cover makes it easy to peel but I've peeled it off and sprayed it again already once.

Ah sorry for the late response. It was holing up pretty well. I peeled it off a few days ago due to it peeling.. I think I might lightly sand the back first this time

Good idea and all but why would you not buy a rubberized case instead (replaces battery door). I have seen a dozen shops selling them in the US but none that ship (or none afford-ably yet) to Australia.

Oh because when I did it 6 weeks ago (right after release of the phone) there were none available
Edit: I misread. I don't like cases. They make the phone too bulky. I now use best skins ever. This peeled off after about a week each time I did it.

HTC One - bare / naked / without case

Are there any case haterz on this forum, who run their phones without any kind of cases / back stickers etc ?
Could you post some photos, facts, knowledge how well the phone stands everyday usage ?
I have been using case since day one, but i just can't stand it anymore. Did I buy alluminium phone to put it in rubber case or stick plastic sheet of foil on it to lose the feeling of alluminium ? No !
I drop my phone very rarely, actually i have never droppped it (knock knock), only time it hit ground it was clumsy bird's (jokin clumsy friend's hands) fault. My only concern is lens protector. On one side its nicely hidden in the rim, but at the other lens cover is protruding just a very litle bit. I am attaching picture to illustrate it a bit. It is side look.
There's a "hole" in the phone body, so the lens should be all hidden / drown and there should be 1 milimeter gap, when i place phone on table. On one side there is, on other lens is in line with body.
Grey - phone
White - gap for lens cover
Black - lens cover
Mods, please do not delete this topic - this has already happened in past (moved to accesories thread), but it get lost very easily, i try to debate with users without accesories.

i did for apprx 4 months when i first bought the device, now i'm using crystal clear case to not to hide devices body.
i bought a case after i saw scratches on camera lens, luckly camera lens got replaced after service for red tint.
also shiny exposed alumium around the device got scratched and deformed a bit.

I also am not a fan of big bulky cases. One of the main reasons I bought this phone is because it is so damn beautiful (compared to most other phones). I've always joked about how iPhone fans typically rave about how "sleek" and "thin" their phones are, yet they walk around with them wearing the equivalent of a down-filled parka that is anything but "sleek".
I did compromise a bit, just because I want to keep my phone looking nice. I found the Cimo clear case. It is very thin, and very clear. It has just enough of a "lip" around the edge so that the screen of the phone won't contact the ground when it is lying down (or dropped on its face). The soft rubbery cushioning should also protect against dings on the corners and back, as well as prevent scratches. All without sacrificing the beauty of the phone. I paid $10 on Amazon for it.

I did not buy a unibody aluminium finish phone to hide it behind chinese plastic covers. Thats not my style. I have pretty much the same type of use like yours. The only thing that has happened with me is that the beats audio red sticker at the behind bottom plate is now fading off. Nothing else. Just keep keys/card holder and coins in other pocket. I dont think you need a plastic cover.

When I had my One I used the HTC hard shell - minimal design but clear so you could still see the phone. Best case I had IMO

And what about lens cover ? Is yout lens completely hidden, or do you have it like me ? Hidden on one side, flush with body on the other.
Do you use any kind of pouch or something ?

never ever use a case defeats point of having such a wonderful design,have a leather pouch when not in us and just treat it like a baby when in use 6 months on still pristine not a mark

My lens cover is slightly recessed, so no, not like you, but haven't had any damage to it. No pouch or anything, just keep it in my pocket with my change.

I am careful when I lay it down on certain surfaces.
And I try *very* hard never to let it slip out of my hands and fall.
No damage due to general wear. I dented the back slightly and roughed up one corner slightly.
Totally worth it. Love the feel and thinness of the phone.

this is how i use mine. transparent cover over the back which i only put on because the aluminum is actually very slippery for me and the clear skin provides better grip so i dont drop it. clear cover over the screen and im good to go. few small areas around the front bevel where the blue has worn away but other than that its prefect. i never use a case, defeats the purpose of having a thin phone.

I Have been using it without cover, but in December it has fallen on the road so i ordered some cheap one from the e-bay.
So now, i am using it with cover, but i lost that great metal feeling of the phone.

I use no covers, just matte screen protector (I like the way my display looks with it). Bought it in June 2013. It fell on the floor several times, it got only one scratch on the top (on the lright corner), but it still looks amazing! As it's always in my pocket, lately the "beats audio" logo on the back is going away slowly... but i use nothing to protect it

+1. Dont know how long I would keep the phone. But while I have it might as well enjoy the quality feel of it.

My HTC One is about two weeks old. I love it so much, I can't bring myself to cover this baby up.
Also, I am paying for a warranty, so if anything happens to it I'll get a new one, or maybe the M8 if they run out =D

Painting the htc 10??

Hi all,
Have had my 10 since release day have had it in a case and screen protector since day one, both expensive ones too, tempered and a tech 21, now the tech 21 allowed a little bit of grit to get underneath the case and through pressure from my pocket or handling, the grit has etched a small scratch from the gun metal paint on the back at the top of the phone. I've now got a phantomskinz skin on it so it's covered but I wondered if anyone has ever matched the paint colour and type and attempted to either spray or touch up a mark?
There is no dents, literally just a chip from the paint, really annoyed me, tech 21 have been superb for me in the past.
I also have a friend who has dropped his literally the day he thought he didn't need a case and has a few scratches on the back, it was actually him who suggested painting it, at first I thought no way but thought I'd ask on here just in case anyone has ever committed to trying to paint their phone, htc 10 or not and how did you get along?
I'm sure we're not alone in having the odd scratch or two on our shiney htc 10s.
Any thoughts? Places who may do the job or what the colour or paint type is specifically? Is it treated? With what?,

Aye, they'd look a lot better if we could just touch them up when they took a knock.

You could theoretically paint these all-metal phones pretty easily. You would, however, need to completely disassemble the phone to get just the back shell (in this case specifically) so that you could begin prep work on it for paint/powder coating.
You would first use a high grit sanding on it to rough the surface up for adhesion. Then you either:
a)apply paint
b)begin process of powder coat
Too much effort, in all honesty, for this device though. I've watched a fair number of tear down videos, and the 10 looks to be as bad, if not worse, than the M8/M9 to take apart. I have to replace my screen on my M8, to keep it for my new burner device, so I may take it entirely apart and paint it electric blue by hand. Either that, or do a high polish on it, and get it shiny.

I wouldn't take the device apart to be honest. I think if the paint was matched a small brush could cover the scratches.

Anyone else got any ideas or suggestions besides tearing down and breaking out some spray paint.

i have a few tiny specs of paint gone due to the same reason. barely noticeable but still now i know about them . . . .

That's what I mean, it's the tiny blemishes that are the easiest to cover up but still annoying, if you get a scratch on your car you can get it resprayed or touched up same with paint on walls at home or pretty much anything I'm surprised that a service like this doesn't already exist.

The OP mentioned using one already. Skins are basically stickers that'll fade and peel over time and the corners will start to lift in cases where you don't apply perfectly, like a screen protector.
To the OP, may sound silly but some car paint shops have machines that match a materials color down to the H/S/V and can supply touchup paint. Have you looked into that?

I haven't mate, but I have to say I agree, ultimately something on a smaller scale would be ideal.
Have been quite busy these last few days but will be actively looking into it next week and may even price up some paint if I can match up the colour and type, I have a friend who does custom jobs (cars) so he may know more. Will let you guys know if I find anything worth mentioning.

I have a phantom skinz skin, which is solid and really stuck on there, looks great but defeats the object when you know there are blemishes or scratches underneath, if you were to resell the phone, a few scratches could really impact the price.
