As a sensation Owner, I'm planning to upgrade to An HTC One X but does the browser really suck? After watching this video, I'm kinda concerned how HTC failed to optimize the Tegra 3's power. 90% of the time I use my smartphone's browser, so I'm really concerned whether I should upgrade to the One X or not. Phonearena also said on their review that the browser felt choppy and buggy.

The browser is the best I've used....period!
The guy in the video is a tool, you can't test this browser just by zooming in & out, as this particular browser will give a quick flash of the screen as it wraps all the text to fit the screen.
... He did the initial smooth zooming & then tried to zoom out/in while the browser was trying to wrap the text, this is why it went all choppy.
It's smooth,
Zooming in & out is smooth
The flash of the screen is quick, & the text wrap is something ALL mobile browsers should have. (now I have an HOX, I'm glad not all others do this)

Is that your only worry? Is that really going to be a deal breaker? Come on there are plenty of alternatives on the market,the phone is fantastic,dolphin works well on it. Come on get the phone,try it,if you don't like it take it back, simples!

yep. I like the stock browser's look hehe and I have bad experiences with the dolphin browser.
Will buy it and test the phone. I hope I won't get annoyed with that aggressive text reflow.
I actually like the stock browser over chrome beta. It is much smoother and I think that if you turn off the three-finger swipe thing from screen settings it gets better. Haven't tried it with that option since I turned it off right when I got the phone.

I Would Like To Ask One Question : Is It Possible In One X To Disable
The " Text Re-flow or Rewrapping" Feature On The Stock Browser? And Have
You Done It On Your Devise?
I have the EXACT issues with my browser as the video. It is incredibly annoying and is a dealbreaker for me . I have flashed two different roms and it has been the same experience since stock. Anyone what might cause the problem? Text re-flow is off already.
Just wondering if there is a fix for this because the browser feels very choppy and slow.

Try what's best for you, if you like all the customisation and stuff, go for the desire

HTC Desire if you want cool Android Action from HTC and you dont want to spend money for a silly fruit!

Like the first poster said... You will probably find the Desire win because it is the Desire section.
My opinion - Desire is, and always will be, my love but that new iPhone sure does look amazing. I think that if I were to buy a phone right now, I would actually wait for the iPhone, the only thing that might stop me is the price. But hey, that's just my opinion, it's going to be your investment so you should make sure that it is right for you.

Though I would say if you wanted a Desire - to go for the Nexus One instead. if you don't want your phone to become obsolete soon then the N1 is your best bet on the Android platform.

In that case, I'd go with the iPhone. You're guaranteed to get updates all that time, I mean they've only just dropped the original iPhone, so I think that shows a lot.

yeah because of that, and also stock android is a lot smoother and less buggy than android with sense.
erm i can't see any reason why not, but when would you want to when the screen is only 400 px high in landscape?

Well im going to buy a new smartphone next month and I need to decide which phone to get between the HTC Desire and the Samsung galaxy S..
I decided to go with the Galaxy S since its hardware is way better..
And they said that its gonna have the 2.2
the only thing u will lose is the Sense UI (never had it..)

720p refers to it's resolution (the number of pixels) as a 720p video has 720 horizontal lines of pixels.
but the desire display only has 400 horizontal lines of pixels. So whats the point of having all those extra pixels when the screen can't display them?
You need an HD screen to get the benefit of HD video, like an HD TV or computer monitor.
But it is quite possible that android will take over apple. And I also read that htc will soon release a phone with a 1.5 ghz processor. And I don't think that nexus one is available in the uk.

N1 is available on vodafone at least, but not as good a deal as the desire.
and don't worry about processor speeds, they're pretty meaningless nowadays.
All the decent modern smartphones do everything instantly, the only place they're going to be different is benchmarks, which don't mean anything anyway.

The Desire can, but in really awful quality because it uses the flash lite player. If you use the youtube app you get better quality videos.
This is another reason why the N1 is better, it lets you play youtube videos from the browser without using the flash lite player which is awful quality.
Can not root the desire and install the stock android rom?
If the YouTube app is anything like the mobile website for YouTube,then it's no good.
I've watched and read many reviews of the One X including the phonearena one, and while I disagree with the total score they gave to the One X (7.5/10 I think which is ridiculous, it's better than that) i did see some lag and stutter here and there so let me explain. According to the vids, sense restarts from time to time which is very annoying on a phone with monster specs as this One. Also the browser looks inconsistent as HELL!!! I mean you double tap to zoom in an area and it shows you another part of the page. Pinch to zoom doesm seem very fluid at first but once you keep doing it its like butter but still. Again on the browser, when you scroll up and down sometimes you get this menu at the bottom page that appears and that also look annoying. I hope you can download the stock ICS browser from google play but these things shouldn't happen. I personally don't have the phone yet so I still have to check for myself but from what I saw I am very unimpressed by the browser. Don't mean to troll or whatever you called it

Yea but it doesn't support flash. I just finish watching a comparison between the one s vs one x browser, the one s destroys it in speed, fluidity. I'm just saying.

That's cool. I just saw the phonearena review that's why I'm concerned but I'm glad you like yours!
Just use Chrome.
It's better than the stock browser even on my Galaxy Nexus.
dude, give it 2 or 3 months your talking like the phone has been out for a year..wait till dev's start making custom roms, firmware, radios, etc..all of those problems that you see or hear are going to be fixed soon

I use to be a huge HTC fan till the GS and GS2 but I did own the sensation in between those releases but I usually buy an HTC and wait for CM to come out for the device to fix a lot of the junk HTC does in their devices. So what i'm saying is that if it isn't a HW issue i wouldn't worry about it not being fixed some how.
Just a thought.

So I am unsure how this all works but I was able to use Sense 4.0 on an HTC Sensation recently and it seemed to me that the browser used for Sense 4.0 is exactly the same as the Android Browser on ICS. I felt like it was snappy and responsive. Definitely impressed me
You are not alone. The browser on the one x is a mess. Unresponsive scrolling, unpredictable menu popping out at random, slow choppy zooming, funky text reflow, terrible memory management. Switching to another app or even the homescreen and back causes browser to quit and all the tabs to reload. Multitasking is non existent despite being the latest quadcore. Hate to say it but my old nexus one with a measely 512 ram and and primitive single core cpu provides better browsing and multitasks better.
Anyone tried Dolphin with OneX?
Found it pretty awesome on my Desire, but not seeing much mention of it being used with this device...

The browser has that behavior on all ICS roms. SGSII and Galaxy Nexus included. It isn't isolated to this phone.

I'm sorry but that is simply not true at all. The Gnexus browser is nearly perfect. Double tap zoom is very good so is pinch to zoom. I'm guessing downloading the ICS stock browser from google play might help. The one x browser is all over the place.
Just sayin', Phone Arena is really weird with their reviews.
Lumia 900, Windows Phone 7.5, get's a 8.
Infinitely superior One X gets a 7.8 just because it has a bulky soft keyboard(easily replaced), a clunky browser(easily replaced), etc.

I'm so interested in getting htc one x (currently using iPhone 4s and htc radar) but there is controversy that the default browser of one x is not as smooth as people expected.
I think it's due to the text wrapping(and the page rendering is not as smooth either when you zoom in and out) so is it possible to turn off the feature?
I also want to see how well the chrome beta works on the one x. Can anybody take a video for me?

Htc one x is the beast. Personally, I like the super LCD more than amoled.
So here is the deal, I had a Sensation before my One X, and since this phone has Tegra 3 I would assume it run a lot smoother! And overall it does, actually every single app is much more fluid, and switching apps are fast and smooth, but the Facebook app is horrible! I know, it's always been, but compared to my old Sensation, the One X isn't doing well here..
Yes I know FriendCaster is available, but I actually prefer the official app on a phone.. So is anybody experiencing this? And is this really where we can see the power of custom kernels? Or am I completely stupid and alone on this..?
Edit: And sorry if this has been discussed.. Haven't been on here that much lately..

It really depends what you call 'sluggish'. Coming from the Facebook app on an iPhone for example, the official Facebook app on the one x takes longer to start and also does not provide a smooth scrolling experience as on the iPhone.
Compared to other Android devices, it feels pretty much the same on most of them. Looking at LG 2x and SGS II they all feel quite the same.
The facebook app is just crap at the best of times, it was naff on my HTC Desire and its still crap on the One X, its nothing to do with the phone, just the app was made by monkeys... My mum could code a better app! Heh.

+1 - I HATE the facebook app. They really need to sort it out!
The worst recent change they made was to wait until you get a gps position BEFORE???? loading the news feed. so you could sometimes end up waiting a loooong time before you see anything. Its shocking coding by them.
I heard a while ago that they only have one dev working on the android one, but a team who do the iphone one. Maybe this has changed now, but if not, they need to consider some changes!
The FaceBook app could really do with GPU Acceleration.
Theres no reason to why clicking out the sidebar should be choppy, and the fact that the loading spinner is sluggish
I actually like how the official FB app is, EXCEPT how delayed and laggy scrolling can become!

Yeh that's real crap you can however stop it, if your rooted get lbe security it allows you to controll the permissions of everything system apps included.
I want to know why it need my location on the news feed? I could understand on the status updates screen.

Having owned a desire HD for 2 years I have decided to move to the HTC one X. Overall I am quite impressed with the phone but have a couple of niggles that I hope someone can resolve.
1) when I pinch to zoom there is quite noticeable lag when the text reflows to fit the width of the page. This is much more then the desire HD. How can this be when comparing single vs quad core?
2) What happened to HTC news? I thought this was one of the best widgets for news. It has now been replaced by android news and weather which I dont like. Is there anywhere that HTC news can be installed again as this is one thing I will miss.

A couple of reasons. The "HD" display on the Desire was 800 x 480 wheras as the One X is 1280 x 720. That's 30% more pixels to move. It's also why the graphics benchmarks for the One X are lower than the One S which has the same resolution as the DHD. Samsung ditched reflow completely in the SGS3 to avoid lag. Owners are none too pleased. The "read" function that strips out graphics and expands text is lurking in the background even if you don't use it and is probably adding some weight to the screen painting. The browser is the stock browser tweaked (to death) by HTC. We're on 4.0.3 and there are browser improvments in 4.0.4 which is coming in the next update. HTC's made some browser changes in the 2.X update so hopefully that'll improve things. Meanwhile, the answer most people will give you is to usa a different browser from the market. I stick with stock because I really like the read function on mammoth text heavy sites like the WSJ.

You are right about the browser changes though, although from what i've read the browser does consume a little bit more power in the new firmware, I think i lasted 15 minutes less on a full charge. Worth it if the browser experience is much better.
I am using the Chrome for Android anyway, much better than the standard browser.

It's 480x800, not 480x840. And One S has 540x960 resolution. U both failed.

It was also a double fail as the phone screen is portrait, its not a TV. so its 720x1280 not 1280x720.

1. Use Google Chrome the stock browser is ****E!
