Caller ID on Text Message - HTC One X

I have my lock screen set to Productivity, which is where you get banners for Calls, Text eMail ect.
So when I get a Phone call from my Wife, for example on the lock screen banner it shows her Name.
But if I get a Text message from her it only shows her number.
The splash screen for the Productivity shows that you would get the persons name, like for the phone call if they were in your address book.
Anyone getting the caller id to work on text messages??

I just noticed this too
Very strange. I thought it was due to a custom ROM but maybe not.
To the OP, are you running stock ROM?
Has anyone else seen this issue? Any fix?
Cheers,
Scott

Just Tried To Recreate This Fault.. Im Using a Custom Rom So May Be Different But I Cant Get It To Happen At All...
Ive Tried It With Numerous Different Contacts And Theyre All Coming Up With Names...
Your Wifes Number Is It Saved To The Phone, Sim Or Google Contacts? Maybe Thats Making A Difference!
Thanks

is it as simple as the text coming through from +44 (or similar local international code) and the number being saved in it's national version?

I put money on it being due to you having more than one number listed under your wifes contact card.

Missing SMS / text messages

Hello,
I've suspected for a while(and confirmed with friends) that relatively often, my sms don't get to them. It's shown as sent in my phone and in the sms threads, but they simply don't recieve them.
So I tested it out with another phone, sending 5 sms' to the other phone and it only recieved the first one. the other 4 never got there... Now could this be some sort of anti spam causing it? - I did send them in rapid succession. However when I send messages from the OTHER phone to me, regardless of how quick, I get them all. And we're on the same network/provider so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
During regular use, even SMS' sent with lots of time inbetween gets lost occassionally.
I've never had this problems with my old phone so does anyone else have a clue why this is happening? As you can imagine, it's frustrating thinking someone has gotten a message but it never reached there.
Thank you.
Sounds like this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522535

Hey thanks for the reply, I saw that but doubt that's the same problem.. I usually list most of my numbers with +, and it shows the message is "sent". If it was the same problem as the link above, I guess it would b epossible to reproduce it everytime but mine is seemingly more random.
The specific number I tested it on was a number WITHOUT the +areacode, and even that produced 1/5 messages recieved by the other party.
Any other ideas?
I had that problem before with my touchPro. All I did was hard reset the phone, active sync my contacts and I sent out text messages. Everything worked fine after that.

Also checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4016381&postcount=31 ? see if the number is still correct in windows mobile?
Also try to sent from the windows interface a couple of times (in the textmessage touchflo tab touch the new sms icon in the above right corner.) see if it does better then.

God you know what, you're right. Thanks. I did look through the WM sent folder before but not far down enough..
It does seem to drop the + after the first SMS then not reapply the + until I get a reply.
Annoyingly my phone still tells me "Message Sent" instead of invalid number though, so there's no way to tell if it sent the message without going to check the sent folder I assume?
Doesn't seem like there's a fix or even a confirmed cause for this yet?
I'm having a strange reversed problem: all SMS I send are regularly delivered, but I "miss" many incoming ones. the strage thing is that it happens (AFAIK) only with my girlfriend's ones!! nobody else still complained about me not anwering, so that should mean I received and answered all other mesages.
Please note that we have the same mobile operator (Vodafone Italy)
today she tried her SIM with her bro's phone, and guess what, the problem is still here BUT the difference is in lost messages: 4 out of five lost with her Moto v9, 2 out of 6 lost with her bro's nokia. that sounds really weird to me.
where do you think the problem might be? mine/her SIM, or phone?
I'll call Vodafone Italy later, but their assistance and support is really awful, they do not even know what they are talking about, and reply with the same pre-confectioned anwers every time.

Is there some sort of app or registry setting that I could change that'd ask if I wanted to resend the message? Having to retype in messages is rather annoying.
According to this post Windows Mobile 6.1 added this feature but I don't see it and I'm running 6.5. Maybe the HTC TouchFlo 3D interface removed it?

It doesn't retain a copy of the message in your drafts folder, or outbox...? Whenever I get that message I can just pull it up from there and hit send again
Whenever I get this message, after trying to resend it a few times, I realize I tried sending a text to an email address.
Make sure the number has an area code as part of the number.
Just another possible solution.
Is it for all text messages? If its a specific number sometimes the persons number is disconnected

this is the correct answer...if you have a good signal and you get that error msg, then that person has not paid their billy bill...
This problem comes up quite often if you've flashed a different radio onto your device. If you have flashed a custom radio, try out another or stock. If that's not the case, you might be in a poor coverage area. Both are common culprits, but may not apply for you.
SMS doest go to outbox folder
I have the same problem
When I have no service coverage I would like to type sms messages and as soon as I get it make phone send them all out. But unfortunately, when I don't have service HTC touch pro 2 keeps trying to send sms out and after a couple of attempts gives me message that it was not able to send it. I have to click on each message and resend it when I have service. Instead, I want my phone to put all sms into outbox sms folder and send them all when I actually have service.
I know other phones perform this function well. I went thru all settings but couldn't get it to put sms into outbox when no service available.
Does anyone have fix for that?
Also having a similar problem
Hi all,
Same, or similar thing with me. I'm on Vodafone in the UK, and I've got a friend who is on '3' in the UK. If I text him with a new fresh message, and hit send, it goes to him no problems. If he replies and I attempt to reply back - then I get "Your message could not be sent. Try again?" underlined in red. Tapping on this just generates the same problem again and again.
I've tried his number with/without spaces in it, ensured his contact name has no non-alpha characters in it, tried his number in +447xxx format as well as 07xxxx - all to no avail.
It does not happen with any other contact in my phonebook and I end up having to let the message fail, then forwarding my reply to him, so it leaves my device as a new message.
Now, as it's the UK, its nothing to do with him having not paid his bill (we don't get charged to receive SMS in the UK), and I've got great signal (I work for a Vodafone associated company and we've got a cell on-site, so it's full signal of HSUPA for me).
I am completely at a loss to understand why this happens - I have other friends on '3' that SMS's go to fine, so I'm guessing it's not a Vodafone to '3' issue either.
Any ideas anyone?!
Adam C.
PS: Stock ROM running WM6.5, unlocked GSM, nothing odd about the configuration/software either!
...bump.
Anyone?
Thx,
a.

Unaccounted SMS and Picture messaging.

Something very odd.
Ive signed up to my-tmobile looking over my unbilled usage i can see SMS messages and Picture messages i have not sent. To non UK standard mobile numbers.
Usually starting with 100 or 10.
Is this a software bug? or have i some how infected myself with an android scam app or something?
i will be phoning up tmobile again later but wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.
Nutsy
If I remember correctly they don't actually show the numbers you have contacted, those numbers starting with 100 or 10 are just an alias T-mobile gives to numbers you contact.
Might just be your normal sms and mms then, if you haven't sent any at all then talk to T-mobile.
Well i deffinently didnt sent any picture messages. And it shows the Text messages i did sent as the correct numbers.
So this is making me a little worryed. I have what i thought where safe programs from the app market. Is there anyway of scanning an android phone of melicous software?
If u have handcent sms on your handset make sure auto convert to mms has been unchecked.otherwise it will convert all your long sms text messages to mms.
Nope just using the htc software. i might give tmobile a call again in a bit see what the hells going on. This isnt something i want to keep having to check up every other day for the next 2 years.
So is back to the other question. in case i have some how got a dodgy program running and doing all this is there anyway to scan my phone?
Really was hoping some one else might know whats going on.
no idea i am afraid, but just to make sure it's not some scam app, uninstall everything...
you;ve not been using any of the options in the STK have you? i think it appears in the menu as interactive? cos those are all done by text messages

I can't send texts to ONE person. How come?

Does anybody know why I can't send a text to one person? I can recieve texts from her, I can call her, she can call me, she recieves texts from EVERYONE else, and I can send texts to EVERYONE else.
She's my girlfriend aswell which makes things just that little bit more annoying
Anyone had any similar problems?
Cheers!
why can't you send texts to her? error message? is her number listed as mobile?
No error message at all. My phone actually just goes along as normal as if it's sent. The text is even in my Sent Messages box.
And yeah, her phone number hasn't changed.
I text her, and she recieved it, on Thursday morning.
Then around lunchtime...they just stopped working. Not sure what happened!
maybe send a text to her and somebody else at the same time and see what happens
- check if she's not twice in your contacts lists. (on SIM card maybe?)
- check the format of the number +<country code> or just 0xxxx
- delete her from contact list try to call and see if it will show enything while calling, maybe you have similar number e.g. last 7 digits (not quite possible) but maybe some error number or so, if it will show something delete that as well
- after deleting contact, send a message, by typing a number
- try to send from different mobile - maybe it's a network error
- try to send new message not reply / or try reply, not new.
- try to delete messages history
- try to change girlfriend - sometimes, i couldn't send my girlfriend messages, but problem was in her
- reflash phone
come back with results
Haha, I will try those Except for the second-to-last one!
aah, if you have threaded messages, i'll guess it will help if you just write a new message to number - menu - new - text - and type her number
try it as first

Call your carrier and ask what is going on... and have her do the same. It's possibly it's not even your phone.

if you tried from different phone WITH your SIM in it and it worked,
then it wouldn't be carrier problem, I suppose you need to delete messaging DB. search for a tool to do so, or a backup app, or hard reset the whole phone and make backup of empty messaging in case it will happen again.
maybe she's not that in to you?
Yeah, a joke about that has already been made...nice one.
Anyways, we talk on the phone every day, and she texts me, but I've just gotta PM her on Facebook as my reply so...

Haha, girlfriend upgrades are so much more difficult than flashing roms.....at least with the phone there is no talking back....and you can always just take out the battery if it starts giving you lip!
I read through the post rather quickly so if I missed something I'm sorry, but are you sure the problem isnt on her end? Has she contacted her provider and had them check her line out? I know the provider can do something where they reset something on their end and it flushes the system out. Also did you try the above suggested and at the same time send the same message to her and someone else? Also have you tried sending an MMS to her? If I were you I would trouble shoot this while you both were sitting next to each other. This is a weird one indeed...
So..... solved or what
it's like watching a soap opera.
wth happened? figure it out?
I don't think it's a problem with your phone, I'm pretty sure this is a network / SIM problem, because my family has experienced EXACTLY the same thing. My sister's SIM card will not receive texts from my mother's SIM card no matter what, and they have regular old "dumb" phones. Even with both of them using different phones it doesn't work.
In the end we just bought a new SIM card because of the obvious annoyance it caused, although I can imagine it is much worse for you not being able to text your girlfriend! The only way I can think of fixing it is, as suggested, contact your network. We didn't try this but maybe they can do something! If not you should easily be able to transfer your number to a new SIM
I don't know what device she has, if she has a TP2 you both can try this:
(at least on WM 6.5) go to:
Start -> Phone (should open the dialer) -> Menu -> Options -> Menu -> Advanced Network -> SMS Servcice tab
Try switching between SMS over GSM or SMS over GPRS

I would not like to "Text" Work numbers

Is it just me, or is there anyway to remove the option to Send a Message to any numbers not designated as "Mobile"?
In my address book, numbers designated as Home or Work still give me the option to Text them.
Its frustrating to accidentally send a Text to my Wife's work number, because I selected the wrong option in People, when it shouldnt even show as an option unless its a Mobile.
Any one able to help on this?

Yes, I do, and you are right, user error is the most at fault here.
I know my wife's cell number, but I hardly know anyone elses. Thats why I keep a detailed Google address book, so that I dont have to.
However I still think its silly that it allows you to designate numbers as mobile or not, but then automatically gives you an option to text non-mobile numbers. Is it not?
And if it is silly, its something Id like to correct if I could, hence asking the community if anyone else has seen this, and knows of any way to address it besides always pushing the decision on the user.
That's a good point. I thought that was annoying as well. I do most of my messaging straight from the messaging app but it still shows all numbers. It's a bit annoying.
Sent from my EVO 4G using the XDA App.
Sorry I don't have an answer, just want to say I'm with u on this. I think its reasonable to expect such a genius phone to know it can't send a text to a land line.
Although, as I type this I'm realizing that more companies are using cell phone for their primary lines and employees. Who knows, maybe we will be able to send texts to land lines someday soon. If a regular phone has an lcd for cid display why couldn't it display a text message... things that make you go "hmmm"
I asked a similar question before in a different thread... but does anyone know if the People app source is ever released when they release the source for the EVO ROM?
I imagine the hardest part about excluding the option to message other numbers would be finding the right spot to implement an if statement. Then would it be possible to compile the APK and install that custom version on my phone? While I would be in there I'd probably address the First name sorting problem
I'm 100% with you on this. I know it's part of user control but it shouldn't have to be.
There should be a checkable option in the Messages/SMS app: "Include Non-Mobile Numbers" and it should be off by default.
I also wish you could exclude certain contacts in the Messages/SMS app. There are people at work I would never text but I have their number in case they call me (I often am the "go-to IT guy") so I know who it is.
Ah well, we can hope!
I'm so with everyone on this..It annoys the hell out of me.
but you know what? I found out that apparently Sprint has some kind of service that will txt to landlines.
txt your home phone and you'll see..maybe there is a way to turn that off i dont know. didnt check much further into it

Yes, I've done it by accident many times. Those who I've texted (landline instead of wireless), said they answered the call and was given the option of having my text "read" to them. In fact, I just did it yesterday to my brother, thought I was texting his cell and instead sent it to his home. His wife answered and some "computer lady" read her my text...

I hate to say it but some people's mobile number is their home number. Lots of peep no longer have land lines at all. If you put a filter on what the sms app shows you would likely have as many people unhappy about that as you do this. If your going to error, do it on the side of making things possible as opposed to restricting things is likely the logic in play here.

I thought the messaging app did have that option then I realized I use handsent and it does have a mobile only option in its send settings.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i guess it depends on how many contacts you have but you could create a group that only contained mobile numbers. Although if you have a significant amount of contacts this would probably be a pain
I created separate "land" contacts for those I text and that have land lines. Lousy but works.
