Hi!
I have a green-lensed Defy that has been running CM7 for something like 7 months.
Last weekend it started turning off for no reason.
Since I dropped some beer over it (not too much, though, and everything was "closed") i thought could be that. so, i left it with rice for 4 days, and tried turning it on again.
Well, what happens is that if is NOT charging, it keeps turning of. I've wiped dvorak/cache and i think it made it last longer.
I've set catlog do save the log but couldn't find anything useful associated to the shutdowns.
And I've noticed that the battery drops about ~10-20% when shuts.
What can it be? How to fix that?
first of all clean the USB/charger port and the battery terminals, if the problem still persists then reflash cm7.

it does charge;
i've cleaned;
it can be just stading on the table and it turns off, doesn't even need to be moving

I was running Paul's custom ROM for the past week or so. I plugged my phone in to a portable charger because the battery was low. This is not the first time I have used this charger on this phone. After a few minutes the phone rebooted. I found this odd so I tried to figure out what was going on. I unlocked the device and went into settings....phone rebooted again. I tried reflashing the MoDaCo ROM, reflashing the original ROM and resetting the device. It still does it. Im still new to Android platform (moving away from a shameful iPhone) so Im lost on what the problem could be. Any ideas?

No. I didn't change any of that. My phone is unusable
I think one of my apps is causing it. Is that possible even though I'm not running the app?
I have no idea. I think youre leaving out something.

After i restore to factory everything works fine. It starts again (doesn't matter which ROM I'm using) when Google syncs the apps I've downloaded to the phone. It's stable right now until I figure out what the hell is going on.
I would say app but you said you wiped everything..

Right. It works fine until Google starts to sync my data from my account. Is there a way to pinpoint which app is causing the damage?
Nevermind. It does it anyway. Hardware issue? Overheating issue?
My xperia play wont boot, It only flashes a red power light only when charging. Previously my battery ran dry now when I charge it only flashes a red light. I tried charging it but no difference. I tried another battery it still won't boot, I went to the extent of trying my battery in another xperia play and the battery works perfectly in it. I'm stumped plz help

You may have bricked it. Have you tried installing any rooms lately? Consider flashing back your stock firmware with "flash tool".
I have a stock device that has never been flashed or tampered with. Does anyone know what the flashing led mean?

Leave it charging. Sometimes the battery is too low to turn on. If not, try a new battery

Didnt u read.... I used another battery in it and it didnt boot, plus I tried my battery in another xperia play and it worked!!
If it's never even been rooted, then you should take it in for repair. Maybe a hardware issue.

Maybe if he researched but oh well, this what I have and sometimes it indicates a hardware component is damaged meaning find out what it is,
you should:
Go to your phone provider and ask them do NOT MENTION ABOUT ANY ROOTING OR BL UNLOCKING.
Find out what problem it has .
Or never use it again (Dont do it)
In my case the digitlizer "Screen" is broken, because back in march I used to boot my phone and the screen wouldnt sometimes work of course there could be another problem but...
Yea I realised I tried turned it on with the battery in the wrong way. I realised it didn't come on and when I fixed the battery right it still wouldn't come on. It just kept flashing the red light only when I tried to charge via USB or wall charger

This has been pretty much been the most frustrating update process of my 4 Android devices that I have owned.
Hoping some of the sharp people here can help me out.
Buttons Not Working - About every third or fourth time I wake my phone my physical buttons do not work. I have to put the phone to sleep and re-wake (sometimes multiple times) to get my phone's buttons to work.
Excessive Battery Drain - Yikes!!! I have uninstalled all my apps, and it is still occurring. Any other ideas to figure out what might be causing this?
Constant 3G data movement - When wi-fi is off, my phone is constantly pushing 3g data up and down....non-stop!
Excessive Phone Heat - My phone is running like a furnace.
Now, I think the last three are probably connected in some way.

That is not ICS you have something running in the background. That would cause all of that. Get a battery monitor app and see what is running

I am glad I am not the only ones with these problems.
It has to be a ICS function that is causing the excessive battery drain.
I currently have no non stock apps installed.
I have noticed that the battery ran from 100% to 25% but battery drain had no slowed considerably....maybe faulty logic in how they are calculating percentages?
The one I would really like to solve is the buttons not working, as there will be lots of battery related threads as more and more people upgrade.

The malfunctioning buttons have been happening to some of us on every ROM, whether it's Gingerbread or ICS. It happens to mine on stock GB or stock I'VE.
Just so you know, you can tap the volume Roche to wake up the buttons. You don't have to cycle the screen. Tap the volume button, wait second or so and you will see the capacitive buttons blink once... That means they've reset. Sometimes you have to do it twice.

Same issue here with the retarded battery life, stock rooted FF18. It's pathetic. Constant battery drain while "sleeping", with wifi on or off. Guess i'll have to try a different ROM.

I tried this yesterday when I was getting terrible battery life. I went from fully charged to dead in 3 hours flat.
I ended up doing a factory reset with sfhub's one-click and am slowly testing and restoring apps to see what's acting as a vampire.

You should try it again if it didn't work!
Not everyone's issue is going to be caused by the same thing. What may work for you may not always work for everyone else. It may be an app or ICS in general causing the issue.

Hi, I'm running CM10 with Lean Kernel and It drained the **** out of my battery so out of no where I find my phone at 3% battery life eventually it died but now its not turning on. Any ideas where to go from here to fix the problem?
I'm not trolling you, I promise. Plug it into the charger for a while, then try to turn it on?
What have u tried? Did u try leaving it to charge a bit? Pull battery out for 10-15 seconds put it in and hold power button, does it do anything?

Well its been about 10 minutes now, but if the phone isn't showing any signs of charging I don't see the point to keep it plugged in.. And no I cannot enter CMW.
EDIT: download mode works
EDIT2: phone turned on when I plugged it into laptop, but somehow the battery charged up to 34% in less than 15 minutes.
Maybe ur charging block or usb? U using oem?

I kinda think its that kernel, it don't play nice with some phones, especially if you oc, I had the same setup as you and the same thing happened to me, only my phone froze making a weird siren type sound, requiring a battery pull, the phone was horribly hot to where I couldn't hold it. The thing wouldn't turn on, it would eventually turn on after hitting the back real hard and plugging it into the charger repeatedly until I felt it vibrate, I immediately returned it to stock, reset flash counter and took all my stuff off the storage. Low and be hold it froze and never turned back on after that so I got lucky, I had it replaced. Hopefully this isn't what happened to you. But ever since I got my replacement, I stopped downloading custom kernels because I notice absolutely no difference in day to day usage except the phone becoming extra hot even with light task and minor oc, and random reboots. The stock CM kernel is perfect, has awesome battery and the phone never gets higher than 101 degrees. If you're someone who bases their decisions on quadrants, by all means, flash these kernels, but my personalrrecommendation FOR THIS PHONE is to stick with stock kernel.
Side suggestion. Unplug the battery, plug it via USB until the phone is fully powered(lock screen) and plug in the battery. I stress this enough, Do Not Unplug It until it reaches 30%. It will take a while for it to reach 1%, maybe 1/2 to 1 hr
Didn't see last post.

All you have to do is let it charge for 10-15 minutes and then unplug, let it boot, and then plug it back in. Turning the phone on while its plugged doesn't work so well for some reason.

OK so my phone keeps shutting off..its doesn't reboot but it just shuts off ..i was on avatar ROM and it did it on that one and on jellybam 7.7 and same thing...but when i was on jellybam 7.6.2 it never shut off...just random reboots which was a known bug in the ROM...right now im on uber kernel and jellybam 7.7. Any help?...it usually happens when i disconnect my earphones and/or USB cable..

I can't help you, but I'm just letting you know you're not alone. Mine did that a couple of times when I was on some CM 10.1 nightlies. The phone would just shut off. I thought maybe it was just a SOD on black screen, but one time I caught it flash the Samsung logo, and then shut off. I had to press and hold the power button to turn it back on. Strange indeed. I don't know what caused it, but I would like to know. I use my phone as my alarm, and if it would shut off during the night that would not be good for the morning.
You'd get much more input if you were on a Rom on xda.
This is why I won't use a few roms....jellybam, carbon....at least until there is a dev thread on it....and a couple others.
Just my two cents!

It can be the software or the hardware. My phone keeps rebooting even though I reverted back to stock.
I'm getting the same issue with the random shutdowns. I'm on PAC-man rom. The few times I noticed that it happened was when the screen shutdown while an app was active.
