[Q] Phone looses date&time - HTC Wildfire S

Hope I can get some help with this annoying issue.
Phone looses date&time after the battery is plugged out. Also the automatic date&time settings don't work. Each time I take out the battery the phone resets to a very early date like 1980 or something like that.
I guess this is a hardware issue but how can I fix this?
Thanks for all the replies.

May be the reception is not good in you area.
Also do you have the automatic restore switched on?

I don't think it is about weak reception as I have a similar wildfire s and that one with the same simcard gets automatic date&time settings. And also that one does not loose the date&time when the battery is plugged out.

How about trying to Factory Reset the WFS that has the problem and setting it up from scratch.
Just an idea.

I also tried that and have reinstalled the whole stock rom. I mean a RUU from the scratch. But no luck.
Is it possible that having a different CID than the stock rom can cause a problem. Or is there anyone like me who changed the stock rom and has a different CID than his software. I used a goldcard to change the stock rom. The phone has originally HTC__044 but I have installed the europe RUU.

Sorry I don't know about CID's.
I'm having my own issues at the moment trying to create a Goldcard. Seems impossible for me. Nothing works, no matter what method I try.
Anyway, do you have the same ROM on both phones?
If so, then they should both work the same no matter what.
However, if you have a Custom ROM on one maybe there is something the phone simply does not like and therefore cannot continue to keep the Date&Time settings.

The other phone is HTC__Y13 which is already a europe version. Anyway I will try to download an Asia RUU version and see if it fixes it.
For you the easiest way to make a goldcard is goldcard tool which worked fine for me.
http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/

I finally found the problem. After a desperate trial of several softwares I decided to open up the phone.
The tapes over the connectors and a small battery were missing So I patched this by getting some tape over it and now it seems to work fine. Apparently it was somehow short-circuited by touching the back cover of the phone and probably some other parts as well.
Awkward how can HTC forget to place tape. I bought this phone from the internet so I had no warranty to bother myself as it takes ages to send and receive back. but I am also %100 sure it is not a refurbished phone as it is a trusty reseller I bought several times mobile phones. I already complained to the place I bought but anyway I am happy that the problem is resolved

I got mine brand new from O2 and still get this problem so its probably just HTC cutting corners, for a change. Pics of repair please so I can try and sort mine out.

Unfortunately I have already put my phone together, but if you watch the video below, go to minute 2:00 of the video and play. There you can see which connectors I mean. Or just watch any disassembly video on youtube to see what I mean.
I put a long tape covering the two connectors and the battery.

[Q] desire turns off when camera flash used

Hi all, I have been reading this forum for a while now, but this is my first post. I had a hero before I got the HTC desire hd, and I love both phones. But the desire hd has a problem. The phone has started turning off when I use the camera with flash. The camera is fine without the flash. Also the leds don't work with the flashlight app.
The phone isn't rooted, and hasn't been dropped etc. I have reset the phone and no difference. Any ideas. Cheers des.
some more info. The flash and the flashlight app used to work but now don't. sometimes the phone doesn't switch off when I try the camera flash, but the flash doesn't flash.
also I need to remove the battery to make the phone startup after this fault. the battery and sim card are fitted fine. The phone is about 6 weeks old sim free from handtec. I sent a email to HTC about the fault on Saturday, but have heard nothing back other than a email receive confirmation. are they usually this slow.
Sounds like a hardware fault to me. I'd return it for repair asap.
That's what I'm thinking too. Just don't want to be without the phone.. typically how long are they away for repair?
Depends if they're either gonna replace it right away or attempt to repair it. Repairing time is differnet everywhere...
Depends how busy they are and availability of parts. Unfortunately there is no way to be sure. Could be anything from 1-6 weeks.
Just to let you know HTC have arranged to collect the phone and take it for repair. 10 working days with no phone, boo.
Facing the same issue.
How was yours resolved and what was the problem according to htc?

Desire HD Limited Service problem?

I was just playing around with my rooted/ARHD .11 phone, was replacing bootanimations one after the other. and then i notice after a reboot that ive gone limited service. what couldve cause this? any ideas? ive already tried. reflashin the rom g,reflashing radio, ejecting my sim, pulling the battery out..but to no avail. still limited service.whenever i tried changing the network mode.its stuck at gsm/wcdma mode..it just reverts back to it.
im currently restong from my nandroid backup from stock fw..waiting for results..
any advice one this? thank you.
Make sure the bottom cover is on correctly. If those pins inside aren't touching, that's the error you'll get. (usually)
sim card died
nandroid restore didnt work either but i tried my sim card on another phone and there i learned that it was the problem. it just died. gonna get a replacement later. now im restoring back to arhd.. sigh..
that sim was old anyway..its about 6 yrs old..boo
thanks for the input anyway equlizer

my desire hd has been dropping in and out of limited service ever since i have had it
i always thought it was because of the ****ty reception in my area, but thought it was strange that it would never reconnect unless i turned airplane mode on then off
i just tried pulling off my sim cover and putting it back on, and as you suggested it has the same effect
so i have slightly bent the two pins on the phone up a little to make sure there is better contact with the sim cover
hopefully this will be the end of my dramas
thank you!
Nandroid doesn't restore the radio.img to me that's what it sound like. Id pull the corresponding radio.img from the radio thread and flash out in fastboot.

Maybe you can try a newer radio to flash.

HELP! My phone gets hot and restarts! Please look for more info inside!

Hello dear friends!
HTC let me down Kind of stupid phones indeed at least desire...
I have my phone for quite a time now, it is rooted with unrewoked, clockwork recovery and s-on. I flashed many different roms in the past and everything was brilliant. In a pas half-a-year or so I stayed with only one ROM - MIUI-Au. I kept updating it to the newer versions and so on and on. Never had any random reboot or something. At least maybe it was because of some strange app or something else. But now it started to reboot randomly and constantly!
Phone gets hot abit and it just reboots, and never comes to android homescreen again, until I put out the battery, hold it for few minutes, pop it back and then it boots. But as soon as start to play music, or run a game the phone gets hot abit and reboots again. and so on and on. I thought maybe it was a miui issue. So I tried to flash different roms, but guess what? None of the even boot! The main screen shows and with the same second it bootloops again and forever!... (
Even from recovery it sometimes reboots randomly. So i managed somehow to flash my miui back and it at least boots. But it is very unstable now, I barely can use my phone now
PLEASE WHO CAN HELP ME????
My warranty probably out of date, and my phone is rooted, I dont think HTC would accept it...
any thoughts? friends?
What have you set the CPU max to?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thank you for response! Appreciate, really!! I didn't set it, I left everything by default I think! Because as i said, i even tried flashing different roms, not only miui.
What else could be? By the way, with stock froyo rom If I remember correctly, sometimes it became extremely hot, but I didnt get any reboots from that. But now, it gets just a little bit hot and it seems that this causes the reboot...
Now what I just noticed, I get reboots even when the phone is idle. And it is not even warm!
If its not getting hot then I'm confused lol. It sounds like a actual hardware fault. Sorry I can't help with this one

try and get it taken back to stock if you dare.
The phone hasn't been out 2 years yet, which is how long the warranty is.
Thank you! But is there any possibility to fix it without HTC involvement? Maybe it is not hardware issue ? Can it be because phone is rooted and I flashed many roms to it ? I didnt try AOSP roms since reboots started, I will try to pop in Cyanogenmod or other and see if I will get reboots.
Would rerooting my phone and updating my recovery fix the problem?
and Note: yesterday I tried to S-OFF my phone, but I can't even do that with my unstable MIUI. It rebooted in the middle of the process..
I had a similar problem, apparently it's not uncommon on the early revisions. I sent mine to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Thank you for answer! But what if my phone is bought through a contractor?
Can just call HTC and ask the for repair? Or should I contact my contractor first ?
Just give them a call and they will try to help you out. I had a very good customer service experience with them when my desire had some issues.
They will require a proof of purchase though. If you managed to get the receipt from your "contractor" (I am unsure what you mean by a contractor), then there should be no problem.
Sorry for misleading word, I meant T-Mobile. I bought my phone under contract. I think I have a receipt. I even have whole box and stuff of the phone somewhere in my drawer.(just sayin ). So how is customer service of HTC? Poor, good ? I heard you need to tell them that you did a factory reset and that didn't help. Is that true. Also if I will unroot my phone, will they know it was rooted anyhow?
Ahhh....this overheating issue seems common. How they can release faulty phones?? No clue.
thanks for answers mates!
In Singapore, HTC service is really good. Phone was still under warranty.
It took me just one (real) call to confirm a repair order. The first call I was just checking to see what options were available to me.
The second call was an actual repair request. And the third call was me pestering them for a pickup date. heehee
In Singapore, repairs were done via courier. They picked it up and 1 working day later, they sent it back.
Naturally, you will probably need to impress upon them that you tried everything to fix your phone (which I hope you did which includes proving to yourself that it's not the ROMs fault).
You will definitely need to reset everything back to zero. In my case, I downloaded an RUU to totally reset everything back to STOCK, which included removing clockworkmod recovery. You WILL need to create a goldcard for this though so bear in mind that it's not exactly a case of a simple flashing procedure. At least not if you don't already have a goldcard.
Sorry if I overread it at some point, but you speculated at the beginning there could be some faulty app causing this, but you never meantioned performing a full wipe. Have you full wiped yet? Just to make sure it is indeed no software problem.
greets
Thank you for your answers. At the moment I have SuperNova classic ROM. ( 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1) But my phone crashes again and again, it is so annoying and causes me so much trouble.
I never tried a reset or unroot and return to original rom. Im just wondering now, would this help to remove or at least remove those reboots?
Today I was in my work and i was keeping my phone in my jeans pocket. it got hot as u would expect when keeping in pocket and suddenly it rebooten, then it went into a bootloop and started to bootloop 7 times in a row quickly. then again and again. It became very hot at that time.
For the interest, what exact hardware faults causes these reboots and why phone gets even hotter if you keep it on boot loop. If I keep phone cold, the rom usualy stays normal, without reboots. but as soon as I start using my phone, texting or calling for at least 5minutes of using it just reboots.
as I said- really annoying thing :S
I remember my happy times with miui, apps and no reboots Was fun!
cheers for helping!
I would give full wipe / factory reset a chance, and maybe RUU.
At least try it before sending phone to htc.
It is hardware problem, search forum. Fresh ROM without SD card, enabled WIFI and GPS, running G navigation, back of the phone is warm - restart after few minutes.
Maybe someone know how to read info form the phone right before reset? We could understand why the phone is reseting and hopefully add some patch.
Reboot-loop experience
Hey,
i had the same problem over the last few months: In the beginning my phone restarted only when it got hot, but it got worse over the last few weeks, in the end i was not able to use two apps at the same time (music and mytracks) or even to surf the internet longer than a few minutes. The problem did noticeably decrease when the phone was cool - tested by putting it on a fan or in the fridge. Yet, Skype was regularly killing it. As i really love my phone (and especially the AMOLED-Screen!) i did not want to resign. The battery cover contains some metal which is supposed to enhance heat dissipation - so i attached a little thermal pad to the hotter bottom of the phone to improve contact with the head spreader. Unfortunately it did not entirely fix the problem. Yes, it improved the situation a little, but it got even worse after a week or two - in the end i had to turn it in.
So i decided to take it to the Telekom-Shop. They were very kind and told me they would call the other day to confirm that the replacement would have been shipped. It took a few days longer, but i got a phone with the AMOLED-Screen! The employee said it was a used mainboard in a new case, completely refurbished. They only replaced the main unit, i kept the battery, sd-card, charger and so on. Now i have a working Desire again!

Many problems with my One X recently

Hey guys,
I have always been very satisfied with my One X, but it's starting to piss me right off.
Since the last update (1.29.401.11) the GPS isn't working with my phone anymore. In addition I have a yellow spot on my display which doesn't disappear.
Today I returned from my holiday abroad and I wanted to connect to my wifi network at home, but it just doesn't work. If I click "connect" nothing happens.
Seems like my formerly perfect working One X has turned into the most horrible one with every problem you could think of.
I did try a hard reset earlier, but it didn't fix the issues. Can I expect the problems to be fixed with the next update (4.04 or 4.1), or is it definitely a hardware fault?
Does anyone have any experience how long it approximately takes HTC to repair the phone? This is important, as I am planning to move to Germany soon and I am not sure if I should send the phone to HTC in Germany or the UK. I didn't unlock or root my phone, so I guess the warranty claim should be no problem at all. Do you think I can expect to receive a new phone instead of having mine repaired? as far as I know they will have to replace the display and the mainboard because of my problems, right? So a new phone would be the easier choice for them or am I wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!
You could try to flash the latest RUU, some who had WiFi problems now say they are fixed.
Won't hurt to try.
RUU can be installed on stock locked devices, so maybe something to look into?
You can get the RUU from my Dropbox link.
http://db.tt/eYSlILnf
Enter fastboot on phone,
Plug in usb cable to phone from PC
Should now say fastboot USB on phone
Double click RUU on PC to install

Since your on 1.29.401.11 you can flash the 2.17.401.2 RUU which is the latest from htc. You dont have to be htc dev unlocked to flash it. It might fix the radio issues that you are having. If not it might be a hardware problem so you would have to send it to htc. I have never sent any of my htc phones back for a fix (touch wood) so i cant comment on that.
You can find the RUU In this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604 The thread does have mirrors for the RUU if you dont have a file factory account.
Hope it helps :cyclops:
Thank you so far! I just flashed the new RUU, but it didn't fix any of my problems.
The worst about this is, that I didn't know that a factory reset is performed during the process, I thought it's just like installing the automatic updates, so I didn't do a backup of my latest data. I don't blame you for that, I should have thought of that before flashing the new RUU version.
Anyways, I guess I will have to send my phone to HTC to fix the problems.
HTC say their max turn around time is 1-2 weeks I'd give it 3 just to be safe and plan from that.
Another problem I have now after the RUU update: My phone is always saying "Damaged phone storage" and it is asking me to format the sd card. If I click cancel nothing happens, but I can't access the storage at all. If I connect the phone to the PC it doesn't give me the option to choose "Disk Drive", there is just "Charge only", "USB Tethering" and "Internet Pass through".
As I have some important data on the storage, I need to access my phone storage before sending my phone to HTC or formatting it.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
EDIT:
I just tried to connect to my Media Link HD and it works perfectly, still I cannot connect to my home wifi network. This is a bit weird, as the Media Link HD connects to the phone via wifi as well, doesn't it?

Sounds like the antenna connection hardware fault that also can affect the GPS antenna. See the start of this thread for info. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Flashing ROMs is not going to fix it, it is a known hardware fault. I'm wondering if your phone has run hot or has been stressed/bent, for example in your pocket, this potentially causes the broken antenna connections and might also have caused the yellow spot.
Regards
Phil
After another hard reset the wifi is working again, still having the GPS problems and the yellow spot though.
I actually don't think I ever bent the phone, of course I carry it around in my pocket, but that's what a phone should be made for, right? However, if it was bent in any way will this cause any problems with a warranty claim? The yellow spot doesn't really bother me as it is barely visible, but I have purchased Navigon a while ago and I would like to use it with my One X now, so I wanted to send the phone to HTC sooner or later to get it fixed.
The other day I tried to use Navigon on a short trip (around 20 miles) without expecting a GPS signal at all.
After like 5 Minutes it suddenly picked up a GPS signal and Navigon worked fine for approximately 10 miles. Then it suddenly just stopped again.
Is this really a hardware issue? Any ideas how to probably get it fixed without sending it to HTC?
If a flash of new ROM and hard reset doesnt fix your problems, its most likely hardware issue. Like everyone said, just send it back to HTC.
One x is a crap phone. Worst HTC device ever

Emergency calls only - no sim card

After a month's use, my HTC didn't read the sim. I noticed that when the phone was face up it would detect the sim. When face down, the sim wasn't being detected. So i did the tape trick and it worked. Then i installed the GPE RUU and DIDN'T BACKUP. Then it suddenly wouldn't detect the sim. Sometimes it would and it would last for an hour or two. Then it wouldn't. I have the middle east version HTC__J15 but changed the CID to 11111111. I tried flashing radios to no avail. I don't think it's a hardware issue because it works for a while then the moment i unlock the screen it suddenly disconnects. What seems to be the problem? Please help.
Also, does anyone know what radio is should use for HTC__J15? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

I guess i'll have to try cutting it down a bit. Sadly i don't think a new tray would work for me. I work at an AT&T store and tried one from our demo phone and another from a coworker's phone. My tray and sim work in their phones but neither of theirs will work in mine, so I think it's an internal problem. Yes I have flashed a custom ROM I had been on a GPe rom for several weeks when it started happening. Since then I have flashed an AT&T RUU to put it back to stock and it's still not registering. I know how to remove the "tampered" notice and lock the bootloader, but I'm worried that HTC will not repair my phone because it's S-OFF. I don't know what to do at this point.

I think there's a way to return to S-ON. I think it's more of a ROM issue I guess. Try flash a different ROM like ViperOne. Should work.

I'll give it a shot but I'm not hopeful that a new ROM will help. I was on a custom gpe ROM when it started and now I'm on stock and it's still doing it. I really hope it works though I would love to get my m8 back. Now that I think about it the gpe ROM I was on was heavily modified. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for your help BTW.

Hey @pokedroid, did you had any luck with this?
I am running into the same issue as you folks. I have a developer edition from HTC.com website which I was using with an existing T-Mobile microsim that I myself trimmed into a nano-sim. It worked really well since April 1st week until last 3-4 days, where the phone would lose network and even when it gets on the network, it does not actually do any data access. Sometimes the 3G/LTE icon shows up, but no real data transfer happens.
I visited T-Mobile store, where they gave me a new nano-sim. They also did a "network-refresh", whatever that means and I even did a factory reset at home later, however the problem persists. I was finally convinced it was a phone issue, especially since the network works fine on my Nexus 4 (with a sim adapter). I was pretty much on the verge of getting it replaced by HTC (hope it is not too painful) thinking it has something to do with the RADIO chip hardware. I I have only used a custom recovery and rooted the phone, and have been running stock rom after briefly trying an HTC-base ROM for a few days.
However this thread gives me hope that there could be something else going on maybe with the sim tray and surrounding parts. Maybe the metal unibody design does not lend itself well to these kind of defects.
I did accidentally drop my phone a few times in last few days, and whilte it has a TPU case it probably only does scratch protection and not much shock protection and might have caused issues with the sim tray. I am hoping I get it resolved on my own, doing a replacement will be a pain. Let me know how it worked out for you.
EDIT: So I tried adding a few layers of transparent tape just on the SIM card, to increase it thickness. No change. Then I tried trimming the edge of the sim slightly. This made the SIM move around even when trying to get the tray back in, but I was able to get it in right after holding it a bit while sliding it in. However still do not see any change, though the data did turn on briefly while I held the phone upside down, but it stopped after 3-4 MB. Is there a way of knowing if the SIM is being read correctly or something else is going on. I tried installing a SIM Info App which does seem to be able to read SIM info even when network is not connecting, is this a definitive sign that RADIO chip has issues? I have not changed anything in terms of ROM or radio in past several months, and just did a factory reset, so that rules out a software issue (I think).
Does anyone know personally of someone who's had their phone returned by HTC because of it being rooted or s-off? I sent my M8 for repair, the camera lens was scratched up. They replaced them and sent it back. (Free) but here is the kicker, I had s-off, and running ViperOne rom with the custom boot-up and log-off screens. It came back, lens fixed, been returned to stock. This is not the first time I have done this. Samsung did the same too. Here is what I think they do:
1) Unpack phone
2) plug phone into a terminal that returns it to the latest stock rom
3) Look for and fix problem
4) Reset the phone
5) Pack it up and send it back.
That has been my experience 100% of all the phones I had exchanged, whether with Verizon, AT&T or US Cellular.

Interesting experience there, and sounds like you have done it multiple times and with them returning the device without any hitch.
I personally never had to go for replacement so far, however this definitely makes me feel better about going about it. My HTC M8 is still showing the same problems as earlier and I have not quite been able to decide whether it is a bad sim tray or something else. I also wonder if my issue is different from @pokedroid and @tbc34 in that my SIM card is read for short periods, and LTE/3G icon shows up as well, but the data does not work and it goes back into out of network mode.
For replacement I will probably still see if going back to stock recovery/red warning text fix etc is easy enough, just in case I catch an HTC technician in a bad mood. EDIT In fact this other thread makes me want to be double sure I get phone back in full stock mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723409 . Fort. I have a dev edition, so HTC can't really say that I unlocked bootloader (though I wonder if such data travels back to them from the device via internet)
I have that problem since two days. Sometimes the phone is okay and sometimes he says only emergency. I wiped all, flashed a new rom, I've also opened the device but it seems all okay. Do you have any idea?

Try some Scotch tape on the SIM, on the side that doesn't have the gold contacts. Sometimes this will "thicken" the SIM so it makes better contact inside the tray (which is sometimes the reason phone will intermittently say 'no SIM').
Be careful you don't gum up the SIM tray with loose tape.
You can also try to get a new SIM for your carrier, and see if that works better (varying tolerances in the SIMs physical dimensions may help).
