Hope I can get some help with this annoying issue.
Phone looses date&time after the battery is plugged out. Also the automatic date&time settings don't work. Each time I take out the battery the phone resets to a very early date like 1980 or something like that.
I guess this is a hardware issue but how can I fix this?
Thanks for all the replies.

May be the reception is not good in you area.
Also do you have the automatic restore switched on?
I don't think it is about weak reception as I have a similar wildfire s and that one with the same simcard gets automatic date&time settings. And also that one does not loose the date&time when the battery is plugged out.

How about trying to Factory Reset the WFS that has the problem and setting it up from scratch.
Just an idea.
I also tried that and have reinstalled the whole stock rom. I mean a RUU from the scratch. But no luck.
Is it possible that having a different CID than the stock rom can cause a problem. Or is there anyone like me who changed the stock rom and has a different CID than his software. I used a goldcard to change the stock rom. The phone has originally HTC__044 but I have installed the europe RUU.

Sorry I don't know about CID's.
I'm having my own issues at the moment trying to create a Goldcard. Seems impossible for me. Nothing works, no matter what method I try.
Anyway, do you have the same ROM on both phones?
If so, then they should both work the same no matter what.
However, if you have a Custom ROM on one maybe there is something the phone simply does not like and therefore cannot continue to keep the Date&Time settings.
The other phone is HTC__Y13 which is already a europe version. Anyway I will try to download an Asia RUU version and see if it fixes it.
For you the easiest way to make a goldcard is goldcard tool which worked fine for me.

I finally found the problem. After a desperate trial of several softwares I decided to open up the phone.
The tapes over the connectors and a small battery were missing So I patched this by getting some tape over it and now it seems to work fine. Apparently it was somehow short-circuited by touching the back cover of the phone and probably some other parts as well.
Awkward how can HTC forget to place tape. I bought this phone from the internet so I had no warranty to bother myself as it takes ages to send and receive back. but I am also %100 sure it is not a refurbished phone as it is a trusty reseller I bought several times mobile phones. I already complained to the place I bought but anyway I am happy that the problem is resolved

I got mine brand new from O2 and still get this problem so its probably just HTC cutting corners, for a change. Pics of repair please so I can try and sort mine out.

Unfortunately I have already put my phone together, but if you watch the video below, go to minute 2:00 of the video and play. There you can see which connectors I mean. Or just watch any disassembly video on youtube to see what I mean.
I put a long tape covering the two connectors and the battery.
Hey guys,
Today my Galaxy Note 2 dropped 2 times from like 70 cm.
No defects apart from the fact that Internet doesn't work if not on wifi :s
I reflashed the last mb2 stock rom via odin so I can safely exclude software/settings probem right now....
What can I do?
I'd like to not bring it to Sammy because it would take at least 2 weeks and I wouldn't know how to live.
Soo, what would you check first?

Not sure about the wifi antena location tho, but I one had the back cover not completely closed. On the back of it there are 2 pinns which where not propely connected, as soon as I closed it, all started to work as it should. Take your back cover out and see of the pins from the phone and from the back cover are in good shape!
Other than that it sounds as you might have damaged something, I hope that it is not the case
You have just reflashed ROM or also factory reset it?
Thank God it's nothing internal guys.
I changed the sim and Internet works again.
My last sim was a normal sized sim, cut by hand to fit the nanosim slot.
Maybe it has moved a little bit when the phone dropped.
What I still can't understand is why cell line is ok and internel is not, and why internet won't start if I re-insert it ( tried three times ).
It seems like the sim got damaged when the phone dropped ( as strange as it sounds ).
It's not more a priority anyway, in fact if mods want, this thread can be closed.
Thank you.
I tried toggling it on after the 4.1.2 update, but it won't let me the upgrade was done through OTA and carrier is Fido. Same thing with Bluetooth. It just toggles back to off on it's own.
Any help or suggestions? I'm thinking of restoring it to factory. I'm enquiring for my mom's boyfriend. He does have SuperSU installed but I don't think it's rooted because I'm pretty sure he won't know how to do that. Could this be causing the program?
He's thinking about going back to the iPhone which in my opinion would be a huge mistake after witnessing the note 2 for power myself haha.
Just tried doing a Factory Reset to no avail. Still toggling from on (for a brief second) back to off.

Yeah that was going to be my next step, but then downloading the Firmware is going to take forever. I am thinking about flashing a Custom ROM so it will remove the bloatware with it. I'll update the thread when I get a chance.
EDIT: I was so smart yesterday that I flashed Stock Restore by accident and now I have to use someone's computer to flash CWM back into it or Unroot the phone...It was such a dumb mistake.........
Very well known to me issue...
1. Never attempt to undervolt Note 2, especially on low clocks. Don't play with RedPill kernel. Use stock, Adam or Perseus.
2. Flash stock 4.1.2
3. Shutdown, remove SIM, battery and SD card.
4. Press and hold the Power button for 30+ seconds (I used a full minute).
5. Insert the battery only, power on and try to enable BT and WiFi.
6. If succeeded - shutdown, insert SIM & SD, reassembly and power on. Verify again.
If not... you may try again or go to servicemen.
7. Later you can flash a custom ROM but beware of kernels and especially undervolt.
P.S. My old trusty Motorola Atrix doesn't like undervolt too. It looses BT...
Thanks man. It is super weird though because I don't think he had it rooted and I checked the Kernel that he had installed it showed it was the stock kernel. I will keep that in mine. I was also wondering and this maybe a newbie question. But n7100 can only flash stock n7100 4.1.2? I just find downloading the firmware will take forever.
Thanks for all your help guys. Will jeep you both updated.

Same Problem with WIfi and Bluetooth
I experienced the Same issue sometimes when i removed my battery i can turn on my WiFi and Bluetooth but after a couple of days the Wifi and Bluetooth can't turn on again. Anyone already fixed this issue?
The back cover serves as the Wifi antenna. When you open the back lid, the two gold prongs on the upper right are the connections to the back cover (antenna). Make sure the contacts are clean and the back lid is attached completely. When insufficient contact is established, wifi will not turn on.

This is NFS antenna. Seems having nothing to do with GHz range internal antennas.
Anyway will do no harm to have it properly attached.

Same problem over here
My problem has been on going since I bought thee damn thing
I bought it from someone for $500 back in April. The guy I bought it from must have been some sort of genius or something because every freaking repair place and computer places, in Tulsa, OK, have absolutely no idea what the guy that I bought it from did! I remember it had a custom ROM I think it was Jedix..sorry I am a noob and a girl at that :/
I have spent countless hours reading forum after forum to no avail.
So the guy that I bought it from asked me if I wanted regular 3g/4g speeds and wifi or fast internet speeds everywhere and no wifi. I, assuming that I could easily just turn wifi back on with the flip on the button, told him that I wanted fast internet and no wifi. I get home and try to flip wifi back on and nothing! Also no bluetooth. I was in contact with the guy that I bought it from and he did try to walk me through turning the wifi/bluetooth back on. He said it was simple..He had me wipe the cache, wipe the kernel, something to do with qual comm settings..blah blah I do not remember because it was months ago and so many things have been done to it since then. I shortly lost contact with him. If I am within 2 feet away from my router I can pick up great wifi but 3 feet away or further I am s.o.l. I can pick up a real weak connection in public places like my college or a hospital. I have paid every phone repair place and computer store here in Tulsa to try to fix it. They all do the same thing, just restore it with the exception of the last place that I took it to..they tried to but an older version on it thinking wifi/bluetooth had something to do with version it was on.
Please do not tell me that this is a hardware issue!- I have read countless forums and have read that I am not alone with this issue. It does however not look promising because I have never read of anyone fixing this issue. I have read things about it being the radio etc etc. I firmly believe that this is a software/programming issue however the people that I have seen this happen to never got it fixed..they eventually just gave up and bought new motherboards or new phones entirely. With that being said a motherboard could be a possibility..any ideas on how much a new motherboard cost? Sorry for being sooo long I am just so frustrated. This is such a beautiful phone and I have never gotten to fully take advantage of all of its capabilities because of this.
WIFI Bluetooth fix
Hello, I´ve also tried everything software related to no avail. So I finally disassembled the device as shown in videos found on youtube or elsewhere.
Google it!!
Reconnected the wifi chip. Turned the the device on and....wifi and bluetooth worked strongly!!! That fixed it for me!!
To be clear: I just took the screws and the plastic piece that covers the motherboard (Bee careful and patient and use the right tools!!). Then disconnected and reconnected the connector of the wifi chip, which is located right next to the lower volume button, on the board. It´s the only cable showing.
I´ve seen this problem on laptops, because of overheatin issues related to bad mainboard design, but I cannot be sure in this case without further testing.
I´ll see how long this fix lasts and I´ll keep posting.

After a month's use, my HTC didn't read the sim. I noticed that when the phone was face up it would detect the sim. When face down, the sim wasn't being detected. So i did the tape trick and it worked. Then i installed the GPE RUU and DIDN'T BACKUP. Then it suddenly wouldn't detect the sim. Sometimes it would and it would last for an hour or two. Then it wouldn't. I have the middle east version HTC__J15 but changed the CID to 11111111. I tried flashing radios to no avail. I don't think it's a hardware issue because it works for a while then the moment i unlock the screen it suddenly disconnects. What seems to be the problem? Please help.
Also, does anyone know what radio is should use for HTC__J15? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

I guess i'll have to try cutting it down a bit. Sadly i don't think a new tray would work for me. I work at an AT&T store and tried one from our demo phone and another from a coworker's phone. My tray and sim work in their phones but neither of theirs will work in mine, so I think it's an internal problem. Yes I have flashed a custom ROM I had been on a GPe rom for several weeks when it started happening. Since then I have flashed an AT&T RUU to put it back to stock and it's still not registering. I know how to remove the "tampered" notice and lock the bootloader, but I'm worried that HTC will not repair my phone because it's S-OFF. I don't know what to do at this point.

I'll give it a shot but I'm not hopeful that a new ROM will help. I was on a custom gpe ROM when it started and now I'm on stock and it's still doing it. I really hope it works though I would love to get my m8 back. Now that I think about it the gpe ROM I was on was heavily modified. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for your help BTW.

Hey @pokedroid, did you had any luck with this?
I am running into the same issue as you folks. I have a developer edition from HTC.com website which I was using with an existing T-Mobile microsim that I myself trimmed into a nano-sim. It worked really well since April 1st week until last 3-4 days, where the phone would lose network and even when it gets on the network, it does not actually do any data access. Sometimes the 3G/LTE icon shows up, but no real data transfer happens.
I visited T-Mobile store, where they gave me a new nano-sim. They also did a "network-refresh", whatever that means and I even did a factory reset at home later, however the problem persists. I was finally convinced it was a phone issue, especially since the network works fine on my Nexus 4 (with a sim adapter). I was pretty much on the verge of getting it replaced by HTC (hope it is not too painful) thinking it has something to do with the RADIO chip hardware. I I have only used a custom recovery and rooted the phone, and have been running stock rom after briefly trying an HTC-base ROM for a few days.
However this thread gives me hope that there could be something else going on maybe with the sim tray and surrounding parts. Maybe the metal unibody design does not lend itself well to these kind of defects.
I did accidentally drop my phone a few times in last few days, and whilte it has a TPU case it probably only does scratch protection and not much shock protection and might have caused issues with the sim tray. I am hoping I get it resolved on my own, doing a replacement will be a pain. Let me know how it worked out for you.
EDIT: So I tried adding a few layers of transparent tape just on the SIM card, to increase it thickness. No change. Then I tried trimming the edge of the sim slightly. This made the SIM move around even when trying to get the tray back in, but I was able to get it in right after holding it a bit while sliding it in. However still do not see any change, though the data did turn on briefly while I held the phone upside down, but it stopped after 3-4 MB. Is there a way of knowing if the SIM is being read correctly or something else is going on. I tried installing a SIM Info App which does seem to be able to read SIM info even when network is not connecting, is this a definitive sign that RADIO chip has issues? I have not changed anything in terms of ROM or radio in past several months, and just did a factory reset, so that rules out a software issue (I think).
Does anyone know personally of someone who's had their phone returned by HTC because of it being rooted or s-off? I sent my M8 for repair, the camera lens was scratched up. They replaced them and sent it back. (Free) but here is the kicker, I had s-off, and running ViperOne rom with the custom boot-up and log-off screens. It came back, lens fixed, been returned to stock. This is not the first time I have done this. Samsung did the same too. Here is what I think they do:
1) Unpack phone
2) plug phone into a terminal that returns it to the latest stock rom
3) Look for and fix problem
4) Reset the phone
5) Pack it up and send it back.
That has been my experience 100% of all the phones I had exchanged, whether with Verizon, AT&T or US Cellular.

Interesting experience there, and sounds like you have done it multiple times and with them returning the device without any hitch.
I personally never had to go for replacement so far, however this definitely makes me feel better about going about it. My HTC M8 is still showing the same problems as earlier and I have not quite been able to decide whether it is a bad sim tray or something else. I also wonder if my issue is different from @pokedroid and @tbc34 in that my SIM card is read for short periods, and LTE/3G icon shows up as well, but the data does not work and it goes back into out of network mode.
For replacement I will probably still see if going back to stock recovery/red warning text fix etc is easy enough, just in case I catch an HTC technician in a bad mood. EDIT In fact this other thread makes me want to be double sure I get phone back in full stock mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723409 . Fort. I have a dev edition, so HTC can't really say that I unlocked bootloader (though I wonder if such data travels back to them from the device via internet)
I have that problem since two days. Sometimes the phone is okay and sometimes he says only emergency. I wiped all, flashed a new rom, I've also opened the device but it seems all okay. Do you have any idea?

Try some Scotch tape on the SIM, on the side that doesn't have the gold contacts. Sometimes this will "thicken" the SIM so it makes better contact inside the tray (which is sometimes the reason phone will intermittently say 'no SIM').
Be careful you don't gum up the SIM tray with loose tape.
You can also try to get a new SIM for your carrier, and see if that works better (varying tolerances in the SIMs physical dimensions may help).
Not sure what happened, but I've been using my S4 good. Out of no where it started acting up, freezing on me, etc. It's on latest firmware, 4.4.4 OK3. When i look under about phone, and check "service state", it would randomly say, "in service" then "radio off", "out of service" then go back to "in service". Also had/have a problem (haven't tested it for a good while yet, had old sim in and it gave problems, now using new sim, still did it one time atm.) with the phone saying "sim removed" or etc, like it cant find a sim? (weird part is my old sim works fine with other phones, my phone kept losing sim, sim no found, etc)
Weird, never had it happen, bars would go from 2 to 4-5, then drop to 1-3, or to 0 and go out of service. I did factory reset, but ofc it only went back to OK3 stock, tried to use previous modem that worked for me before problems started happening like NK2 modem, nope...still problems, so I flashed OK3 back for now. If i have good bars, and turn on mobile data, it would go out of service completely until i shut it off, cant use my mobile data. Anyone know what's the problem? Phone right now running with minimal apps installed, if you need more information, just ask. Thank you! in advance.
Used the phone for a day with new sim, still has problems freezing up on calls(screen), says sim removed...device needs to restart, etc. Would Flashing older Firmware to like Nk2 solve this? I havent had problems on older ones, but when i got OTA, used for couple months and having problems now. Service keeps being circle with line thru it, when u try to make a call it would say "cannot connect to network or registered on network", dbm was -113(usually -100-115), and asu was 0, when service cuts off, keeps finding service then loses it all day, finds it, then make few calls, and loses it, keeps searching for it. Would flashing OK3 firmware solve it? Maybe OTA went wrong? Idk...or maybe go back to a stable rom 4.4.2?

Not sure how it could have been damaged, it was always in a case.(guess i saw a video where a guy said they sometimes go bad on gs4's) Phone already been used for pretty good 1.5-2yrs. Phone freezing up, etc would result in a bad sim reader? Anyway to test that it really is a bad sim reader?(if it did go bad)
Was the sim card used with a sim adapter?
I suggested the possibility of a damaged SIM card reader because of the "sim removed" error message.

The previous sim that was origionally used in GS4, was used with sim adapter in an older phone that needed a standard sim, so this micro sim was was in adapter in an older phone, worked perfectly fine on Gs4(no sim adapter, just the micro sim), i even got a new sim card off ebay and changed over my number to new sim, and still phone is freezing up on calls, using it normally now, the signal would find the Carrier, then would lose it so many times, then tries to find it, then loses thru out the day, it's annoying as hell. Never had the problem of losing signal, having out of service sign(circle with line thru it), had good service everywhere till now. I even did a factory reset, started up phone up new, still problems with "sim removed" device needs to restart time to time, losing and catching signal a lot, or no service. Anyway to test/find out it really is a bad sim card reader? Just don't want to do 100's of things and it's not it. Phone it used for work ofc. Let me know if i should try anything, before buying a sim card reader, if it really is the problem.
How is the sd card reader? Both readers come as a single unit and they are not too expensive on eBay.

Not really sure, how the sd card reader is...Haven't really used it, as i didnt really need it. I could try and get back to you on that. Yeah, i checked on ebay, they r like 5$ or so, but still the hassle of replacing it, and it's not it. I'll get back to you how sd card works...etc.
Edit: Just tested my brothers Sd card with tons of pictures and videos on it. Put it in my phone, can easily look thru pictures and videos, unmounted couple times, put it in, works fine without any problems. Any ideas?
Also read online about sim error problem, and lots of people are saying it could be a hardware problem, and need to apply pressure to the ribbon of the sd/sim card.
Phone is working fine without the simcard inside, good bars, sometimes it goes low/no bars, or out of service, but still less then it is with a sim inside for some reason.

Thank you! in advance.

This is a known issue with the S4. Mine did the exact same thing. I have researched this and tried every fix under the sun, and nothing worked. I even bought a new sim card tray and replaced it. Nothing worked, and I babied this phone. My wife and daughter also have the S4 the same age and theirs are fine. I gave up and bought a new phone. Wish I could give you better news.

So you pretty much saying it's a hardware issue and nothing can be done to solve it? Thought maybe flashing older firmware or something might solve it, perhaps a hiccup in OTA update or the latest patch that could've caused it. Kinda sad to just throw it away when it was working soo good.... =/
OK, one question? How is the inside of your phone that damaged and beat up? Jeez man, take better care of that thing.

It is sad. And if you google the problem, you'll see a lot of S4 owners were mad that Samsung doesn't acknowledge the issue. I think somewhere on this site you'll find this subject covered in full. Some of the fixes work for a short time, but ultimately it is a hardware problem. Some think it's the NFC chip that is right under the tray (supposedly) that heats things up and causes the malfunction. Whatever it is, it has turned my S4 into a infrared remote for my TV, a Chrome caster for Netflix and Hulu, and an iPod Touch!

Rofl....At least you're still putting it to a good use It was a pretty good phone too rofl. Have you tried everything from putting a piece of foam(ear plug) over the ribbon for the sd/sim that lots of people talked about, etc? I guess if there is no real solution, I'll get get a new phone, prolly an iphone or w.e., had an eye on Gs6 Active cuz of long battery, durable, dust/water proof, etc, Gs6 is nice too but I'm in construction, and it's always in my pocket, need something that can last, and you know, keep a good charge while using everyday use like gps, listening to music, etc. What did you go for after your Gs4 stopped on you?

Yes sir, tried them all!
I like a large screen, The S4 was the first phone I owned that had a screen larger than 4". So, I had to go even larger now. I picked up an Nexus 6 when they dropped the price after the 6P came out. My wife and daughter still have their S4's, so I keep up with the latest here for them.
damn shame... i just dropped to 4.4.4 with the NH7 kernal and modem set... still nada. I had a bit of luck with the separating the right side of the phone trick for a bit, but even that doesnt work anymore... I have a note 3 that im using for a daily driver... but i really find its too large for my taste. The s4 was pretty close to the perfect size for me. Prob gonna scoop up an S6 in a couple weeks. Ill keep it around as desk clock prob and a back up for when i drop and smash the s6 to pieces. I swear the wifi and bt were working till i installed the JDCTeam MM build back in december i think. Which made me think it was software related. Ever since then its been doneski... But tbh at this point, everythings pointing to hw issues...
this $#!T is weird...
I admit defeat...
Well, looks like i kept getting the stupid sim card removed often even with w.e solutions i tried to use. Then out of nowhere my usb port stopped working altogether(cant charge my battery now lol). I give up, don't want to waste money into usb port, then something else falls apart rofl. My other Gs4 also worked for 2.5yrs or so, and died. R.I.P Galaxy S4's lol. Don't think they were built to last.
