Last few days been getting shut downs from hell when trying to compile as i stated before. So Today i was on a mission to open this thing up and figure out just what was going wrong. Alas I had no screw drivers that will fit the housing but i did notice there was alot of Gunk on the fan. So i grabbed a big industrial size can of compressed air and a vacuum cleaner. For those of you that dont know what a vacuum is ask your wife she will know. Took can of compressed air and blew out the fan while it sucked out the dirt which shockingly there seemed ot be alot. So i also sprayed in the vents tell No dust came out anymore doing this between the fan and the vents to get anything that might have been stuck.
So after about 10 mins of this (was making sure). Booted laptop went to compile after about a few mins it died again. Wasn't to happy bout that. So I sprayed again found 2 little fir balls got some tweasers and pulled em out.. Turned on laptop again this time the fan was going faster then low and behold 2 puffs of dust came out been working great ever sense lol..
Something to consider, just had a buddy build me a new tower, with a 64bit AMD quad core APU, and 8gb of ram(compiles pretty darn fast) for only about 300 shipped...

I had a similar problem with my laptop randomly crashing every couple minutes when decompiling 1080p movies. Cleaned up the fan and under the CPU. Also re-applied Arctic Silver 5 to the CPU and it's been running cooler and perfect since
Sent from my ICSed T-989
Everyone were I work gets a new laptop every 2 years and our IT guy is constantly on us to make sure we are keeping them clean and then fan ports cleaned and that the fans are running properly. If not he does just what you did clean them with canned air and a vacuum and everything keeps working fine.
Not a bad idea to do it every other week or so.
Repairing computers for my friends, sometimes as a little side business/hobby...this is always one of the items I make sure to pay attention to. After I clean the software...I clean the hardware...blow all the dust off...windex wipe the whole thing (except MacBooks...POS apparently can't handle a damp windex wipe...killed the trackpad on my GF's laptop...thankfully she had apple care...clearly its true the things are designed to never be maintained...). Can't tell you how much cooler and faster a laptop can go from a simple cleaning of its internals.

Be extremely careful with vacuum cleaners around computers, they create a lot of static electricity and can cause micro fractures on circuitry.

Buy a tpu case. It is like 9.99 on Amazon and has saved my phone a number of times. Once my headphone cord got hooked on a door and caused me to throw my phone to the floor (not drop, throw lol). Picked it up and the phone was fine.
You will have to cut the volume rocker out of the case. It is insanely hard to press for some reason. I used a knife and scissors to cut the volume rocker out of the case, was easy to do, once you get the hole you can almost finish by hand just by tearing it.

as of right now, sprint really doesn't have a policy about phones that are rooted other than putting it back to stock. If the problem is still there after the stock rom is on the phone, then it is still covered. tell you the truth if your nice to the techs and let them know its rooted they most likey won't care... atleast i wouldn't
Stop playing basketball with your phone! and congrats they helped ya in the pinch
Seriously guys almost all of us (techs at sprint) are rooted and rommed and could care less if you are, but there really are times when it can help us get things taken care of faster if you just say it and don't try to deny it. We still cover all the same stuff we would if you weren't rooted. Plus its cool to see some of the stuff people have running on their phones

Good luck it's a great job. Could pay better, but free cell phone bill, decent benefits package, plenty of opportunities to get free phones, being around technology all the time...I love it. Plus it's easy as cake, so long as you have customer service and/or inventory experience. (Being tech oriented, of course, is an assumption lol)

y phone fell into a pail with water it was in there about 5 to 10 seconds. i pulled the battery out and used a blow dryer and put the battery back in and the flash came on. is that a good sign? dont know what else to do. did i screw things up by trying to turn it on without letting it dry out all night? i had this happen once before but never saw the flash come on as soon as the battery was put back in. im hoping for some good news because im not paying assurion 100 bucks, ill just upgrade but i still love my epic. thanks guys
I would've left the phone off for a day or so. I dropped mine in the sink once and after a day of waiting and blow drying I powered it up and the soft buttons were blinking and not responding but it eventually cleared itself up. It was weird.

Confusious is right.. Remove battery and any protective shell, fill a mayo jar or large McDonalds cup or whatever you have that is larger than your phone with dry rice, then stick your phone in then fill the rest of the way with rice. Let set for like 24 hrs. The rice will absorb ALL the moisture. And then you should be golden.
FYI... You should never turn on an electric devise before it is completely dried out first. And never use hot air on an electronic device. I just assumed those were common sense.
My 1.5 year old stuck my epic in the aquarium it was completely under for at least 1 full min. Before I saw it. And the rice trick worked for mine. Left it in the rice for like 2 days though for good measure.
Hope this helps others in the future.

Put your phone inside rice leave it there for a couple hours the rice helps to absorb the excess liquid it worked for me couple times good luck with your phone

I used silica gel cat litter on my daughter's phone after it spent a few seconds in a warm bubble bath.
Three days later, it worked a ok. Silica gel is that dessicant inside little white bags labelled 'DO NOT EAT'.
Same idea as rice. We had some of the silica gel cat litter on hand, unused of course, so it seemed like a good option.

I just hope it will still be available because I believe the SGS 4 will be out mid May. I can't upgrade till the 17, I just want to figure out what my best option is. I want to get the best phone for the cheapest price and really the SGS III seems to be it. Anyone have any other opinions? My only worry is the phone may be a little to big.
Maybe the s3 will become free after s4 is out

I debated the DNA as well, but went with the Galaxy S3 when it was cheap. I probably have average size hands, and I definitely have had to adjust to using a bigger phone, but I don't think it's so much the size as the fact that Samsung phones are so slick. My inc2 never slipped in my hands, but I have to be very careful with the GS3 since it is so slick. I don't like cases so I'm trying to figure out a non-redneck way of making it more grippy.

A few guys here mentioned getting the galaxy s3 of places like eBay, to avoid losing their unlimited data plans, which is the same boat I'm in.
Is there anything specific I should look for and make sure when buying a phone off places like eBay? I seem to see a lot being listed at ~$300
So far my only experience has been getting the phones through "upgrade" with Verizon. Buy I haven't had the need to worry about data plans before my Inc2, so this is kind of new for me.
Thanks.
I'm so ready to get a phone that is actually supported well, officially.
I was thinking about buying one off contract, but its still pricey. I'm probably going to go with 4gb of data because I use a lot of wifi. I just want my bill to be below $100

Left phone outside last night and woke up with it pouring rain. Needless to say water got in the phone. Both camera are water logged now and the usb port is acting up saying its on charger when its not. Anybody have any ideas to maybe get the water out quicker besides rice in a bowl trick. Thanks

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Front camera is still shot and usb port damaged i guess it charges but even when i unplug it it still says its charging but battery level keeps going lower not higher. I guess i will give it a few more days then get it repaired if needed. Tried to open the phone myself and got every screw out but the one on the side and just my luck it stripped so needless to say I couldn't get the back off without breaking it...go figure!!!!

I wouldn't even turn it on for at least 3 days

Sounds good but my backup phone is even worse because my little boy slammed it. So it only works half the time and cuts off by itself

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
