i know this will be something that you are probably already seek of reading but i really would like some answers.
I have a new desire z , i already did the tutorial to root and s-off the phone, now i would like to know what roms do you guys recommend me to install.
please give options for roms with and without sense.
thanks!
1) Whatever looks good to you
2) Whatever meets your performance/feature requirements.
Unless you specify what you are looking for in a ROM, its hard to narrow down. There are tons of these threads and the common answer is "try some".
Not trying to be a jerk, but it really comes down to what you want/like.

is there any fully functional ics rom for the desire z?

Best ICS ROM i have used till now - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492461 . Though this is also not fully functional.
I don't feel sense ROMs are fast enough :-/ But as biohazard said, it all depends on individual.
I've tried the ICS roms and I'm just not satisfied with them as a dailey driver yet. They'll get there, my biggest thing is the glitchy cameras. I'm excited for the time when ICS roms are 100% working.
I've tried just about all the roms out there, except sense 4.0. I keep finding myself going between CM7 and Virtuous Glite. I like the performance and customization of ILWT and I like the long battery of Glite.
I like that ILWT seems to be the only CM based rom that has a GPS fix.
I really like sense, but they're too laggy for me so far. Maybe, I just haven't found the right one?
The question of "what is the best/favorite ROM" gets asked a couple times a week. Just browse through this forum and you will find plenty of threads with opinions on ROMs.
As already mentioned, everyone has different needs and tastes. What is one person likes, may not be the best for you. Just do some reading, and you will find the benefits and features of the various ROMs, then pick one from there.
Just flashed this mod : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495255
I love it, but having an issue with the wifi with 2.0.
Good luck!

i tried some roms with htc sense but they are a little slow for me.
what is the difference between CM7 and ILWT CM7?

Well, basically, ILWT is CM7 on steroids. Many optimizations for battery life/performance.

There is a stickied thread right in the subforum you (wrongly) posted this in.
Not to jump on a "noob" but this shouldn't have been posted and this should've been in Q&A anyways.
At this point, I would recommend MikFroyo v4.3

I saw it, saw the rom names, versions, release dates, root methods
that isnt my question though, what is the difference between them? advantage of one over the other?
The difference would be how they look. The kernels would be for how they perform.
from my EVO using XDA app.
I seriously doubt someone is going to post all the differences of all the Rom's on here and tell you what each one does best. Every Rom is different on every phone. Sense based Rom offer all options like 4G and HDMI. AOSP Rom's are based on Open Source Android and are not build on HTC Sense and some things don't work in them like 4G, HDMI, video recording, etc...I have flashed many, many Rom's and have read many many threads. The way I learned about them is by reading the OP of the Rom thread to see what all the dev says about the Rom and what's included and what isn't. Then I will go through and read like the last 5-10 pages of the thread to see what kind of problems and/or what people are saying about the Rom. I will also read other pages of the thread if I am interested. I then flash the Rom I am interested in, play with it for a few days and if I don't like it I try something else. For some reason I always come back to CyanogenMod even though HDMI and 4G(stable) are not working yet.
No one can tell you which rom is best for you or your phone. Every person has a different personality and even every EVO is a little bit different about how it reacts to certain kernels and Rom's. Maybe if you tell us what you are looking for in a Rom we could point you in the right direction to certain Rom's that offer what it is you want.
Hey all I'm an epic user who is getting an evo next week and I have a more specific rom choice quetion. Having never owned a sense device but always sort liking the sense clock and lockscreen I was thinking of trying myns rom (don't remember if that is the dev or the rom). However, with not having wimax in my area or the desire to output video through my phone the progress of cm7 seems very tempting.
I suppose what I'm asking is whether or not cm7 is really at the point where it could be a daily driver (and which one to use) and whether or not you can get the real sense clock/lockscreen on it and if not how good performance/battery wise is myns? Thanks in advance!

Don't think you can get the Actual sense clock for CM7, but I use a free widget from the market called Sense Analog Clock which is a skinnable clock that looks a lot like the HTC clock, but not only shows the weather, but can show system info as well like battery %, free sdcard available, free ram, free Rom and Battery Temp. Very nice. As for CM7 being a daily driver, I have been using Lithid's daily compile's of CM7 for a couple weeks now and never had a problem. There are a few quirks and bugs here and there, but for the most part it does what it should and is very fast. Give it a try and if you don't like it flash a Sense Rom. That's the best part of being rooted. You are not stuck with one choice on your phone's OS.

Oh ya I love flashing. However its a lot easier to try them all when there are just 9ish good ones like on the epic. The evo has just hundreds (or at least it seems so). I suppose that is the benefit to having froyo source. I've used the sense clock from the market as well as beautiful widgets. Thank you so much for your input! I was definitely leaning towards cm7 but
I hadn't found that release. Ill take a gander at it now.

You don't need to read all the thousands of posts. Just usually the first two or three where the dev describes the rom and the changelog and how to flash.
It's hard to keep a summary up to date. There has been attempts to summarize roms and/or kernels and they all just change too often.
For now, the roms seem to fall into four groups:
SENSE based with full Sense: Myn, Fresh, MikFroyo, Sprint Lovers, Calkulin's Evio
SENSE based but little or no Sense: EvoNonSense, Valpaek, EvoNeo, Burnt Droid
AOSP - 2.2 Android: CM 6.1.2, MIUI
AOSP - 2.3 Android: Gingerbread
It's easier to just browse the development section because there are a lot of ROMs. I just listed the ones I've tried at one point and can remember.

In my opinion the question is not "Witch is the best Android 2.3 rom for HTC Desire ?", it is " Witch of these Android 2.3 roms is more suitable for me ?"
I say that becouse i try all the roms from the launch of HTC Desire until now and i like all of them. I`ve had miui rom for like an haf a year at the start, becouse i didn`t like so much Android 2.2 froyo, then i migrate to the cook of devs around XDA, and CM7, Oxygen also.
I think that, when you have a free day, you should try these roms: MIUI, CM7, the one made by baadnewz, it`s much stable than the others for now, the one made by Alex (i like his roms from when he start doing stuff for HTC Desire).
I think these is the big categories made by me.
Personaly i like and use for now the one made by baadnewz (the stable v1.0.8)
If youd like effects you shoud try MIUI first.
If youd like simplicity and speed you shoud try CM7.
If youd like sense and a little speed you shoud try the one made by baadnewz.
Without anger, i apreciate all the work from all the devs around here. I have a big respect upon them (i`m not able to do anything then flash a rom )
This is just my opinion.
MIUI of course
I think the question is incorrect. Everyone chooses what he likes, what fits his needs more.
Want latest HTC Sense, that was not designed for Desire, but theoretically can run there - go for RCMixS
Want slim and quick but naked ROM - go for Oxigen
What pros of CM I don't know. Basically it's like fat Oxygen, with added features.
Despite they look different, but have very similar concept of UI. MIUI has different approach, which for my taste is much more successful. As it claims on MIUI official website, it takes best of Android and iPhone. Totally agree. Tried latest RCMixS after I tested MIUI and couldn't keep it even couple days, returned back to MIUI.
But it's of course my opinion.
Non-existent!

Sorry, but there's no such thing as "the best ROM" for any device. There's ROM's you like and ROM's you don't. That's like asking what's the best film, or best music track, or best food. Everyone has their own opinion which is why life is so much fun!
Personally, I've been using Baadnewz InsertCoin Nightly for weeks (now on v43). Superb Gingerbread ROM and lot's of great features from Sense 3 too
I prefer insertcoin. Very fast, no lags, bugs - everything is ok
This is Development forum and I believe this thread needs to be moved.
And I rather prefer Oxygen Everyone basically likes different ROM, but better one is with smaller amount of bugs

Hi.
I´m addicted to InsertCoin too.

I User IC v43, withe Alex Diaz Theme 13 (Found on IC Downloadpage too)
But i suggest, you download 2-3 ROM´s you "like", and install them, and find out which one is Great for you

stop spamming here its a dev section
Since I got the phone with Sense on it I take preference to Sense ROMS, I have also tried MIUI and AOSP ROMS like Cyanogen and GingerVillain all of them offer something that the other would be lacking.
So for me out of the 3 variants these are what I use,
• Sense ROM: Reflex S
• AOSP ROM: GingerVillain
• MIUI ROM: MIUI XJ
I use all of them and I change every few weeks when I feel for a change of scenery, they all for are the best ROM because they are made by the best developers.
As for the BEST ROM for you, thats is your decision!!!
A very generic question in a wrong section.
Hi,
I think this post is usefull so different users can state why they choose this or that ROM.
In my case I currently use MIUI (from XJ) mostly because that ROM is fast, has a very nice interface, the menus are very different from stock android, the phone/dial and messages apps are great. However sometimes I get some FCs in Camera app so sometimes I like to install the Leedroid Sense ROM as I also like he Sense UI. However in the last Leedroid ROMs the notifications area is too transparent so some notifications are hard to see (not sure if you can change that) so I get back to MIUI.
After reading this thread I'm now going to try the insertcoin ROM and maybe the CM7. The only thing with non sense roms is the phone/dial app, even apps like Go Contacts are not as fast and usefull as the one with sense or MIUI.
Of course there's no such thing as the best ROM, but for each person there are some ROMS that are better.
Cheers.
There is no best rom. It depends on personal preferences.

Also another question i have is can you flash things from one gb rom to another like for example "Volume button music track skip?" from cm7 to gingervillian?
Members...can you please suggest some good & completely working ROMs for G2 (with Sense 3.0 preferably) ...
Havent tried them yet, since im still unrooted, but i've done some extensive research of the available roms with sense (reading through all the threads, and comments...) and have narrowed the list with a top 3 which im considering using:
in order of preference (from what i've researched of course...and this is personal):
1)MikRunny v1.01
2)RunnyDrOiD v3.0
3)BeatMod BlissSense Hybrid
Hope this helps, but again, havent tried them yet...

If you're looking for something with Sense I would recommend Virtuous or CoreDroid ROMs.
http://www.virtuousrom.com/
http://www.coredroidroms.com/site/
different releases of those you can find in the development section aswell.
so far I've tested Affinity and Unity latest releases from Virtuous and they seem fine.
If you would change your mind and rather want a smooth fast ROM instead a Sense one (that's pretty much the deal I guess, Sense ROM are propably always slower) I would tell you to go for Virtuous G-lite:
[ROM][12/12/2011] Virtuous G-Lite v2.0.1 :: GB AOSP HTC/G2 base 2.16.531.5
Running it atm, makes me really satisfied I rooted my phone
Ofc there are many other CM7 based ROMs around, you just have to try them out yourself to find what suits you best I guess.
Goodluck

Most every ROM in the development section is "good and completely working" aside from a couple listed as alphas, and the ICS ROMs (which still have some bugs, but many still use as daily drivers).
There is no "best" ROM. It depends on your personal needs and preferences. Asking what is "best" is an insult to the developers that put a lot of time and effort to get these ROMs to us. Threads like this are tiresome, since they get asked all the time. Just browse or search the forum, and you will find plenty of suggestions.
If you like fast and simple look go with CM7
It is a valid question

No need to be harsh; Not all ROM's are the same, there are some which perform better than others. We do appreciate the work being done by developers, but I think you were unfairly harsh to the person who asked that question. It is a valid question
Why Sense?
Far as ICS Roms go, the one in my signature has been my favorite of the batches (basically a customized Rom using the CM9 Kernel with AOKP user base and his own G2/Vision specific tweaks).
my favorite sense roms were Virtuous Primadonna v1.21.0 Alpha 3 and InsertCoin Vision v1.7.1. out of sense 3.0-4.0 roms that i tried only the primadona had a working camera but audio recording didn't work in some apps. those roms are pretty slow... if you really want sense i'd recommend InsertCoin Vision v1.7.1. it was the only one that had working camera and audio that i tested. in any event you'll eventually get annoyed with how slow all the sense roms are if you like tweaking your phone often. that's why i switched to ics. the adroma mimicry is the fastest rom i've tried.
Andromadus Mimicry (1.1.2) gives you ICS in CM9 flavour with some additional tweaks (V6 supercharger, OC daemon etc.) and customizations (boot animation). Some of them you can choose at install time. It's fastest and most stable CM9 based ROM so far. I'm using it as a daily driver and I am fully satisfied.
I agree with people suggesting AOSP ICS ROMs. I also liked Sense until I tried CM9 beta for the first time and now I don't think that I'll ever use Sense again. You can try this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687324) if you want something that resembles Sense 4, but is fully functional unlike current Sense 4 ROMs for DZ.
I'd suggest you try the one in my sig, though, that's what I'm using right now and it's really fast and stable, but I don't think you can go wrong with any CM9 based ROM, they differentiate only in details.
Hi,
I'm usually a LG Optimus Speed user but my friend got a HTC Desire. He's not that much into updating ROMs and stuff and atm he is on one of the latest official cm7 nightlys.
Now that he is here we want him to get a new ROM but as I can see there are so much of them out there and I just wanted to ask you if you could give me an advice in what ROM could be good for him. It shouldnt be a build with lots of bugs and stuff cause he can't update it etc. It should be stable and working fine without difficult tweaks etc.
Thanks for your help!
What does he want from a phone?
What does he want from a User Interface? (Does he want sense?)
What are his disappointments with the phone so far?
lol..Psychoanalysis?
Yes.
OP, ask your friend if a tree falls down in the forrest, will there be any sound? The answer to this will determine whether miui is worth trying or not.
He already had MIUI once a few month ago and he (same as me) diskliked it. Cause of the missing App Drawer and stuff.
He want a stable phone. A working camera, if it is possible smooth scrolling. I think a modern ICS rom or something like that should be fine. He is not that of a hardcore user with benchmarks and stuff.
Stable and ics don't mix together.
ok lemme try that, ics looking but I think thats gonna be no problem with go launcher etc. He is used to CM7, perhaps something like that out there?
forgive me, I was being facetious. I dont like miui either.
Well IMHO, we're looking at AOSP / Sense 2.0 (or lower) Gingerbread ROM. What do you think DZ?
Quite agree. If he doesn't want to play with dialers and launchers, get him a stock sense ROM. Else let him try Sense and Aosp Gingerbread and decide. You can flash each, take recovery images and demo them.
Yep.
Well he is on a CM7 nightly, so he probably has a reasonable idea of the aesthetics of AOSP.
If I wanted to recommend an AOSP ROM (with obvious exception of course) I wouldn't necessarily say CM7 was the best rom to use as an example for smoothness and performance. Oxygen is usually a good place to start with AOSP. Or maybe even Mildwild.
different Launchers etc are no problem. We are just looking for some easy update. Like I said, its the latest official CM7 nightly (from november I think).
What do you think about Runnydroid or MildWild?
Once again ive just had a look at the brilliant desire index: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
and the best 2.0 or lower sense ROM imho is actually SuperNova Extreme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
or Cool IceCream Sense which is Gingerbread sense 2.0 but has an ICS feel to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016
I dont see runnymede being particularly fast, smooth or bug free. We're looking at a rom thats for a much newer device than the desire. Its close to the boundaries of what the desire can do.
Mildwild (Oxygen based one) has reportedly good battery life and if the theme is liked, probably a good choice. Lots of script tweaks in there. Or simply Oxygen that it is based on.
I haven't tried MildWild though, but if I were to, it would be the oxy version.
OP, I would recommend the roms of the first two people who replied to you. Droidzone for Sense rom and rootSU for AOSP, take your pick.

I just installed the MildWild and its working fine so far! Just another question. Do we have to install a new kernel or adjust ril/bb settings somehow?
RIL and Kernel packaged in the rom should be fine. Shouldnt be any need to change. Infact its a _thalamus kernel. I dont think there is any better for oxygen (Assuming you went for the oxygen version?)

Sandvold's ROM is still in beta. You can use, but you'll find it pretty buggy...like any ICS ROM on Desire.
Look for something else like InsertCoin or one of the Runny ROMs.
And thanks for not bothering to read the other 50 "which ROM is best for me?" threads. They were all pointless and written by people that can't read and have no sense of adventure to try things for themselves and maybe learn a thing or two.
O...wait...
And everyone complained instead of answering the guy.
If you want speed, I'd say you should stick with most of the Gingerbread ASOP roms. Nowadays they are pretty much stable.
If you want beauty, you could try the sense roms, but with those I'd read the comment section to see what everyone thinks. Some make your phone a very pretty bloated mess that drags itself... Others run quite well.
Above all, make sure you read the instructions on all of them, some require specific things in order to run and I'm sure you don't want to ruin your phone.
My opinion:
Best AOSP: CM, but others say other gingervillain
Best Sense: Insertcoin
Best Sense 3.5: runnymede aio (very stable a fast, lagfree, but awfull battery drain)
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
My 2 cents;
Best ASOP- CM7x Stable. Not a lot of options though.
Best Sense 3.5 RSK ver7.0 Good choice of kernels on install.
Now im totally confused
I want a stable, fast Rom for my HTC. Doesnt need much functions additionally cause its a present for my mother
Perhaps Ginger might be the best.
You thought of this "Insertcoin"?
[N]InsertCoin CM7/A2SD+ STABLE------------------------->[1.1.4/15th/September/2011/Development Discontinued]
But it is marked with a N? Should i use it anyway?
Ok, lets do it this way: You know what I want, i want a smooth, nice phone with normal functions. Now tell me which rom i should use and im happy
Thx a lot!
I've been using ICS Sandvold for a while and to be honest most things are working and I've found it just as fast as the Leedroid ROM I was on before.

Sandvold's ROM is still in beta. You can use, but you'll find it pretty buggy...like any ICS ROM on Desire.
Look for something else like InsertCoin or one of the Runny ROMs.

Go back to stock. Smooth, Nice, Normal, Bug Free.
If you don't want to sacrifice one of these, flash a rom suggested by others.

I moved from leedroid over to rsk v6 which is a sense 3.5 rom and i never regretted it.
If your mother is no tech nerd, use the RUU. No root => less chance to mess up things. Don't flash any of the advanced stuff, she won't need it.
If she wants the latest stuff, teach her to flash herself, but tell her how to use the search function.
