Hi,
I currently have a custom rooted gingerbread rom installed on my Desire with clockworkmod recovery, S-ON and HBOOT 0.80.
Problem is, I'm sending my phone off to Vodafone for recycling so need to revert software to stock.
When I try to install the latest Vodafone ROM I get a bootloader error in the RUU program (presumably because my phone needs to be HBOOT 0.75?)
I've tried flashing just a generic RUU but I get a Customer ID error when doing it. I've tried creating a goldcard but still get the same CID error in the update utility.
Any ideas on a method of getting this back to stock?
I've been going round in circles! Thanks in advance
This is step by step quide for unrooting you htc mobile phone, rember unrooting is more dangerous than rooting. You will acheve this by updating RUU ROM,this will remove custom ROM and root.
Before starting charge up your phone and secure power to you PC.
Step1
Go to shipped-roms.com>Android,and choose RUU(for desire gsm its RUU_BRAVO...)
(its recommended to check MD5 hash,to be sure that file is correct)
Step2
Open RUU file>check box...I understand the risk...>Next
(Be sure that you pass all 3 conditions)
Step3
Connect your phone to PC via USB>Click Next(if you have custom ROM it will show its name)>Click Update>Click Next(Update process is in progress, dont interrupt it)
Congratulations!Your ROM update is complete!
Done this, as mentioned, can't flash a generic rom due to the phone being CID locked to Vodafone UK. Tried creating a goldcard but still getting the CID error.
Can't flash the Vodafone UK Rom as my hboot is 0.80 and not 0.75 which is what the last Vodafone Rom is.
I've got root and have tried extracting the rom from the vodafone ruu but when I go to flash it via recovery I get the following error
E:Can't open /sdcard/rom.zip
(bad)

you don't flash the rom.zip from recovery
rename it to PB99IMG.zip exactly, and not PB99IMG.zip.zip
put it on the root of your goldcard, reboot into bootloader, should find the file, then accept.
got that from here
if it doesn't work have you looked at bortak's troubleshooting guide, stickied to top of Q&A...
Thank you sooooo much! Worked a charm

Hello everyone,
I decided that I'd like to finally replace my phone's rom with Cyanogenmod. This post will most likely cover the things that I have done so far and I'd appreciate if you can identify where I could have gone wrong or what I still need to do.
I first went to the site and looked through the wiki on how to install it.
I used the unrevoked method. At first I had difficulties with trying to get it to work as the software didn't seem to detect my phone. So I googled around and found out that one way to fix it was to install the HTC Sync software (thus installing the needed drivers to be able for unrevoked to identify my phone). I found this at some blog I found in the comments section of theUnlockr.
So I run unrevoked and it worked. I now have root access to my phone. Tested it on the terminal by typing su.
I downloaded the Rom Manager from the market (following the step in the cyanogenmod wiki) and updated ClockworkMod to 2.5.0.7
After a couple of tinkering I found out that there's this error when I start recovery mode.
Code:
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Cant' mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
I didn't pay attention to this.
So the next step for me would be to back up everything. SMS, apps, and then finally do a backup of the rom.
So back to the recovery mode. I go on and select 'backup and restore' from the recovery menu and I get this error:
Code:
SD Card space free: 664MB
backing up boot...
Error while dumping boot image!
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
Ugh... So I google around for some info on this and found out a similar problem with mine. The recommended solution was to install AlphaRev on the phone, but unfortunately did some damage to the phone. The poster can only get as far as the bootloader and recovery. Has something to do with the phone being PVT4. I think the newer version of Alpharev handles that already.
Now I look around tutorials on how to install alpharev on my phone to gain S-OFF, but most of the tutorials I found recommends that I do a backup. How I could I do that if it doesn't work in the first place?
So then I decided to replace Clockwordmod with Amonra (lots of googling again) then I stumble upon this site where one can install Amonra in three ways: bootloader, Rom Manager, and terminal. Though not sure whether it would be applicable to my phone, I gave it a shot.
Bootloader: I downloaded the PC36IMG.zip file, placed in on the sdcard. Started on bootloader and crossed my fingers. Didn't work.
Rom Manager: I downloaded the free app. Unfortunately, the "Flash Alternative Recovery" is disabled.
terminal: typed this
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img
and just gave me a "flash_image not found"
Okay... by then I'm getting a little bit frustrated. I started this endeavor around 10am and got to this step at around 4pm. It's 8pm now as I'm typing.
Back to my problem. Now I decide to try to replace using unrevoked. I try to use the software again but now there's an error that says that unrevoked cannot get to root and that the firmware may be a new version.
TL;DR
1. successfully rooted HTC Desire using unrevoked
2. Having trouble with Clockworkmod (Can't do backups)
3. Unable replace Clockworkmod with Amonra.
I am now at wit's end. I really don't know what to do now. I wouldn't attempt to install Alpharev without doing a back up. Even more so with trying to install cyanogenmod.
Any form of help is greatly appreciated.
NOTE: This is a cross post. I posted this question at the general QA section but I was not getting any responses. Since this is a Desire-related question, I hope I won't get that much flack for posting here as well.
Sounds like you have a PVT4 Desire which needs AmonRA installed not CWM

Yes. I read about it. Unfortunately I didn't read it BEFORE I thought of using unrevoked.
What FW are you on at present? Boot up, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version
If you can get the RUU you can go back to stock and start again - would mean losing all data but at least it'd work. Otherwise you're gonna have to go down the S-OFF route to flash the recovery manually
You just need to replace cmw by amon ra in unrevoked. That'll do it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You just need to run unrevoked again and before connecting your phone, select a custom recovery (amon ra) in unrevoked.
No need to return to stock.
If it does not work for the first time, try again and again. Sometimes unrevoked will give you strange errors, but when you try it again it will work.

I tried that. By installing HTC Sync again and running the RUU that I downloaded here in this site. The problem is that the device somehow disconnects whenever I run the RUU.

I'm trying to avoid that for the meantime. I haven't done that much research on that so I actually have very little information on how to do this.

As I mentioned in the original post, unrevoked doesn't work. It says that it can't get to root and probably my firmware is too new.
Thank you for the responses.
You need this (better link so download it again to be safe):
http://hotfile.com/dl/80036791/8a6c...5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe.ht ml
Then follow this guide to extract out the PB99IMG.zip so you can flash it without a PC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
As I said above, flashing the RUU WILL delete all data so you'll have to start again but should work. If not, you'll need to downgrade first using this guide then run the Asia RUU again:

Thank you very much. Will do this and will keep you posted on my progress.
Good morning.
I downloaded the RUU found in the link you provided and I managed to extract the rom.zip and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. But when I go into HBOOT, it can't seem to find the file.
loading PB99IMG.zip
No image!
What do you think could be the problem?
I reformatted the SD card with FAT32 and copied just the PB99IMG.zip and finally it worked.
Currently loading the img...
Will keep you posted
I finally got it working. Now using CyanogenMod 6.
Thank you very much for the replies!
I have the same problem as him. tried to download the RUU but links are broken. Found another RUU in other forums but prompt says that
"Error: main version is older!"
can you update the links and I'll try downloading your RUU. Any help appreciated
I've restored successfully using RRU a couple of times using UK TMO images but I'm no longer able to.
What I did was RRU an image and then OTA update to a version which is unavailable as a RRU. It's currently bricked I just see the pink circle although I can get to the bootloader via power-back (although not via power-vol down oddly).
I think the RRU isn't allowing downgrade now. Is there anyway of either forcing the Windows RRU updater to ignore version or flash more directly?
Enter recovery and flash a stock rooted Rom then ruu it
Or enter fastboot plug phone in then run ruu as administrator
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I lost recovery it just goes to the pink circle. I only have bootloader.
And I can't run RUU on any of the available UK T-Mobile images without error.

Hmm. If you have s-off, can you try to flash recovery via fastboot, then wipe everything and flash rom of choice? Never done that but I think my logic is good?
What is long hex code for goldcard?
I think the issue with my failing RUU update is that I have 2.12.110.4 and there isn't a RUU for T-Mobile for that version -- the last is 1.12.110.4 and RUU gives error "error 140 bootloader version error".
I've tried the OTA update as a PB99IMG.ZIP via fastboot but that doesn't work. I assume the ZIPs are signed and I can't mix the RUU extracted rom and OTA.
I think my best option is a goldcard but I don't have access to read the long hex CID from the phone.
I can see cid::T-MOB005 from fastboot.exe oem boot. Is there any way of translating that to the long hex code?

Don't know properly but let me try to answer,
u can only apply update.zip on recovery if they are signed by htc as its s-on and no one is still came with root for hboot 1.01.x its hardly locked so sign by htc for that update.zip is needed.
In simple, Not possible unless signed by htc...

talking about wildfire with S-ON here....
S-ON actually checks the update files whether they are signed by htc or not, and installs only the signed ones.
As ur hboot is 1.01 with S-ON, u must be on official froyo. In that case, u shouldn't be having another update file signed by htc presently. So u will be getting the error "Signature Verification Failed".
Why dont u try that as there is no harm in doing so. First copy ur update.zip file to the root of the sd card. then reboot into hboot menu and select recovery. U will see a red triangle. Now press the volume up + power key. There u will find the option to install update. So try it and check the error. And AFAIK, it is almost impossible to spoof the signature of htc.
If u have enough time, try this one also (only on ur wildfire with hboot 1.01 and S-ON). Get the official froyo ota update of ur region. It will be a zip file signed by htc. Put that zip file in the root of the memory card and rename the zip file to "update.zip" . Then go to recovery and try to install this. It will be installed because it is signed by htc (and moreover it is not a downgraded one).
Hi bharat, I am trying to do an OTA manually the version released last in India.
I got the following error, with "status 7". I was already having Froyo from an RUU update that I did, is that the reason for getting the error "Status 7"

Sorry, don't know about that "status 7" error.
Try to give more details and u might get answer frm someone. hboot version (0.80 or 1.01.0001 or 1.01.0002), S-ON or S-OFF (expecting s-on), Region of phone manufacture, Which froyo ruu u have used.
EDIT: Just googled the "status 7" error. Seems like it was the problem with rooted phone. So if ur phone is rooted, i think u will have to unroot ur phone first for the OTA update to work. And be aware of that OTA update will make ur phone unrootable (as now)
[im expecting u have used a rooted froyo rom (a zip file not an exe file)]
Hi,
I've just downloaded Juwe11's RAM script and I've been trying to copy to the system>etc>init.d but it always says Copy Fail? My Wildfire is currently running CM7-RC1
Also, I'm trying to S-Off my Wildfire which currently has the HBOOT 0.80 but when I try to download the official RUU with HBOOT 1.01 I get an error and it won't install.
Could anyone point me to the right direction please? Thanks in advance.
Copy pasting using a GUI based app like that (Atleast on a permanent basis) will need S-OFF. What is the error you are getting when you are trying to install an RUU?
Try flashing this ROM first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877977
Once done, then try installing the RUU (WWE 2.22.405.1 EXE File from Shipped ROMs)
If it still fails, then try extracting the ROM.zip from the RUU, rename it to PC49IMG.zip and place it on your SDCard, then reboot in the bootloader mode.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. Which do I flash the ROOTED or UNROOTED one? Do I just use CWM to flash those ROM's you've mentioned? My CWM version is 2.5 would that be fine?
Thanks in advance.
Try the unrooted one, and yes, it will work fine with CWM 2.5
Thanks, will do it as soon as I get home.
Sure, if it still doesn't work, let me know the specific error the RUU gives when trying to install.
Hi,
I just flashed the UNROOTED version of 2.2.1 ROM that you have recommended. I've now been trying to flash the official RUU WWE 2.22.405.1 with the radio however I keep getting an error ID 171 which says that there is a problem with the USB Connection between my phone and my PC.
This is the RUU Version I've downloaded from ShippedROMS
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_s
igned.exe
I'm pretty sure it's working fine as I can access my phone as a storage device.
Any advice on what I should do?
Thanks in advance.
Flashing RUU's seems to have lots of problems.
Try extracting the ROM.zip file from the RUU, there's a Youtube video for the same:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZe8HAFm3eU
Once you get the ROM.zip file, rename it to PC49IMG.zip, place on the root of your SDCard (i.e. not in any folders / subfolders), and then restart your phone in the Bootloader (HBoot) mode. It will automatically detect the file and start the install.

try the process in this thread, if you can't get it to work straight away, try using the method i used (thanks to rezo).
1 - install the ruu for 2.14.401.1
(http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?o6ox43q3taa33iu)
1.5 - if you can't do this because you already have the rom from 2.26 (but old radio etc), follow this tutorial so that you can go back to ruu 2.14.401.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540952&highlight=downgrade
2 - use htcdev process (without ruu step) to unlock bootloader
3 - install cwm recovery by flashing this file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1rdxmtpx26201or) via "fastboot flash recovery recovery(custom).img"
4 - put update.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?vycb7415nn9boct) on the root of your sd card and install from cwm recovery.
4.5 - if the update doesn't work (i.e. if you still get "triangle !" logo flash this file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bqni648c46r5e44) via cwm and choose the option "supervision", then try the update again.
5 - after installation and first boot (take a while) boot back to cwm and flash this root.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dumbffr3n8igau4)
you should now have the latest stock rom, latest hboot, latest radio, and be root.
What's different in this new update 2.26. ?
Hi guys
I'm trying to download this new ruu for 2 days now from "filefactory" an still: "no free slots"! Ca anyone help me to download this new ruu from other sites?
Thank's in advance!
my current software version is 2.14.401.2, what is the difference if i update to 2.26.401.3? Does it gives any improvement on the performance or battery life?
Thx...

what is the error code?
things to remember when you flash an ruu :-
you should not have modified system files (except for root)
you should have stock recovery to start with
you may need to create gold card
you should be relocked bootoader
if you are already on a software number which is higher than the ruu you are trying to install, you may need to downgrade first, using the guide posted above.

don't quote me on that, i'm not s-off myself, so i'm not reallu 'up' on all the thigns you can do and how you do them. but i was under the impression that with s-off you can flash it same as you flash recovery.img or system.img?

Is it possible to flash system.img and boot.img only? Or will there be conflicts with radio/ramdisk etc...
BL is unlocked and device is rooted atm!
I installed this RUU to my Wildfire S by this tutorial
Code:

My phone had unlocked bootloader (via htcdev.com), Root, S-On and my Hboot version was 1.09.0099. When I was trying to install RUU I got ERROR 140(bad hboot version). So I used mentioned tutorial to downgrade hboot and then I install new RUU.
I downloaded RUU 2.26.401.3 from this site because on Football's FileFactory link are allways full slots.
