Hey guys,
So this might be a n00b question to ask but i haven't seen any other posts on it for the Evo 4g.
I can make calls, but not receive them. I can send texts and people get them right away, but i don't receive them right away, I receive all my texts at once an hour or two later, sometimes a day later. I checked my system time and it was supposed to be 9:30 am but it said 4:45 pm, then it went back to 9:30 am about 5 min later.
It seems like a radio problem because my network works fine with facebook and heytel.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this, is it a network issue i need to contact sprint or is it a problem within the phone itself.
Is your evo rooted?
I had a similar problem but it was when i had a blackberry but it wasnt all the time. Sometimes i got texts almost a day later.
*Usually*, it is a network issue. You can try updating your profile in the settings menu. Also, it is not uncommon to experience such things while roaming.

Ya it's rooted with Unrevoked running Riptide w Calkulin 1.8.0
Haven't had any problems with it until yesterday, been running it ever since it came out.
I'm definitely not roaming.
Updated my profile and PRL
Gonna re-update, pull the battery for a few, and call sprint customer care. I read somewhere people have this issue when their phone is in forward mode, random for it to all of a sudden just happen unless the phone got dropped or shorted out somehow.
I had a friend have the same problem yesterday but he just went through insurance and got a new phone.
So you're right it could be a network issue and spending $ on a new phone to gamble on having the same issue doesn't sound like something anyone would want to throw money at.

Give it a day or two, you definitely don't want to pay for something you don't need.
Also, back up your current setup, calikulin format all, and try flashing something else to see if the problem is ROM based.
Thanks Green. Good words brothuh, i gotta older version of Fresh i'm gonna try that out.
I haven't seen any new worthy ROMs with the gingerbread so staying clear from that for awhile.
Unless you have one you would recommend trying out.

Flash a different kernel. It shouldn't have an affect on your issue, but, I've learned that anything us possible with smartphones.

Thanks Doug, not sure how to flash just the kernel but i'll look it up and post the results later today. Thanks for the tips!!
I tried reflashing the entire ROM and no dice. Think it's definitely a network issue. Going to sprint today, keep you guys posted.
I had the same problem and was on EVIO 1.8. I reflashed my PRI and that seem to have solved my problem. I tried many things but after flashing the PRI the phone has had no problems and that was about a month ago.
Here is my post to someone who had a similar problem as you.

Anybody running into this? I bought a GNex about 2 weeks ago and when on a call I get a high pitch squeal randomly. Loud... like pull the handset from my head loud. The person on the other end doesn't hear it. I called VZW several times and they say they haven't heard of this. My wife got the same phone when I did and it happens to her, too. My twin got the phone about a week later and his is fine. I took the phone in to VZW earlier this week and they mailed me a replacement... it does it also. I changed the ROM to the Open Kang ROM to see if it might be a software thing... still doing it. Very frustrating. It happens when sitting in my office on 4G or 3G, when driving, etc... no real rhyme or reason that I've been able to figure out. The squeal happens every 3-15 minutes without any real pattern. I don't see any notifications or anything that are new after the squeal takes place.
If anybody else is experiencing this can you post? If you fixed please advise! Thanks!!!

Yes, that happened to me when i was running stock at first too. Once i flashed AOKP 4.0.3 and franco's kernel, I haven't had that problem at all. It was REALLY annoying, sporadic, no rhyme or reason. It was also waaayyy louder than i thought the speaker could ever get ironicly enough. Also dont know if the new radios might have helped too, I flashed those separately because they aren't included on the 4.0.3 roms. Hope it helps =\
I called Verizon about this again today. I had enough trouble with one device that they sent me a second device. The second device does it too. Very frustrating. The device is also much slower than my old Incredible. I officially hate this device. Should be faster with a solid connection to 4G. I'm going to see what is necessary for VZW to somehow get me out of this device and into anything different. Hell, at this point I'm ok with an iPhone... anything but this.
I'm going to use this thread to track what I've been doing in the hopes that it can help others if they are dealing with VZW with this issue.
Dec/11 - bought the GNex new. Had the squealing problems and talked with the store I bought it from. They thought it was an app and suggested I make changes to my apps. I did that for a week or so and they finally exchanged the phone for new.
Jan/12 - new device arrives. Same trouble. I dropped the stock OS and went to the OKP OS. Same trouble. Figure I'll take notes for vzw and see if I can figure it out. What I found...
Seems to happen when talking with other mobile users, never to a land line. Later narrowed it down to only other vzw users, did not happen when talking to at&t users. Later narrowed it down that it only happens to other vzw users who are using the GNex device as well.
Called vzw last week after growing frustrated again. They had me do some troubleshooting on the device and re-provisioned my account. Same trouble. They sent me another new device. I put this device back to stock and relocked.
Feb/12 - 3rd device arrives. Stock OS, no apps installed. Had the same problem that same day. Called vzw the next morning and they had me put the device in safe mode so that they could determine if the problem was hardware or software. If you didn't know there was a safe mode now you know. Boot holding the down vol button until you're in the OS. Immediately had the same problem.
Called vzw back and demanded a different device. They told me they couldn't change the device because I was outside of 14 days. No kidding, I wouldn't be outside of 14 days if vzw hadn't been asking me to do all of this troubleshooting. I finally agree to pay full retail price if they credit my account for the past 3 months of troubleshooting. Nope. They make me upgrade eligible and I went a completely different direction to an iPhone hoping that this stupid squeal would be gone. I'll sell the GNex for close to retail on Craigslist at this point.
Mar/12 - iPhone is running for a day and I talk with my wife (GNex device). The squeal is there but MUCH SOFTER in volume. I will talk with my brother as I leave work tonight because I always have trouble with him on the phone. Hopefully this will help me know for sure.
What I think I'm finding is that it's not necessarily my GNex that had a problem... it's the reception from OTHER GNex users that is causing me the trouble. My wife has complained about the problem as well but at a much lesser frequency and only when on the phone with me. We don't talk on the phone that much. The curious piece is that my brother doesn't have the problem.
More to follow as I figure out for sure whether or not the iPhone has the same problem. If so then it's not my device, nevermind that I'm on my 4th device in 3 months. VZW has been entirely worthless through this process and has made me fight the entire way. Their customer service is horrible and the managers that I have been talking to should be fired. I can't believe they allow managers to talk with customers the way some of these guys do (especially this last Paul LaFranky dude (not sure about his last name)).
So I just came across this thread while doing my normal daily browsing here and find it interesting.
My nephew who has a SGSII here in east coast Canada on Bell txt'ed me earlier to ask if I ever get a "crazy squeal noise from your phone when you're trying to make/receive a call".
It's not all the time. He said it happened about 4 times in the past few months and it's only a land line. He doesn't make a lot of voice calls, mainly the 1 land line (work). When it happens, he hangs up and calls back and it's fine.
It may be completely unrelated to your issue. He's on stock gingerbread.
Anyway, thanks for posting the details and keeping record, i'll follow this for sure.
I have now had two calls today with the high pitch noise. At this point it is def not my device as I'm now on an iPhone. Good news is I can go back to the gnex. Bad news is that I'm all but certain that gnex devices are somehow SENDING these tones. With as unhelpful as vzw has been I'm beginning to think I may simply need to call those people less often... So annoying. I'll call vzw in the morning and see what they have to say. Ugh.
Mine does it too. It is my second one as my first stopped working on 3g so they replaced it. The first phone did it too. I just live with it.... I dont talk on phone much.
I get them as well with the GN, but I was also getting it with my thunderbolt from time to time.
My brother is upgrading to 4.0.4 today and will drop a new OS on his GNex. Once he does that I have asked him to call me to chat for a little bit. It would be great if that takes care of the problem! Fingers crossed. If that doesn't solve the problem I will call VZW with the additional info. If it does then I'll go back to the GNex and sell this new iPhone.
Update - called VZW to have my account updated with the latest notes. While on the phone the lady I spoke with acknowledged that there is a KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS PROBLEM with Samsung devices. The devices that she said are affected are the Galaxy Nexus, the Charge and the Stratosphere. Samsung is supposedly working on an update that will address the problem. No ETA for that update.
I sure wish someone had told me about this sometime over the past 3 months of troubleshooting... it would have saved me the money for the iPhone as well as the hassle with vzw. Hopefully someone here will get some good out of this.
How odd. I have a VZW Nexus, but have not encountered this issue. I don't often make calls, but they sound fine when I do.
The problem is on the other end for the person you are talking to... they will hear a high pitch squeal from time to time. Mine would do it as often as every 10-15 seconds or so or could be as little as every half hour (or not at all depending on length of call).
I have talked with my brother a couple times today after he upgraded to 4.0.4 and haven't had the problem at all. I wonder if that update includes some work to fix this. ??
First, I apologize if there's a thread with an answer... I was unable to find one.
I’ve got a big problem with my phone…sorry for the long post, but I want to get as much info in as possible.
I have been trying to regain access to the cellular network since about 8am today (eastern time). I noticed my lack of signal when I got to work. Yes I’m in a basement, but I haven’t had problems before. I will see everything from blue bars with the 3G logo to a triangle with an x. In any case, I am unable to send or receive phone calls, text, or mms. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
At first I thought I needed a reboot. Then a battery pull. After no luck, I thought that maybe I needed a fresh start. I have had 4 or 5 ICS-based ROMs and quite a few custom kernels, and most recently I’ve been playing with Jelly Bean. I thought that perhaps I had some leftover junk scattered about and figured that I would just format my SD card and start from scratch.
The long and short of the next part is that basically I put my phone back to stock settings, tried JellyBelly and CM9 RC1 after the 4.0.4 OTA update, but still no service! So now I’m back to stock again. The bootloader is unlocked, however I cannot root my phone. And I still cannot text or call. I have signal bars lit up, as well as 3G and am actually using Google Talk on 3G.
Mobile network is on, and set to LTE/CDMA. Aside from this morning, I haven’t flashed anything since Thursday (6/28/12). I cannot boot into recovery with ClockworkMod or Optimus Prime Touch- that just yields a picture of Andy with his chest open and a red triangle I’ve tried just flashing the radio, too. But that doesn’t seem to get me any results. I read about people having problems with their SIM cards so I pulled and reseated mine. That didn’t help, either….
I’m getting flustered and don’t have any other ideas. Could someone help me breathe the rest of the life back into my phone? I have no idea which directly to go now.
Thanks!
-Sarah
EDIT: Can't use 3G for Gvoice/talk now. boo
Probably your network. I'm having the same issues, but that's because the towers are down due the the crazy storm we had on Friday.

Anyone else on Verizon in your area having the same issues?

I hope so... I was able to call and text once I got out of the basement though. This morning, as soon as I step in, I'm getting the same thing.

One of my friends did yesterday, but only for a short time. He also has a Gnex. However, he was able to fix it by flashing a new JellyBean ROM. Only one of my coworkers is on Verizon, but he didn't have any issues here. He's got an iPhone.
Only one of my coworkers is on Verizon...he has been experiencing issues trying to text, but can still make calls.
I have finally restored my phone back to the JellyBean ROM, but still have no service
Just thought I'd update the thread.
Been getting these ever since the phone was new...a lot like the E4GT did when the 4G was turned on running custom ROMs? It does this just enough to be anoying, not enough to take it in and complain...yet!
I'm rooted and stock ROM, but it did it on blazer ROM too. Also did it completely stock - no root! Back then with the shortages of phones I thought I'd wait to do something and hope maybe a software update might come in to save the day? lol
I guess it does it about once/day on average. Anyone else getting this?
Never happened to me thankfully in about 2 months of owning the phone.
This happened to mine as well... I guess its a TWiz glitch because it has not happened since I switched to CM10. Try an AOSP ROM and see if it helps. I used to get daily reboots just like you.

I have had this phone for about 2 months now, runned a couple of custom roms, and I've never seen that.
ok, I guess I'll take it in to sprint store and see what they say...If they're feeling generous maybe they'll just replace it?
Well, I spent some time with a Sprint Technician last week trying to fix this "reseting" problem. The gal told me she'd call on Saturday to see if the phone had reset at all ...in other words to see if what she had done fixed my problem? Well she never called me back!!! So I phoned Sprint on Monday and told them it had reset twice on me in the time period
So, the gal I talked with created an "E-Ticket"? Then told me to take the phone to my local store and let them determine what to do next...My question is this:
I'm rooted and running stock right now (LI3) Both Modem and ROM.
Should I do a restore to stock before I go in?
Will they be able to tell that I was rooted?
Will they care?
Or should I just take the phone in like it is and be above board with them the whole way?
They prolly won't believe me when I tell them the phone did this when it was bran new un-rooted
Anyone?
This is probably not the response for which you are looking, but I have zero problems of any kind. I have been running the LIG leak since the day that it became available. I wish that I had some insight for you or could be of help.
Hi guys,
My Galaxy Nexus running stock 4.2.2 started getting zero bars reception in my house in about mid December. At the time, I hadn't done anything different to it, so I assumed it would go away over time, so I focused on my final exams instead. Flash forward to today, it's been months since I have had reception on my phone. This is a really big problem for me, as I can't even take phone calls or send/receive texts. I've been using Rogers One Number and Whatsapp through WiFi to get by, and it sucks.
My brother has the same phone, and I helped him flash the Google stock ROM, so hes running same everything as me. I've tried plugging his Sim into mine and my phone still gets zero bars (his is fine). I've tried plugging my Sim into an old Samsung dumbphone, and it was fine. I don't remember if I tried my brothers phone... I will if I have to.
I had no problems for the months I owned the phone leading to December (since about March last year). I've tried scouring the forums for solutions, but I get flooded with Verizon reception problems... I'm in Canada on Rogers, and had my phone working well until December, so it's not the right problem.
According to the secret menu, it says I have -107dBm (fluctuating to -111dBm within the typing of this message), 1 asu. I have no idea what that means, but I see everyone always posting this with reception issues. I've tried doing a backup and a factory reset, with no results. I've tried flashing to stock 4.1 with no results. This leads me to believe it's a hardware issue, so I tried opening it up to see if the antenna was loose; it was not.
Please tell me what kind of additional information I need to provide for you guys to try to help me. Am I supposed to try flashing a new radio? Which am I supposed to use if I'm in Vancouver, BC on Rogers?
I found this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163312&page=), with a magical solution of waiting the next day. Unfortunately, I've been waiting for months.
Regards,
Eddy.

There was also this incident that happened last year that I posted about, but it quickly went away after the "squeeze" solution. I've tried the squeeze solution since then, and even opening it up to check the antenna with no results.

Sounds like a hardware issue. If its within warranty, have it replaced or do an insurance claim if you have it.

Unfortunately, I have neither options, as I purchased it new through Craigslist. I'm capable of opening it up, and would be happy to replace parts... does anyone know where I can find out what parts I would need in such a scenario as well as where I could purchase?
