[Q] Forcing/Spoofing a phone number on the KF? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Happy KF owner running a CM9 based ROM here. I have Verizon FIOS at home, and would like to be able to use my tablet to run the android FIOS Remote app, however it requires a phone number as part of the set up process. This being a tablet and not a phone, it doesn't recognize any sort of phone number defined. Is there a way I can spoof it into thinking it has a phone number of my choosing, or is that something that's just not possible on a non cellular device?
Thanks!

zeriho this
I'm pretty sure it isn't possible.

Chromecast Tethering

Hey guys so I tether once and a while when needed with my verizon gnex which works just fine with multiple devices like my laptop and nexus 7. I figured this was a piece of cake easy thing for my chromecast as well, but it appears I was wrong. I am currently on the kevdliu 4.3 rom which continues to allow my tethering ability but for some reason my chromecast cannot seem to work with it. Even if I do manage to connect to it which is rare, I cannot then access it from another device*nexus 7*. The cast button doesnt appear and when I then run the chromecast app it states that my chromecast isnt connected and tries to go through the connection process again.
So I know you are all about to say things like "maybe it wont work on the phone" or "this should go in the chromecast threads section" which for the second I almost did, but the interesting thing is my coworker with his galaxy s4 tethered just fine between my tablet and chromecast. He has tmobile and uses the official free one through them as he isnt rooted.
any suggestions?
edit, I am now seeing something interesting. It seems that although both my laptop and tablet appear to be connected to the tethering, if I started using my laptop first then the moment I picked up my tablet it then disconnects me from the internet on my laptop.
Have you figured anything out?
I currently am in the same situation too. I don't have a home wifi yet and use tethering for most of the things I do online.
I can't get anything to work whether trying to set it up from the phone or laptop.

FireTV Stick no wifi, tried reset

Hi Guys,
I have a few modified firetv sticks and this one has been the strangest one so far.
Everything worked well, Kodi, settings.apk loaded. Then today the wifi menu was blank, no connections present.
I checked settings.apk and wifi was set to OFF and no way to get it to slide to ON. Bluetooth showed on.
I tried doing a factory reset but now the firetv is stuck at the "Scanning for networks" page.
It seems to be semi bricked, but i thought that was impossible without root access.
Does anyone have any idea how to get out of this stage or how to enable wifi somehow? The unit seems to be working otherwise, remote responds but no wifi and thus no ADB either. The unit seems to also get very hot after a few minutes of this "Scanning for networks" menu. A lot hotter than my other units for sure.
Your help would be awesome.
Has anyone run into this issue in the past ?
I called amazon customer support today and they offered to replace the unit if the DSN is within a year old. I'm pretty sure it is but I dont know what the DSN is on this specific unit.
Does anyone know how to find out the DSN directly from the device ? I have 9 of these sticks among family members etc, so I cant exactly rule out which one this one is just from looking at my account devices.
Is there a way to obtain the serial from the device through USB ?
I tried connecting it to a pc and mac and no real progress.
- PC says its an unknown device
- MAC does not show up at all
Thanks
Same issue. Stuck on "Scanning for networks". Help!

Invitation to Connect from Samsung TV ?

Hi,
I have the newer model (2015) of the Amazon Fire. I am currently logged in using my sister's Amazon account. I live in an apartment building so other devices may be near by.
About a week ago, I got a message "invitation to connect" from a Samsung LED 32, for some reason I stupidly hit accept. Today I got the same thing from a 55" Samsung which I do not own. I have been using my Fire on a 59" Samsung which is connected by HDMI.
I am not sure what is causing this message, if someone is trying to hack my Fire from my apartment building or someone in my sister's family is just trying to add their device (which is not local so it can't be by bluetooth), But I think the message is someone trying to connect by bluetooth because if it was just someone adding a device it would not come through my device, I think.
Anyone else familiar with the "Invitation to connect method" and how I can learn more and possible remove any device connected that is not suppose to be ?
Thanks.
go to amazon account and remove any device that doesn't belong to you

Any suggestions for a remote assistance that auto-starts, without port-forwarding?

I am sending my Fire TV oversea to my grandma and I need to be able to control it remotely in order to assist her.
The requirements are:
Must be able to auto start on boot.
Must be able to connect without port forwarding.
I must be able to connect without her consent. (I’m sure she’d get stuck in the beginning and I won’t even be able to guide her to click anything).
The IP thing shouldn't be an issue with NO-IP or something similar.
Ideally VNC would be the best bet due to its flexibility with CLI, but I’d have to have some sort of reverse connection going on which I’m not sure how I would go about that.
Also, I was having a bit of trouble getting any VNC daemons working properly.
Fire TV 1. Version: 5.2.1.2 (pre-rooted)
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Question Getting Android to Use Linux-USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum, so I'm not really sure if this should be general, dev, or just a technical question. Also I'm a software dev, but am not too familiar with android other than lightly using Android Studio for app dev.
Basically my problem comes down to this. I use a custom OpenWrt device as an ethernet dongle for my laptops by loading the g_ether driver. I would like to do this for an android phone as well. Right now I'm trying the s20 and s22 (pretty sure whatever solution I come to will work for both); however, when I plug my dongle in, the phone will see the dongle with all the correct device descriptors and all that, but will not connect and attempt to get an IP.
My current guess is that the phone just doesn't have the right drivers on there (cdc_ether or cdc_subset), or that it is not loading them.
Thus far I've tried poking around with termux, but have not gotten too far. I was hoping this community may be able to help me figure out how to get the phone to use the dongle.
Lastly, would really rather not root the phone unless completely necessary.
Thank you all for any advice!
