So, in the summer I'm going to be traveling to Europe and need a World phone. So I decided to get a decent smart phone, none of that black berry crap.
Anyways, after buying a Moto XPRT and Sprint giving me the shaft and not allowing me to activate it due to being on SERO, I bought another phone, the Photon.
The device is built like a Rock and has some nice feature, especially the kick stand. Honestly, it feels good in the hands (that's what she said) and performs decently.
But going to the Photon from the Epic, there is no comparison. The epic is much faster, feels solid without the bulk and is just plain sexier.
Also, the photon has a really disorganized support. Our forums for the Epic are so well maintained and have active support. Granted, the photon is probably an older device.
It took me about 2 hours to unlock, root and install CWM on it. Not only is it a hassle, but all the links were broken! I wanted to install a ROM and all of the links were pointed to Multiupload which seems to be gone.
Anyways, I just wanted to post this because I can't wait to go back to my Epic after I make sure this phone will work in Europe.
Any others out there try the Photon too?
If you want to mod it I believe shabby still has his holylivingfuck.com links up
The photon was much solid and with motorola holding back the bootloader it really held a solid device back. The devs are great and there was no sort of bs negativity on the forums. It was like everyone there was a family and chill as F not talking down to each other....

Man the Nexus will be cool but you do know the GS3 will have all that and I bet a lot of our devs will jump to it. The old hardware in the Nexus is not worth it to me at least but that 720p screen mmmmm lol

Don't see the point of 720 on such a small screen. HBO go and you tube both look great on this phone

Exactly there is no point but its cool to have anyways
I had the Photon before I got my GS2. The Photon has a much better radio and pulls a mu h better signal even in weak coverage areas. This is fact. The ONLY reason i returned the Photon was because I couldnt stand the grainy pentile display. It does conserve battery but for me the jaggedness of fonts and icons, videos, etc was just too noticable and it really bugged me a lot. I had no other complaints about the Photon other than the lack of decent stock motorola widgets.
For traveling and the need for a good solid signal, the Photon is your best option. Believe me the motorola radio in the Photon rocks. Thats pretty important when travelling. This is my ad ice.

It's very noticeable when you're using an mhl adapter on a bigger screen, but that aside. This phone is Epic.

That's exactly what Motorola wants. That phone had so much potential, such a waste of a good device.
I loved my MoPho and would still be using it if I didn't brick it when trying to unlokc the bootloader. Once bricked, I freaked out and got the GS2 with my upgrade.....LOL
The MoPho was very solid and had great reception. My 4G was constant all day and I loved it!!
I tried unlocking the bootloader, I freaked out and didn't go through with it. At the time there were no ROMs so there really wasn't any real need to.

Exactly. No poi.t in risking your phone when there's no custom ROMS and development is basically at a stand still becausr of the locked boot loader. That was the other reason I moved on from the Photon. Stoll its a solid device was an excellent radio. Dont underestimate the Photon's radio, it smokes my GS2 all day everyday!
Unlocking the bootloader was really easy, to be honest. They instructions are scary, but I was in a "I don't give a $&*@" mode.
I messed something up when I tried to unlock the bootloader and wasn't able to revive my MoPho for a day or two. I had to search all over these forums to find a solution to an issue I was having while going through the revive process.

I'm an original at&t iPhone guy who switched to Verizon about a year ago when the android finally started making me drool over its superior look, feel and operation.
The fact that its open source and has far better customization, sold me in a heartbeat. I started with a Samsung fascinate and was sorely dissapointed. The phone always had bugs and never ran properly. Even after a much awaited froyo update.
I traded my fascinate on craigslist for my dinc about 4 months ago and was very impressed not only with the lack of bugs and lagginess but also at the development that has occurred. The devs for this phone are freakin awesome!!! Thanks guys!!
Now I see dual core processors and larger screens taking over the android market as well as an upcoming iPhone 5 that, I'm sure will live up to the apple name.
My question is simple. Should I keep my dinc until its done, should I upgrade to a newer android device or should I cross back to the dark side and have apple tell me what's good for me once again? Hmmmmmmm.....

I'm keeping my Dinc until it's upgrade time (beginning of Jan 2012), and if there is no suitable replacement (for my tastes) then I have no problems sticking with the Dinc. It's a great phone and will still be a great phone in 6 months from now.
As for switching to iPhone, that's a matter of preference. I'm a Mac user that prefers Android over iOS because iOS doesn't have the flexibility and functionality that Android does. I do think that iOS can be prettier and more polished in some ways, but the functionality of an Android phone is worth more than the eye candy of iOS.
I would say the only worthy upgrade seems to be the SGS2(if it has lte) or the Nexus 4G/htc verzion that are rumored for this fall/winter.

HTC Nexus on Verizon *drooool*
I did a long hard search and honestly there is nothing better than the DINC right now.
The Droid incredible 2 I still wouldn't take just because of the lack of development.
I'd be surprised if Verizon would allow a stock phone without bloatware all over the damn place.. I'd love if I was wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still a sprint phone. Saw an article about how sprint is now going to be removing bloatware or making it uninstallable. Pretty respectable move IMO, but I can't see Verizon following suit.
actually the nexus 4g lte is rumored to go to At&t with their new 4g lte network not verizons and sprint sort of exagerates "lies" the removal of bloatware because you can only remove 5 or so apps

Man, there STILL isn't anything even being talked about to be released to consider. Disappointing!
The only consolation is that we still have one of the best phones out there.
I have incredible faith (heh heh) in our devs. Seeing as the inc2 has just been rooted and we have the 2 big boys, cm7 and Miui already available for the device, i believe ill be accidentally taking a shower with my Dinc in my pocket in the next few weeks.

What's next is called the Thunderbolt. It's got a screen bright enough to read, battery life... well, anything has batter battery life than a dInc, absolutely stupid-fast 4G, a stupid-fast CPU that EASILY clocks up to 1.6GHz, and a screen big enough for a keyboard. I lived with the dInc for a long time, longer than any other phone I've ever had. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can say with a straight face that the original dInc isn't bested yet. There is literally nothing that the dInc does as well, let alone better, than either the Thunderbolt or the dInc2.

Verizon gets a small incentive from the companies of the bloatware, that's why they put them on there. and i don't think verizon will ever get a nexus bone stock android phone, i really don't, here is why. Verizon isn't really out there for the consumer, they are out there for the profit. hence why, i mean at t-mobile and ATT, if you want a new phone, no problem, walk into the store, and get one at the upgrade price....in the middle of your contract.
Verizon hasn't gotten the idea of that just yet. plus like other companies, verizon does have shareholders to report to (and they aren't happy, they think the data plan changes will ruin their investment)
the only reason i have verizon is because that's the only carrier here with decent coverege, and they really aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

maybe because we have devs who already got it to gingerbread? and with that logic everyone in this country on the roads should be driving brand new 2012 model year cars, right now. people are happy with what they have and they make it better. not everyone has 500+ dollars to spend on a new phone everytime they come out.

really? there isn't much difference, gingerbread as i said above, is already on various roms for the dinc. the main selling point for the t-bolt right now is that it's a 4g CAPABLE phone. if you are not in a 4g area, you will get 3g coverege. my area won't get 4g until a few years from now. and no, i don't live in "podunk nebraska" i live in a town of about 48,500+ people.

Guess what? I had a dInc2 to play with for a week and I still have my Tbolt and I'm about to kernel up my old dInc, so yeah, I've got a hell of a lot more clue than pretty much everyone on this thread as to what I'm talking about. My dInc has been running GB for quite a while now. So has my Bolt. The dInc2 did EVERYTHING faster than the original, running bone stock firmware!
I'm not gonna make excuses for the Bolt. The firmware for that phone, and a good number of the leaks have been lousy. But, the more recent leaks have yielded absolutely bullet-proof, flowing-water smooth ROMs. The question was "What's next?". That big plate of glass next to me IS what's next. There is no question about it. It's not opinion. As for 4G, when towns like Fostoria, OH pop up with LTE, I'm thinking very broad coverage on this side of the Mississippi is clearly coming.... well before my contract is up. Hell! Even 3G is faster on the dInc2 and Tbolt, if for no other reason than they have the power to render things quicker. I'm glad people are happy with what they have. The dInc was, and still is, a solid, modern phone more capable than many devices to come after it. Too bad it looks pretty dated in light of Tbolts and dInc2's and several other phones. When I read someone write something like "I keep looking and I don't see anything that measures up to the dInc", I'm wondering how much crack they smoke. You're either insane, on drugs, or oblivious to reality to think that.

Wow man way to be a total ****. I have an incredible and my brother has a Tbolt, I can honestly say I prefer mine over it.
Besides that, although the Tbolt and INC2 *are* upgrades from the INC- for most people they just aren't worth someone's 2-year contract or full retail to get that sort of an upgrade. You've been out of the INC scene for a while it looks like.. and DEV's here are still putting out loads of stuff every day increasing performance/battery life/features -- moreso than INC2 or Thunderbolt since they've been out a shorter time. The INC2 even has issues now where if you buy it and it comes with GB, you can't even root it.
4G is extremely scarce, if you drive out 5 miles from whatever city you're in then you're out of luck as far as 4G goes. 4G is nowhere in my state yet, not even in our capitol (Richmond) and it looks like it'll be at least a year, probably more until we get it. The 3G, at least where I'm at, is fantastically good. I get 320kb/s on a good day and low 200's/kb/s during peak hours. That's enough to stream Colbert report, download movies (I've downloaded 4 so far) and watch netflix without pauses or hiccups.
So.. even if there WAS 4G in my area there really isn't any need that I get it since I don't normally watch HD movies on a ~4" screen or tether it to a datacenter.
Your opinion and mine.. but you don't need to flaunt around your phone while downing the INC (on our own forums) which is a perfectly awesome phone.
I was very interested in what the Motorola photon till the guy at Sprint HIGHLY reccomended the SGII Epic 4G Touch. Told me about all the features of guild phone which caught my attention. I also watched a 14 min vid from wirefly smackdown on the photon vs epic 4G touch.
One thing I was concerned about was the resolution being lower. Also rather like the kickstand idea from the EVO, but saw there was cases that have kickstands for the epic 4G touch. I'm asking from people who have owned the phone for a while, is it a good choice to get or should I stick to getting the photon?

Best phone I've had. The only rant is the LoS every now and then. I prefer the smaller resolution because it's just easier. Bigger icons are better (at least for myself).
I messed with the Photon and it's a nice phone, but something that kept me far away from it was the lack of development.
I came from a Motorola atrix from att and I can say I missed Samsung. Phonton isn't a good the ept4g screen is amazing. Battery is OK better stuff is yet to come. Join us get the Epic 4g touch

Had the Photon for a month and have had the Epic 4G Touch for a month. While the Photon is an excellent phone it has serious issues with random rebooting and no audio on calls. It seems for for unexplained reasons the software just goes haywire and you have to do a battery pull. Some Best Buys reported 100% return rate when the phone first came out due to issue with no audio and rebooting. The radio is very strong, much better than the Sammy. The UI is not very good, you will need to switch to LauncherPro to make it acceptable. Thicker and heavier that the Sammy. Neither are great with the battery due to the nature of Android. As for the Epic 4 G Touch the radio is weaker. While people report loss of signal I have never had it. Very slim and lighter. Great all around phone with no issues on the calls. Like everything about it.
My suggestion would be the Epic 4 G Touch.
The SGS2 is a beast! I think you can't go wrong with either phone but I would say Sammy all the way. The screen blows away the qhd display of the EVO 3d I owned so I wouldn't be concerned about the resolution.
I know the a lot of people also like the Photon but I have not used it nor have any intention of even looking at it.
When it comes to tv and computer monitors I am an HD snob. I simply want the highest screen resolutions. Naturally I shopped around for a new phone using the same mindset. That was until I experienced the Super Amoled Plus screen. I finally realized how much of an impact contrast ratio is to the clarity of the screen. Deep blacks make every color on the screen pop. I watch Netflix on my phone in bed and I am blown away at the quality of the picture.
So in my opinion if you are trying to make resolution of the screen your deal breaker, you should go and spend some time with both phones and see for yourself.
Plus our phone simply have the fastest processor on the market. Without hardware acceleration my phone still don't experience any lag. Now with ICS coming out and hardware acceleration on just imagine how much more smoother our phone will be.
I'm an IT Manager for my company, our help desk gets more calls about Motorola Droids then anything else. I will never own a Motorola Android. I will admit the new Razor is tempting. For myself, I like Android but I think it is a little to complicated for the average corporate user. They just want something quick, easy and that works.
FYI, we get the least amount of calls over Iphones. I'm tempted to make the Iphone our officially supported phone. I don't think I want to get into Android or WP7 polices.

What is your company's officially supported phone now?
My answer to the question, plus my Android history for some perspective.
I had the Photon briefly, exchanged for the Epic4GT and would never go back to the Photon.
-First Android was Sprint Hero. Was almost immediately outdated, but I liked it.
-This Aug was time for upgrade, Photon had just come out, didnt like how it looked, got the EVO4G. Really liked it compared to the outdated Hero, but the thing was HUGE, heavy, and battery didn't last long. The camera was 100000x better than the Hero.
-2 weeks later, after reading a couple reviews, (and hating the bulk of the EVO), exchanged it for the Photon. Immediately hated it. Hated the display - "artificial" is the only word I can think to describe it. The camera is horrible - about the same as my original Hero. I also really hated the UI.
Then the GSII was announced for Sprint. I held onto the Photon - hating every second of it - and the very last day of my 30day return policy was the drop day for the E4GT. Got it. LOVE it.
The size is perfect. Biggest screen out there (kinda), but the phone doesn't feel too big. It's not a BRICK like the EVO. It's thin and light. And the display size is great. Odd looking at a tiny iPhone display after this. Display quality is amazing. The camera is at the top - rating about even or better than the best out there. Battery has great life.
Not only is the E4GT the best phone at SPRINT right now, it's hard to beat it anywhere. For now. That all changes quick. But if you need to buy a phone right now, and you want the best from Sprint the Epic4GT is it.
(Sorry for a long first post, but this is a topic I just lived through.)
I had evo3d and photon before et4g. Et4g hands down.

Wow thank you for all the information you gave, that is def a deal breaker for me
Also to everyone else who posted, thank you all for the replies, I'm def going for the epic 4g touch now. Just need to find a decent case, which, doesn't happen till Nov from what i hear.

I'm still on the fence about getting the ET4G. I keep reading about LOS this and poor wi-fi signal that. Coming from an OG Epic some here can understand my apprehension, I would like to see if an update by the end of the year will come through. My ultimate plan is to pick one up through Craigslist just to hold on to my upgrade because I'm holding on to hope that Sprint gets the Nexus early next year.
I have an Epic 4G Touch that has not been rooted yet and I am yet to get an los on it. No issues with wifi or anything else for that matter.
Can keep 4G on all day while at work with about 1.5 hours of on screen time after 9 hours and come home with over 50% battery left. Compared to the EVO 4g and 3d, that is pretty damn impressive!

No prob - hope it helped. As for the case, I have the Carbon Fiber texture Kickstand Cover from Sprint, and I think it's great. I've never liked hard cases before this - always too much bulk. I've always gotten silicone cases, which I have liked a lot for drop protection, but they gather a lot of dust. This case adds minimal bulk and looks great. People cant believe how small/thin the phone is, and that's before they realize it's in a case. Take it out and they are even more amazed. Took pics, will post soon.

I've read so much about this, but haven't experienced either problem. I was even going to jump on board the Sprint refund/credit bandwagon, just because I'm sure I could get away with it, but I haven't had the problem, so I'm not going to. I had had about 4 random reboots in the month I've had it, but it hasn't been a problem. (I just heard it rebooting in the other room.)

The reboot could be caused by an app you are running. Are you running Juicy Defender or something like that? I know that has been an app that causes reboots.

what should I/do I need to know about the GS2? pros and cons please
I really love my Epic, but I know I'm going to miss my QWERTY
this will be my first full touch-screen phone so I'm a little weary
how do you guys like your GS2's?

I've had mine for about a week now (came from and EVO) I have no complaints whats so ever........... Your mileage may vary.......
Its a good device coming from the Evo. Its has a few issues like the Loss of service, but I did experience that until I rooted the device so I dont blame it on the phone.
The one problem that I do have is that it wont play most games for more than 10 to 15 minutes. But I use it for reading more than anything else and sprint and samsung are suppose to be releasing a patch next month.
I would say stop calling it the SGS2 (which, I know, it is) and get used to ET4G. If for nothing else than to know that if something is labeled SGS2 that you should. not. flash. it.
As far as QWERTY goes? Pffft. I was so worried when I got my Evo that I was going to miss QWERTY. I didn't have the Hero long enough to get used to it, then I got the Moment and got used to it (that keyboard sucked anway)....but the transition took, oh, a week or two. That was a year and a half ago and I've never regretted ditching the real keyboard. There are hundreds of 'em. Find one you like. I go back and forth between Swype and SwiftkeyX and can haul major ass on both....especially Swype. SwiftKeyX is totally worth whatever it costs. If you let it read your texts, emails and Facebook posts it's prediction is simply amazing. You barely even have to try being precise.
This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

I got it last Tuesday and love the phone and size. Im using the "Go Launcher" and LOVE IT, amazing how easily it is to make your beautiful looking and functional. The only problem Im having is LOS. And battery life is not that good either but , what can you expect from a dual Core phone with a big ass screen. You can tweak it with SetCpu. But Im still trying to find the best configuration so i can have a optimal battery life.
But i must say the phone is amazing and also it also lets you uninstall a lot of the preloaded apps without rooting, something other phones and carriers wont permit.
I am also getting this phone... just ordered it tonight.. should be here no later than Wed!
I'll be switching from the Moment and lack of a physical keyboard was also something I was wondering about. Hence why I sub'd to this thread.. I wanna see what y'all have to say.

If you are coming from the Moment you will love this device. I had the moment for 6 months but I had to get rid of it because I hated it. I went to the and loved that until my charger port broke. Got this as a replacement. This is better than the Evo, considering the screen is excellent. Also it is so much lighter and thinner than the Evo and Touchwiz is not as bad as people make it out to be.
The only problem with it that I have had is the sound bug which causes some games to just quit.

Here's a little devil's advocate.
I bought the ET4G on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist for an attractive price. After using it for a week, it's going back on Craigslist and I am using my OG Epic again w/ the new Gingerbread release (and physical keyboard fixes!).
While the ET4G certainly offers a snappier Android experience and a better camera than the OG Epic, I didn't find the boost in speed or extra screen real estate to be worth the $325 I paid for the device. I think the only speed boost worth writing home about was the speed of the ET4G's stock browser. Lastly, the audio quality of SGSII is inferior to SGSI and in all honesty not worthy of a high end smartphone - this was the deal breaker for me.
Considering that you already have the OG Epic, I'd wait until the middle of next year so you can get a killer future-proof 720p LTE phone at a fully discounted price. All that said, the ET4G is still a great device!

That's one reason I haven't taken the plunge (though I tried once, and the guy at the store said he couldn't mess with my plan). When I played with it at the store, it wouldn't rotate. Meanwhile, some of the apps (especially the camera app) would go landscape and not go back. Anyone else have that problem?

I've noticed a lot of familiar faces around here, how many people here came from the Evo 3D? I used to think once the Evo got AOSP the phone would work better. I wish I had waited for this phone with my upgrade! I bought this on Ebay, I just couldn't take the lag anymore. It's such a night and day difference. Are you other folks satisfied with the switch?

Glad I made the move. Even sold back my EVO3D with a broken screen to Sprint for $125 and bought the 4G Touch on Amazon for $79. Win win! If I could only access the 3D images and vids women volunteered to test for me...

ya I have both and love this phone without a doubt. I like how in the htc forums they call this phone junk. it runs circles around that phone. I love the screen. I havent had one build quality problem since day one. even tho they said I would. i did however have multiple issues with the 3d over a couple of them. also as far as samsung being shady with updates. not for this phone! this is getting Ice cream sandwich very soon. I laugh everytime I see one of those threads. they don't realize how easywe have it over here where there is no need for a site like htcdev.com to unlock a bootloader like the evo 3d needs. welcome to the green side

I was biased towards Samsung and was half expecting non stop problems and deal with the LOS and the soundpool bug for the next six months or more, and forget about ICS...maybe in 2014.
Samsung proved me wrong on all accounts.
Ya, I am glad I switched. I thought HTC was so cool. It was like thinking a Geo Storm was cool back in 1996. Ya, it ain't sh!t compared to my Audi turbo with panoramic sunroof. You would think the people at Sprint would have said, hey, don't buy the 3d. It is a POS. I looked at the photon but I couldn't get use to that pixel thing going on with the screen
I got the Evo 3D on launch day...in November, this phone came up for a penny on Amazon, and I had to go for it. When it came in, I was shocked at how much smoother and faster it was than the Evo.
I'm definitely glad that I made the switch.
Yes, sold my 3vo.
had the 3d sold it and now I am rocking this beauty!!
I love this phone I just wish it had a better build, I'm not a fan of Samsung plastic. Other than taht it blows the 3d out the water. I still have my 3d because I gave it my sister but still love flashing Roms on it :b.
I liked my 3d. I just like this phone more. Coming from an og evo, I was bummed with the slightly smaller screen, weaker speaker and camera.
Gps seems better on 3vo but that is it. Literally. This thing could run the entire evo in a widget.

I was about to buy this amazing phone, when I remembered that it has a locked bootloader which means no CM10.1 which means im stuck with android 4.1. Then I researched a bit and found out that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is highly rumored to come out at CES 2013, which is probably gonna be running android 4.2 and be able to have CM10.1! So I guess this is goodbye!

Hi everybody. I thinking about getting a new phone but I'm having a hard time deciding between the evo lte or the lg optimus. I currently have the evo 3d. Honestly I'm leaning more towards the optimus. Is it really as good as it seems? Obviously the specs are amazing but if you actually have the phone or have used it, would you recommend that I get it too. I also noticed more activity on these forums which is a good thing. I'm not as skilled as most of you but I like to root my phone and all that... Thanks for the help!!

I would honestly stay away from the Evo 4G LTE. I was a pre-order coming off an OG EVO. Sense 4 is way over aggressive on task killing and the stock mail apk would not translate html from my work exchange server , so I got lines of code. The phone also has very poor performance picking up lte signal. Deck's cm10 made the phone much better (Deck is the only saving grace in my opinion).
Sprint switched me into the S3 last week, and I picked up a lgog off Craigslist for cheap. I think both of these phones are superior to the Evo 4Gm lte . I do like the Evo 4G lte display though.

Personally after owning a 3D, idk how you could consider HTC again. I wanted to throw mine against a wall. I absolutely love the Optimus G and would highly recommend it to other people. The camera isn't as good as the Evo LTE or the GS3 but it's good enough for what I need. Performance is lightning quick, battery life is great, very high build quality, and the screen is gorgeous. And LG's UI is actually really nice, I like it much better than Sense.

I understand what you're your saying; but when I bought the 3d I was coming from (ironically) an LG phone. But that phone was very, very basic. So when I got the 3d, my first smartphone, it was the biggest thing to me at the time. Reading your comment I can tell that I'll have that same feeling if I get the Optimus G, if its as great as many people say. Thanks for your insight.

My first smart phone was the Evo 4G. It was mind blowingly awesome. Like I literally loved everything about it, except for the top mounted power button that felt extremely cheap, and they continued that with the Evo 3D. Why HTC keeps thinking the top is the best place for the unlock/power button is beyond me...I'm so happy that it's on the side with the OG. I ended up with a 3D cause I shattered the screen on my 4G and they sent me one through insurance. After two years with HTC, I hate Sense and I'm just ready to move on. I'm not really brand biased, so I was open to LG. I had a LG Shine years back and I absolutely loved that phone. Even without a buzzing dev community it's still a great phone. I think you'll be very happy here though
New to this group. Had HTC for a long time and now the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (love this phone). But i have looked at all the options out there and it does seems that this Optimus G is the BEST out there (at least for now, and i i looking for a phone now!!!) So just ordered it...and will be in this forum from now on.

Sounds like we had a similar update path. I went from the original Evo 4G to the Epic 4G Touch(which I sadly dropped in my soup at a sushi restaurant, phone still kind of works, btw, but the charging light won't turn off) and am now also on the Optimus G. With that being said, here's what you will miss:
1. The super saturated Super AMOLED Plus display. It will take time for your eyes and brain to adjust to normal color temperatures so don't let that put you off.
2. Samsung's Smart alarm. If you don't know what it is though, then you won't miss it, but it was a built in alarm function that would wake you gently to nature sounds. I missed it horribly...at first...until I downloaded Alarm Clock Xtreme and a $0.99 nature sounds album from Amazon.
3. Getting used to not having a microSD card slot.
4. Removable battery...not a huge deal since the Optimus G battery is much larger capacity, but I did have the stock battery on my Epic 4G Touch swell before I got the battery replaced, hopefully that won't be an issue with the Optimus "non-removable" battery.
5. Not going to lie, the camera on the Epic is better. With that being said, You may want to look into Camera ZoomFX for the time being as the Optimus has an issue with locking in autofocus, losing it and locking in again....even when you touch to focus. The aforementioned app doesn't appear to have that problem so it's believed to be a problem in LG's camera software, not necessarily the hardware.
With that being said, here's what you'll gain:
1. Quite possibly one of the best LCD displays out at the moment(excepting the Droid DNAs freakishly high pixel count). 720P movies look amazing on the Optimus G.
2. 50GB box.com account. Just download it from the play store directly from the phone and they will make 50 GB available to you for free. You can then download it on your Epic and use it to easily transfer files from one phone to another wirelessly as well as using it on your computer as well.
3. I never did the ICS update on my Epic as I was rooted, so maybe this wasn't an issue, but ICS no longer separates app storage partitions so the full amount of formatted memory on the phone is available to be used for app store.
4. 2 GB of ram(I guess in truth you're gaining one since the Epic had 1GB).
5. If you have an MHL adaptor for your Epic, rest assured knowing it will work with the Optimus G, unlike the GS3 and Note 2 where Samsung broke with traditional MHL compatibility forcing you to buy their overpriced MHL adaptor.
6. Working GPS. I dare you to download GPS test on the Epic and then the Optimus when you receive it and go outside and see how long they take to get a lock and how many satellites the phones are actually connecting to. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. My Epic would never connect to more than a handful at a time and had accuracy ranges measured in tens of yards. The Optimus G connects magnitudes faster and to more satellites with an average accuracy of 10 feet as far as I've observed.
7. Build quality to put Samsung to shame. Co-worker of mine got the GS3 about the same time I got my Optimus and for 14 days, he really had to convince himself he was ok with the subjectively chintzy feeling of the GS3 in comparison to the solid construction of the Optimus(he came from an original Evo as well so weight and solidity were what he was used to).
8. Less tangible, but the hope is that since this phone is a near clone of the Nexus 4, there should be plenty of development on it and since LG is in the Nexus program now, hopefully Jellybean will follow in short order.
9. Effective radios. I already mentioned GPS, but I've found wifi to be much stronger with this phone as is 3G(I won't compare 4G since they use different technologies). In one of the other posts someone posted the FCC measurements and this phone is right up there with the Motorola Photon(Moto usually seems to design some of the most effective radios out there so that's high praise).
10. Last but not least, his beast of a processor. The Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core with the Adreno 320 GPU. Quadrant scores in the mid to high 7000 range are now within your grasp(for what it's worth...bragging rights, maybe). With that being said, the phone behaves like it's on steroids. Nothing slows it down.
Welcome to the group!
