There seems to be a tiny gap (about a 1/10th of a mm) between the bottom of the screen and the casing. Dust keeps getting stuck between this space, this is specially true if I use a case.. to get rid of it I have to slide the corner of a sheet of paper along the gap to clear any small pieces of dirt stuck there.
Not having this issue on the sides or the top.. does anyone else have space between the bottom of the screen and the casing (wide enough to slide a sheet of paper)?
yup. same here. dust goes in sometimes. the housing seems a lil flexible so i kinda pry it open a little and clean the dust off.
Hi guys
I noticed today a gap between the screen and the metal frame surrounding the screen ( not between the screen and the polycarbonate body). Whenever I press on the screen where the gap is, the screen goes down and there is some color distortion on the screen. Dust is also accumulating in the gap. Is anyone having the same issue ?
Some people have reported that their screen doesn't fit properly. There should be a very small gap between the glass, a metal/plastic ring and the case itself though.
My One X has a tiny gap which seems to attract dust but the screen is fitted properly so it doesn't flex at all.
Picture please!
Long story short, dropped mine pretty far, it bent the frame slightly, just enough to effect the waterproofing. I found an all black frame and one have one of these? I think the Z1 would look pretty slick with an all black frame.

oooooooo, i always hated the silver frame look around a black phone, please do post result pictures if you change it
Hi, I have replaced the entire outside housing and screen. It started off as a simple housing swap, cracked back battery cover, heavily scuffed and dented frame, and scratched beyond belief plastic bezels. I used a hairdryer to separate all of the housing. If you are doing this yourself, I'd advise you to be VERY patient and careful, because the lcd ribbon cables rips VERY easily, which is what happened to me lol. I bought a digitizer and LCD and loca'd them myself. The ribbon cable broke again. I ended up buying a complete screen costing over $100.
The frame in the eBay link looks like it is missing the magnetic charging port and possibly the speaker grill, so you'll need to extract it from your old frame. There is a tiny retaining pin that needs to be removed before you can force out the port. You'll need to superglue or glue it with a waterproof sealant/adhesive. The headphone jack is also a nightmare to remove from the old frame, It is very hard to remove without damaging it. The plastic cover became separated on mine so its safe to say I have lost waterproofing capabilities on my z1. All the tiny connectors flew out and I had to reassemble it. (very time consuming & difficult)
If you're only replacing the frame you'll need a T4 Screwdriver, the original back cover adhesive. You just need to be super careful because this is a difficult repair. Its hard to guarantee waterproofing afterwards! Anyways I wish you luck if you do because I messed up. There is also a detailed disassembly guide on YouTube which you can follow. The black z1 is before the repair, the white is the repaired z1, with black magnetic port and speaker grill, which I think looks nice and unique.
Mine's got a black frame(from the original), white bezel on the front and purple bezel at the back with a white battery cover. puple and white is good combo for me.
Thats the standard frame, not all black(very poor pics make it look all black) and the price is very steep even if it is an OEM part its around $20(+$13 shipping lol) more than from a legit OEM distributor. I would be cautious but OP did you receive the item yet?
haha this is exactly my story
bought housing, later screwed up screen, magnet port and audio jack so bought all that as well. also the water seal for speakers and mic.
it looks exactly like yours before it was black and now its white.
Removing the back cover and fixing an unresponsive touch screen.
My daughter decided to drop her 80 Cobalt leaving the screen unresponsive but not broken.
After re-flashing the firmware and ruling out a software issue, I decided to open the case and have a look inside. With a bit of playing about I discovered the matt plastic back panel can easily be unclipped from the shiny plastic surround.
First remove the single tiny crosshead screw from under the sdcard flap. Then unclip the panel using strong fingernails or a thin plastic tool. Work from the speaker end and hinge it up at the camera end as there are four tabs there that locate under the curved shiny plastic part.
Inside there are two rectangles of plastic sticky tape in the same place, under one of those is the touch screen ribbon. I removed the plastic tape and found the ribbon was unseated, I just pushed it back into the connector and replaced the plastic tape, which appears to be the only thing holding it in place. The touch screen sprang back into life.
Replace the back cover and small screw. Job done.
It should only take a few minutes to repair.
Phone slipped out of my pocket while sitting down this past weekend..... Luckily the screen didn't crack but it chipped the bottom left part of the metal frame. Does anyone have any repair tips? I did a Google search to see how others repaired their iPhone metal frames but could only find solutions for scratches. I don't think high grade sandpaper will fix my problem. Please chime in if you had any luck/success with a fix. Thanks!
