Error 170 with RUU - HTC One X

Hi guys, I got my One X stuck in a boot loop so figured best method to solve this would be to download and reflash with the RUU however I'm unable to do this as every time I try I get a USB connection error 170. I've got the device in fastboot mode and have tried on several PC's (running win 7 and xp) with the same error produced each time. I tried manually flashing the system.img using fastboot but this also throws an error (FAILED (remote: (00000006))) so I've no idea how to get the device back into a working state. Can anyone help?

Did you do the bootloader unlock before this ?
If yes, you need to relock the bootloader before flashing the RUU
- fastboot oem lock
- flash RUU
Make sure you have the right RUU for your phone.

I restored the original recovery image and relocked. Randomly on like the millionth try its working now anyway, I've no idea why as I've changed nothing but atleast it's working again

Boot into your bootloader and then start the ruu

I'm also getting this error. But I'm using a Windows 7 in VirtualBox in Ubuntu Raring.
I'm wondering if VirtualBox has anything to do with the error. Anyway, I thought that it needs to be in Fastboot mode. Not in hboot mode. And RUU simply says to turn on the phone- not fastboot or hboot.

If you have unlocked via HTCDev the this would have removed your CID in which case yes you should be able to flash the WWE RUU on a branded device.
If you have not unlocked and are still running stock then no it wont work.
Does HTCDev unlock remove CID? Unless it changed to 11111111 you still won't be able to flash an RUU AFAIK

It does indeed. It doesn't change it to 1111111 it completely removes it altogether.
I re locked the bootloader the other day and re-flashed the WWE RUU as im sending it back (screen flickering problem) and it worked with no issues.
Vodafone Australia
I am Vodafone Australia and unlocked my phone via HTCdev. I am also facing the same problem (screen flickering)and need to send it back. I have re-locked it. As you just said "I re locked the bootloader the other day and re-flashed the WWE RUU as im sending it back" can you please explain how did you re-flash the WWE RUU? steps or link?

You need to get the vodafone au ruu. General wwe releases will not work for you. Pretty sure the correct ruu is available in the dev section.
Can't link, posting from phone.

Stock RUU for 1.28 needed
Hi there
I have effectively killed my HTC one - I unlocked via htcdev and upgraded the recovery - fastboot shows the device id when running the command fastboot devices.
However I am now stuck in a boot loop where the phone only boots to hboot (following a failed boot.img flash) I have downgraded back to stock recovery and re locked but cant find the 1.28 RUU to recover the device (and I did try the RUU for 1.26 but it wouldnt install)
Once I updated te recovery i ran the fastboot boot boot.img command
This failed to progress past the 'htc quietly brilliant' flash screen.
I dont have the rom .zip saved on my internal memory on the phone - I was hoping to be able to push it to the /data/ partition however when I try this sdb returns no connected device.
Wonder if anyone can assist in either
a - returning to stock with a RUU for 1.28
or
b - advise how to flash the files I need onto the phone (it seems that the ROM isnt booting so I assume its from the point I install boot.img and beyond I need so help)
Unfortunately I cant get the phone to boot to copy files to the memory so need to work entirely in fastboot and adb (assuming adb wil recognise the handset)
Many thanks
Gurry

But relocking it puts it back so unless you were on HTC__001 you'd be back on the VODAP001 CID

Bricked.. help.

phone was given to me with damaged wifi functionality (listed ERROR instead of ON or OFF) found directions suggesting a rom flash to fix it... well.. things have gone down hill.
now stuck at HTC Whitescreen.

Recovery is CWM 4.0.0.4
last flash is 6.01.605.05_VZW_OTA-full-odex.zip
Flashed system and boot from that file (extracted boot.img).
I tried this, but suspected it wouldn't work as I can't get past the white HTC logo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298990
Oddly I did end up seeing a BLACK screen HTC emblazoned across it. However after it finished I'm back to the white HTC screen hang.
HBOOT is still .98 so it seems to have had no appreciable effect.

It looks like it was unlocked using HTC Dev. You can't downgrade if you are unlocked already. Re-lock the phone (not sure how to do this, as I never did it this way), and then downgrade and S-Off. That is going to be your best option.

Ahh, need to relock to downgrade? I missed that bit somewhere. Thanks. will try that then run the downgrade path again.
No luck.. Bootloader then shows
***Relocked***
*Security Warning*
Will not proceed past bootloader. So the ADB commands error out with "Error: device not found". I can't get into CWM recovery with a locked bootloader to allow ADB commands to work.
perplexing..
In addition when unlocked, in CWM I cannot mount System. Is that normal?

You might need to try the Taco Root Method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
You can 100% do it. I never did it this way, but there is many others on this site that have been successful with this method.
A little back and forth play with the locked/unlocked status finally got it all working. Had to Unlock, enter CWM, format system, data, cache, , pull a boot.img from a zip file, flash that, reboot back to Fastboot, into recovery, mount system, data, cache, run the ADB section of the commands, reboot again into fastboot, relock (reboots on its own).. stick a RUU onto the microSD and slide that in. fail.. np, try another, and another. Finally found one it took and updated. Unbricked, Wifi is alive.
Downgrade may be possible at this point but probably not really worth it.

Tried to flash rom from cyanogenmod 10 to sense rom, possibly bricked

I ordered a used HTC One X and it arrived today, needed to get a micro sim for it so i bought it, however whenever I tried to enter the sim unlock code on start up it kept saying request unsuccessful. After searching on this forum I found that the problem was because the phone had already been flashed on cyanogenmod 10, I was told that I would have to flash to a 'sense' rom for me to be able to unlock the sim. Having done this now I have managed to possibly brick my phone.
It gets passed the HTC logo and the jellybean loading screen keeps looping (jellybeans floating around screen). I downloaded the all-in-one kit and tried flashing stock recovery and kernal, and it managed to get past the booting screen to a screen showing that android is updating. however once it got to updating the last app it got stuck again. since then i havent managed to get back on that screen, just a continuous bootloop.
the phone originally was on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, with cyanogenmod 10(i think it was 10)
I tried flashing it to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970

"If you have stock recovery
Download a Custom Recovery
Then flash it with the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-endeavoru.img
Now you can flash a new ROM or nandroid backup"
now i cant even get to recovery. trying to flash recovery from all-in-one kit and it just says "waiting for device" now

I re-installed HTC Sync and managed to get connected to fastboot again
the version is 1.29.061.11
ive also managed to get CWM recovery working again
Here is the link to the ruu you need
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/securek...Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260736_signed.exe
Install :
Put the phone in fastboot usb mode and lock the bootloader
Fastboot oem lock
Keep the phone in fastboot usb mode and right click the ruu on the pc and run it with admin rights !
It will bring back the phone to full stock and you will also be able to update the phone to software 2.17 ICS and after that to software 3.14 JB
Note : it will wipe the whole phone so back up stuff if needed
I managed to get it working in the end by doing that same method, took me forever to find the right ruu!
Thanks for your help :good:
Hey guys! It seems I've run into the same problem but unfortunately this fix is not applicable to me because my hboot is 3.16, which means there is no RUU available for my device! Can anyone help me??

Sprint HTC 10 no recovery, s-off bootloader relocked

So I used the htcdev site to unlock my bootloader, then I sucessfully flashed twrp-3.0.3-0_UNOFFICIAL-pme.img. then before I was going to reboot the phone I thought I needed to relock the bootloader, but when I did and restarted the phone it goes to upgrading android for a couple seconds before it pops up a screen saying my phone is encrypted and I need to input the passcode. I put that in and it says" even though I put in the right code my data is corrupted and I need to do a factory reset, which it starts then immediately goes into download mode. I can put it into bootloader but if I try recovery it fails and kicks me back to download mode. So no recovery, and until just recently I could do fastboot commands but not adb. the computer does not recognise the phone, neither does htc sync. Is there a way to unlock the bootloader with the original unlock bin code? I have also tried to send zips of the original ruu hoping I could get into recovery but it wont let me flash recovery with the s-on. Please help me.....

Have you tried the RUU on SD card method to restore the phone?
