HTC Messaging app disable - HTC One X

Is there anyway of diabling the HTC messaging app as I need to at least PIN protect my messages so they can't be read by the kids using the phone.
I have installed Handscent as on my Nexus One but HTC messaging App just bypasses the system security set by Hanscent so all messages are available.
I've looked under the App settings and the ICS disable button is greyed out for HTC messaging. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of it so I only have Handscent on the phone?

if using a custom rom, yes. remove apk from rom b4 flashing.

Messaging in Froyo

Hello guys
Im currently running LeeDroids 2.1a ROM + launcher pro, but i have a following problem that could appear on other ROMs based on the same build? well anyway, sometimes when I receive a message the phone doesnt react at all, theres no notifications no vibration nothing, is anyone else having similar problems in any froyo roms?
thanks
i found that using the stock messaging app, when you leave it open and lock your screen, new messages dont vibe/ring. you have to exit back to your home screen/another app for the messaging app to ring or vibrate.
i downloaded chompsms however and it will ring/vibe no matter what, so i prefer using chomp

Yes, I have it on HTC 2.2 with root too. Handcent or the stock app, both fail to notify until I go in and see new messages. It's not frequent though but at least once a day.

Hi
This is not good at all. Are you using the default messaging app? Or have you installed an alternative such as Handcent?
My only advice at this point would be to disable the app that you use for messaging and use an alternative.
To disable the messaging app you will need to root your DHD, unless you already have done so. And use Titanium Backup (search the market) to "Freeze" the app.
To root your DHD you will need Visionary. Copy this to your SD Card and install with a file management app such as Linda (search the market).
You will need to enable installation of non-market apps. Settings > Applications > Tick Unknown Sources.
Using Visionary, run "Temp Root" then "Attempt Perm Root".
Please bear in mind that if you have applied the latest HTC Over The Air (OTA) Update then none of this will work, as HTC have "fixed" the exploit that allowed root access, for now.
I'm having this same problem. However it only sends one txt to 1 or 2 people. I am rooted on the core cell Rom for anyone looking to help. I will try to freeze the standard sms app and hope that works, thanks for the advice

[Q] Default SMS won't stay changed!

I've been using Handcent SMS for a couple years now and as soon as I got my
ET4G I wanted to make it my default txting app.
I went into SETTINGS - MANAGE APPLICATIONS. From there, I found the Handcent App and made sure to make it my default. But then I go down to the Messaging app and I can't turn off the default for that one!
It shows I cleared the defaults. But it also displays that the original Messaging app is still default.
I restared my phone, and on the lock screen it shows I have unread messages. When I choose to read them it always goes back to the original SMS App.
I would love some ideas.
Thanks!!
I too am using handcent. I went into the messaging app and under settings disabled notifications, then in the handcent app go to settings application settings and set up handcent to be the default for sms, mms, or both. Then in notification settings you can customize how handcent notifies you of a new message. Hope it helps

Thank you dmrasm,
I thought I had it disabled in the original messaging app. I went into it again and looked and found that one setting was still on. I swear I disabled Everything in there before! At any rate, I'll see if it stays off this time.

Quick Follow-up - Yes that one setting in the original messaging app made the difference. The original messaging app seems to be deactivated now. Wonderful!

Messaging app issues?

Hi all,
Does anyone else have issues with the messaging app slowing to a crawl after a while? For me, after using it for a while it really begins to become slow to respond to things like the back button, opening a thread, etc.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
Try setting it to delete messages after a certain number, typically around 200 or so.

My suggestion is to use another messaging app...I personally prefer chompSMS but theres also others with way more features and options than the stock messaging app and I never have freezing problems or anything like it..

It is already set to do that but I think that because I did a restore from a previous phone there are a lot more messages than the set limit. I never had problems with my other phone though with that many messages. Think I'll try using another messaging app as the other reply suggests and see how that goes.
When installing another sms app, would it be starting new or does it integrate with the existing messages on the phone and bring those threads over to the new app.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
The SMS is a globally accessible database. So any app can access it. Just make sure you turn off notifications for the builtin sms app.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give Handcent a try and see how that goes. Anyone know if you make Handcent your default messaging app, does that make it so messages no longer get added to the stock app's database? I ask that because I also use SMS Backup and Restore to backup my text messages.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

Temp root or other method to delete SMS or set default SMS app?

So this is kind of a weird problem basically I've been using sliding messaging to send text messages over Google voice but it stores them in the normal SMS storage well on android 4.4 only the default SMS app can access the storage but on the tablet version there is no visible way to set the default app. So I either need a way to set an app add the default SMS app or a way to temp root to delete the SMS storage. I don't really want to root and unlock my tablet since I would have to wipe it. I have the Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi only.
Does anyone have a good solution to this problem?
