You want to know about an excellent way to very quickly get your girlfriend mad at you? (And that's putting it mildly, the original term I had in mind would probably have been censored by a mod.)
Messing up her cellphone.
I've done enough "tech support" over the years for family and friends to know better than to try and remotely talk someone through installing a custom ROM.
My advice is: wait until she's with you and that you actually have some time to spare for dealing with any issues that might pop up. And a spare phone, ready to go. Your couple will be all the better for it.
Good luck,
Darkshado
Lol! Yup
ICS and MIUI doesnt have performance
I recomand you to use BNC rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481654

Lol i know you're correct about that
but atleast suggest me some good roms with good performance + battery life
If its for people who arent experienced in a bit of flashing etc, I think you do better optimize stock rom and dont flash a custom rom

Alright so just tell me what are the good kernels or flashable scripts available which increase the overall performance of the phone
and can u also tell me how to play games that have to download like 300+ mb of data
as far as i know the internal memory isnt big enough to store such amount of data ?
thanks

- root first ofcourse.
then:
- use phiexz custom kernel, works on stock rom for overclocking, try out every frequence above 800 mhz, this differs for every device. some may clock up at 940mhz but some won't go further then 844mhz, just try out, if it will reboot its too high set, then set it lower. don't go past 940, that won't work anyway, just test how high your clock speed can go, remember to make a safe standard-frequencies.zip with setcpu or another app...
- use slaidyboost v2.3, optimes app RAM usage by zipaligning and other tweaks.
- delete, backup, recover apps using titanium backup, you can delete some unused system apps to speed it up..
Like the others have said, I'd stick to a stock ROM for now. Unless she's already familiar with CM, and understands the pros and cons coming with it.
Games that download that much data do so on the MicroSD card.
how to make the data download to micro sd ?

First things first for future references please post questions in the Q&A section. I understand this is development but this thread is for rom, fixes, and mods most of the instructions and such will be inside the threads. Now that you know here is the answer most roms will work with cwm all you have to do is download them and put them in the root of your sd card. After doing that reboot to recovery make supre you wipe and wipe once again and then go ahead and flash your new rom reboot phone and boom follow instructions. Make sure you back up your apps but I recomend not to restore system apps or data you can do it but sometimes it causes problems.
I must warm you do not pay attention if you get some trolls in here but make sure for the future you post in the righ sections

If you want a light but powerful AOSP ROM with a great contribution from the community, check out VaelPak. Best GB based AOSP ROM out there IMO. Jim's one of the best Dev's out there and any real dev here ought to back that up. http://vaelek.com/index.php?/forum/47-vaelpak-gingerbread-aosp/

Using Ra 2.3( dont be alarmed when u see screen pixelation by the way-it's an onscreen bug that wont harm ur phone).
U can run any rom froyo 2.2 roms or 2.3 gingerbread roms.
U don't like CM7 -me either its too plain looking for me- I use my phone as a phone and media player- I don't get anything out of overclocking it - all that does is eat battery faster.
The rom I use is SNS 1.5.... it is snappy, does everything that I need in a rom including masking my wireless tethering(I was using some fancy newer 3.0 and 2.1 sense roms loaded with that ciq sprint spyware and got a "cease and desist letter from sprint about my usage! Since sns 1.5 -has ciq elements purposely stripped out- I'm in the pink without Sprint all up in my business...
Best rom for EVO 4G
Hello,
I tried a lot of roms on my evo but I found the perfect setup for me:
**********
Phone: HTC EVO 4G, hwr 003
ROM: gingerbread-evo-deck-1.3d from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558
Kernel: SavagedZen-2.2.1-CFS-HAVS
Launcher: GoLauncherEx
GPX fixer: GPS_Supersonic_FIX_Flash3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311002339
SetCPU settings:
Main: 1075200-245000 InteractiveX Set on Boot
Profiles:
- Temp > 40C 245-245 PowerSave Priority 100
- Battery < 25% 245-245 PowerSave Priority 95
- Battery < 70% 883-245 InteractiveX Priority 65
- Battery < 85% 998-245 InteractiveX Priority 55
- Charging 1190-245 InteractiveX Priority 45
Note that I do not use an Screen Off profile (Thanks to Rodope) because InteractiveX have it inside.

I want to share this setup because cannot find any issues, everything working very fast.
If you aren't super happy w aosp try a senseless rom w more or aggressive freedom v.9. You will get that polished feel and look and all the HTC goodies.
Worth a shot.
One of my FAVORITE roms that i ran for a really long time was the ava rom. Heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049750
I would always go back to that rom from any others i tried. I say definitely give thag one a go!

CM7 is king baby! I suggest u try a nightly. It has so many nice features built in. To be honest though all the AOSP roms are very similar. U just have to find the one that you like best. I just tried VaelPak and it is pretty nice. It has one nice unique feature...u can actually undervolt it through the settings.
Many people using Android handset confused about making decision on which rom they will be using for daily activities...
Gio, as middle devices, has gotten upgrade from Froyo to Gingerbread, and the ported developed ICS rom still seems pretty difficult to be used for daily activity coz the problems of camera, video acceleration, and else...
But overall, even the ICS has excellent performance, still cannot wait for the more excellent release! (major dev: Macław #Work Hard!)
Let's share all things to make the handset stable and smooth for daily use!
SO LET'S NOW SETTLE THIS PROBLEM BY SOLVING TOGETHER
WHAT'S WORTH TO BE DISCUSSED, LET'S DISCUSS IT HERE
Which rom are u using?
How's the battery performance?
is it stable and smooth for daily use?
Please share, from inexperienced to experienced, tips and tricks or something related to the rom that stable and smooth, or ways to make it stable and smooth!

Does that mean don't restore your apps that you backed up using titanium back up for example? Sorry for posting here but i'm new so i can't post in dev section yet.
You can restore apps, but that's all. When you get the option to restore apps only or apps+data, choose apps only.
You should never restore data to any rom, it causes issues more times than not.

I have a few more questions to add to this thread. In the op the features say that there is cpu sleeper on this ROM so does that mean i dont have to download the separate app? Will it work in its own right out of the box? Also is there a way to under clock this ROM with setcpu or should I just leave it the way it is? Thanks in advance!

Sleeper script is built in. Radio should match your android version. If you are on gb now, you need to flash the uvle1 radio for ics. Communication between your radio and rom will go haywire if they don't match versions. Being able to change kernel/CPU frequencies depends in your kernel and what permissions your rom has. Play around with it, it should be fun to explore and sometimes the risk is what makes technology fun, but also creates advancement. You might discover something the rest of us haven't. This world is about sharing and discovering, but also a way to become self sufficient. The whole teach a man to fish adage

Alright I've flashed the ucle1 radio. I also installed setcpu. I set it to power save right now. Are there any setting you would recommend to maximize my battery. Settings that other people use often are irrelevant to know. We all have different apps, add-ons, and use our phones for different things. Honestly the best thing you can do is create a back up of a stable point and then play around with it. If something goes wonky, you can restore and try something different.

No need to use the sleeper app, Faux has it baked into the kernel. I'm mobile so can't link now (lazy) but should be first page on android development page for the radios easy to use flash em in recovery like the rest. The dev has been real cool about any and all questions, laid back forum over all. Its a great ROM

Oh wow, I have stock rooted gb now too and I didn't know the difference. So what would the instructions be from gb? Like when do you flash the radio? Can I use dark sides radio? Do you have to flash a kernel? If so when and which one? Otherwise it seems like dark sides instructions are more complete and easier from gb.
How long does it usually take for the ROM to settle in? I've been using it for two days now and the battery isn't worse but it's about the same as stock gb. When should I be seeing some improvements? And has anyone in nyc tried out the new note radio?
also what was the default CPU speed on this rom? I want to run it the way it is for a while before tweaking speeds. I already changed it around with setcpu and now idk what to change back to before I uninstall it.
When I was in NYC this summer, the UVLC8 radio worked very well for me.

From my experiences I remember the meaning of the "CUSTOM" rom.
It's MUCH BETTER THAN stock ! Come one dude "Cyanogen", "MIUI" etc.
I felt the difference before and after on many phones.
With N2 everything has changed a bit.
I agree the stock rom are better now than most of custom roms here.
Example: Im using Stock Wanam Deodex Rom (almost out touch rom.) What I did I just maximum deblaoted it.
And this stock rom working MUCH more better and faster and smoother than many custom roms here. Example OMEGA. (No offence ! this is purely my opinion)
Why it happening ?
So many developers love to add 3 years old build prop lines. Too old tweaks also are here. Come one why using stuff from HTC ? WTF was that "Enabled GPU UI rendering"???? JellyB has it from birth that !
And Im fine with that ! But NO DIFFERENCE BRO! not smoother, not faster. Ok maybe benchs is better ? But no it's lower ! Windows animation lags more than on stock rom.
And is nothing to explain about. People will get pissed.(when you tell the truth) If you just got your first android device and you have no experiences (NO CLUE) with that you will say it's faster ! But when you coming from G1 and you got 2-N2. 2-GS3 than you will see the difference between before and after and is nothing to talk about it.
Samsung did sick job with the N2 JB firmware. It's been optimized up to normal and we filling that from ANY corner !
Stop implanting stupid lines like "scrolling catch disabled" if you say yourself that it does not work.
Only best regards
On wanam stock deodexed lj7
Fired From My FireDevice
Using stock ROM! No plans of flashing custom ROM as stock is perfect
on stock...
way too perfect...no need for custom except debloating ofc
Only Android device I've ever owned which I've not rooted, and currently feel no compelling need to do so.

Dave

Some of the apps come with the ROM and cannot be removed (Like Flipboard, the various hub apps etc.). If they're not useful to you, it's bloatware. He has removed them by rooting the phone and deleting them.

Samsung has done a good job on the Note II
Stock Rom is working great,
One only need to root and debloate it
After that you can ' spec' it to ur taste

You can manually delete them, but yeah,it's easier to use titanium backup or something similar so the data gets cleared.

I am using HyperNote 0.3 which offers already a complete debloated ROM. Its very fast and battery efficient. A lot quicker than stock.
Hard to understand how somebody would not root the Note II. For any design changes or debloating you need root....and its so easily done.

This guy is good. His rom got the same "smoothest" as Check Rom. (I also liked his stock rom with out any additional tweaks from Aroma installer)
But I don't like first wake up seconds. (I felt stronger deep sleep than on stock, maybe Im crazy. But any way I will try again his new LJ7)

So as i'm preparing to move on to a new device, i don't want my wildfires to gather dust somewhere until i throw them away, so i'm planning on giving them to some of my friends. There is, however, still a problem: what ROM do i put on these phones? It might be the last time i can flash one on there, and I want them to have the best experience possible with it, without them being able to do much wrong if they behave with some common sense...
Any suggestions?

Suggest you to get the newest Cyanogenmod 7.2
Use custom MTD to get most internal space.
And install SetCPU and OC to 768-176 SmartassV2

I'll check that out with one soon, thanks! I myself use ICS based roms only, but CM7.2 might indeed be a bit better for the less tech savvy
If anything just flash a sense ROM like kwbr or rempuzzle they are smooth and user friendly.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I used rempuzzle as its more of a user friendly experience, and if they buy another htc device they wont be surprised when its not Cyanogenmod

Odp: (Q) What would be the best ROM to put on a wildfire i will give away?

I'll give it a shot! Thanks everybody
Sense might indeed be the most user friendly option...
