Stock Multitouch Keyboard possible on Epic 4G Touch? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey Guys,
I wanted to know if it was possible to put the stock keyboard from the Motorola Photon 4G on the Epic 4G Touch?
Here's the .apk: Motorola Photon 4G Stock Keyboard
Any help would be appreciated? BTW, my phone is rooted and everytime I try to install, it rejects it.

if you have root explorer or even es file exp. you can just put the apk into the data/app folder and then you should be able to select it in the language/keyboard settings if not reboot and then try. hope this helps you
EDIT: tried for you didn't work, maybe changing build.prop to Motorola Photon 4g and installing the apk might work

You need to push the app to system/apps and set its permissions. In adfition it probably needs a lib file from a motorola photon rom. The lib wasnt in the zip...

Venum right. I tried it in the system folder to and it didnt work there either. So it is probably missing something

[PORT]Desire HD Stock Keyboard?

Does anyone know what would need to be done to port this keyboard or make a flashable zip?
I pulled the HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk from the Desire HD port that is being worked on right now for the EVO. However, it wont simply install on my phone. I tried removing the Stock HTC_IME and Clicker via Root Explorer. Did a reboot and tried installing the Desire HD apks but it would just say 'Application not installed'.
I pulled the apks from v2 in this thread

Thanks in advance

Have you tried adb push? I'm not any kind of expert but that usually works when I am trying to install apps that won't install.
I'll give that a shot tonight. Thanks for the input.

[EDIT] Adb push didnt work either. Touch Input doesnt even show up in Language & Keyboard. I'm guessing something needs to be changed within the apks.
Well wish I could help then. Not good at doctoring apks.

Did you change the permissions to match that of the original keyboard. I recently got the 5MP camera working on my Android HD2 by simply changing the permissions using Root Explorer. Just long press the files and tick the appropriate permissions. Hope it works!

Re-installing sprint apps

Hey,
I rooted my phone to Quantum and I am loving it. Just one problem though, I needed navigation tonight and it epicly failed on me. Epic right? (puns )
In all seriousness I wana reinstall the sprint gps from 2.1.1 because that worked for me and didnt give me false directions or act weird and not give me anything thats turn by turn...
Someone please help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Josh
If you look in The Epic Experience ROM's OP, there should be an add-on where you could flash a .zip of all the Sprint apps.

Im not much of a noob when it comes to technology but that managed to make my head hurt more.
So correct me if Im wrong, I go to Epic Experience ROM's OP (not at all sure that is) and I can get all the sprint apps (which I only want one of o-o)
Im just looking for a gps or nav. The whole reason I got Quantum was to ditch the sprint garbage and get 2.2 but, I need a working nav and sprint has been the only one so far. The navigation on quantum fails because it cant sync or give real time turn by turn directions. So Im looking for the sprint installation of it.
I have no idea where to start (and everything I searched was useless)
You said you're on Quantum ROM in the original post, so I went to the Quantum thread and on the first post is this link: DK28 Sprint Apps
Source: Quantum ROM thread
Since all the Sprint apps are zipped up, you can probably just pick out the Sprint Navigation apk file and install that one by itself.

What he said. Just extract the .zip and look for the Sprint Navigation apk
I believe its called SN28-1100-sprint-signed.apk
Just copy that file and move it to the system/app section using root explorer on your phone.
Edit: just tried it. You dont need to move it. Just install it regulsrly

Since you're installing a lone .apk file from that zip file. You need to enable non-Market application installations. Settings > Applications > Check "Unknown sources"
Then using your phone's file explorer, stock is "My Files", navigate to where you placed the .apk file on your SD card and launch it. It should start the installation process.

Keyboard from other roms

i was using Eternal Prophecy rom for first time yesterday just to get a look into it and i loved the keyboard for it but i switched back to warm z at the moment and thinking that keyboard from EP would go great with myn's work.
what i wanna know is that can you take keyboards from any rom and make them usable to the one im using currently?
Like i said i want the EP Keyboard on Warm Z.
i tried extracting the files and i think i found the keyboard file but i believe it was a bin file and i renamed it to .apk to possibly pull it up from root explorer but that was a no go. i didn't bother changing it to a .zip file because i didn't even think that this was possible to do
Thanks
WINNING!

You can extract the keyboard from ROM "A" and put it in ROM "B" but you also got the extract the lib file that goes along with the keyboard.
Take for example the Swype keyboard. Alot of people think that all they need is the apk and that's it....WRONG!!...hahaha...you need the libSwypeCore.so file to make it work, if not you'll get FCs left and right and you'll properly get a couple of grey hairs trying to figure out what's wrong
Oh just FYI, the lib file goes in system/lib and as you may already know you got to install the keyboard in system not just a regular install.......GOOD LUCK DUDE!!

What keyboard are you trying to use? I don't flash sense roms so I never seen the keyboard on Warm Z.
There are other factors that you may have to take under consideration like the regular LatinIME.apk in Sense 2.2 (the one with arrows on the bottom of it) can't be used in AOSP roms (don't know why but you can't...lol).
Another thing that might be causing the FCs is permissions. Did you set the correct permissions for the APK and the LIB file? I generally use rw-r-r- for APKs and LIBs when pushing them to the system folder.
Let me know what keyboard you're trying to install and what rom you're trying to install it on and I'll try my best to make you a video or at least a step by step guide with pictures.......

New Market question

I am running Starburst 1.95, I have updated the market with the leaked apk at least 5 times and it ALWAYS goes back to 3.1.5, why is it not sticking? I have done EVERYTHING. I even deleted the market with root explorer and put the new apk in myself and it works but after a while ill check and its back to 3.1.5! Any ideas?

Have you changed the permissions on the APK after pushing it? Or are you installing via CWM?

[REQ] Stock Swype APK

Hello everyone, I just got my wife the new SGS2 Epic 4G Touch, and I pushed the new Beta of Swype to it, and it won't work at all. I was wondering if someone could possibly provide me with the APK file for the stock version of it so that I can install that back onto her phone to make things right again. Thanks (and appropriate button hit) to anybody who can toss that file my way.

Did you uninstall the app first using titaniumbackup or similar? That's what I have to do whenever flash new rom. Sometimes I need to even reboot after the uninstall, and before the install of new.
Nice! Great to have this!
If you install swype officially as outlined on the swype website you can get the updates OTA. Just make sure any previous version is removed beforehand.
