[Q] Need Help with Recoveries - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am using AOKP build 28 (newest i have to flash) on my epic 4g touch. when i try to flash a new recovery it goes back to stock with only 4 options. when i try to use odin i soft brick it. i can get back to my aokp but i cannot the gapps to install... i also tried the cm9 rom/kernel and i am still not getting anywhere... anyone got any ideas besides going only stock?

Just to clarify, what are you trying to flash by ODIN? And are you using Mobile ODIN or ODIN OC? (One-Click)
If you haven't already you may want to try the EL26 or EL29 stock + rooted. I believe SFHub also has a ODIN TAR with CWM repack available but will trigger the triangle. (May not be an issue for you, but just to make aware.)

[Q] Flashing Help required!

I am trying to flash a stock package (rooted or non rooted) through the stock recovery but am not able to get past the verification. I did it once with a rom through one of the FBXX leaks and I cant for the life of me remember which one it was, and through all manner of stock, ics recovery, etc searches i've not been able to find it, can anyone help me out with this?
Use Odin/Mobile Odin and flash el26+cwm. Boot into recovery by holding power+volume up. Wipe data/cache/dalvick and flash rom.

Cant boot into odin, only stock recovery, so it has to be a signed zip that will flash there. I have el29, el26 One clicks on the pc, but cant do **** with em without odin mode
if you can't boot to odin mode you may need to use a jig
Try this:

It is supposed to be signed, so it should work.

Just use the one click its the easiest way to use odin you do not have to boot into recovery.

[Q] CM9 alpha 4 upgrade issue

I downloaded the .zip file for the upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4 off CM's website, put it on my SDCARD, booted into recovery - looks like stock recovery, (following the steps on CM website) then applied the zip -> it looks like its doing something for about 20 seconds then the little android guy dies and has a red triangle with an exclamation point coming out his stomach. What am I doing wrong?
baseband version: FE10
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FD10-CL377892
You need to be using a clockwork mod recovery to flash, stock recovery will not work.
First make sure you are rooted.
Next use either Odin 1.85 or Mobile Odin to flash the EL26 kernel.
Upon reboot, go into recovery mode using volume up+power. If you miss your chance to do so, just pull the battery and try to get into recovery again.
Using CWM, flash per the install instructions.
so do i just odin the kernel back to el26 w/ CWM? the reason i dont want to do a clean install is because i wodnt want to wipe my data. If i odin to EL26 w/ CWM do i need to go back to gingerbread?? Or is there a way i can sat on ICS and upgrade?
what if i used this kernel? [NEW][KERNEL] FE16 Repack with ACS recovery

If someone tells you how to do it safely, and you choose to do it your way done come crying when you brick, because it still says don't use recovery with ics kernels...

Do exactly what he said here... You're not going back to GB or wiping data. You're just re-flashing a CWM recovery. When you originally installed CM9 alpha 3, you used a CWM recovery. But the CM9 ROM re-flashes a stock recovery (which you can not use to upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4).
So all you do is Odin the EL26 kernel/CWM recovery image (phone in Download mode), and then you reboot and hold vol+ and power to get the phone into the CWM Recovery Mode. From there, you just install the CM9 alpha4, you don't wipe data or lose anything.
thanks man, it worked.
I am new to the forums and didn't want to make a new thread. I am having issues with the GPS (Maps App.) The app loads up i enter the destination i want to go to but it wont find my location where i am at. It just keeps searching for my location...
So i went ahead and downloaded another GPS app ( tele nav.) same issue. I was wondering is there a way to fix GPS issues on this rom? I would like to fix that issue..
anyone have a solution to fixing the GPS issue on this rom???

Kind of bricked my phone. Need Help

Okay so I was on calkulins 1.5. I flashed el26 safe repacked kernel thru mobile odin so i can flash the latest build of miui. I also used the formatall from calkulin just before flashing but now after flashing miui, all i get is force closes and the phone wont even get to the homescreen. When i try to get to recovery it will stay frozen on the boot screen with the yellow exclamation triangle under the Samsung. What can i do from this point on to get miui or cm9 to work?
thank you!!!!!!!!
Sounds like you need to ODIN back to el29 stock +root. Re download the rom and make sure you have the right kernel for it.

How do I get CWM on FI03?

Hello
I followed this guide to update to FI03 because I was getting the update notification.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877041&highlight=fi03
At the step for CWM it gives an option but says you will lose the FI03 kernel.
'If you want CWM use Option D in the Auto Root Package to install FF18+CWM-agat-src (you are already rooted so Option A is not necessary). You will lose the FI03 kernel in the process.'
So how would I get CWM in FI03? I want the tethering function back and need to use CWM to flash this.

Not sure how to get CWM in FI03. Any advice?

Its not CWM but this is how you get to FI03 kernal and recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879381

Flash this in odin or moblie odin. Download the .tar file. (5.4 version) That will give you a custom kernel/recovery and its safe and tested. I have personally wiped and flashed from this recovery.
computer odin flash thru the pda slot.
mobile odin flash thru the kernel slot.
if you choose thru regular odin download triangle away from the play store afterward to get rid of the yellow triangle on the splash screen.
EDIT: I just saw this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879381
This is the stock FI03 kernel/repacked with safe custom recovery. same thing if you want to have this. download .tar file and flash in odin or mobile odin.

Stuck at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen.

Trying to update my old E4GT to KitKat (CM11) for use as an MP3 player. I believe it was on OI23 before. I tried EL26 CWM, Agat, and finally attempted installing Philz Touch before it gave up this screen. Kies cannot connect to it, even after making sure proper drivers are installed and doing the connection troubleshooter.
Am I screwed? Did I encounter the infamous "superbrick"?

You should still be able to flash stock firmware via Odin in that state. Connect it and flash, provided that the battery is charged.

Ok I've gotten ODIN to recognize it again. Now how can I get to CM11? My biggest problem is finding a recovery that will work to flash it.
Here is a stock rooted ROM for d710 with CWM included in it, flash it via Odin and you'll be restored, rooted and have CWM.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S2%20%28Sprint%29%20%28SPH-D710%29/Stock%20ROMs/GB/EL29/No%20Data%20Restore/Rooted
Then you'll need to flash an ICS modem or you won't be able to use Kit Kat custom ROMS(CM11), it is a .zip to be flashed in recovery the way a ROM is. Scroll to the bottom of the list and grab the last one. Flash it in recovery.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p... Galaxy S2 (Sprint) (SPH-D710)/Modems/ICS/ZIP
Then you'll need to find a 4.3 custom ROM to flash to update the devices partition structure before flashing a 4.4+(CM11) ROM. The trick is going to be finding 4.3 and 4.4 ROMs, they are old ROMs and may not be available for download anymore. I'm trying to get the CWM that I used uploaded so you can use it, it flashed all of my 4.4 - 4.4.4 ROMs. I flashed everything with it. It's CWM 5.0.2.7 for sph-d710.

I'm back up and running with it. It's rooted but I don't have CWM, it's still the stock Android System Recovery so I can't flash anything.

You flashed the file I linked? It is supposed to have CWM packaged with it. Go to rwilco12's android repository, at the top of the page you'll see a downloads tab. Click it then select the options on that menu until you get to Galaxy S2>Sprint SPH-D710>kernels and you'll find the Odin flashable recoveries for E4GT.

I had an AGAT GB27 v1.3 from rwilco that I flashed to get a custom recovery, just flashed the FL24 modem with it. So I have EL29 software with FL24 modem. Ready to flash something newer now.
EDIT: And now it doesn't boot.

To get to Kit Kat, you've got to flash a 4.3 ROM then flash a 4.4 ROM. I'm not sure where you'll find one or if their are any available anymore.
There is CWM 5 or CWM 6 at rwilcos repository, its probably better than Agats

The CWM from rwilco is giving me a binary hash error in ODIN.

I have a CWM 5.0.2.7 in zip that I'm trying to upload to my Android File Host for you but its giving me issues uploading. I'll find a place to put it so you can get it, then flash it in Agat recovery.
Flash Agat recovery again, then flash the CWM I give you in Agat, then go back to main menu and find the "reboot recovery" option somewhere, I can't remember where its at in Agat, reboot recovery will boot you into the new recovery, do not boot to system then boot to recovery, it will revert to Agat and you'll have to flash CWM again and boot to it correctly to keep it.
