[Q] Feasibility: Multiboot: Stock Froyo and CM7 - Defy General

Hi,
I need to know if it is feasible to have the following multiboot setup:
1) Stock Froyo as base (rooted)
2) CM7 as second boot option.
I need to do this because Tmobile wifi calling works consistantly on Stock Froyo but I'd like to have CM7 as an option when Im not in a place where I need wifi calling. I understand they are working on getting wifi calling working with CM7 however, it is not working yet in the stable build and I absolutely need the stability and wifi calling.
Thanks in advance for all responses.

Isn't there wifi calling in CM7? Not sure but check out CM7 whiterabbit edition

Wifi calling seems to work on CM7. It's very recent (impleme'ted only last week).
As to the main question, ask maniac if his multiboot mod works with stock ROMs. I think it does.
CM7 + CM9 double boot

yes its totally feasible... and i have tested it.
after installing 2nd init, install latest CWM bootmenu.
This will give you latest and stable recovery
Then follow the usual steps for multiboot...

Hi I tried to use the multiboot manager and it turned out to be a disaster.
I ended up flashing CM7 nightly over my stock because I couldn't figure out how to get to the second virtual recovery. I tried following the instructions and they just were not clear enough to avoid mistakes.
Now that I have flashed CM7, though I am pleased with the speed and the smoothness (very nice work fellas), i have lost the functionality of the wifi calling app working without an echo... so i cant use it. I guess this will get fixed eventually.
Im not sure where I went wrong, but its not as easily done as it is written out to be. I want to try again, but I am afraid to overwrite my CM7 and have to redo everything.

Use This guide but let the real system be and only flash the virtual system. Should do it. You don't need the app.

Hey thanks for the recommendation. I think i might have to go back to stock while the work out the kineto calling issues. I am a little scared but willing to try now that i am sure my contacts are backed up.

Evervolv WiFi & other issues

This is my first thread here at xda
I don't know if this issue is already known or if it's just me with this problem. I have an HTC Evo and I've tried both Evervolv Roms for Android 2.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878020 and 2.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840285. Both Roms have problems with connecting with WiFi automatically, even when connecting manually, and require me to constantly turn the WiFi on and off to connect. Sometimes a reboot is needed on the 2.3 version because the WiFi gets stuck on "turning off". I'm wondering if there's a fix for this or if the developer of Evervolv will fix this in the future. I'm not able to comment on the developer's thread so this is my only way to get the problem out there. Also in the 2.3 version, the application launcher crashes often and requires a reboot each time to get anything to work. Flash Player doesn't seem to work at all (in fact only way i was able to install it was through Titanium-backup, as trying to install it from the market doesn't work) . I've also noticed random reboots on both versions 2.2 and 2.3. I really like the 2.3 Rom but the constant crashes of the app launcher forced me to switch to the 2.2 version and the WiFi problems persist on that as well. (if anyone asks why don't i just try another launcher, it's cause i like stock Android launchers the best )
Welcome!! The 2.3 rom is still beta so issues will be there. Are you using stock kernel? I've used cm roms and know you must change your wifi policy to never sleep. Not 100% sure if that's where your problem lies but its worth checking. Also the aosp roms IMO are still kinda iffy. Most seem very promising and some run very well but all still need alot of work. If it is becoming to big of an issue I'd nandroid backup, completely wipe and format and try a sense based rom, im trying Koni's ELITE and so far, im very impressed. Just a Thought.

wifi error

Currently im trying to run the stock 3.70 deodeoxed. For some reason every sense rom i try to run I get wifi error when i try to turn the wifi on. AOSP roms work fine. Kinda wanted to get this fixed so I can sell it. Possiable evo3d in future. Thanks all.
That is very strange. Did wifi work for you before you rooted the device? If it did, when did you initially notice that wifi was not working properly? If it works for AOSP roms, it should work for Sense-based roms, as well. If you haven't done so, use amon_RA as your recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu Except the card and then flash the stock "odexed" rom from HERE.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
Ill give it a try and let you know.Wifi works like a dream on cm7

gingersense

Is there a way to for example flash wildfire s gingerbread rom and then change density?
Thanks.
No. Don't you think we would have had it a long time back then, if it were so simple? SFM is just that. Its based on the HTC Salsa Stock ROM, (The first release was based on the Wildfire S ROM, which had even more things not working) and you can see the results for yourself.
One more question... i installed jokersdroid 4.2 rom long ago, and i didnt have data connection. So i changed my rom to wildpuzzle, then cm etc. (everything was fine with data conn.) And now i flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906557 (rooted), and the same problem appears... i tried to flash different radios, but still no change, i still cant activate my data connection. I really like stock roms, so i wanna keep this one... can you help me on this?
Thanks.

The custom ROMs include your operators APN by default (i.e. it's pre-configured). This is not the case in the Stock ROM (Since its untouched), so, you will have to add the APNs yourself, after which, I am pretty sure mobile data should work.
You have my thanks.
now i have other problems... sometimes i have singnal sometimes not, the same goes for data connection ... what now?
Honestly, I don't think this is ROM related, but, network issues. Were you getting such issues when you were on the Stock ROM (At that time when data wasn't working for you?).
Anyway, seems like the 2.34 Safe Flash RUU is causing you all sorts of problems (Which shouldn't really, because both WildPuzzle and JokerDroid use this very ROM as its base), so you might as well switch and install the WWE 2.22.405.1 Safe Flash RUU from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877977
You will have to re-enter APN again, as usual.
cant stop hitting the thanks button
i solved the problem with the signav and data conn... it seems it was all about nfinity kernel... strange...

[Q] lost 3g completely

OK here's the deal. I rooted my wife's Inc 2. Put on miui the newest version. Then I put on tiamat 1.1.5 kernel. When u turn on wifi, make a call or restart the phone bye battery pull or power button it will lose 3g. It is impossible to get it back. I have tried everything that I can think of. Airplane mode, wifi on and then off, restarting phone check all options that could affect it. I have tried with the miui kernel and no luck. Also I have the same setup on my phone and I have no issues. If anyone has any ideas on why this is happening I would love to hear them.
You should try updating the kernel, that will most likely solve your problem.
Do u mean just a different kernel?

Tiamat works great with miui. My first flash borked the wifi too, and a simple reflash of the same kernel fixed it. The kernel included with miui is from cyanogenmod, i believe, and it works fine too.
Do you use a script to wipe the old kernel before installing the new one?
I use the ultimate kernel cleaning script v2 and have had no issues with tiamat.
Thanks for the ideas I will try them out.
Can you give us a feed back I am desperate ,
I downloaded miui from rom manager and miui.us. If I used miui rom from miui.us 3g did not work. If i used the one from rom manager it did work. I know it weird but i was using the one from rom manager on my phone and the 3g was working. Since i didnt put rom manager on her phone i used miui.us. so when I put rom manager on her phone and used that it worked. I dont know why this happened just glad she gets 3g again.
With MUIU right ? i will try it soon , thanks for the idea
It's weird but if i get get back my 3G with it i will use it
If you can run other rom as virtuous an confirm that this method work ,it will be grateful and more hopeful , now too many guys include me are in this situation.
Thanks in advance now five days without 3G, is terrible
up
Any idea here ?
i used rom manager to download miui and the 3g worked. when i used the download from miui.us it 3g did not work. Im also not using miui kernel if that matters. i have used tiamat 1.1.5. i'm Using aeroevan_inc2-0.4 kernel now.

4G won't connect after flashing ROM

First Android phone, so I still getting up to speed so hoping someone could answer a couple quick questions. I'll start with the questions and then give the history.
1) How do you determine what ROM you have installed?
2) Any ideas why 4G won't connect? Is there any way to troubleshoot this?
3) Is there anyway to tether on 4G?
So I dove right in after purchasing this phone and flashed a ROM (Zedomax) so I could tether. After installing this ROM my battery life went down the drain and it wouldn't hold a charge for more than 6 hours.
So then I flashed the EG30 stock kernel and my battery life returned to normal. Still wanting to tether I tried another ROM (don't remember which one). This ROM had the same battery issues so I once again flashed the stock kernel back to my phone.
So now my battery life is great, but 4g won't connect (i'm in NYC) for a few days now. I've tried pulling battery, want what not to no success.
I believe I am running the stock kernel, but to my surprise I still have root access. No triangle on the home screen and ODIN says I'm using the Samsung Official binary.
Just to clarify, you are flashing kernels, not ROMs. Zedomax is a kernel, EG30 is a kernel, etc. You can find your current kernel version under Settings > About phone > Kernel version.
Also as an FYI, I wouldn't be going all willy nilly flashing kernels that you can't remember the name of. I'd have to imagine that's a good way to possibly brick your phone or have problems like you are with 4G.
I'm no expert on this stuff by any means but I'd probably recommend flashing Bubby's stock kernel or chris41g's version of it that is packaged up with CWM. These will get you back to the stock kernel (assuming you're not there already) and probably get your 4G working. Otherwise you probably need to update your PRL or something along those lines. Someone who actually knows more about this stuff (i.e. not me) may have a better suggestion for you.
Thanks.
Kernel version is 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Is that stock?

Yep! 10 char
Cool.
So flashing to chris41g's or Bubby's kernels probably won't help me. I'll go searching to figure out how to update my PRL but if anyone has any other ideas I'd be grateful.
Also does anyone know if it is possible to tether over 4G? I was never able to connect unless I turned off 4g before tethering.
It is working again. I started over and flashed Stock-EG30.tar and all is good now.
Out of curiosity did you update your system profile after you flashed? I think it's recommended to do that every time you flash a new kernel.
Settings > About phone > System updates then choose update profile.
Edit - Ahh cool looks like you got it worked out. Cheers!
Nope, I never updated my system profile. That could of been a fix....
Interestingly enough, I was retracing my steps after going stock, after each step I checked 4G connectivity. I lost 4G after enabling AdAway. So I disabled (each change requires a reboot) and got 4G back after the boot. I enabled it again hoping to be able to isolate the issue but after that next reboot I got 4G access with AdAway enabled.
Can't say it is AdAway, but after toggling it, I got 4G back.
