Well, not quite transformer prime-like, but still this device is also very impressive and powerful enough.

I cannot seem to go higher than 6 videos, could be the stickit player or maybe it's because of Sense, will be curious to know how this performs on AOSP build.

As long as we're still on stock firmware our warranty will save us. And no, the worst thing we can get doing this kind of burn-in test is only reboot.

Would be nice if the phone supported more than one display via special MHL cable, 2-4 displays, like desktop cards. Games would have to be updated to support that as well... play movie on one display for someone to watch it while you use the phone to do some work (for example PC remote desktop on another display) or play at the same time.

Can some one give their phone a run through with some MKVs downloaded. I want to see if there is native support for the MKV Container with some common codec for internet downloaded files (Particulary interested in anime's)
.mkv isn't a codec, it's a container.

Those phones support playback of some .mkv files because the respective manufacturers have included support via their modifications to Android. The Galaxy Nexus is a stock Android device, and as such, will likely only have limited support for video and music files. If anyone wants additional functionality that stock Android doesn't offer, that is what apps on the market / ROMs are for

so a simple remux to ts (a few seconds to do) would be OK but most would need audio transcoding too (creating sync issues)
can anyone recommend a decent, unrestricted, free video player for mkv with h.264 and will do aac, mp3 and ac3 audio?

The IVA 3 multimedia accelerator integrated into the OMAP 4460 is capable of decoding 1080p30 video, providing an application is available to take advantage of this you should be able to play most HD content.
So I have been considering the Ion as an upgrade from my ATRIX 4g but I have one criteria than the next phone I get cannot fail, or else there is no point in upgrading my phone because overall, I am happy with my current phone. I was wondering if the ion has the ability to natively decode hi-profile H.264 encoded video in an .mkv file. I have literally thousands of files on my PC and I don't want to re-encode them, especially because most of them have subtitles and that makes them extra hard to re-encode.
So if someone could find and test out some h.264 hi-profile encoded mkv video in 720p or 1080p, and report back the results of how it played, I would be super grateful! (Just FYI most .mkv files are h264 and most videos encoded in h.264 are encoded in hi-profile, so the files aren't that rare in case it seemed daunting to find a file like that) Thanks so much!

Cool thanks!
I don't think I am being picky but for some reason developers are more interested in features I consider useless, and don't seem to care aboue the features I'm looking for:
-doesn't use Android's cached album art thumbnails. they suck, they look bad and blurry. I want full rez, not downloaded either, I have my own. as far as I know, Neutron Player is the only one that does this. If you can't tell, delete the cached thumbnails and try again.
-presentable appearence, players like Power AMP, Lithium, Neutron. they would've been cool back in 2006, but it's 2012 and they look super lame.
-fast, responsive controls. You wouldn't believe how they would release apps that don't have proper controls. This one called DeadBeef for example, if you try to scroll fast in the song list, it counts as a side swipe and takes you to another screen, no matter how straight your swipe is. And Neutron Player, its swipe and kenetic scrolling algorithms suck they're inconsistent with Android and it only works whenever it feels like it.
-power efficient. Again, you just wouldn't believe it. this app called SimplePlay, it really is a pretty simple app, except it's a power hog in the background, heats up my phone in my pocket.
So I basically tried every single music player, almost 50 of them. none of them satisfied all 4 of these not very picky requirements. I don't understand! why is this so hard? How come the iOS music player just works like that? why can't we even get a decent music player?
I havent seen a player wit all 4 but cubed player has nice tiled feature for thumbnails u can give ashot

cubed player won't even start without android media library.
MortPlayer won't show any album art for FLAC files, and it's too small anyway, you can't see the full resolution even if it did show them.
Winamp looks like crap, and the album art windows is too small as well.
Spotify requires you to login, I have no interest in internet streaming.
I like n7 player its not perfect but it ticks all the boxes, it's smooth low usage responsive looks ok and uses my own images and can download others for you and can manually connect to servers to download album art of your choosing
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I'm using PlayerPro and I'm pretty happy with it.
Give it a try although if you have tried 50 already, you most probably came across this one as well.
I cannot say if it meets your requirements:
- full resolution covers? You want to be able to zoom in?
- power consumption is ok, haven't noticed any abnormal battery drain,
- ui is ok, functional and clean,

Sweet, the only qualm I have with Apollo (no fault of BigSplit) and actually every AOSP music app.. is the lack of .aac support. The only music players that I have come across that play all my music are the stock TouchWiz and stock Sense music players... half my music is compressed into .aac format. Maybe I should suck it up and buy a 32gb and switch everything back into .mp3, but I don't want to... it's a pain in the arse to convert that many files.
Ahh yeah that's understandable. I'm old school and just a few months ago finally got around to taking my giant CD case and ripping it all to mp3's. Not even familiar with other audio formats. My external SD is dedicated to music storage.
I'd like to actually switch to the cloud thing but sprint is so bad here that streaming my music is next to impossible.

Same here with the external sd for music only(basically, I keep a couple nands on there just in case). Ditto to the music cloud too, never would work for me, my main music time is driving. aac format is about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of an mp3 (depending on the song), which equals more music on my sd, I've got 10 gbs of music on there now (and it's compressed). I need to go back and rip all my cds again (I haven't used them in so long, maybe I can just pull the mp3s that way instead of reconverting)... computer crashed and I lost everything (really long story)... I use MediaCoder on the computer, lots faster... I use the app if I just wanna do one. Pretty cool the stuff you can do. You can turn a pdf into an e-book! Switch video formats, really cool stuff once you learn how it works. I never knew there were so many file formats... it's crazy.

I own an unlocked HTC One like I assume the author does too. I think that the problem he is trying to solve is, that Tubemate doesn't support 1080p playing/streaming on the HTC One. Downloading works, even though Tubemate has to convert the Video after it is downloaded, for some reason, and it only works with the Armv7 Codec and you have to tick a box in the settings to enable HD download. For this tubemate then uses the free app "Mp3 Video downloader", which is clearly also used to now actually convert Videos into MP3 instead of just renaming the download MP4 video file into a Mp3 file, like it was done in previous versions. This is not a problem of the player used (android player or tubemate player) but more a problem of the app itself not recognizing that the HTC One has a 1080p display. See, if you select "1080x1820 high end devices only" it gives the message "Not Supported". This makes sense, since on this page: http://slideme.org/application/tubemate-2 there is a list of resolutions available and there it says
"
[Available resolutions]
1920x1080(Full-HD): GalaxyTab, Galaxy S2, PC
1280x720(HD): high-end devices
"
So clearly the tubemate developers enabled 1080p playback on Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy S2, but not for the HTC One. Weirdly on my previous phone, a HTC One S, I could always select 1080p playing and it would always work, even though the HTC One S has only a 720p display, so that's kinda strange..
Also, I don't really think that a redesign is necessary, i am kinda happy with the current design.
Also, the app the guy right before me linked also only supports 1080p download but not playing so it offers the same as Tubemate.
And there is also another Youtbe HD playback app but that doesn't get updated anymore, so It actually works with an old and less functional version of the android YouTube player than the current one link is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715.
I am really interested in this idea of adding this feature, and possibly add even more devices with 1080p screens, since there are way more auch devices available and I am assuming most of them can't play 1080p videos, since the native YouTube player (at least in my HTC One) only supports resolutions up to 720p and I would really like the developers of Tubemate to find this and work on this issue.
Btw, I don't know if it matters but my devices (HTC One and HTC One S) were both rooted and on the newest available stock Rom which is on my HTC One S currently android 4.3.
